Increasing Debt, Management, and Budget Cuts: Insight of Egelian Economy into the New Century
Since the start of the new century, cutting back on government expenses has been one of the main focuses of the current Conservative government in the Royal Court. The effort, while it was started years ago, has seen little progress. Debt payments, balancing budgets, and cutting back on spending has been a relative ease for the Royal Court and the treasury, yet this has only reduced the debt to GDP percentage form 77% to 74%. It is however useful to understand where the Egelian economy stands at the turn of the century.

Years of absolute rule, sound centrist liberal policies, and a focus on the welfare state has propped up Egelion as one of the most successful and developed nations in Terra. Still with more room for improvement, the nation's financial status, ability to invest, and the prestige of its institutions make it an automatic magnet for economic growth. This work into the economy was developed for centuries. Ages of investing into architecture, housing, education, welfare, industry, finance, and trade has opened up several avenues for Egelion. The nation has gone through moments of high growth and moments of stagnation depending on international situations. 

In 5700, Egelion stood at its strongest, but also at its most vulnerable. The Royal Treasury estimated the national GDP to be around 4 Trillion at the turn of the century, yet debt to GDP remains at 74%, a warning for those in the Royal Treasury. Egelion's strongest sectors remain finance, military, maritime trade, industry, services, and construction. The nation's focus on a diverse economic field made it easy to grow to such a strong level. By far, Egelion is known for its financial institutions which are now conveniently located on almost all of Terra's continents. Egelian investments are also seen on a wide scale international level--usually following conflicts or international emergencies. By far, the Royal Treasury is most content with the prestige of Egelian institutions, both governmental and financial. The well-led machines offer services for millions in all of Terra and are the reason Egelion remains so attractive for investors.

Yet, despite the success seen in international markets and regional economies, Egelion is quite known to go into deep spending to achieve its goals. Much of this can be in the military and international investment sectors, where Egelion fields a large army, navy, robust air force, ICBMs and a state-of-the-art missile defense program. These costs, while heavy, make up much of Egelion's additional spending. The military remains the second highest funded sector in the government, with healthcare and education taking the top spot. Yet, while military costs have increased recently, several public services such as education have increased as well. Egelion's CROWN insurance system which covers state healthcare, childcare, unemployment, and housing is a major cost for the government. This usual temporary assistance program has helped millions get back into productivity after difficult circumstances and remains a popular policy. While it is relevant to see major spending plans into sectors like the military, several investments in public welfare have been made as well.

Overall, the Egelian economy remains one of the strongest in Terra thanks to its ability to invest in itself and in international markets. Citizens have access to quality healthcare and welfare services within the economy while the nation grapples with stricter budgets and higher debt. Recent governments have done much to reduce the debt with little progress nonetheless. The turn of the century seems to be temporarily subdued for Egelion: no major spending and cutting back on programs that no longer fit the needs of the people, which keeping taps open for major sectors. Fiscal and financial responsibility is crucial for a nation like Egelion who strives to be "risk-free" in an eternally chaotic Terra. The next few years will see fewer spending, more institutional reforms, and continuing the nation's ideals of financial dominance through modest and stable decisions.

In a world that often gets lost in the common stream of politics, conflict, economic woes, and tension, culture and belonging gets lost behind--trapped behind a wall that is so difficult to ignore. In Egelion, culture and belonging has long been a national strategy for relevance and for prestige. From funding the arts to funding longstanding educational institutions, culture is not in the backseats. For several years already, Egelion has taken pride and poured billions of crowns into making housing and architecture a main focus. Starting with the national city beautification program in 5629, the nation took several steps to change the architecture of cities and homes altogether. Named "Enlightened Architecture", the nation focused on making buildings more "culturally significant and elegant" instead of focusing on the speed of their construction. It became a focus of quality over quantity. This effort made cities in Egelion more diverse, beautiful, and visually appealing. This program however focused much of its resources on Altea itself as it quickly became a global financial hub and popular tourists destination. Now, 100 years later, Altea stands as one of the most, if not the most, beautiful cities in Terra. Years of special planning, research, and investments created a city that focuses on quality of materials, aesthetic, and efficiency instead of the glorified concrete jungles in other Terran nations.

The Altea metro area has a population of over 8 million people, according to the last record taken by the Royal Government. Within this labyrinth of marble, gold, stone, and glass exists an area of diverse districts and several neighborhoods. There are 14 different districts in Altea, each with their own distinct vibes and cultures. Some of the more relevant and visited districts are: Centro, Distrito Real, and Sorsuela. At each turn, you will find canals, bridges, statues of Egelian culture, and wonderful buildings that are pleasing to the eye. Pollution levels in the city's inner districts are even low thanks to several initiatives taken by city leadership. Overall the city remains a popular location to visit. In the wintertime, the city shines as the snowy weather illuminates the buildings and statues. Locals enjoy promenades and picnics at local parks that are scattered throughout the city, each with their own design, buildings, and sculptures.

