The Revolutionary Unity Government is created

After the death of Casella and the lack of a replacement for the Segretario Generale, Erminio Boni, Amanzio Berni, Publio Carvelli, and Nevio Russo united in a pact to rule together until a new leader was decided somehow. This led to the formation of a temporary government called "Governo di Unità Rivoluzionaria" (Revolutionary Unity Government). Every decision for Istalia now had to pass through the Revolutionary Unity Government. However, several differences can already be spotted in this new government, which might lead to an internal division that will need to be dealt with.
Erminio Boni
Boni used to be the Minister of Internal Affairs. He caught everyone's attention with his message towards the government of Pontesi in March 5558 when the travel ban for Pontesi was announced:
Quote:The government of Pontesi has banned our magazine, arrested innocent Istalians in Pontesi, insulted us, attacked their own people for owning and distributing our texts - we are not going to let the government of Pontesi continue with these actions. Let this be a final warning. We do not trust the government of Pontesi and believe they might be plotting against us and attack us any time. They should be glad we did not directly attack them, but we were kind enough to just cut off any possibility of contact between our nations! Let this reactionary and pathetic bourgeois government rot away, as they are not going to stop the proletarian revolution that is inevitable in Pontesi...
He might cooperate with Amanzio Berni, as they both hold similar views and seek to continue the legacy of Casella. He, however, was particularly more fond of Carboni.
Amanzio Berni
Amanzio Berni used to be the Minister of Foreign Affairs for much of the Socialist Republic, having contacted foreign leaders multiple times and sent several messages abroad. He is particularly fond of Casella and seeks to continue his legacy. He saw Casella as a marvelous strategist and intellectual that saved the communist cause in Istalia, and his stress on proletarian internationalism inspired Boni especially, considering he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Nonetheless, he might take a more diplomatic turn now that Casella is gone, which might translate in new alliances and trading with likeminded nations, but still a fierce opposition to capitalist nations.
Publio Carvelli
Publio Carvelli used to be the Minister of Defense. He cooperated with Casella and Carboni when they began reforming the army of vanguard workers, having said the following back then:
Quote:Our plan is not to cause a direct confrontation with Pontesi and Beiteynu - or any other nation. We consider that declarations of war are methods of carrying out a rather violent and extreme form of imperialism by the bourgeoisie, desperate in its need to expand their resources. Since our goal is merely to spark up revolutions throughout Terra, we will not fall for imperialistic, bourgeois tactics. Our tactics will consist of what is known as asymmetric warfare: we are not going to use conventional soldiers and tactics, but rather proletarian militias loosely organised by a centralised group to coordinate properly. Guerrilla tactics will be our way to go. We are not seeking to destroy any nation, nor conquer it: we seek to defend ourselves and ensure the proletariat from the respective foreign nations are able to carry out their revolution by remaining alive to protect, aid and encourage them. We hope that the governments of Pontesi and Beiteynu will not resort to war against us, but were they to do it, we will not employ similar tactics, even if it means our demise from disadvantage. I repeat - we are not imperialists.
Nonetheless, over time, he became more radicalised and sought to centralise the army further. This might lead him to support Russo, who seeks to centralise every state apparatus in Istalia further, despite the fact he agrees more with Casella and Carboni on their anti-imperialist stances. He might position himself as a balanced force between the two sides, while slightly favouring Russo, although he has become more paranoid and cautious over time, which might lead to becoming influenced by Russo's ideological stance.
Nevio Russo
Nevio Russo held no political office in the Socialist Republic, but became a prominent and influential member in the PCI over time, frequently writing letters to his comrades. He had a radical view on Majatrans, seeing them as a threat to the stability of Istalia, as they might become lured by counter-revolutionaries and external enemies, suggesting in private letters to massacre them. Over time he became more radical, suggesting to centralise Istalia further and take stronger measures. While he respected Casella and Carboni, he found them to be weak at times, and he tried to influence them to take more extreme measures, such as banning non-socialist parties and seizing the government when the Liberals won elections. It is also rumoured he had something to do with the sudden disappearance of the Forum Liberale. When his letters were leaked, he held a speech saying the following:
Quote:Lavoratori d'Istalia... And non-workers of Istalia. I know some of you are expecting me to deny that those letters are real, others to apologise for them. But I will not. I have remained in the shadows for many years, keeping my opinions for other members of the PCI. But that's in the past. Istalia is stronger than me and it will survive without me, only if we are willing to see the reality of our situation and take stronger measures. Yes, I said what those letters said about Majatrans. And I repeat it: we don't want potential counter-revolutionary traitors in our nation, from liberals, to Majatrans! If my fellow party members can't see this... If you, Istalian workers, cannot see this, then I'm afraid we're doomed. I will not apologise for my words. As for influencing Casella - what does it matter? I didn't see anyone complaining about what he did. I don't see anyone doing it still. Why should it matter that I was the one who convinced him to do it? Wake up, Istalia! We need a strong hand, not a weak one.
He might frequently not agree with the rest of leaders, especially Boni and Berni, and might try to influence them to follow his ideas, as he did with Casella. Carvelli might be lured to some of his solutions and beliefs, especially if the situation of Istalia worsens.

