Before the malaise began, Dundorf and Gaduridos were close for a plethora of reasons. Stable liberal democracies with neutral tendencies, strong social democratic party's, and a strong trade relationship. However those trade relations gradually deteriorated as Gaduridos fell into a malaise. This week however, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a trade deal with Dundorf. Gaduridos will export to Dundorf natural resources such as iron, agricultural goods, most especially bananas, and industrial goods such as steel. In exchange, Dundorf will export trains and cars to Gaduridos.
Beyond restoring another trade relationship, Dundorfian cars are of high quality and this'll allow for cheaper prices for Gaduris across the country, which is always a win during the malaise. Plus, trains will allow increased usage of the Trans-Seleyan Railway, which, no doubt, will help commercial transportation. And supporting commercial transportation can provide economic benefits. Whatever the case, the big benefit is of course, an expansion of trade volume.
As trade volume slowly starts to pick up, there will soon be demand for trade infrastructure to be expanded. Something that Congress is well aware of, and no doubt, working on preparing for. Whatever the case, the trade deal with Dundorf is certainly going to provide mutual benefits.

With trade slowly being revived, the de la Cruz administration has looked to continue it's focus on renewing trade deals and getting trade activity in Gaduridos from the wider world back online. To that end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed two new trade deals. First, a deal with New Verham, in which Gaduridos will export steel and iron to the country, and New Verham will purchase. A win win, especially as the opportunity of expanded economic ties (such as reducing mutual tariffs) is very possible. But, at the moment, the de la Cruz administration is focusing strictly on trade. Next, is a trade deal with the Confederation of Nadiya. Barring oil, since Nadiya is a major producer of oil, Gaduridos will export steel, iron, and agricultural goods (such as coffee and bananas) to Nadiya, and in exchange, Nadiya will export consumer goods towards Gaduridos, largely to resolve one of their own trade deficits.
Both of these deals will provide Gaduridos with not only cash, but more consumer goods (which leads to more choices for buyers) and it will provide more traffic. Which has led to Congress passing the "Trade Renewal and Advancement Act" (TRAA), in which the state will begin investments into infrastructure across the country, most especially in ports. Taking advantage of SASA, the Duchy Public Works Program will be brought into cooperation with a wider national Public Works Program, under the Programa de Desarrollo y Revitalización Pública (Public Development and Revitalization Program), which will coordinate all public works projects in the country. Ports will be the main focus, largely to ensure expansions occur and increased traffic can be handled, so new shipping lanes can be restored and brought back online. Of course, other infrastructure projects will be required as trade works only if the weakest leak of a chain works, but for a starting project, the PDRP has its work cut out.
Whatever the case, there is much work to be done. Both in infrastructure, and diversifying trade, and restoring Gaduridos' status as a trade hub.

To say a new era has dawned on Gaduridos is nothing short of an understatement. The coronation of Víctor de Valcorico, the first King of Gaduridos, has formally occured. With citizens from all across the country invited to Ciudad de Gadur and foreign dignitaries, to say that the event was met with widespread public support would equally be an understatement. Cheers and jubilation defined the coronation, however foreign dignitaries were also present. For starters, the Khan of Bianjie, Nilhuma and the Gungju Tempin, as the relationship between Gaduridos and Bianjie has been warming up since trade relations were established. Alongside Bianjie, Hutori, in which while formal trade relations are sparse or even non existent, Hutori is also a liberal democracy, a fellow kingdom no less, and as such, the Hutorian foreign minister, Henry Kincaid was present, alongside His Highness, Prince Christopher, as well as the Grand Duke of Kenai, on behalf of the Hutorian King. Egelion, also a monarchy with relative democratic customs attended the coronation, His Majesty, Emperor Leon Alexander, Her Majesty, Empress Isabella, Her Highness, Princess Gabriela, and Her Excellency, Royal Councilor Andrea Mondragon y Astures. But of course, that's not all, as Valruzia also sent a representative to the coronation. President of Valruzia, Kaja Kosub and Chancellor Zenon Golas. This is certainly welcomed as Valruzia is also a liberal democracy in Seleya. Luthori, also sent representatives to the coronation, sending His Imperial Majesty, Emperor William XI, Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Victoria Mary, Her Imperial Highness, Elizabeth, Duchess of Armstead. Alongside them, His Excellency, The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Robert Cain and Her Excellency, the Under-Secretary of State for Seleyan Affairs, Carolina Scott. And finally, perhaps the most controversial of all foreign dignitaries, Kalistan.
While many expected Kalistan to boycott the event, given the rather poor relationship between Kalistan and Gaduridos, mostly stemming from the Anantonese Divorce and of course, the issue of Bentasur, the appearance of Kalistan in the coronation has been received mixly, but the state has tried to keep it warm and cordial. As such, Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Carolina II Ananto, Lady Marisol Paz Alvarez-Navarro, Her Imperial Majesty's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sir Thomas Harney, and Her Imperial Majesty's Minister for Trade and Industry, Jamar Rogers. Perhaps, and just perhaps, the fact that Kalistan attended the coronation in good faith shows that diplomacy between the two states can be normalized?
Whatever the case, His Majesty, Víctor de Valcorico was formally crowned as King of Gaduridos, has in his coronation speech, called for unity of all peoples of Gaduridos, and called for "Gaduridos to bravely take a step forward into a new era, and leave past grievances behind in favour of a brighter future". An idealistic speech, warmly received by the country. While republicans remained silent, not wanting to really criticize a fairly popular (albeit young) King, the nationalists have expressed worry over the seemingly cosmopolitan speech.
Given the significance of today, Congress quickly passed a bill formally creating a new holiday. Kings Day, which will always be in May 8th every year. Whatever the case, a new era for Gaduridos has come. To all the countries that attended, even Kalistan, they have the deepest thanks of the Valcorico House, and of the King. Long live the King!

