RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Nationalists turn to violence Paige seizes on weakness of State to declare "Republic of Kalistan"Bennots requests assistance Kaliburg, Ananto August 1, 4758 ![]() Premier Bennots condemns violence on Kalistani Mainland and issues a formal request for Intervention The capital city was rocked last week with four major explosions following a dramatic walk out of Nationalist Deputies who have long demanded more resolute action. Led by faction leader James Douglass Paige, the SP dissidents declared "We have had enough of the Government's dalliance on our issues. If we can not accomplish our goals in the Legislature, we will take to the streets." Paige and nearly 60 Socialist Deputies then walked out of the Assembly. Three days later, four major bombs were detonated in the Capital, destroying the old Newspaper's "Haritza"'s offices on 4th Street, as well as severely damaging the chambers of the Constitutional Court, a major bridge over the Davon downtown, and the facade on the front of the Kalsie. The Nationalist faction, referring to themselves and the Kalistani Socialist National Militia immediately took credit, and a manifesto penned by Paige himself was issued to the National Assembly declaring open rebellion against the "Complicit Enskal traitors" who constitute the Government. The bombings inaugurated three days of bloodshed where prominent local and District leaders had several attempts made on their lives. The Nationalists were able to murder the Brethrenist Mayor of Gendaris, and seriously injured the Governor of Suldanor's chief of staff. Reports of a new Nationalist Militia forming in Suldanor were later demonstrated to be false, and the alleged putschists were discovered to be a group of rowdy local men and women celebrating an engagement. But Paige has made it clear that more violence is to come unless the Current Government disbands immediately, and Nationalists are given control over Republican policy, and furthermore, Enskal is outlawed and the identity is suppressed. The National Government, for its part, sat paralyzed over the last week. But today, the newly inaugurated Premier Joaquin Bennots-Hernandez issued the following statement: "The security situation in Enskal Estatua/Kalistan has deteriorated, and the National Government will not be able to stand up security forces fast enough. We therefore, in coordination with the proposals of our emigre community in Eroncourt, request formal security assistance from the Royal Union of Lourenne. We believe that this assistence, in force, will allow us to both avoid deteriorating relations between our two nations at a time when Kalistan is weakest, and will allow us some breathing space to reorganize our own National security forces. It is our belief that Lourenne can provide security forces in such a strength as to both protect Kalistan as well as prevent further destruction of Kalistani and foreign property and life." The Premier mentioned that he believes that Lourenne will accept this offer as an alternative to war, which will most certainly be costly for Lourenne but devastating to an unprepared Kalistan. "We have been circulating diplomats in the Lourenne Court for more than a year, and more than a few of them have gained some confidence in the Lourennaise Government. We believe this solution to our problems will provide the best outcome, given the range of equally terrible options we face currently." A last minute chartered flight from Kaliburg to Lourenne carried staff from the Foreign Ministry as Kaliburg and the Mainland brace for another round of terror in the immediate term. He made the address to the Republic at 12pm local time, and his broadcast was made at KKRR headquarters in Kaliburg. Quote:"Friends, Comrades, Adiskideak: We address you in truly unprecedented times. Only one time in the last 2700 years of our nation's history has any inch of Kalistani National territory ever been occupied by a foreign power. Students of history will recall Ananto's invasion by Indrala/Yingdala 800 years ago. Today, we record the second moment in our Nation's history where this is the case. The Premier then left the studio and refrained from taking questions from reporters gathered at the studio. His aide asked reporters to refer for the time being to his statement on the radio. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 Quote:OOC: POSTDATED RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Kalistan Witnesses First year of Stability Premier lays out bold new agenda to rebuild Kalistan Kaliburg, Ananto August 12, 4759 ![]() Premier of the Republic Bennots declares new governmental initiatives The first year of Lourenne's security effort in Kalistan has brought peace and stability to the country. Terrorist attacks virtually ceased following the arrival and occupation of the nation by Lourennais security forces, while the Government of Kalistan has been at work following up on several stabilization measures intended to create the ground work for long lasting prosperity and peace in the region. As the One Year anniversary of Lourenne's arrival is about to be observed in Ananto, the Premier of the Nation issued an address over KKRR in the Capital to all Kalistani nationals. In the address, he acknowledged return of full civil liberties across the nation. Included within those liberties is the right to bear all arms as allowed by Republican law, as well as the formation of legitimate Party militias, who have begun coordinating training with select units of the Lourennaise Regular forces stationed across the Republic. The Premier has also called for Special elections which ratify Isabelle III Orleans-Vassar, who is the currently serving Queen of Lourenne as Titular Head of State for the duration. The move paves the way for a closer political association between the two nations, and a longer lasting diplomatic affinity between Kalistan and Lourenne. Premier Bennots also