The Revolutionary Unity Government welcomes Kundrati

This week, the President of Kundrati, Christian Akerlund Mnesilochus Santoro Kafuricus, visited Istalia to discuss further cooperation between the two nations. The leaders of the Revolutionary Unity Government met in private to discuss the terms proposed by Kundrati, which asked to let Kundrati invest on Istalian film and television industry, broadcasting Kundratijan television in Istalia, and promoting cultural exchanges between Kundrati and Istalia through the creation of an "Istalia-Kundrati Cultural Council". Nonetheless, the reactions from the leaders were a bit mixed: while they agreed on cooperating with Kundrati, some of the leaders disagreed with the last term, particularly Russo and Carvelli, as they are suspicious of Kundrati after having received Pontesians to discuss trade deals with them, of significant importance. Due to a lack of majority approval of the last term, the creation of an "Istalia-Kundrati Cultural Council" will not be approved, at least for as long as the relations between Istalia and Pontesi are hot, and/or Kundrati is favourable in any way to Pontesi.
"We respect Kundrati's decision to remain neutral, and we will not seek to convince them to cut ties with Pontesi, nor to take a stance against Pontesi, as unlike the Pontesian government, we are not imperialists and we are not going to go nation after nation to convince them to join us in our crusade against Pontesi and embargo them. Nonetheless, some of us remain sceptical enough of Kundrati to put some limits in our cooperation, as we cannot know how fond of Pontesi they actually are." said Berni in a joint statement, speaking in behalf of the Revolutionary Unity Government, despite his personal disagreement with the decision. However, the rest of the proposals by Kundrati were accepted and will be enacted as soon as possible, which hopefully might improve the relations between Istalia and Kundrati.

Amanzio Berni found dead in an alleyway; martial law enacted

Today, 18th of August of 5571, Amanzio Berni was found dead at 9 a.m. in an alleyway near the building of the Revolutionary Unity Government. Berni was one of the four General Secretaries of Istalia that united under a pact. A funeral was immediately held, as private as possible, and the three remaining leaders (Boni, Carvelli, and Russo) held a meeting at afternoon. Apparently, Russo proposed enacting a sort of martial law that saw the support of Carvelli, while Boni, who was suspicious of Russo, disagreed with the proposal. Nonetheless, due to majority approval, the martial law was enacted. The Revolutionary Unity Government centralised the armed vanguard, making it a more professional army under the orders of the three General Secretaries. No one was allowed to leave their homes without permission from the government, and in order to get permission they had to specify where they were going and for what motive.
Boni has expressed his disgust for these measures as well as for what happened to his friend and comrade Berni. Nonetheless, aware of his disadvantage, he has decided to remain quiet and try to help people as much as possible. In a speech, he said that he doesn't "seek to oppose the decision of the Revolutionary Unity Government," but that he was "deeply disappointed that this decision was taken" and that in his eyes it represented "an overthrowing of the socialist government, and the victory of the counter-revolution."

