Discontent in Pabeus prompts KRGC deployment.

KRGC Paratroopers prepare to deploy to assist government officials in Pabeus.

In the wake of attacks on Kafuri tax collectors in Pabeus, the King has ordered the deployment of the 3rd Airborne Brigade of the KRGC and the Ashker Border Security Battalion, based out of Kakzar. Over the past several years the situation in Pabeus has grown increasingly problematic according to the Supreme Security Council's own rare public reports. The King has tasked Brigadier General Adnan al-Mahmudi of leading the operation, an officer of the Kafuri Royal Guard Corps and Colonel Altan Bayraktar, the head of the Ashker Border Security Battalion, acting as his second in command. The focus will be collecting required taxes from a number of areas where Kasraj's control is tedious at best. In recent years, and despite attempts by the Society of the King and their allies, the Organization of Ahmadi Scholars has grown in popularity in Pabeus. This trend has worried many as Kafuristan has largely rendered radical Ahmadi groups such as the Ahmadi State in Majatra (ASIM) and Ahmadi State in Kafuristan (ASIK) ineffective in both recruitment and operations. A combined front of government-backed support and military intervention has forced these groups largely underground but the presence of OAS presents a serious political issue.

Regime watchers have cited the cautiousness in which the Majali family has handled the OAS has kept it from exploding, while others such as the leadership of the General Intelligence Directorate, wish to crush it outright. Sources close to the Majali family have stated that the "tolerance" of the OAS is done to prevent it exploding and leading to an outright crisis in Kafuristan and potentially the wider Ahmadi world.

Crisis in Pabeus: A Thorn in the King's Crown.
January, 5710.

Supporters of the Majatran Socialist Ba'ath Party - Kafuristan Region rally in the streets of a city in Pabeus, decrying the radical Ahmadi attacks on their communities.

As the crisis in Pabeus continues to grow, the leadership of Kafuristan seeks to minimize the risks to the other regions of Kafuristan. The Ministry of the Armed Forces has continued its rotation of forces within Pabeus, notably switching between the 3rd Airborne Brigade of the KRGC and the 1st and 2nd Kafuri Marine Brigades. These forces, which are permanently mobilized, have been engaged in a number of "policing actions" according the MAF and representatives from His Majesty, the King. The Ashker Border Security Guard Battalion, comprised of ethnic Ashker, has played a pivotal role in supporting these actions and has engaged in a series of engagements with the breakaway elements of the Pabeus region. What is believed to have started as a "tax revolt" has devolved into a series of short engagements over the past decade with members of the Ahmadi State in Majatra and the Ahmadi State in Kafuristan and several other groups. Sources within the General Intelligence Directorate have cited support from the Organization of Ahmadi Scholars and its leadership but the party which remains popular in Pabeus and has, according to the GID, been involved in the support for the ongoing insurgency in Pabeus as a whole.

Crisis in Pabeus: Rising Tide of Ahmadi Theocracy
May, 5721.
When the Organization of Ahmadi Scholars was founded, many believed it was a way for the Ahmadi Liberation Party to skirt restrictions. They were partially correct, several Kafuri-based leaders of the banned Ahmadi Liberation Party joined the organization but it became so much more. The OAS, commonly called Muah, has become a political force in rural Kafuristan especially in the often tribal areas of Pabeus. Over the course of the past decade the situation in Pabeus has been kept contained but there are growing fears within the General Intelligence Directorate and within the Kafuri government that the situation has grown out of control according to anonymous sources within the Kafuri government. Over the past decade the government has lost control of approximately 47% of the territory of central Pabeus, these areas are largely desert and mountainous regions which are difficult to develop and infrastructure is lacking and has been for centuries. These areas have been a hotbed for anti-government activity and over the course of Kafuri history, they have been the epicenter for movements such as the Ahmadi State in Majatra and its offshoots, and notably the Ahmadi Liberation Party and now the Organization for Ahmadi Scholars.
While the Organization of Ahmadi Scholars have condemned any such anti-government activity according to official press releases, they have worked themselves into the areas that have "broken away" from the main government in Kasraj and have provided leadership in these areas.

July 5724 | Kafuristan and Badara, with MOI, announce ASW plane deal.

Minister of the Armed Forces Khalid bin Anas al-Qusasayr announced that the Majatran Organization for Industrialization had agreed in principal to supply Badara with the MOI-72 through a foreign military sale. The MOI-72, produced now by the Majatran Aeronautics Group, is an integrated maritime patrol aircraft that combines maritime patrol capabilities with anti-submarine warfare capabilities to provide for greater abilities overall. The project was originally a joint venture between Istalia and Kafuristan and was produced by a number of vendors until the Majatran Aeronautics Group, now a partner with the MOI, solidified control over a number of smaller regional producers. The deal is for an unknown amount of aircraft worth several million dollars and is part of a wider campaign to bring Kafuristan and Badara closer, especially as talks have kicked off in Kasraj regarding the formalization of the Ahmadi Cooperation Council. A spokesman for the Ministry of the Armed Forces noted that it is likely in the near future the Kafuri and Badaran navies will conduct routine patrols in the Majatran Sea.

New expansion for Golden Crescent Bank and Khushal Bank, with Badara meetings continuing.
October, 5725

Bassam al-Hajabk (SoK), the Minister of Finance, announced that the Golden Crescent Bank and the Khushal Bank of the South have announced intentions to develop several new branches throughout Kafuristan. The two banks, both of which are classified as "Ahmadi banks", and have operated out of Kafuristan and the wider Ahmadi world for centuries, are expanding operations. The banks announced intention to open approximately 40 branches throughout the entire country. The development plan, which was proposed by the Minister of Finance and executives from the bank, is planned to occur over the next 5 years and focus first on more local developments over major urban areas. This move comes as the Kafuri government seeks to continue to modernize and digitize everyday Kafuri life and these banks, which generally have a favorable view by Kafuri's, are a major component in bringing localized banking to less urbanized areas of Kafuristan.

This move comes on the heels of a series of high-level meetings between Kafuri and Badaran officials expanding trade and economic ties. The Finance Minister, the Minister of Trade and Industry Muthanna al-Halayji as well as dozens of Kafuri business officials have been attending meetings throughout the past several weeks. It is likely in the incoming weeks that the governments in Bier Qassem and Kasraj will announce a new free trade agreement and cooperation in maritime security in the strait between Kafuristan and Badara, notably aimed at ensuring trade between the two nations is both free and fair.
