The Dolgavan Minister of Defense Laimzieds Krēsliņš announced today that Dolgava will be embarking on program that will have Dolgava replace its aging fleet of nuclear submarines, and replace them with brand new Śuketė Class nuclear submarines. The design which Dolgava has implemented with two generations of nuclear submarines in the past, will now be used a third time, to crate state of the art, world class nuclear attack submarines, that will primarily be tasked with defending Dolgavan shipping, defending Dolgavan sovereignty, and providing Dolgava with a means of keeping its part of treaty, to defend and control the Karzon strait, along with ensuring that Dolgavan interests are protected around Dolgavan waters

Krēsliņš said in a press conference today the details of program with the following,

Quote:Today, Dolgava will embark on ensuring our national security into the future, through protecting our shipping lanes, boosting our ship building capacity, and providing jobs to thousands of Dolgavan workers. Today, we will be announcing a 31 billion DOL plan that will create the 3rd generation of the Śuketė Class nuclear attack submarine. The total budget off the program, will also include refurbishing our submarine facilities located in Dolgariaoplis and at the Troll Mountain Submarine bases.

The shipyards that will build these 6 new submarines will be located at Dolgariaoplis and at the Troll Mountain facility. We will be bringing together Dolgava's sharpest minds, to ensure that this new generation of submarine is better than any other submarine that Dolgava has had before. The project will hopefully take 10 years to complete, however if we need to prolong the program to ensure that the submarines are the best they can be, we will do so.

Through this program, we will once again be able to protect our shores, and build a firm foundation for expanding Dolgava's naval fleet in the future. We are committed to expanding Dolgava's blue water navy, as most of what Dolgavans believe in and support. We want to ensure peace and security throughout not only our shores, but Keris and our region as well. We do that through building a capable navy!

The Dolgavan navy will be scrapping old ships in an effort to recycle steel and helping to pay for some of this program, by recycling outdated ships, they can make the program more affordable, and have responsible environmental impacts from this program. The power plant in these ships will be a more efficient nuclear reactor which produces 220 MW of power and producing 300,000 hp. It will displace 8289 tons (metric), and will be armed with 8 x 673mm (26.5 in), torpedo tubes instead and an undisclosed number of torpedo and cruise missiles in their torpedo rooms.

For months the Conservatives have been calling for increased military buildup, and with this move the Jaanus administration has made it clear that they are not afraid to build up the Dolgavan military, and this program goes to show that.

We are heading into the final week of Parliament as soon it will be early election time and with that special rules and a annulment of Parliament, unless for national emergencies.

The Dolgavan Prime Minister Jaanus Jogi announced today that early elections will be held in the fall of this year, with the campaign beginning this August. The decision comes as his Dolgavanas Piena Partija (DPP), (Dolgavan Dairy Party) is neck and neck with the Dolgavas Konservatīvā Partija (Conservative Party of Dolgava) (DKP) which is currently led by the Leader of the Opposition Toivo Meri. Meri has risen through the ranks of the Conservative Party to become it's leader and has led a effective campaign against the Government.

The Conservatives complaints stem around the current Government not taking action in terms of problems they see in the foreign policy arena. For instance they believe that Dolgava should take a more firm stance on Trigunia, and that the ongoing government there is illegitimate. They also believe that Fascism in Artania should be squashed, with Meri calling for Dolgava to send military aid to Luthori.

The Jogi Government has taken steps to mitigate this, such as building a large airfield in the Hodari strait, or developing a nuclear submarine program, but they cannot seem to shake the growing Conservative presence.

Currently between 5 aggregates show the DPP up by 2.2% with a margin of error of 4%. The race puts the Conservatives and the Dairy Party both even at around 45% and the Social Democrats at around 9-11%

In terms of a working coalition, the Conservatives and the Dairy Party seemingly will have to get a confidence and supply agreement with the Social Democrats, or create a grand coalition, however with the election months away this is all pure speculation.

The biggest force driving less voters to vote for the DPP is mainly voter fatigue, Jaanus Jogi's approval numbers remain very high for a Dolgavan Prime Minister sitting on close to 10 years of governance, but there is a growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party, and voters are more and more pushing for change. We cannot be sure what the results will be, but whatever they are, the results will probably be historic and the margins razor thin.