Architecture in Altea isn't limited to "Enlightened Architecture". In the city's Centro District, several skyscrapers and office building spread into the sky. This district holds several of Egelion's main global institutions and thus require space to continue their successful operations. In Centro, you will find wide boulevards, buses, businesspeople filling the sidewalks, and modern architecture. These skyscrapers make architecture in the city diverse. On one side, you have the more traditional classical architecture of the nation's past and on the other, more modern cosmopolitan views that shows the country's successful transition. 

What fills Altea's neighborhoods with wealth and prestige is the amount of royal residencies attached to nobility. This is the purpose of the Sorsuela District--the heart of the city. The Egelian Royal Family has several residencies in the city, but two of the most important remain Villamor Palace and Sorseula Palace. Villamor Palace is the official residency of the king. While the King and the family do not live here, this is where official state events take place. It is heavily visited by tourists and remains the largest palace in Egelion. Sorsuela Palace is the actual residency of the royal family. The palace was built on an island in the middle of Lake Sorsuela which is to the west of the Royal District. The palace is heavily guarded at all times and is one of the most important buildings in the city. It remains a visual representation of the city and of its district: prestige, nobility, and wealth.

Altea, remains one of the most important cities in the world. Rising from utter collapse since the days of the PLN thanks to strong leadership, the city is now a major hub for international affairs, tourism, and finance. The city is not perfect. It still has its issues related to crime, but it is a great example of what constant, stable leadership can do to a city. This metro cares not for immediate growth and materials. The city was handcrafted by its ideals and by its belief that quality and beauty is superior to anything else. As the century begins anew, Altea stands as a beacon of opportunity, of an enlightened ideals, and a fusion of classicism and modernity. While in fact most of Egelion's cities have benefited from this ideal for a century, Altea remains the Jewel of the East.

With the end of the civil war on New Verham finally over, elections have taken place, signifying the return of democracy to the nation and the establishment of a new government. Egelian forces, per request of the new president, have lingered in New Verham for the past couple of months to ensure the security of the nation. With the civil war unleashing new levels of violence and instrument, the Egelian Royal Marines and Royal Air Force have spent countless hours trying to ensure peace in the region and enforce the demilitarized zone along the GRCD border best the Ostland border. This mission, ongoing until the verhamese government convicted their own defence forces, is keeping Egelian troops active at all times. On top of providing security for the capital and surrounding cities, navigating the DMZ has become an active challenge. Just yesterday, the Royal Marines had an active confrontation with a group of rebels at the GRCD DMZ. It led to an escalation requiring the assistance of armed vehicles, helicopters, and special forces. While the situation was resolved, it still led to casualties and tensions along the newly established region. 

Royal Councilor Montalivet and The Royal Directory have stated that while the situation in the country is mostly at peace, there are still pockets of resistance that is causing issues due to the still-fresh civil war. Montalivet stated that the Egelian Armed Forces would remain in New Verham until an acceptable and sustainable security replacement could be provided by the new administration. Statements released by Castillo Garibaldi stressed the importance of domestic security and stability in the nation months after the war. Only until a replacement is created would Egelian forces leave the nation. Many at home believe that the forces should leave early, signalling a slight turn to isolationsim. Yet, this perspective goes against Altea's policy of rapid intervention to avoid states falling under instability or malignant ideologies. While the Egelian mission may continue for the next few months, there is no doubt that forces are set to leave once New Verham is ready to uphold their own security.

Three years ago, Nadiyan and Egelian researchers and engineers teamed up to begin prototyping a new stealth fighter for Kerisian forces using archived Trigunian templates as a base of research. For three years, test trials and developments have taken place in Egelion and Nadiya to determine which specifications and details would best suit the new fighter. Egelian military giant, Leonex, led the charge on the fighter's software systems and stealth operation as part of the deal. Leonex directed their workers to work day and night to develop what the company is calling "next generation stealth avionics".  

Original blueprints for the EC-99 showed that the Trigunian software being used on these new fighters were delayed compared to other counterparts. Leonex opted for its own stealth mechanics and operation software. In this regard, a new variant called the EC-99E was created for the Egelian Royal Air Force. While the EC-99 regular model still maintains vast advantages in stealth and maneuverability, the EC-99E will have upgrades in many of its systems funded directly by Egelion for its own needs. Egelion's air force now adds stealth to its regular air fleets. A combination of R5 Rafales, Unionfighters, and now EC-99E's will cover all air support areas such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, multi-role, and stealth close combat. Production on EC-99Es stands at 25 total with over 200 planned to be built over the span of several years.