When Congress passes the TRAA, it was devised as a plan to get things going but not as the go to long term plan. So, Congress went to work to develop something more long term, and something that is more active and involved. This week, they presented and passed the Economic Restoration and Trade Reconstruction Act (ERTRA). What does ERTRA do? Well, it looks to provide a proper plan for the state for economic recovery, and more importantly, trade restoration. With the TRAA hitting the lungs of trade, that being ports, the ERTRA looks to expand it, utilizing the Programa de Desarrollo y Revitalización Pública (Public Development and Revitalization Program) to continue the focus on not just ports, but wider trade infrastructure. For ports specifically however, immediate priorities will be expanding container capacity, modernizing cargo handling, deepening harbours for bigger ships, and even digitizing customs and clearance systems for efficiency. Primary focus will go on Ciudad de Gadur port, Maestriq port, and Punto Occidente Port, rather then stretching funding and support for every port in the country. Quality, is better than quantity at this moment.
But trade does not rely on just boats. It relies on tracks and wheels. The Trans-Seleyan Railway is the most economically valuable asset for the two mainland Duchies, Cuernatecas and Manzamal, and cannot be neglected. Efforts must be made to invest into the Trans-Seleyan Railway, modernizing the railway itself will be vital, but also expanding freight train capacity and in the case of Maestriq Port, connecting the port to the railway. Alongside this, the nervous system of trade. Logistics. Warehouses will be vital, and must be expanded in key trade locations, but especially near Duchy borders to encourage development. Finally, roads. While roads can be a double edged sword if traffic is mismanaged, they're equally vital to trade. As such, while Congress has rejected an expansion of the National Highway System via more lanes, connections to industrial corridors will be absolutely supported, as well as highway maintenance to ensure no issues. These aspects will gradually be covered by the PDRP, instead of being enacted all at once.
The goal is to expand the trade capacity of Gaduridos and not only make it more supportive and comforting for traders but also more inviting and encouraging. It'll be a long process to restore the Época Dorada (Golden Age), but the first step towards a journey is to actually take a step.

Radical Party reorganizes into the Liberal Democratic Union; The Torch of Liberalism within Gaduridos.

The Radical Party has long been the frontrunner of liberalism and federalism within Gaduridos. However, the Radicals have been facing decline for a solid while and the 5718 election saw the Radicals do their worst in, arguably, a very long time. This quickly placed pressure on the party from its various factions to reorganize itself and try to increase its electability. This week, in a special party congress, the Radical (Special) National Convention has agreed to reorganize the party into the Unión Liberal Democrática (Liberal Democratic Union). Despite pressure from the republican faction, the ULD has not added republicanism to its party platform, instead focusing on devolution (instead of arguing for the reinstatement of proper federalism), economic liberalism, and social liberalism.
The ULD is hoping that a reorganization will allow itself to appeal to moderates within the middle class and challenge the PSSG in 5722. Alongside this, Congressional Deputy Luciano Fontirroig has been nominated as leader of the ULD, hoping that his centrist credentials will not only apples to Gaduri voters, but also keep the ULD united. While republicans are upset that the ULD is not officially committed to republicanism, they're largely remaining loyal to the ULD. Whatever the case, the ULD is looking to define itself by standard liberal ideals.
Whether a rebrand and refinement will keep the ULD going, or even allow for a victory in 5722 however, is yet to be seen, as the juggernaut that is the PSSG remains strong.