Dolgavans are waking up and not sure who won last night. The results are in, but the margins are thin, extremely thin. The two contending parties, the Dolgavanas Piena Partija (DPP), (Dolgavan Dairy Party) and the Dolgavas Konservatīvā Partija (DKP) both stand within a percent of each other in the national poll, and a one seat difference in the Reiksaima. The results are stunning and very clear.

Quote:DPP: 48.7%% - 92 seats
DKP: 47.9% - 91 seats
DSP: 2.8% - 6 seats
Others/Independents: 0.6% - 0 seats

The Government sits with a single seat above the challenging party, the Conservatives, with Jaanus Jogi, and his government now in a precarious situation. His fall from 125 seats 5 years ago, shows the challenge that Toivo Meri and the Conservatives have put up. In the Dairy Party camp, they were not happy with the result tonight, some wanted to hope that the polls were wrong, that Jannus Jogi, would sweep to yet another election victory, however tonight, his government stands on the edge of a electoral cliff.

The Conservatives celebrated tonight, as if they won. However they are sitting at 91 seats, and with the evaporation of independent MP's in the Reiksaima, they now have to make a difficult choice, work with the DPP, or the SDP. The Social Democrats are a non starter, as the Conservatives have stated clearly that they will not work with them at all!

The DPP has somewhat more wiggle room. they have not ruled out the SDP, however many of the the DPP, MP's could very well start a vote of non confidence motion against their own government, if the SDP is included in a coalition.

The DPP could also form a minority government, as they will get the first shot to form a Government and send it to the Queen, if they can get the DKP to form a working coalition with them, it might ensure that the Reiksaima at least for now, runs smoothly, and prevents yet another snap election.

Political commentators across the country are saying a another election is "inevitable" and pollsters are frantically trying to get new polls out into the public eye, showing that aftermath of this election. For now both parties will have to go into negotiations, and until we get a clear result, we will just have to wait and see!

The biggest loser of the night is the Dolgavas Sociāldemokrātiskā Partija (Dolgavan Social Democratic Party) which has been wandering in the political desert of obscurity for years now, and polls showed them taking 9-11% of the vote up until the election. However the drastically under performed, and got 2.8% of the vote nationwide, and only 6 seats. The leader of the DSP [font=sans-serif]Helgi Ruutli[/font] called the result a "great failure" and resigned her position as party leader, leaving the DSP to scramble to find a new leader as they have a slight chance of making it in a confidence and supply agreement. Despite winning only 6 seats, 4 of the 6 are brand new politicians to the political seen, and could make a splash in the DSP.

Dolgavan lawmakers have been negotiating for two months to no avail. No party can form a Government, mainly because the Dolgavas Sociāldemokrātiskā Partija (Dolgavan Social Democratic Party) who are currently without a leader, are not willing to cooperate with either party, and both parties struggling to form a coalition together.

At first the talks seemed like the Dairy Party and the Conservatives would be able to form a coalition. The Prime Minister met with the opposition leader multiple times in the past two months, and insiders have reported the two sides being close to a working coalition. However the Conservatives a evenly mixed cabinet of DPP and DKP politicians, and talks broke down when discussing which cabinet positions would be for each party.

The Prime Minister came to the nation today, and said that he could not form a government, and according to Dolgavan law, snap elections will be held in the coming months, with February 4th being the date of the next Dolgavan election. A portion of his statement is below

Quote:After long negotiations, as your Prime Minister, I must say, we cannot form a working government coalition and I cannot give her majesty the Queen a Government to form. Because of this, according to the Dolgavan constitution. It is regrettable, and I know many Dolgavans will be upset, or confused on how the future will hold. However, we will have another election, and whoever comes out on top, will form the next Government. It is only fair that the Dolgavan people get a chance to decide.

There is lost of criticism toward the two parties right now as many people see no point in holding more elections. This along with the DSP, soon having a new leader, if they can use this as a political plank to attack the two rigth parties, it could lead to the DSP doing better than their disastrous last result. The DSP leadership election will take place in December, and will give them 2 months to campaign.

For a nation already tired of elections, and two parties now exhausted, they get to go back to the campaign trail? What will happen is anyone's guess.

Finally, after months of uncertainty and chaos, the Dolgavan people have spoken, and they have chosen a Conservative Government. Jaanus Jogi's run as Prime Minister is over, and after several years, a new Conservative Government is back in power. The results show a big night for the Conservatives, and the Social Democrats winning back a few more seats, for the Dairy Party, it was a night where their government ended.

