Tsargrad - Its been several weeks since the new Lazarescu government took office. A government of purely SRS ministers supported by the Social Liberals with only one goal in mind: a new beginning. Lazarescu made it clear during his campaign that Deltaria is not just a conservative country rooted in traditions, but also a social country that needed its social fabric to be restored. Two years of intense neo-liberal policies, reforms that broke down social security and got lower income Deltarians in trouble propelled Lazarescu to power, but also gave him a responsibility to rebuild what had been lost. A intense dillema, as Lazarescu is forced to balance between rebuilding Deltaria's social institutions while at the same time keeping the strong economy stable. 

With this challenge in mind, the Prime Minister presented his plan for "Social Security 2.0" last night during a specially convened press conference. With his Imperial Treasurer Antonio Jakšić on his right and Minister of Social Affairs Balázs Nóra on his left, he presented a bold plan that would mean a significant change in approaching social security. Under the 300 page document, which is meant as a source document for ministries and lawmakers to work with, Deltaria would no longer focus on specific programs for specific issues but instead work towards a integral "root cause" solution to many social issues. Suprisingly, the plan would further abolish the few social securities still in place, allowing the government to "start from scratch." The most ambitious plan is most likely the plan for a universial basic income. At its core the universal base income, modest but guaranteed, is designed to keep everyone above the poverty line and get rid of unnecessary bureaucratic programs. "Cutting out the middle man" is what Lazarescu called the idea. With the UBI in place, Deltarians could be given the help needed to succeed and no longer fall into the bureaucratic trap that was an issue in the past. 

While a UBI is the most significant step, additional support is likely needed for the most vulnerable. Under Social Security 2.0, the government makes available clear and concise subsidies for Housing, Childcare, Education or retraining and Healthcare and disability support. Instead of static programs that are made to serve everyone equally, these subsidies would be personalized, changing with people's personal conditions and life's. People do no longer need to apply for these subsidies as the government would simply assign them to citizens based on their annual tax returns. A subsidy also doesnt automatically dissapear when a person starts earning more, instead simply being gradually fased out as income grows and, in case income gets a hit again, it may also automatically increase again. 

Essential for this subsidy system to work is trust. Minister Nóra was clear: Deltarians need to trust their government again. The only way to achieve this is by giving them the government's trust. No longer will sanctions be placed on people that do not look for a job or have received the subsidies for a extended period of time. Instead, under Social Security 2.0, those receiving the subsidies would be encouraged to gradually improve, with the "dynamic" system following their individual life paths. 

Honestly, we see it as a new social contract with the people. We ensure that all may receive a basic income to meet their basic needs, to give them support when they need it according to the data. We dont expect anything in return, instead it will be the governments responsibility to provide enough opportunity and development so that moving away from state support becomes both lucrative and rewarding

Said Prime Minister Lazarescu. To that end, Social Security 2.0 also commits his government to lowering income taxes, improving the job market, stimulate the business climate and provide opportunity for new sectors to grow. In this way, it isnt just a agenda to rebuild social security but a broader agenda meant to rethink social and economic policy in Deltaria. KDU parliamentary leader and temporary party leader Ivan Nuskern condemned the policy platform outright, calling it "a blatant handout." Business leaders throughout the country are also sceptical, fearing a worsening business climate if these costly plans are enacted. 

Imperial Treasurer Jakšić announced that if fully implemented, Social Security 2.0 would cost the state a initial 100 billion to implement, with estimates on annual costs hovering between 120 billion to 180 billion. Tsargrad - Minister of Economic Development Andrija Magzan has signed a ministerial initiative to significantly reform the partially state-owned "Deltarian Airways". Air travel was largely neglected for the last few decades, with Deltarian Airways left for dead and reduced to a shadow of its former self. The company is now considered to be one of the smallest airlines on the continent, only offering regional flights to major country's like Istalia and Zardugal. But the Lazarescu government sees Deltarian Airways and air travel in general as a important tool to further Deltaria's importance in the region. 

By reinforcing and expanding Deltarian Airways the country could boost tourism, business and seek a position as a logistical hub for the region. Strategically located in the middle of the Majatran continent, a reinvigorated state airline capable of serving a large variety of international and regional flights, in addition to cargo flights, could significantly boost Deltaria's position as a center for trade. As mentioned the already flourishing tourism could further benefit from DA's expansion, with tourists able to use DA as a easy and cheap method of transportation to the country. 

Besides the obvious economic benefits to a revitalized national airline it would also improve Deltaria's strategic position. A stronger carrier could  be aligned with foreign policy interests - for example, opening flights to strengthen ties with partner countries or emerging markets. In crises (war, natural disasters, pandemics), a stronger national airline can provide strategic airlift capacity. It would also serve for  defense logistics or humanitarian operations when private airlines might not.

