Egelion, Baeguk hold First Summit Following South-West Reunification

5715.6.7. - GONGMANGDO -

Royal Councilors of the Kingdom of Egelion Mondragon and Cascabel, were both warmly received at Jesu Palace to-day, offering their reassurance of Egelion's full diplomatic recognition and support to the Gongmangdo government in its fight against the threat of northern Communism.

As discussed at the summit, Egelion announced that it will continue to seek friendly and cooperative neighborly relations with the KGB. In regards to the ongoing reunification of the South and West governments under the rule of the southern Emperor in Gongmangdo, Egelion stated that it recognized the Baegukese Emperor's complete and legitimate claim to the governance of the entire Dan Peninsula - Egelion has consistently refused to recognize the Democratic People's Republic of Dranea, the socialist rival government situated in the north. Egelion will continue to operate its consulate in Seongtaek, albeit in a reduced capacity. The Seongtaek consulate was formerly a de facto embassy with a full staff dedicated to representing Egelian interests in former West Baeguk; it is believed that Egelion wants to de-emphasize the Seongtaek consulate now that West Baeguk conducts its' foreign relations exclusively through Gongmangdo.

The summit marks the highest-level diplomatic exchange between Altea and Gongmangdo in nearly a century, with Egelion largely snubbing and ignoring its increasingly isolationist weight of a neighbor. During the most dire post-war years Egelion furnished the southern government with considerable economic and military aid in an effort to dissuade the Communist north from conquering the south, yet relations were characterized by a marked chill as South Baeguk's western benefactors disapproved the authoritarianism in the KGB that had intensified in increasingly harsh measures. Frosty South Baegukese-Egelian relations were contrasted by the growth in strong trade and diplomatic relations between Egelion and the self-proclaimed Republic of Dankuk, the third power on the Dan Peninsula, centered in the west around the Seongtaek Metropolitan Area.

Though Egelion never formally recognized the Seongtaek Republic as a sovereign state as many chose to do, it forged a close working relationship with the fledgling democracy. A close business relationship was formed between Egelion and the Seongtaek elites, especially given the geographic proximity and shared commitments to liberal internationalism and democratic ideals. West Baeguk's reputation as the last bastion of Egelian-Baegukese diasporic culture helped to increase its' appeal to Altea as well.

Behind private doors, it is believed that Egelion largely favored the West due to its progressive liberal capitalist stances, seeing the South as archaic and needlessly reactionary in nature. Whilst nominally supportive of the southern Monarchy due to longstanding ties - and, perhaps, a desire to support fellow monarchs in an effort to quench any semblance of republicanism at home - Egelion regarded the debauchery, corruption, and class stratification of the southern rump regime with considerable ire as an unenviable model to avoid. The authoritarianism, reactionary politics, and court factionalism rife in Baeguk were seen as failures of a government that had experienced a marked fall from grace since the 5600s. Now that democratic norms have been largely restored under the new Emperor, himself educated in Egelion, analysts believe that Altea looks somewhat favorably upon the Gongmangdo government now, albeit with much work to be done.

Whereas the South and West once jockeyed for the favor of Egelion, now united under one government Egelion can concentrate its diplomatic project not on two rival governments, but one unified regime.

At a press release the Hongje Emperor reiterated that the Baegukese, too, sought to renew the once-close relationship between the two nations.

"Egelion and Baeguk remain close regional partners with shared commitments to the peace and prosperity of both of our peoples. The government of the KGB remains committed to the pursuance of equitable and harmonious relations as neighbors between ourselves and Egelion. Regardless of past complications, the KGB is grateful to the Egelian Kingdom for their reassurances in support of the KGB's full sovereignty and territorial integrity over the whole Dan Peninsula. Baeguk and Egelion will work together to build strong and warm cross-strait relations, to combat the northern threat of communism, and to maintain a spirit of mutual respect and friendship."

PM Ajin moves ahead with National Flower Name Change, Geunhwa to be rechristened Mugunghwa
The Western Whig Prime Minister's decision to formalize the renaming was met with opposition by the Southern Whig Caucus and Tories

Prime Minister Ajin Eungaram officially declared that the national flower, Hibiscus Draniacus, would be rechristened in the national laws as Mugunghwa (花窮無).  Previously, the national flower was known as Geunhwa (花槿).

PM Ajin cited the need to "install our national symbols with pride and spirit", noting that the new terminology emphasized the longevity of the Hibiscus flower. The Empire, long acclaimed as the "immortal state" due to the longevity and continuity of the Imperial House, is worthy of the new flower title, Western Whig Caucus members proclaimed.

The move was strongly opposed by the opposition Tory Faction (派舊勳), as well as some members of the Southern Whig Caucus (人南) of the Whig Party (派林士). Speaking in opposition, conservative voices protested the change as it violated the tradition of past centuries and disconnected the title of the flower from the history of its usage.