DKP: 51.3% - 97 seats
DSP: 4.2% - 9 seats
Others/Independents: 0.6% - 0 seats

The Conservatives celebrated, with their leader Toivo Meri poised to become Dolgava's next Prime Minister. In a speech to supporters in Aikums, he spoke to supporters in a passionate tone.

Quote:Tonight friends, we have our country back! Yes it was a fight, but we are going to be moving on to a new Government, with new ideas, and bringing Dolgava to a new future. For too long we have been unsure of where our place is in the globe, and where we stand, but with this conservative government, we will be the leaders of innovation, industry and buisness! Together, we will accomplish the next steps in bringing Dolgava back to once again being not only a regional superpower, but a global leader.

The Dolgavan people have given the Conservatives a mandate, and with this mandate, we will lead this country on to a better, brighter, and stronger future!

For the DPP, the loss of government is making many call for Jaanus Jogi to resign, and several others inside of the party have begun to look for leadership results. Jaanus has stated that he will stay on as minority leader, but that will certainly be challenged by members of his party.

For the Social Democrats, they gained seats, which helped raise their seats from 6 in the last election now to 9 seats. This is not as good as 11 seats they had before the election in September. However with their new leader Bonaventūra Krauze has brought excitement back to the Social Democrats, and has actually created a strategy that worked, and has a strategy that gained them seats in the Reiksaima.

The elections saw a change in Dolgavan politics that had the Conservatives back in power. Toivo Meri will be the next Dolgavan Prime Minister and this will have the conservative establishment in power once again in Dolgava.

Today in an official announcement, Queen Jaanika has announced that she has officially been engaged to Kristiāns Aspers, apart of the Aspers Family, the family that owns Dolgava's largest private Bank Dolbanka. The two have known each other ever since childhood, as the Aspers family is not only one of the most richest and influential families in Dolgava, but they are friends with the Rothingren-Ludwig's.

The announcement was made by the Royal Palace, which included several pictures of the two holding hands, and the Queen with her engagement ring. Soon afterwards, the Queen shared this announcement over the internet, which quickly created quite a buzz over Dolgavan internet space. Many onlookers were happy for the Queen, with many saying that she was extremely brave to be finding love, after losing her husband Prince Verners, in that horrible plane crash. One Conservative member of the Reiksaima said on live television today after hearing the news that "Jaanika deserves nothing but love and support, as she moves forward. She needs a husband, and her son needs a father, to properly heal".

The news has been overwhelmingly positive, as Kristiāns Aspers is not a well known public figure, but his status as being in the Aspers family does help in that regard. The new Prime Minister even congratulated the Queen today, by saying in a press conference that "I am happy for her, I really am", and the leader of the opposition Jaanus Jogi, who knew her well as he was the former Prime Minister wrote on social media that "I am certain that Jaanika has found someone that she can be with for many years, someone she can grow her family with, and someone who will advise her in her roll as Monarch. My congratulations to them both".

The Royal Palace also in the note stated that there will be a private wedding, and that the public should respect both of their privacy, out of respect. Kristiāns Aspers will be given the name Prince Kristiāns once he marries Queen Jaanika, and will have his name changed to Rothingren-Ludwig as well.

For the Queen, this moment is bittersweet, and marks the beginning of a new time in her life. One that hopefully she will heal from the past, and move forward into the future.

Queen Jaanika is once again has been wed, in a ceremony, that took place inside of St. Matthew national cathedral. The ceremony itself was kept private, but there was still festivities for the royal couple as they were paraded through the streets of Aikums, in an open top limousine. Crowds were on the street to greet the royal couple as they went through downtown Aikums, with streets in the downtown core being closed, and policy barricading over 10 blocks to keep spectators and the parade members safe.

This marks Jaanika's second wedding, due to the unfortunate passing of her first husband, but for the Queen and the royal family, it is a symbolic time of moving on, and continuing forward. There was pomp and circumstance for this event because of the tragedy that has befallen the Queen, and this was a clear step forward for not only the Queen but for the country.

The Queen and Prince Kristiāns have decided that they will be honeymooning in both Kalistan, and Istalia, two countries that are considerably warmer than Dolgava this time of year. In the later country, the Queen will be making an official state visit after the honeymoon, and will be meeting with the new government there. For the Queen even a time like this, she is devoted to her duty.

For the Dolgavan Royals this marks a new beginning once again, it fills a hole for Queen Jaanika, and it will surely mark a new era of humanitarianism for the Dolgavan royals.