Following a most successful visit by the Anantonese Empress last month, Altean diplomats have discussed the importance of rekindled relations between Kalistan and Egelion. The Empress' visit, which came after the Foreign Minister visited just days before, was well-received by the entire court. Official proceedings were held at Sorsuela Palace instead of Villamor due to the Emperor's willingness to create a more amiable experience for the empress rather than an official government duty.

The Empress was well-liked by palace staff and court members, including the Royal Court. She was poised, well-educated, and pragmatically spoke with the Emperor over the recent tensions between both empires. At the conclusion of the meeting, the emperor announced that the old Ocean Accords signed decades ago by both nation, was reaffirmed. Egelion and Kalistan would again continue to seek a close Anantonese partnership while respecting communications and decision making. It lead to conversation about security and military cooperation. According to sources, Emperor Leon Alexander had a realization and further policy discussions with his Royal Court after the empress departed: Anantonese Exceptionalism.

Emperor Leon Alexander worked with the IDE and Castillo Garibaldi to prepare a long agenda for a future Anantonese exclusive conference, where several regional states would come together to create a regional bloc based on cooperation and security. The emperor announced this conference at Villamor Palace, where he personally invited the governments of Kalistan, Lodamun, New Endralon, Nadiya, Valruzia, and Gaduridos to Altea to take part in the generational conference. Royal Councilor Mondragon was asked to comment on the emperor's initiative. She stated:

"We have a clean slate with Kalistan at the moment and hold good relations with all the invited countries. I think it is time we all set common ground and work for a larger regional alliance that guarantees our principle of defense, cooperation, and security. We are all working on similar military projects and seem to understand our foreign policies on a deeper level. I think it is time we finally come together and create a larger organization where we can collectively secure our region and our interests." 

The meeting is planned within three years. It is said to take place at Palacio Concordia in central Altea. It is a large meeting that will bring several heads of state together for the creation of a new Anntonese/Seleyan bloc.

Egelion's final preparations to leave New Verham have officially begun. With the establishment of the new Absolute Support Mission, Egelion's presence in the nation can finally begin to decrease. Yet, this does not mean full Egelian absence from the future of the nation. Royal Councilor Montalivet, de facto head of all military affairs, stated that the Egelian military complex is at work around the clock to ensure that the ASM in New Verham is successful and most importantly self-sustainable. Egelian military orders were to supply New Verham with well-balanced Egelian military vehicles and basic armaments for the New Verhamese army. Currently, shipments of basic weapons such as rifles, pistols, ammunition, advanced machinery, and vehicle blueprints have been sent to the nation for their military purposes.

Additionally, Egelian troops have been assigned to begin basic training of Verhamese troops alongside Xsampan forces as well. This focus alongside Xsampa has given an extra opportunity for Egelion to "bow out" of the region. Royal Councilor Mondragon stated that allowing regional partners take over in assisting New Verham correlates with Egelian policy in the region. "Our rapid intervention in the war prevented this conflict from reaching a more complicated regional escalation. Our leadership in the democratization and stabilization of New Verham can only be categorized as a net positive for the continent. Now, as we prepare to pass the torch to our Dovanian allies, we are well aware that New Verham still needs necessary details and resources to ensure it can never again go down the path to civil conflict. We fully trust Xsmapa and Bianjie and a pan-Dovanian sentiment to fully heal the wounds of the nation", finalized Mondragon.

The Egelian Investment Fund, responsible for major redevelopment plans in Rildanor and New Endralon, have pledged over 2 Billion Crowns towards the development of New Verham. This fund may be used as needed by the government of New Verham for development purposes. Whether it is needed for infrastructure or for the ASM, it is up to the discretion of the government. Additionally, the Real Academia, through their financier Villar y Zepeda, have also pledged assistance with the construction and modernization of educational institutions like universities and schools. The Real Academia has pledged 100 million Egelian Crowns to this assistance program and has pledged more oversight for the fund to be used for education purposes.

Royal Councilor Mondragon stated that Egelion is set to fully depart from New Verham within a year. Before leaving, the Armed Forces will ensure that the ASM continues successfully and that New Verham can continue its growth after the war. Despite foreign headlines, Egelion accomplished what it claimed to do at the start of the conflict. Leadership, assertive intervention, and efficient development has brought New Verham back into a nation with promise.

