Opinion: The President on Kundrati's place in the Terran arena

Kasaema - The President, Poloni Jastenev, has been recently elected to a full term as an independent. For a while the Kundrati People's Party has ruled the country off and on since the neo-Legionaries lost control of the state decades ago. Now that the 5700s have arrived and with Terra remaining as active as ever, President Jastenev made clear his thoughts on where Kundrati would stand underneath the shadows of two heavyweights in Terra: Wiel and Altea.
Do you believe that Kundrati is at a place now where they can go up to either one of them and ask for a fairer deal?
I believe that we are in a much better position today than we were 50 years ago, 100 years ago, maybe even longer. When the Legion took over everything changed - our relationships with allies became nonexistant, our relationships with our enemies worsened, we had new enemies and few could work with us. Not to mention, obviously, the heinous acts the Legion did to our people and to others. Kalistanis need not be reminded of the fact we sent missiles to their capital. That is the plain truth.
With that history in mind, all that backdrop, we were left at the point where we were invaded twice. The first time only led to democratic self-rule in Etxea propped up only by the arms of Luthori and others. The second time led to Kundrati being liberated - and yet democracy did not come.
Our motto is "Meliora" and it means better in Luthorian. But we don't say we are better than others. No. Whoever made that our motto died extremely long ago so we do not know for sure what they meant. But we believe that we are better when we are stronger and when we are united. During the Legionary rule we were never united and we were never stronger. We were defeated at the end of the day because we were never united.
So I say all of this to explain that we were extremely reliant, at the end of dictatorship, on the good graces of the international community. I think we have made up a good amount of ground in rebuilding some trust between ourselves and Terra. But in our recent history we were the, and excuse my language, lapdogs of Luthorians. We were occupied. That was long ago. But ever since then we've had to be reliant on the Jelbics and the Egelians. I think it has worked out though.
What I know, however, is that at some point we have to rebuild with our own two feet. Not that Wiel or Altea will leave at any moment, but more so that we will have to be forced into picking a side and hoping that the side we chose did not, in fact, lead us to failure. And we cannot say that we are at a point where we can confidently say that a fairer deal can be achieved. But we have wonderful advisors and a wonderful people and I think given enough time that we will make it and figure it out.
You explained that during the Legionary rule that Kundrati was able to attack Kalistan? Wouldn't the international community have done something immediately after? How is the world now in comparison?
I believe that at the time Kundrati was seen as an annoyance. We were saying that Kalistanis should be killed, Luthorians should be eaten, et cetera. So obviously we couldn't have made friends in that environment. Yet we did with Davostag and Likatonia. It turned out that Likatonia was invaded by Lodamun and Kalistan under one empire and they were occupied. They signed a peace treaty saying that never again would there be an alliance between Kundrati and Likatonia. It was understandable then. But that was all what was done then. Davostag worked with Kundrati and traded with them, partially funding what happened, while everyone else bar Luthori and Kalistan either didn't care or sighed.
But Davostag eventually worked with Hutori and came in from the north. Kalistan and Luthori was tired and just wanted it all ended so they worked with us in Etxea. So yes, I will say the international community did something, but not immediately after. No, they had to wait until their powders were ready. In terms of that I think today's world has been more active but also more scary. We have not seen a country being as blatant as Kundrati recently. If anyone attacked Artania or Majatra then it would make sense MATO would ensure the protection of that country. If anyone attacked the north then maybe Egelion would protect. Northern Seleya is mainly protected by the Kalistani umbrella. Maybe Bianjie or Xsampa could do something for Dovani.
But the rest of the world is left out. So if North Dovani attacked New Englia or Vascania attacked some other country or Yingdala tried to recapture Dalibor nobody would give two Kuno. I think Terra is at a point where it is fragmented enough where if you wanted to be like the Legion you could attack if you were not important or strategic enough, but if you were to say go after a patron of the big shots you would be destroyed. It is the modern day Selucian system of patronage.
I say Selucia and you may think wouldn't Selucia be an example otherwise? No. I think at the end of the day Egelion and ourselves didn't go to Selucia's aid. But nobody knows how Selucia is going these days.
Which bloc would you think Kundrati would best belong to?
I think this is not a good question because in a perfect world we wouldn't need blocs and protecting each other would be a nightmare because who would be the big bad wolf?
We are a country that historically was aligned to Beiteynu. However, of course, the situation in the Lost Souls happened. We were aligned with Lourenne until they died off and from there we were neutral. The Legion was aligned with itself and the free zone was aligned with Luthori. And historically alignment was always a rollercoaster, we were doing great with one then things were iffy before Kundrati was divided.
But we are strong in liberal democracy. We are strong in cooperation. A bloc that would be best aligned with the values of liberal democracy and a sense of common good would be the best bloc we would align with. But it cannot mean that we are going to say that we will lock step forever with them. When they need us, we will go with them. When they want us to eat the dinner, we have to eat dinner, we have to eat it. But not necessarily every time we agree with what we eat.
MATO's best advantage, beyond their protection of liberal democracy, is that when one is attacked all are attacked. It gives everyone a sense of purpose. It makes sure that you are responsible for doing the best for the common good. Egelion's advantage is more so that we will help you on your own two feet. They have been more explicit, so to say, and sometimes that is not good. Sometimes it is. But there is no organization they have that brings everyone in check and makes sure we all are doing our part. What can Kundrati contribute? That is what we have to think at the end of the day.
It is like being in a school and you have to be chosen for the dodgeball team. At some point you'll be picked. And at that point you serve at the behest of the team. So what can you contribute to the team?
But it is also school so at the end of the day if you hit your friend and they're on the opposing team it doesn't mean that you hate them or they hate you forever. It is pragmatic. So long as our core values aren't harmed we should be able to work with anyone. Small nations like Kundrati have to make that decision immediately, whether they have to jump one ship or to another, because at the end of the day us small nations can't really do anything on our own. If we invade Luthori tomorrow, we lose. If we invade Trigunia tomorrow, we lose. If they invade us, we lose. End of.