With this in mind, the Ministry will invest a total of 25 billion in the coming years to purchase new aircraft, improve ground infrastructure, expand the organization and add new international and regional flights to the DA's roster. To make sure these investments are fully spend on developing the airline, the state will expand its share in DA from 49% now to 55%, costing a estimated 3 billion DTE. The expansion puts most shares in government hands, allowing the government to further steer its policies and priorities. Management is to be overhauled, with a new CEO to be appointed and the entire Board of Directors to be replaced with professionals from other (private) airlines in the industry. This move should help in professionalizing the airline. 

Minister Magzan noted that with these changes, Deltaria will once again prioritize a functioning and proud national airline that can serve Deltarians and others in the region without issue. The ministry expects ticket prices to remain steady, as a majority of investments is made by the government directly and should not directly affect DA finances.

Tsargrad - Prime Minister Lazarescu isnt just transforming the country through government policy, but is also focussed on his own political party. Last night the SRS was formally merged into the new SSD (Socijalistička Stranka Deltarije) after Lazarescu and his close confidants had worked several months to eliminate oppossition to the move. Lazarescu was the first SRS leader to win an election and did so by creating a unique coalition of workers and young people. He had, even during the campaign, criticized his own party for "standing on the sidelines" for a decade and for not being in touch with the people's issues. The SRS (Social Democratic Labour Party) consisted of a national committee dominated by what analysts sometimes called "the old men's club". Old left-wing populists and staunch socialists that had elected one of themselves to positions of leadership and seemed to care more about protesting then seeking a position in government. 

When Lazarescu came in as an outsider through fierce membership oppossition to the national committee he started the process of limiting the power of the committee and granting more power to party members. After his election win, he gained the political capital to make his move. In the last few months, all power within the national committee went to Lazarescu allies and those in the old guard oppossed to his more moderate, "ligh populist" tone were sidelined. Last week, a press release issued by the party confirmed what had been long in the making: the SRS would transform into the new Socialist Party of Deltaria, with a new party platform focussed primarily around social democracy and a Pro-SOMECO stance. 

Last night the change became reality, with the party holding its first congress and voting to dissolve the SRS. The new party is led by a Federal Committee, fully elected by the membership. Members also voted to keep Lazarescu as party leader of the new SSD, allowing him to stay on as Prime Minister. While this move finally grants Lazarescu and his allies a party more detached from old power structures within the left, it has also caused some tension within the parliamentary faction of the former SRS. While a vast majority of Deputies voted to join the new party (139 deputies), a small minority decided to move away from the party, resulting in the SSD losing 6 seats. This does not endanger their majority, with the Social Liberals still supplying 20 votes and thus securing a parliamentary majority. The 6, now independent, deputies have yet to reveal their plans but one of them, Zvonko Mauser, is known for being a far-left politician within the former SRS. If given the chance, it would not be unthinkable that Mauser and his fellow deputies would move to form their own party, feeling that the new SSD has moved to much to the center and does not represent the left-wing populist wing of the former SRS. 

Prime Minister Lazarescu celebrated the new party, calling it "a good foundation for our work to continue without potential ressistance from elements alergic to change."

Branovice - As Badara ascends as the freshest member in SOMECO the southern nations of Majatra are about to meet in the port city of Branovice for what will become one of the most monumental summits of the organization to date. This proposal would grant the SOMAC (South Majatran Commission) to draft such sanctions, with a unanimous vote in the SOMEC (South Majatran Economic Council) required for sanctions to take effect. 

Branovice will host delegations from all member states to discuss these proposals, with all attending seeking to further strengthen SOMECO as a trade bloc and improve its standing as a stable regional economic bloc. At the end of the session, a vote will be held within the SOMEC which could result in the proposals being accepted or rejected. Branovice - Using its new authority under the Common Sanctions Framework, the South Majatran Commission announced that immediate sanctions are placed on Selucia and a wide variety of individuals within its political and business elites. President of the South Majatran Commission Nero Reppucci announced that a set of economic and financial sanctions are to be placed on Selucia, which include bans on goods that may be used for torture, imprisonment, oppression and surveilance. Additionally, the export or import of fossil fuels and rare earth minerals from and to Selucia are also banned, basically cutting off the import of Badaran and Kafuri oil to Selucia. 

Besides the economic sanctions aimed at restricting the Selucian economy and preventing further expansion of its "oppressive regime" a wide variety of financial sanction are also put in place, freezing the assets of high ranking Selucian officials within member states, enforcing a travel ban that restricts their travel to SOMECO member states and preventing anyone operating within SOMECO territory from performing transactions that could "benefit the entity or individual sanctioned." Lastly, severe limits have been placed on the Selucian banking system, preventing financial institutions from doing business with member state institutions or operate within their territory. 