Erminio Boni arrested and executed for treason

General Secretary Erminio Boni, the last one remaining loyal to the ideological line of Casella and Carboni, was arrested for treason and threatening to kill the General Secretary Nevio Russo in September. One month later, after a long debate on what to do with Boni, Nevio Russo and Publio Carvelli decided to execute Boni, finding him a threat to the cause and the stability of the nation. While the details are unknown, Russo has only publicly said that Boni aimed at him with a pistol just after having accused him of having betrayed the cause. "I understand how this might look, but we are living in complicated times. We must ensure the revolution, that's what Casella and Carboni wanted to do. And that's what I'm going to do, even if it means having to take drastic measures, against friends and enemies alike. Per i lavoratori Istaliani..."
This measure has been met with mixed reactions, some applauded it and saw it as a necessary measure, while others saw it as the end of the possibility of the revolution Casella and Carboni were hoping for. Nonetheless, one thing is clear: anyone who sought to continue the legacy of Casella and Carboni was now dead. A new era for Istalia is about to begin, and only time will tell how good it will be.

The Revolutionary Unity Government is suspended

Following the deaths of Amanzio Berni and Erminio Boni, the Revolutionary Unity Government only has Publio Carvelli and Nevio Russo left. Seeing these two agree with each other, the RUG has been suspended and Nevio Russo has been appointed as General Secretary of Istalia, while Publio Carvelli will be Secretary of the General Congress. Together with this, Russo has suspended elections and changed the names of various cities: In honour of Auro Casella, Romula will now be known as Casellaria; in honour of Beato Calabresi, Neapulia will be Calabresia; and in honour of Millio Nenti, Verunnia will be now Nentia.
One of the first measures, carried out in December, of Russo and Carvelli has been depriving of political rights to anyone of Majatran origin, regardless of class and status. This is done as a response to the threat caused by Ahmadi radicals in Istalia for many years already. "We cannot trust Majatrans, as much as it saddens me. It must be done." However, there have been no plans - at least not publicly so far - of going beyond those measures.

Istalia attacks Pontesi and Kafuristan

Today, 24th of April 5574, the government of the Socialist Republic of Istalia, led by the General Secretary Nevio Russo and Secretary of the General Congress Publio Carvelli, has ordered troops from Fidelia and Cisavugli (northern Alaria) to attack the nations of Kafuristan and Pontesi. Around 350.000 soldiers have already moved from Fidelia and Cisavugli to the southeastern coast of Kafuristan, and another 250.000 soldiers from Cisavugli to the eastern coast of Pontesi. The General Secretary Russo made a formal statement:
Quote:To the governments of Pontesi and Kafuristan, the nation of Istalia formally declares war to the both of you. It is time for you to pay the price of messing with our politics. One of you was behind the assassination of Auro Casella... and likely Amanzio Berni and Erminio Boni. We also believe Kafuristan, and probably Pontesi too, might have been cooperating with the Ahmadi radicals attacking our nation for years already. We're not willing to have a nice discussion with you and hear what lies you have to say. To death with you, Istalia will export the revolution to the nations of Pontesi and Kafuristan finally! Proletariat of Istalia, rise up and join us in this cause for the international proletariat! This is just the start...

The statement was met with the support of many radicals that had gotten fed up of the situation of the world and how other nations - most notably Pontesi - have been trying to undermine and destroy Istalia and its possibility for a revolution ever since the cause began. However, some other Istalians, including some communists, are beginning to regret this decision and see it as a deviation from the line of Casella, thinking this is just an imperialist ambition by Russo and his government, which has turned to revisionism. For many Istalian communists, Istalia has fallen to opportunists, and Istalia is in no position to win this war. They have been trying to convince the workers not to join the cause, as it's suicidal and counter-productive for the revolution. However, the government of Istalia has answered with violence and repression of such views, encouraging more workers to join the army and fight for the cause.
"How will Pontesi and Kafuristan react to this, entirely depends on them. However, with tensions arising globally, this might lead to worse things than any of us, even Russo himself, could begin to imagine." said Publio Carvelli. "But we must fight for the survival of our cause, and it is undeniable that Pontesi and Kafuristan are a threat to us. We must get rid of this poison as soon as possible, even if that means our defeat... If we don't fight, we'll be defeated eventually regardless." The troops sent to Pontesi and Kafuristan are arriving to their destinations at the moment.