As trade relations with the world expand, slowly but surely, trade relations with Seleyan nations are arguably the most important. Both because of Pan-Seleyanism, and because it's cheaper. This week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the signing of a trade deal with Valruzia. Valruzia will receive oil from Gaduridos (provided thanks to PeGad), and in exchange, Gaduridos will receive medicine and commercial planes from Valruzia. Valruzia will receive a stable, local provider of oil for whatever their needs, and Gaduridos will receive a regional supplier of medicine (reducing costs for the state for healthcare) and commercial planes, which can provide more transportation for Gaduri across the country. A win win.
As trade increases, it does beg the question of if the Seleyan Economic Community should be revitalized as the SEC gradually declined, but if it can be revitalized, the economic benefits to North Seleya would be immense. However, the question is if there even is the political desire to assist in its revival. It would make Seleyan trade significant easier, but it wouldn't be easy to restore the SEC. Whatever the case, trade is gradually increasing and this is providing positives for the economy. But more trade will be needed.
In any case, trade relations with Valruzia may see future economic ties, but that's not a guarantee as Valruzia is quite protectionist economically. But it's still possible to occur. In the meantime, trade deals will need to be expanded as ERTRA continues to kick into motion.

When de la Cruz endorsed currency reform in 5718, many have wondered how that would be introduced to Gaduridos. The country has been on the Fleur for a considerable amount of time. Too long. Wouldn't a change damage the economy more? Normally, yes, if introduced recklessly. This is something that the PSSG has been well aware of as a botched currency reform would undo any progress made at economic growth. That is why the de la Cruz administration has looked to take a very cautious and gradual approach to currency reform. And this week, it's culminated in the "Currency Autonomy and Sovereignty Act" (CASA), which will look to formally phase out the Canrillaise Fleur (CFR) as the formal currency of Gaduridos and move towards the Gaduri Peso (GPO). The transition will be gradual, occuring from the end of the year (November and December) and extend through to the New Year and late winter.
As such, the CFR will be converted at a fixed ratio to prevent psychological inflation and ensure ease. Furthermore, the State Bank of Gaduridos will allow the Gaduri Peso to float but will intervene to prevent volatility. Furthermore, the State Bank of Gaduridos will receive some operational independence, albeit with a clear mandate of ensuring price stability and currency stability, as well as transparent reporting mechanisms. Furthermore to ensure inflation isn't an issue with the transition, inflation targeting will occur, and public quarterly reports. To ensure that banks can handle and support the transition however, automatic conversion of deposits will occur, as well as liquidity guarantees during the transition and light capital controls. Currency reform lives or dies based on banks.
To ensure that the system doesn't collapse over night, these will be gradually introduced over the months. Make no mistake, this won't be a smooth transition, but the de la Cruz administration is determined to make this transition not be as bumpy as it has to be. Ideally by the start of Spring, Gaduridos will have fully adapted to a new currency, but expectations are looking at late spring.

To say relations with Kalistan have seen better days would be a bit of an understatement. Ever since the Anantonese Divorce, both Kalistan and Gaduridos have had relatively cold relations and while it's improved ever so slightly when the Empress of Kalistan and her entourage attended the Coronation of His Majesty, Víctor de Valcorico, it's clear that both nations still have the cold shoulder towards one another. This is exacerbated by the looming issue of Bentasur, which has been a vocal talking point by Gaduri nationalists, and of course, Kalistani nationalists upset over the Anantonese Divorce. However, as stated earlier, relations have improved ever so lightly when the Kalistani Empress attended the coronation, and it seems His Majesty has taken note of this as he's chosen to use his status as King to share his thoughts with the rest of the country, giving a speech in Ciudad de Gadur regarding Kalistani relations, as the issue of Bentasur has largely made the de la Cruz administration hesitant to engage with Kalistan due to the potential political ramifications.
Quote: My fellow countrymen. My fellow Gaduri. Our nation has changed a lot in just a short amount of time. We are making progress towards a brighter future. But, what does a brighter future for Gaduridos mean? A future where every citizen is thriving? A future where Gaduridos is neutral and safe? Maybe it's both. But does prosperity for Gaduridos alone mean a brighter future? Truthfully, I don't think that's a question with an answer. But, I believe that the prosperity of Gaduridos comes from hope. Hope for a better country. For a better Seleya. For a better world. As we look to the future, we cannot do so while doors from the past are still left unopened. Doors, such as the Anantonese Divorce. I know that the Divorce has brought about negative thoughts towards Kalistan. Regret. Envy. Hatred. I'm not asking for the country to let go. But, I am hoping that we, as a country, we as a people, can reconsider. Reconsider the possibility of constructive, positive relations with Kalistan once again. It is my hope that we, as a country, can make that step. If not for the future of the Gaduri and Kalistani people, then surely, for future generations. Generations that will not know the spectre of hatred, but instead the bells of peace. I believe, in each and every one of us in Gaduridos, we have the power to choose something better. So, what does a bright future for Gaduridos mean? I believe that the answer to that question lies in the people of Gaduridos.
While nationalist circles have been skeptical of the speech, most of the public has been fairly receptive to it, and there's been some pressure on the de la Cruz administration to adhere to His Majesty's invitation, and to extend an olive branch to Kaliburg. However, the big question is if the feeling is equally reciprocal or not. But if it is, then perhaps, just perhaps, relations between Kalistan and Gaduridos can improve. And that, it seems, is what His Majesty is hoping for.