The South Majatran Economic Council is expected to convene in the next few hours to formally enact the sanction package, but under the new CSF sanctions are immediately in place once the Commission decides to do so, only being revoked when it doesnt pass the South Majatran Economic Council or expires the standard two year enforcement date. President Reppucci calls these steps "necessary and unprecedented as Selucia continues to defy international norms and human rights, refusing to listen to both its populace and its international partners." This is the first time that SOMECO uses its recently enacted Common Sanctions Framework (CSF), a measure meant to unify sanction regimes of its member states in order for such sanctions to be more effective. 

Prime Minister Lazarescu welcomed the move by the commission, announcing that Deltaria will vote in favor of keeping them in place in the upcoming council session. Lazarescu further warned that if Selucia would not halt its "inhumane activities against the Yeudi people" then Deltaria would "not back down" and contemplate "more direct action." 

We cannot and we will not stand by as a entire demographic is being threatened. Deltaria will work with its regional partners in trying to force the Selucian regime in changing its policies. If it does not do so after SOMECO and international pressure, then it will force its immediate neighbours to respond with more force. Gemun - Deltarian chemical producer Alchimex has announced that it has reached a prelimenary agreement with the Bianjie Khanate for the construction and operation of a polymer production plant as well as a new research plant that will likely serve as the primary facility for Alchimex research once constructed. The deal will see Alchimex invest nearly 4 billion in localities surrounding the two facilities, allowing local Bianjie authorities to reap the benefits of these developments. Additionally, Alchimex is set to pay millions in taxes to the Khanate government once operation starts and will be obligated to personally monitor local ecosystems and keep them intact. In return, the company can construct and operate the two facilities and enjoy the relatively small amount of state regulations within Bianjie. 

Alchimex CEO Szűts Pál was visibly relieved during the press conference in Balgrad, where the company announced the deal. Alchimex is the largest chemical producer in the country, but has faced increased regulatory challenges in recent years as SOMECO and domestic regulations put pressure on its activities within Deltaria. In order to keep the company profitable and expanding, a move abroad was necessary. Pál ensured reporters that this move is simply expanding the company its footprint, not removing it from Deltaria alltogether. 

Bianjie's Premier Heshen Asuke was questioned on the deal as well later in the day while on a work visit in Gemun. Bianjie citizens are seemingly worried over the environmental impact of Alchimex operations in the country. Asuke assured reporters that the deal includes extensive provisions on self-oversight of the Alchimex facilities, and that the company will invest in local areas to ensure living standards remain stable or may even increase as a result of their entry into the country. 

The new research facility will allow Alchimex to step up its research for new formulas and chemical compounds, allowing it to stay ahead of the competition and produce more products in due time. The polymer production facility is meant to further expand its polymer production, allowing it to produce more plastic product and packaging, a sector that has skyrocketted in the last few years and make up a large portion of Alchimex its revenue.

The wedding cements a relationship between two nations that, in recent times, rarely saw eye to eye. Under the marriage, any children resulting from it will be born into the House of Živanović-Antić, the royal house of his Imperial Majesty. Through this agreement the Emperor hopes to secure his succession, as the rule of his house is almost guarenteed to continue if a child is born out of his marriage with Infanta Carlota.

Tsargrad - Prime Minister Lazarescu is rarely seen in a mood that can be described as unworthy of a statesman of his stature. Last night however, he went wild like only a pack of wolves would when encountering fresh prey. In a first for the Deltarian (centre)left, the Socialist Party of Deltaria managed to capture an outright majority of seats, expanding their 139 seats in the chamber of deputies to a astounding 170, a net gain of 31 seats. Their main rival, the hosian democratic and conservative KDU, suffered their largest electoral defeat since their return, winning only 74 seats, a smaller amount then even Savez! won just six years ago. 

KDU leader, old aristocrat Karlo Labas, conceded defeat and announced his resignation as party leader, calling the result "a bitter pill to swallow" and recognizing that "my message did not resonate with ordinary Deltarians." Political commentators seem to unanimously agree that the campaign of Prime Minister Lazarescu and his SSD was nearly masterfull, with the youthfull Lazarescu plastered on all social media and his newly created party apparatus organizing a highly efficient ground game in key constituencies. This was in contrast to the KDU campaign, which was (just like the party) conservative in nature. KDU leader Labas himself is a party hardliner and a old guard member, often coming accross as stiff and out of touch. The KDU membership lacked enthusiasm for their own candidate and its party organization has been in shambles after the departure of former PM Horvat. 

The SSD further benefitted from a economy that is on the rebound as SOMECO opens up new economic opportunity and consumer spending is on the rise. Several proposals from the Social Security 2.0 scheme have also been introduced, including the universal basic income proposals, giving ordinary Deltarians more money in their pockets and boosting both consumer spending and government popularity. The rising state debt and increase in inflation seemingly had no effect on voters. 