announced a couple very important economic initiatives before the National Assembly. He stated that the old National Foundry at Sulari and the National Shipworks at Kaliburg would be reopened with healthy Government subsidy. "We do not yet plan to fully nationalize these two major strategic assets," said Bennots, "though we expect a generous private contribution in the efforts which will be generously compensated when Nationalization of these strategic resources returns to Kalistan. Those investors who wish to make an investment with a guaranteed return should consider working with us, rather than expressing alarm about the effort, given that while public capital is in short supply due to liberal economic policies and a decade of neglect and decay, nationalization is ultimately a foregone conclusion." The Premier encouraged local and foreign technology firms to invest in these two industries, as well as in the petroleum and ferromineral sectors, to bring these targets of future nationalization into the modern era. The Premier also made moves to pave the way for a revitalized Kalsie. "At one point in the not too distant past, Kalistan was poised to be a hub of international finance. While we have lost the initial impulse, it is not too late to begin to attract foreign investment in Kalistan. We are hereby announcing an initial dispensation lasting for a period of 5 years for all foreign capital that invests within Kalistan. All corporations found a Kalistani branch of their corporation will be experience abatement of all domestic corporate and import and export tariffs for the period of the dispensation, and will find Kalistan a friendly climate for investment. Meanwhile, following the end of the dispensation, if those companies actually become Kalistani companies, headquartered in Kalistan they will be treated as domestic companies, and will be exempted from Majority Minority shareholder rules that our Government will eventually need to establish as we move toward nationalization of strategic resources. We welcome the input of all stakeholders as we move forward." Finally the Premier announced the dredging of the ancient port at Dulnerstaad, in Northwest Ananto. "This multi year project aims at the construction of a new naval base overlooking the Ananto Strait. It is our intention to request that the port be used to base future Kalistani fleets, moving them out of Kaliburg, and complimenting the bases on the Mainland, and also hosting foreign fleets. Bozo River Combined Air Ground and Naval Center will be repurposed to a Kalistani only base and resupply station, though the impact and maneuver areas will remain available for domestic/foreign combined exercises as may be available." The deepening of the port, which hasn't been used as a port facility of any note since the age of sail, will take four years, and meanwhile, construction of base facilities will begin in earnest next year, the first year where revenues will be restored to the National Government. In all, the Premier's speech was met with tepid praise from many moderates and Brethrenists, and somewhat more enthusiasm from his more stalwart supporters. One member of the Society of Brethrenism, Uxue Etxeberri, who intends to put her name forward for a seat in the coming special elections, said "The last thing the Premier should be doing is building weaponry and naval bases. I understand the need to put Enskal on a positive footing in terms of security, but I think that feeding people will work more wonders than shooting at them. The Nationalists themselves had the wrong vision for Kalistan too, and see how their warlike vision paid them out. I hope the Premier knows what he is doing, and I hope those around him hold him in the Light and offer him wise counsel." RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Ag Minister Boris Donaldson expresses interest in working with Yingdala and Keymon Agricultural development of Odufaray said to be on the top of his list Kaliburg, Ananto September 1, 4759 ![]() Agriculture Minister Boris Donaldson speaks before ARGUE representatives at National Conference At the First Annual conference of the All Republican Growers' Unions of Enskal (Kalistan), Agriculture Minister Boris Donaldson gave the keynote speech. In his discussion, he stressed Republican goals for recreating the National Food Bank, which not only guaranteed healthy food for all Kalistani citizens entirely free of cost, but also served for hundreds of years to underwrite the farm prices of the Republic, protecting this strategic resource from the wild swings of the business cycle which tends to more dramatically affect commodities with inelastic demand like food worse than other sectors. Minister Donaldson stated that the goal was to rebuild Kalistani agriculture from the ground up, replacing the extremely volatile model which led to rapidly decreasing prices and land consolidation under corporate farms that was ushered in with Liberal Government more than 100 years ago. "We've gotta do something to protect the farmer," Donaldson said, "and to guarantee food to the Citizen. There is a symbiotic relationship between the People and that sector which produces their food, and the Republic can play a large role in this." Many of the Farmers unions, who have taken a more liberal stance toward land ownership and farm prices than the Socialist Party has traditionally taken asked the Minister during the Conference questions like "Will you all be confiscating our lands?" and "How can you stabilize prices when many farmers themselves have an individual interest in cutting their neighbors' throats and underselling their product to ensure that they get something instead of letting it all rot?" The Agriculture minister, himself a lifelong member of the Suldanor Growers' Syndicate answered, "You have to weigh your probability here. When I was a farmer, some years I would make a lot, and some years I would make nothing. I more frequently made