When His Majesty gave his speech earlier this year regarding reconcilation with Kalistan, there was equal amounts of skepticism and hope regarding a potential Kalistani response. Suffice to say, when Kalistan offered to invite His Majesty to Kaliburg, skepticism about His Majesty's optimism was abruptly silenced. After all, Kalistan invited the King of Gaduridos to visit. So, perhaps there was reason to believe that relations can be restored to cordial levels, and this week, hoped are high as the Valcorico Estate has confirmed that His Majesty will be accepting the invitation and visiting Kaliburg.
In a quick statement to the press, His Majesty was quoted with saying, "I think this'll be a great first step for our two peoples. If not for politics, then surely for mending the ties between Gaduridos and Kalistan. My hopes are high and I'm optimistic." If the visit goes well, then the chances of reconciliation can look increasingly plausible, and the de la Cruz administration can start taking proper government steps, instead of relying indirectly on Royal Diplomacy. Whatever the case, this is not only a big moment for Kalistani-Gaduri relations, but a big moment for the Valcorico House. A formal Royal visit to another country is most certainly a big deal, and a further sign of legitimacy of the Valcorico House.
Whatever the case, there's a sense of quiet hope and optimism. While the country may not be ready to forgive and forget, if the visit goes well, the country may be ready to move forward and leave the past in the past.

Congress amends the Civil Rights Act; The Act is to be expanded drastically.

While the days of rampant discrimination in society are relatively gone, to many on the left, there's still much work to be done to make Gaduridos a more fair and kind nation. So, when the de la Cruz administration announced it's intents to rewrite the Civil Rights Act to include expansions, many on the left were optimistic about the possibilities. While cynics expected the expansion to be watered down, the PSSG with its majority in Congress was able to pass a modified Civil Rights Act, which has included drastic expansions.
For starters, discrimination will be defined in three categories. Systemic, indirect and direct, and apply to ethnicity and race (a no brainer as Vintallians and Gaduri-Esinsundu can't be left behind in Gaduridos), nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability (of all stripes) and cultural identity. No form of discrimination can be tolerated in Gaduridos, and the Civil Rights Act must be made with that in mind. As such, the Ministry of Interior will receive a commission. The Commission of National Equality, which will have the goal of tracking anti discrimination cases, and investigating cases, audit institutions, issue bindings, and levy fines or sanctions. They will also provide legal support for victims of discrimination, and whistleblower projections.
Full legal recognition of same sex marriage will be applied, as well as anti discrimination efforts in healthcare, housing and employment, and access to gender affirming care. Furthermore, pay equity enforcement, parental leave equality, and workplace protections will fit into gender equality. Disability rights will also be expanded, with workplaces requiring accomodations for inclusion, and accessibility standards. Every citizen of Gaduridos is ultimately a citizen worthy of respect and care. No matter their creed or identity. No matter what.
While Free Soil (and it's allies in the National Party), as well as some of Reform have criticized the act for being a radical departure from its original foundations, progressives across the country (and United Vintalli) have applauded the PSSG for the effort. The promise of equality is a mission that the PSSG looks to dearly uphold, and rewriting the Civil Rights Act is only one avenue. Whatever the case, minorities across the country can rest easy knowing that the PSSG is the party of inclusivity and equality.