Preparing for the Conference at Concordia: Egelion's Motives and Goals for Conference
As Egelion prepares to host a large, multinational conference in the coming months, several analysts and political pundits have begun to question: what will Altea's policy look like? It the recent weeks, both Lodamun and Kalistan have outlined their visions for the meaning. From a more hardline stance with Lodamun to a more open vision from Kalistan, the meeting is set to create differing views and opinions. Members from Centenario's editing team inquired the IDE about Altea's proposed ideology and vision for the conference. they were initially met with brief silence as the team at the IDE were clearly not set on policy. Yesterday, Centenario sat with the Royal Councilor herself and asked about the direction of the conference. 

According to reports, Egelion will likely ask for three main objectives at this conference: increased cooperation, direct communication, and join-military cooperation. Royal Councilor Mondragon debriefed much of the aforementioned objectives during the interview. She states that Egelion will not seek or demand a collective security or mutual defense agreement in the conference. This would result in a complete military control of foreign policy and unlikeable dependence that Egelion does not wish to pursue. Complete independence in foreign policy decision-making is a non-negotiable for Altea. To that end, Egelion will push for more military cooperation. It's details is up for interpretation. From what was discussed at Castillo Garibaldi last week, the delegation is mainly looking for joint-patrols and joint-exercises as highlighted by Lodamun's Afterburner Exercise.

On cooperation and communication, Mondragon stated that Egelion seeks to create an "intelligence and open-communication line". This agreement would encourage states to announce military movements or procedures before they happen. This is in line with the terms set by Kalistan and Egelion during their individual meeting months ago. Any military action that Egelion, or any other nation, might take that concerns the region must be communicate. While there is a fine line between communication and permission, Mondragon stressed that Egelion is not looking to create a "permission clause" rather use the agreement as a "heads up" communications system instead. This, together with the military goals, enforces Egelion's aims to be transparent on military actions and accept potential coordination with regional partners--leaving behind the tradition of acting first, communication second.

Finally, Egelion wishes to open up more cultural and economic cooperation. The Real Academia expressed several points for less hard power strategies in Seleya and create direct access for cultural diffusion. While efforts between Kalistan and Egelion--as well as within the Kerisian Empire--already exist, the IDE and Real Academia hopes it can lead to a greater regional diffusion effort. Mondragon and the IDE will be joined by the Emperor and Royal councilor Montalivet at this conference. They will ensure that Egelion, while coming in with objectives, remains humble and open to hearing differing opinions. In the end, greater cooperation and communication without hindering independent foreign policies is the main goal for most nations, including Egelion.

As the government continues to engage in a multi-nation conference at Concordia Palace down the road, Emperor Leon Alexander's projects have continued without delay throughout the nation. In Norterra, there is a multi-million dollar effort to repair infrastructure going north to south due to constant snow-related issues. In Cartablanca, the government hopes to replace Libertaria as the top trading destination in the nation. However, the most significant project this year was the completion of the Arch of the Centuries, or "Arco de Los Siglos". The arch, commissioned by the Emperor a year ago, is located in the famous Sorsuela District of the Altea. The district, quickly becoming the most architecturally sophisticated and wealthiest in all of Terra, now treats tourists with a new symbol of Egelian prosperity.

Designed by architect Marco Calderon, the arch stands in the middle of Avenida del Rey, Altea's main boulevard that goes through the heart of the city. Made from a mix of limestone and marble, the arc celebrates several of Egelion's accomplishments and displays several symbols. From the national animal to the goddess of wisdom and strategy, the Arch of the Centuries is a new structure that shows pride, the longevity of the Egelian people, and its commitment to improve the quality of life in the nation. Calderon calls it "a greater sight than Villamor Palace". His inspiration for his design was based on the Arc of Victory in Eroncourt that stood in the center of the Avenue des Princes. Calderon claims that while "I looked for greatness in the arc, inside I found pride. We did not need a tall or magnificent structure, but one that encapsulates what it is to be Egelian and where our nation currently stands."

The arch is being visited by thousands of people already as its grand unveiling was officially last week. Pictures on social media are circulating, leaving many wanting to visit the grand landmark during their trip to the royal capital. Calderon was praised by the Emperor for his "individualistic approach" and being able to catch a glimpse of Egelion through the structure. Calderon is now being booked by several investment firms and engineering companies to begin design on other structures throughout Egelion. He has stated that he would like to focus on projects outside of Altea, concluding that the capital is so opulent it makes the rest of Egelion look like "mierda." Regardless of his future works, Calderon has given the nation a new landmark to be proud of. One that represents the whole nation and all of its people.