The far-left Hongik Faction (派益弘) has voiced their support for the change, continuing their incumbency as confidence-and-supply to the increasingly embattled Ajin government.

WPB Leadership Accused of Lack of Gender Diversity Following Party Congress
The WPB's 20-member Politburo will have an all-female membership for first time in 8 years
Author: Mike Rautch
December 15, 5721

The Worker's Party of Baeguk has elected its 10th Politburo and Presidium following the conclusion of the Party 10th Congress with a spectacular military parade this Monday. Of particular notice to international observers was the regression of gender equality and the lack of gender diversity in the upper echelons of North Baegukese Leadership. Of the 20 members of the Politburo, all are women, as are the 5 members of the Party Presidium, the supreme executive organ of the North Baegukese government. This is a regression in gender equality since the party congress of 5716, in which 3 Politburo members were male including former Agitprop Department director Yoon-Han Joeunil (일은좋 韓尹), who served as the sole male on the last Presidium.

The Party Congress met over the course of the week and continually asserted their unquestioning loyalty to Buyeo Bitnaeri's program of "New Socialism", which aims to move away from traditional fixtures of North Baegukese politics and modernize the nation. The embittered communist dictatorship's centrally planned economy has remained in a state of stagnation and reflux for years, prompting the new leader to increasingly liberalize markets and raise up a new class of "Money Masters" (Kyo: Donju, 主돈). It marks the first formal congress of the Buyeo Bitnaeri era and the fourth generation of North Baegukese leadership. The Congressional Resolution declared that:

We reassert the steel-like resilience of the Party in its commitment to the full realization and implementation of the brilliant Jarip Idea and the continuation of the glorious socialist worker's revolution that brought victory to the revolutionary masses under the tutelage and leadership of the Immortal President the Great Leader Buyeo Bitgaram. Cultivating the spirit of Socialism in the New Era of the fourth successor, Great Comrade Buyeo Bitnaeri, embracing the spirit of Mt. Sayeol, the whole Party and entire Nation resolutely defend to the death the new ideals and revelations of the New Socialism in destroying reactionism, promoting progressive policies forward, and defeating the enemies of the Minjung's progress and happiness. The Workers Party of Baeguk will work at Mallima-pace to bring to full fruition the new adapted program of Socialism in the New Era and to devote the nation's single-hearted unity to the hastening of the victory of the immortal science of Buyeo Bitgaramism-Buyeo Keunnaraism-Buyeo Byeolbadaism.

The Democratic People's Republic has only been ruled by the direct descendants of Buyeo Bitgaram, the founder of both the WPB and DPRB, since its' inception. Mrs. Buyeo, the fourth supreme ruler of the 73-year old hereditary dictatorship, succeeded her own mother 4 years ago but has already accrued political power and a significant cult of personality. The Supreme Leaders of North Baeguk, collectively referred to as the "Bloodline of Sayeol" (Mt. Sayeol being a holy mountain to the indigenous Kyo people), rule for life and possess great control over national politics.

North Baeguk is now the only sovereign Communist State in Terra to be ruled by an all-female Politburo, standing in stark contrast to the South. The National People's Congress, the DPRB's rubber stamp parliament, has a more favorable gender ratio of 76:24 of females:males, but this is still a supermajority of women.

International observers have noted a perceived decline in gender equality in the nation over the past decades, with the party congress seeming to confirm this trend. Generally, in North Baegukese society women are seen as the head of the household, on average earning more than their male counterparts and being significantly overrepresented in higher positions. Although the government officially promotes an ideological position of "post-Feminism" and "Feminism-Maleism", claiming that the socialist revolution in the country has achieved true equality and made gender politics irrelevant, de facto men are seen as incompetent, unrefined, and unable to handle greater tasks in the nation.

Emperor Blesses Faithful at Zarvosopol Cathedral Inauguration

5722.3.5. - ZARVSOPOL -

His Holiness, the Holy Gaoic Emperor, travelled this week to attend the inauguration of the new Zarvosopol Pistian Cathedral in Nadiya, where he was greeted by enthusiastic crowds of the Nadiyan faithful alongside secular Nadiyan citizenry looking on. The throng of worshippers who gathered to glimpse His Holiness were predominantly Nadiyans of diasporic Kyo descent, a population thought to encompass as much as 5% of that nation.

His Holiness prayed that Heaven, Ten (天), would bless the congregation and indeed the entirety of the peoples both Gaoic and Gentile in Nadiya, imparting his blessing to the people, to the investiture of the local Vicar, and kissing the Spirit Tablet of the Cathedral's Central Altar.