After the government of Istalia sent a total of 600.000 soldiers in a suicide mission to formally declare war, to Pontesi and Kafuristan, one month later, the first wave arrived at Pontesi and has begun fighting Pontesi. The plan is the following: send a total of three or four waves consisting of 250.000 soldiers in ships. Once the first wave arrives and starts fighting Pontesi, the second wave comes in (already close to the first wave, but far enough to not be spotted by Pontesi's radars) to support. The objective of the first wave is to test the capabilities and tactics of the enemy, and spread a message: that Istalia has nothing to lose and is willing to go far to destroy Pontesi. The second wave comes in as support after there have been several losses. Then, when the second stage of the plan to attack Pontesi is enacted, the third (or four) waves will come in.

Since the route is long, fewer soldiers are deployed to Pontesi. Instead, the larger amounts have been sent to Kafuristan, focusing on it due to proximity. 350.000 soldiers were sent to Kafuristan by ship and have already arrived at the southeastern coast, where they're fighting to occupy it in order to expand further into Kafuristan. So far, neither nation has moved to attack Istalia, but Istalia is cautious. "We are planning to use our well-developed aerospace technology and equipment, as well as other tech and equipment we've mentioned beforehand publicly, since we can't afford to sacrifice and use many ships, and in the case of Pontesi, it'll make our route longer. We, however, are not going to publicly state our plan further than this... Just know that everything's planned carefully, even though we understand that the general public might think we're just pulling a suicidal mission." said Publio Carvelli.
So far, several nations have positioned themselves against Istalia, sanctioning it and condemning the war. However, one nation in particular caught the attention of General Secretary Russo: Lourenne. Russo said that Lourenne "has no right to condemn and criticise Istalia or Majatra for going to war, when a century ago they were warmongering with Beiteynu and its allies, and has never abandoned its imperialistic ambitions. Even if Lourenne indeed no longer wants to engage in warfare - which we doubt, but that's hard to prove anyway - they are still imperialists and have no right to criticise us!"

Planes sent towards Pontesi during distraction

After the second wave of warships arrived at Pontesi's coasts to fight with the first wave one, Istalia has sent a few airplanes transporting troops and followed by some fighter jets to protect them in case they are spotted and shot. The planes take around 10.000 soldiers totally, however, they will not be deployed at the same time and locations: half of them are going to be deployed near the coast where the ships are fighting, but somewhat far from it to avoid being spotted as easily and measures taken against them. They are being deployed to the north while the other planes transporting the other half amount of soldiers, together with some ships from the second wave, created a distraction, making Pontesi think they are deploying somewhere else. Part of the first wave has been ordered to take a look at the soldiers that will be deployed, to ensure that the operation is successful and they are not spotted and attacked, and in case of happening so, trying to defend them and the location where they deploy.
The fighter jets following the plane that will be deploying will be tasked with bombing any bases and other buildings/locations that might make the operation more difficult, and once the soldiers are deployed, their task will be to aid the ships by attacking from air any enemy attacking the Istalian ships. Once the soldiers are deployed, the other transport planes will have to wait some more to analyse the situation: if the coast where the ships are fighting is won over by Istalia, these other 5.000 soldiers will deploy in the coast to occupy the territory while the soldiers in the remaining ships disembark in the nearest port. If, however, Istalia struggles to win the sea battle, they will have to either deploy where the others deployed or another safe location, or return to Istalia immediately. So far, Istalia has lost 3 ships totally, and it has been calculated that around 8.500 Istalian soldiers have died so far - although we cannot guess enemy losses. The battle seems to be very equal so far, but with a slight advantage towards Pontesi. Air superiority seems to be crucial for Istalia to win this battle and do any significant damage to Pontesi, especially if Pontesi has an underdeveloped anti-air system.