Jelbic investment deal goes through as Wiel and Kasaema agree on subsidies for infrastructure, the economy, and democratic development

Kasaema - President Poloni Jastenev met with Jelbic investors in Kasaema today as continued relationships with Kundrati and the Jelbic Empire has led to, according to several sources in Wiel and Kasaema, a large deal providing significant funds to the Kundrati Union which has been earmarked for investment in infrastructure and the economy.
The deal, which are specifically subsidies from Wiel, will be earmarked towards the restoration and rebuilding of high speed rail throughout the main cities of Kundrati, massive investment in the technology sector and on integrating the bustling gold mining and refinement sectors into the tech industry, alongside investment in cargo infrastructure for seamless integration to the Dundorfian market which notably produces silicon (another material very important to technological development). The investment also promotes additional work on agriculture and agricultural sciences.
This deal, very important to the Kundrati economy, allows for the Kundrati economy to expand from a period of stagnation towards reaching Endralon's or Kirlawa's status of living soon. Let us break down the main points of investment that the Jelbic Empire will provide to the Kundrati Union:
- The investment on cargo and passenger infrastructure will be led by two projects: the rebuilding of high speed rail infrastructure and the construction of infrastructure for seamless trade with Dundorf.
- The investment in rebuilding the high speed rail infrastructure will, once completed at some point before 5740, allow for a one seat fast ride from Riecny Brod in the state of Peghonai in the north to Jildrathi City in the island of Etxea via Kasaema. The service between Etxea and the mainland would be made via a rail ferry service with eventual construction of either a tunnel or a bridge to firmly connect the island to the mainland.
- The construction of infrastructure for seamless trade with Dundorf will mainly allow for the cities of Elvomesto and Tomasadyn to become primarily cargo cities. Tomasadyn especially will, under this new plan, have a large train cargo terminal with rail infrastructure to Luzec where the center can be connected towards, eventually, Keita and Papoc in the south. The cargo terminal would also include a new economic investment program providing for a section of the city next to the cargo terminal for tech-related factories to open up and operate alongside large warehouse facilities and housing programs for the workers. This also includes highway infrastructure connecting these terminals and infrastructure to the rest of the nation. Elvomesto would be connected with a smaller cargo terminal and factory zone with rail and highway connections to Pieskova Hora and, eventually, the northern port city of Riecny Brod.
- For the integration of the gold mining and refinement sectors with the technology industry, the city of Urdaitz in Jildrath Mainland alongside the city of Venora in Celania who are close to gold mines would also be getting cargo terminals and factory infrastructure. This infrastructure would be aimed at gold related procurement and refinement into usuable or near usuable product. These cities would also be connected to Hradna Ves which would become a massive logistics terminal for gold related economic product from the south alongside tech related infrastructure from the west. The city of Hradna Ves would, therefore, be given additional priority for large cargo and passenger transit terminals alongside highway infrastructure and general improvement to already existing infrastructure.
- For agricultural related work, the city to look at is Kadyn in the state of Lirnak. Kadyn is near the agricultural heart of the Kundrati Union which is mainly restricted to the south, the north, and a small strip of land generally concentrated between Takozvani in Peghonai, Kasaema, Hradna Ves in Pilgon, and expanding near Venora in central Celania. With Hradna Ves already being tapped as the infrastructural hub for gold and tech, Kadyn has potential to become the infrastructural hub for agriculture. This includes investment similarly planned for Hradna Ves while also seeing large plots of land in the city planned for industrial development on agriculture including food-related factories and labratories encouraging development of both agricultural products indoors alongside synthesized meats. However, it is most likely that the latter would start to see some development in around 25 to 30 years.
- For all of these developments, funds are being earmarked towards infrastructure development to allow for these advanced industrial programs to work in the first place. Once those infrastructure are nearing completion would priority on funds steer towards these industrial programs.
Already we are seeing interest from local companies and entrepreneurs interested in working with the Government for either space in these new plots or working with the Government to begin work on various related products already. These funds have been freed up as a result of the Jelbic investment allowing the Government of the Kundrati Union to directly prioritize entrepreneurs interested in new technology.
In addition to all of this development, the city of Erregelekua would have a portion of the city set aside for democratic development and political science work. The set-aside portion will include investment into a political sciences college dedicated to the study of democracy and the political world alongside how to improve democracy in Kundrati and abroad. The investment also includes a labratory that could work on technological improvements to elections including higher quality voting machines and infrastructure to seamlessly provide proof of votes without interference. The new National Committee on Democracy would also be headquartered here - the NCD, a program with cooperation from the Kundrati and Jelbic governments, would study Kundrati's democracy and provide advice on how Kundrati's democracy could be improved. The NCD also includes programs for democratic education alongside a team of election observers and training on how to become an election observer or a poll worker. This would be the first Kundrati-wide election observation and poll worker training program in a while.