The Hongje Emperor attended in his capacity as the leader of the Holy Gaoic Empire, but he is also the Supreme Vicar of the Celestial City State, the King (Maripgan) of the Kingdom of Great Baeguk, and the Sovereign of Changtae Island. Embraced by those faithful to the Church and Tenism, He continued to inspire ecstasy in the people and diaspora across Terra.

It is believed that His Holiness will remain in Nadiya over the coming days to take part in diplomatic discussions regarding relations between the Empire and Nadiya.

Reclusive Communist State Launches a Propaganda Campaign to Combat "Devious" and "Reactionary" Grooming and Fashion, Insists Men shave their Beards and cut Topknots
Author: Dina Rheah
October 17, 5722

The Worker's Party of Baeguk has begun a new propaganda blitz demonizing traditional Kyo hairstyles and the presence of male facial hair. Starting April, all men in the Hermit Kingdom will be expected to be short-haired and clean-shaved in their official capacities as state servants. The iconic Kyo sangtu (투상) will be mandatorily cut off from every male head. In their place, the state will demand that men style their hair in short, "modern and socialist" forms as a replacement and act of cultural conformity to the Workers Party's vision of the new Baeguk.

Men who do not comply with the beard-and-topknot ordinance will take 20% reductions in state salaries and may be subject to probation, fines, and even detainment under the law. Given that the DPRB is a socialist command economy in which all people are officially state employees, the extreme sociocultural legal ramifications for a dissenting individual are obvious, not to mention the extralegal means by which the notorious secret police or other paramilitary organizations loyal to the party have been known to terrorize uncompliant civilians with.

The state has mandated, in place of the old styles, modern-looking "socialist" haircuts as popularized on the new State TV show "Let Us Cut Our Hair in Accordance with Socialist Civilization". "The two Devils of the Head", as the topknot and beard are being demonized as, have been totally removed from any depiction by authorities in state media. Of the new socialist haircuts, the most common of these styles for young men in the hermit kingdom are a sort of mid-long bowl cut, composed of relatively equilength bangs framing the head. The longer ones may cover the eyebrows and hide them, and different styles may be free standing or combed to one side or the other. More extravagant styles include artifically curled perm haircuts. For older gentlemen, the bangs of youth are done away with in favor of conservative slicked back hair, kept in place with the use of gels. Others may eschew products all together and buzz their hair into shortly cropped, spiky styles. Men will be expected to shave regularly, with an overabundance of facial hair being a new penalty in the amended civil code of the Democratic People's Republic.

The WPB officially proclaimed a crusade against all "signs of reaction in presentation" and has also banned the sporting of complex or extravagant hairstyles by women reminiscent of the court styles of the South. Nonetheless, despite the lip service given to the regulation of women's hair, the campaign disproportionately targets males. This much was evident in the press release given by the Party itself:

The devious and counterrevolutionary maintenance of reactionary and impractical, pathetic long hair by certain members of our society must be called out, scrutinized, and totally eliminated. For far too long the last vestiges of patriarchy, of oppression and feudal corruption have hidden themselves treacherously in the horrendous and unnerving forms of the topknot and the beard. The "two devils of the head" mar the appearances of the Kyo revolutionary masses and are incompatible with the revolutionary program of the Party. How can we allow such barbaric and outdated practices continue to exist in our glorious socialist motherland of the new era?

The New Socialist Male in the Era of the Jarip Idea is a rational and equal partner who presents himself cleanly, modestly, and modernly in the face of the whole nation and society in the period of socialist construction. We will pursue conceited efforts to whole-heartedly realize the modern socialist society free of feudal remnants and deviations such as the sangtu and beard.

Let every male rid himself wholeheartedly of spiritual, psychological, and ideological corruption and impurity! Let every man present a pure haircut and a clean chin! Let the glorious victory of the Jarip idea in the new era of Socialist Construction be revealed! Let the Two Devils of the Head be totally and completely eradicated! Let us groom ourselves in accordance with Socialist Civilization!

Analysts suspect that this further demonization of traditional culture serves as a convenient vehicle for the North Baegukese state to separate its national identity from the South, which has retained a monoculture of topknotted hair and the sporting of facial hair by mature males.

The hair campaign is just the most recent in modern campaigns under the fourth generation of WPB leadership to emphasize "socialist modernity" and to "combat reaction", undergoing a cultural revolution in hopes of removing the last remaining links of shared tradition between the North and South.

Anonymous sources within the DPRB report that average citizens feel oppressed and angry at the government's efforts to police their fashion and styles. Traditionally, long hair sported by both men and women has been a symbol of love and devotion for one's parents. This suppression by the Northern regime represents yet another weight on the backs of people who have to live under the Party.