nothing, and even with the years I did well, I barely broke even. I discovered that after 20 years, all my profits were going to some bank to pay loans to cover what I had to take. I know some of you here: Your stories are similar. "What the Republican Government will be proposing is first and foremost, Individual and co-op holdings will be protected from Corporations. You will be able to afford to operate your farm without worry about some corporation buying your loans and forcing you off your lands. Secondly, we want to institute price stability through the elimination of competition. What we are thinking of is one large co-op, a single buyer of your product. Everyone will receive the same thing. You won't have to make all your own deals anymore. You will sell to a single buyer, who will guarantee that your receive a fair price, above market for your production. That single buyer will handle the distribution of your product. You just have it ready when we show up, and we will take it off your hands, cash on the barrel. "Most importantly, it is true: Some of you won't be able to get really rich one year at the expense of your neighbors. But with the Republican plan, you forgo the highs AND the lows. I know some of you went hungry during the glut a few years back. You remember that. How can you forget it, right? When you couldn't sell your crops at any price, because there was simply too much and nobody was buying. Surrounded by food and many of you had to watch a whole season's worth of work go up in flames. With the Republic as the single buyer, that's over. Guaranteed." The Agriculture Minister discussed plans with various Growing Syndicates to begin conversion to crops preferred by ODEN. "We are including hemp under that rubric. The Dahriel Syndicate is already stepping up hemp and cannabis production this year, but we will need much more in that way, along with coca, rye, and more specialized crops. Current drug policy favors naturally grown crops, and consumers, both domestic and foreign, are already expressing interest in these cash crops." One major initiative the Ag Minister also mentioned was potential partnerships with Yingdala and Keymon to introduce new crops into Kalistan's more marginal growing regions. "We still have good quality infrastructure in Suldanor, and most of that has been oriented toward industrial production. Why not use a lot of that marginal land, which couldn't support traditional cereal production, or wine, to move Suldanor's ag sector away from a sugar monoculture, and start producing things like Pineapples, rubber, bananas, rice, and other tropical fruits and vegetables? Keymon has already expressed some interest in working with our government to bring pineapple to Kalistan, and Yingdala has also expressed great interest in assisting in development as well. I would like to see agricultural counterparts from those countries as well as others visit Kalistan to expand our vital sector." When all was said and done, the Minister left a favorable impression on delegates to the Conference, even some of the more hardened liberal ones, who were particularly impressed by the notion of price supports and protection against consolidation. The All Republican Growers' Unions of Enskal represents more than 20 local syndicates and Co-ops, as well as more than 1,000 independent farmers in Kalistan, and was formed two years ago by a union between the very influential Dahriel Growers' Syndicate and the Springfield General Co-op in Odufaray. Other unions soon joined and At-Large membership was opened to individual farmers last year. The Government has not yet advanced a plan for the New Food Bank, and the Ag Minister was at the conference to gain input from the ARGUE. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 Quote:The National Press is a national newspaper that focuses on Lourennais politics, foreign affairs, and local news RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 Quote:Yingdalan Government Considers Investing in Kalistan as Relations with Old Friends Improve RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Agricultural Development plows ahead in Kalistan Foreign Direct Investment in Suldanor and Odufaray signal boom for new crops in Kalistan Kaliburg, Ananto August 3, 4760 ![]() Suldanor farmers work with Keymonese technical experts from Keymon Fruit in first Suldanor Pineapple plantation The Minister of Agriculture, Boris Donaldson, recently concluded two important trade deals with Yingdala and Keymon in an aim to develop the agriculture position of the Republic's southern most district, as well as to expand crop diversity in Odufaray. Suldanor, known for its industrial and technological base, has also been shunned by traditional Agricultural interests, given its tropical climate, and generally marginal land quality. However, two important initiatives, alongside continuing Lourennaise investment, has brought what was once considered land unsuitable for growing crops traditional to Kalistan under cultivation for the first time. "As we diversify our agricultural base," said Agriculture Minister Donaldson, "We put ourselves in a better position to provide a more stable and enriched diet for millions of Kalistanis. Suldanor has long been known for its sugar base monoculture, and that has contributed to the long standing treacle and rum industries in the region, and none of this development will supplant any of this. However, as we begin to consider transitioning back to the Food Bank and National Service Programs, creating a more nutritious diet for Kalistanis is a key motivation behind these developments." A return to the Free Food program through the Food Bank thus signaled, the Ag Minister was on hand to oversee the clearing of several hundred acres of scrub and brush for the planting of the first Keyomnese pineapple trees. Keymon Fruits was offered a special dispensation to develop the land and the crop, and has been offered a guaranteed market