Kundrati to consider membership in MATO

Kasaema - President Poloni Jastenev announced today in a meeting with business leaders that, after years of considering their options and working with allies on how to join organizations, the Kundrati Union would seek membership in the Majatran-Artanian Treaty and it's associated MATO organization.
In his announcement President Jastenev cited Artanian brotherhood and unity alongside the protection of liberal democracy as a reason for joining. President Jastenev cited the Kundrati Legion's effects on the Kundrati state and of democracy itself as a catalyst for joining saying that the Legion stripped bare all semblence of democracy and ruined the lives of millions of people throughout Terra and that never again could Kundrati allow itself to be conquered by dictatorship. By joining MATO, the President said, the goal is that Kundrati could be restrained from authoritarianism while contributing to the defense of liberal democracy throughout Terra, something which aligns with the modern Kundrati military doctrine.
The process of joining MATO, according to some experts, requires Kundrati to inform MATO and wait for MATO to approve Kundrati's membership. In the meantime, the Kundrati Legebiltzarra is expected to pass the ratification articles of the Majatran-Artanian Treaty allowing Kundrati to formally join MATO when approval is provided.
Kundrati's contribution to MATO is expected to be small at first given Kundrati is rebuilding their defense industry. Historically the Kundrati Union contributed a large navy for the defense of the Artanian and Lievenian Seas alongside a modern air force. It is more than likely that Kundrati could specialize in naval ships and airplanes though this could be covered by other members. Kundrati would be expected, were a MATO member to be attacked, to come to the defense of the member in question.
President Jastenev noted the possibility that joining MATO would place Kundrati into a certain sphere of influence. The President denied this and said that Kundrati was welcome to economic investment and development from anywhere in Terra that wanted to do business in Kundrati and that joining MATO would not affect that beyond Kundrati helping their Artanian and Majatran brothers in arms. The President said that joining MATO was pragmatic and that though some nations will not be happy with Kundrati's decision ultimately they would come around to understand that their economic interests would not be harmed.
Word now waits on whether Kundrati could join MATO or not. President Jastenev said that he would be content with any kind of membership with the hope that Kundrati could contribute to the common Artanian spirit - even if it were that Kundrati would be an observer or a full member or something in between.