Comrade Abenanka Ibraev awarded the Order of Freedom and Independence
Author: Han Bulgeunbyeol
5723.10.12 - JARIP 75

Respected Comrade Buyeo Bitnaeri, Chairwoman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Dranea and General Secretary of the Workers Party of Dranea, wrote thus:

"Inspiring the proletariat through high-minded and thorough revolutionary declaration of firm "People-Firstism" and "World-Alliance-of-Peace-and-Anti-Imperialism" in all acts of international diplomacy to the aid of the People is of central importance to the continuation and rejuvenation of the Dovanian Revolution."

The DPRD welcomed the arrival of comrade Abenanka Ibraev, President of the Revolutionary People's Republic of Utaristan, to a synchronized mass motorcade parade of cheering citizens. Comrade Ibraev was awarded the Order of Freedom and Independence First Class, one of the Republic's most glorious and prestigious honors and awards given to those comrades who promote the cause of Anti-Imperialism, true freedom, and national independence and self-determination across Terra. Awarding her in speech, Respected Comrade Buyeo Bitnaeri noted that the wholehearted efforts of the Utari people's revolutionary struggle in upholding the dual banners of national independence and socialism in constructing their country in the socialist scientific manner was deeply inspirational to the Dranean workers and peasants.

Economic cooperation and military collaboration between the RPRU and DPRD will accelerate following further talks ensuing after the state visit. It is clear that the unbreakable friendship will be fruitful between the two nations.

Cise and Taedo, together as one, will surely become the patriotic pole of the basis of the new rejuvenated fight against capitalist imperial dogism and the paper tigers of global finance and "Red" Xsampan capital.

BUYEO BITNAERI DEAD, END OF BUYEO DYNASTY?
Middle Aged Dictator Dies under Unknown Circumstances, Yuri Bitnara rises to become Interim Chairwoman
Author: Ima Fayghote
July 15, 5726

The Worker's Party of Baeguk appears to be in frantic damage control as it announced the sudden passing of former dictator Buyeo Bitnaeri. Notably, the late chairwoman left no direct heirs or descendants, although she did leave a surviving younger sister, Buyeo Bomsori, who serves as deputy WPD General Secretary.

North Baeguk watchers fear that this may be a period of uncertainty and crisis, even possibly leading to the formation of a power vacuum or civil war. However, due to the late Chairwoman's program of "Institutionalization", wherein the previously informal spoils system of autocratic government was reformed into a stable core of loyal apparatchiks and career politicians, there is far more decorum and party weight to mediate the crisis.

This likely means that, if left unchallenged by hardliner rivals, most notably Buyeo Bomsori, Acting Chairwoman Yuri may be able to consolidate power and quickly pursue her desired agenda. Yuri is seen as a reformist candidate and was chosen as Deputy Chairwoman under the previous administration as a compromise counterweight to her own hardliner agenda. It is unknown how much control or sway she will have over communist hardliners without her late boss' word and authority. The world waits in anticipation.

Yuri Bitnara elected Chairwoman and General Secretary of North Baeguk
Upset ouster of Buyeo Bomsori, former dictator's sister, from General Secretaryship raises fears of party instability and division
Author: Ima Fayghote
August 2, 5726

In an unprecedented breach of political history and authoritarian compliance, deputy General Secretary of the Workers Party of Dranea, Buyeo Bomsori, stood publicly against acting Chairwoman of the State Affairs Commission Yuri Bitnari in the WPD General Secretary election. This was an extraordinary turn of events, as communist protocol, based on the Leonidist concept of "Democratic Centralism", has always valued secrecy and unanimity among its members. In North Baegukese history, such a vote for such an important role as General Secretary, the de facto Head of Government of the republic, would have been privately deliberated on by the Politburo Standing Committee and then voted for unanimously by party delegates at the WPD Congress.

Instead, the last month has borne witness to a growing civil war within the WPD as Buyeo's communist hardliners have backed the first true opposition campaign in the nation's authoritarian history, depicting Yuri as weak on capitalism and the southern puppet regime. This may represent the breakdown of political norms in the republic following the sudden death of the main line of the Buyeo Dynasty, which has ruled North Baeguk with an iron fist for almost a century since the birth of the republic.

Despite her efforts to muster the political will for communist hardliners to retain control of the party they have dominated for nearly a century, it was ultimately the reformist and concilliary reunification advocate Yuri who won in an upset victory of 62% to 38%, defeating Buyeo handily. Yuri also sinched her formal appointment as Chairwoman of the State Affairs Commission, the de jure head of state and government of the DPRB, through a majority in the National People's Assembly.

Yuri Bitnari has secured a wide mandate as both head of the DPRB government and, crucially head of the Workers Party, while Buyeo Bomsori has been caught with her political pants down. The race is now on to see if Yuri can crush her political opposition and move along quick enough to implement her agenda, or if Buyeo can manage to stall and mount a dissident faction large enough to stifle the reforms.