Last year, the six former SRS lawmakers that left the SSD after it was created moved to create their own party. Communist and left-wing populist in nature, this new "Revolutionary Communist Party" sought to unite disenfranchised left-wing voters seeking a move away from the more centrist approach of Lazarescu. The new party proved to be a succes in this election, becoming the first new party to win representation in the chamber in over two elections and capturing a total of 14 seats, a increase of 8 compared to their current membership in the lower house. The party especially scored well in industrial areas within Tsargrad and Hradnice, defeating the SSD in key constituencies their. The SSD compensated elsewhere however, capturing seats from the Greens and KDU as well as Savez!, with the liberal party falling back to just 25 seats. 

Lazarescu thanked supporters in a crowded Dubravko Bralić Arena in Tsargrad. While mainly promising to continue SOMECO intergration and the governments social reforms, Lazarescu also made a point this campaign around democratic renewal. "If elected, i will push for a congressional committee to investigate and report on potential reforms to our democracy. We seek greater representation in the Senate and further reform to strengthen the Chamber. Only through periodic review we shall keep our democracy vibrant." If he succeeds, it would be the first time since the reintroduction of democracy that legislation regarding the organization of congress is enacted.

Hadjoheims - In the north eastern province of Doraki a newly revitalized sector is gaining ground. Just two years ago the Lazarescu government announced a scheme introducing the "Hadjoheims Special Development Zone" or HSDZ. Under the scheme, the entire city of Hadjoheims was to be marked as a zone with less regulations and a exemption from general taxation. Additionally, companies settling in the zone could receive billions in state funding collectively as long as they could prove their contributions to the ultimate goal: expanding and improving Deltaria's technology sector. 

Traditionally the Deltarian economy has leaned on the manufacturing industry and finance to carry its economy. As SOMECO integration continued, Minister of Economic Development Andrea Aleksić pitched her plan for diversifying the Deltarian economy. One major way of doing so was a pivot towards technology, a sector long neglected by consecutive Deltarian governments. The HSDZ would give the government its playground, now it just needed some entrepeneurs to actually start playing. 

A wide variety of smaller technology startups started to settle in Hadjoheims, specifically its coastal area where companies could make use of better infrastructure and cheap water for their data centers to use. Just one year in, as more companies poured in and the area changed dramatically, Hadjoheims its mayor Athanagild announced that the strip most densely developed would be renamed into "Cerium Boulevard" after a rare-earth material. One of these new companies settling on the Boulevard quickly made a name for itself, the non-profit Algoritam. 

Founded by Daralian native Denis Mirković, Algoritam moved to Hadjoheims during a period in which the company was on the verge of bancruptcy. The special development zone allowed Mirković a fresh start, away from the regulatory spider web he had found himself in previously. The company specializes in Artificial Intelligence, with Denis his dream being the further development of the technology to the betterment of mankind. Despite countless offers to sell his company, Denis refused as he was determined to continue the non-profit nature of the organization. After entering the Cerium Boulevard in one of the smallest properties around, Denis and his team started working around the clock to finalize a product that they would use as a jumping board for future development. Taking inspiration from companies like the Istalian VerTech, they worked on their first program named Linguera. 

Linguera would, according to Denis, be a conversational AI system designed to deliver human-like interactions across support, sales, and internal operations of companies and government agencies in Deltaria. It learns from every interaction, adapting tone, context, and domain expertise to provide accurate, personalized responses. With this system, Algoritam could then use its data to further advance their R&D, hopefully producing more AI-products aimed at making society more efficient. After a full year of near day and night work, fueled by state subsidies and a near free hand from regulation, Algoritam released Linguera 0.1 earlier this year with the aim of working towards a 1.0 version gradually. Within just two months, the program was in wide use throughout the private sector as companies started using Linguera to run their first layer of customer service and help in internal audits of company processes. 

From 800.000 DTE in debt just two years ago, the non-profit of Mirković has now been estimated at a worth of nearly 1 billion, quickly becoming one of Deltaria's most valued technology organizations. Just a week ago, fueled by the massive hype surrounding the program, the Ministry of Information announced that it reached a deal with Algoritam to introduce Linguera 0.2 as a AI information tool on its different websites upon the applications release, introducing AI to the Deltarian government for the first time. 

Algoritam is the most succesfull story of the Deltarian experiment in technology, but more smaller to medium sized technology businesses are benefitting from the Hadjoheims Special Development Zone. Prime Minister Lazarescu has so far praised the initiative, citing that despite the benefit of regulation initiatives like the HSDZ are necessary to diversify the Deltarian economy and drive innovation, with further intergration and cooperation within SOMECO to improve the ability for these new industries to expand beyond Deltarian borders as well.