in Kalistan to meet Kalistani demand, and then rights to export all surplus without royalties. Yingalan food interests have also begun to develop new croplands in Suldanor under similar terms, and the plans for the joint partnership between the two Anantonese Nations aim at introducing new cereals which are not typically grown in such as rice, tarrow, yam and bamboo as well as planning on the development of several tracts of wasteland along the Yoshimi River for palm oil and rubber production. These crops, unknown in Kalistan will greatly add to both the nutritional needs, as well as serve as important new sources of food additives and industrial materials. Kalistan plans on requesting starts and technical expertise to introduce citrus in the coming years. Finally, Lourenne is continuing its year long development of "agricultural tourism" through many of Odufaray's and Ananto's coffee producing uplands. A little known secret about Kalistan is that, along with most other drugs, Kalistan produces excellent qualities of coffee and cocoa, and though these crops are often eclipsed by agriculture in the lowerlands, and are reserved almost exclusively for domestic use, agricultural tourists will have, for the first time, the opportunity to enjoy these mild stimulants that millions of Kalistani citizens take for granted on a daily basis. Tours of the coffee and cocoa producing lands in Kalistan are being organized by Lourennaise Basque International and their subsidiary companies, and several independent coffee farmers are intending to turn their plantations into show farms, complete with a bed and breakfast experience. Kalistan is poised to break out in the Agricultural sector, and will benefit from the enthusiasm of its neighbors in helping it develop. As the National Government mulls the topic of creating a single buyer system for agricultural production, a strong agricultural base will prove fundamental for Kalistani success. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Kalistani Brethrenists Depart for Telamon Aim to restore ancient Brethrenist Community in the far north Kaliburg, Ananto August 7, 4760 ![]() Leaders of 5 new founded Monthly Meetings of the New Branch Brethrenists prepare to emigrate to Telamon In an important agreement concluded between the All-Terra Confrerence of Brethrenism, also known as the New Branch, which is centered in Kalistan, and the Government of Telamon, a sizeable group of Kalistani Brethren have agreed to emigrate from Kalistan/Enskal Estatua to Telamon. The organization to which these Brethren belong is known as the Brethrenist Emigration Society. In order to be eligible for membership in the Society, Brethren must be able to support themselves without any assistence from any Government anywhere, may be either birthrite or convinced Brethren, but must go through a clearance with their meeting, and must be officially sent by their respective meetings. Of those who expressed interest, more than 3,000 Kalistanis from all vocational backgrounds met the criteria. The BES began meeting together in all five districts under a parallel Quarterly Meeting system officially sanctioned by a minute from the Annual Meeting. A requirement was imposed which required the Brethren who hoped to take part in the expedition to live together in community for a year. Any Brother or Sister was free to leave and return to their own monthly meetings. The aim was to ensure that participants understood that when they arrive to Telamon, they will be complete foreigners, and while they will be expected to integrate as much as possible into Telamon society and put aside their Kalistani identity, they will still need to be able to rely upon each other solely during the initial time directly after their arrival. After a year, the more than 3000 applicants were whittled down to just under 1500. All Brethren were cleared to depart by their Meetings, each of whom offered them traveling letters to any Brethren meetings they would find in Telamon, just in case. The Brethren emigres then said farewell to the members of their family who were remaining in Kalistan, and boarded several chartered aircraft bound for Telamon. Their personal belongings would follow in a Cargo ship dispatched from Port Davon several days prior and would be there waiting for them when they arrived. The Brethren made it safely to Telamon, where they were greeted warmly by Telamonese representatives who delivered statements welcoming the Kalistanis, and thanking Kalistan for allowing the departure of these Brethren, who will add to the diversity of the Telamonese population. All reports demonstrate that the Brethren who arrived in Telamon have been settled for more than a month now, and are beginning to adapt their daily routines to the new reality they have chosen to accept. There is no official word on nationalization, and as each Brethren has surrendered their Kalistani passports, they are listed officially as stateless. But Brethren being Brethren, the monthly meetings developed two general Quarterly Meeting, and one Annual meeting called the "Telamonese Yearly Meeting for Worship and the Consideration of the Business of the Brethren in Telamon", or more simply the Telamon Yearly Meeting. Monthly meetings have begun attracting new members as well: It is reported that the Brethren in Telamon now just about 1600. Telamon was chosen specifically because it was the site of a Brethrenist Republic for a few years in the 42nd Century. The Brethrenist Republic aimed at orienting National Policy toward the tenets of Brethrenism. While the goal of this emigration is not to advance political Brethrenism, but to instead to seed Brethrenism in Terra, it is hoped that Telamon will embrace Brethrenism, and permit it to become a more widely practiced faith. The Government of Kalistan has agreed to keep diplomatic tabs on the emigres, and the Brethren will continue to receive institutional and religious support from the ATC. |
