Hutorian Government Declines Request; "Not our decision".
In a short statement, sent to the Yeudi Embassy, the government of Prime Minister Karen Holten has declined the request of the return of the 3 Gems the Yeudis claims belong to them.
In the statement the government noted. "The Blood Ruby, Hulvanek Diamond and Xsampian Emerald are the personal property of the Hutorian Royal Family. Only the Sovereign may grant such a request."
The timing of the request has been made immensely complicated by the death of Queen Arianna I. King William XVII is still a minor and although Crowned King, is still in a Regency period. The Privy Council, the Sovereign's council of principal advisors, have yet to announce the name of a Regent that could make that decision. Rosalyn Woodbury, the Principal Secretary to the Sovereign, and Chair of the Privy Council, refused comment on how quickly a Regent would be appointed.

Election of Prime Minister James Woodbury ends 25 years of Liberal Party dominance.
The period of Hutorian political dominance by the Liberal Party of Hutori has come to it's end with the election of Prime Minister James Woodbury and his Conservative Party, who won 185 seats in the 345 Seat House of Commons, and a dominant 40 seats in the 72 member Senate, being the first Hutorian politician since his great grandmother, Rosalyn Woodbury valmost a century ago to earn such a resounding majority mandate in both chambers.
Prime Minister Woodbury met with His Majesty, King William XVII, at Newport Castle, where the new Prime Minister and his Cabinet was sworn in.
Prime Minister Woodbury has promised for increased international engagement, reinvigorating the sputtering Hutorian economy and to "finally settle the Gem Question" referring to Amudin's long running request for the return of the three Gems that Hutori has kept. The red Diaspora Gem, also known as the Hutorian Blood Ruby, has become a center piece of the Hutorian Crown Jewels, while Hutori's other two gems, the Hulvanek Diamond and Meleh's Gem, were both given to Hutori by Kalistan and Xsampa respectfully.
The new Hutorian Prime Minister refused comment on his first international trip, but it's widely expected he'll make the expected trips to Haldor, Aikums, Kaliburg and Fort William, to visit Hutori's historical allies and partners in Dorvik, Dolgava, Kalistan and Luthori respectfully, though Prime Minister Woodbury stressed that "his first priority needed to be Hutori."

Prime Minister Woodbury Welcomes home King William XVII
After over twenty years, the King has returned to Hutori, ending what was viewed as the longest Regency period for Hutori. Prime Minister James Woodbury was on hand to personally welcome the King back from Kaliburg at Joint Forces Base Jameson outside of Bekenial where the King's personal aircraft arrived.
The Kingdom of Hutori has been under a state of regency since the 5693 and the death of Queen Arianna, King William XVII's grandmother. He was taken in by the Kalistan Royal Family and raised in Kalistan during his minority years, while the regency of the realm was given to his grandfather, the Duke of Newport, Lord David Alvarez-Ananto. Even after the King turned 18 and could have returned home, the Regency was continued, as King William XVII was performing National Service in his adopted home. While the King returned for official functions, such as the opening of Parliament, major holiday and swearing in Governments, the Regency was de-facto extended until earlier this month with the passing of Lord David.
The Kalistani Royal Family has been invited for the state funeral, while Lord David will be buried at St. Michael's Cathedral. The return of the King William XVII is at a unique time for the royal family. King William XVII is now 37 and remained unmarried throughout his time in Kalistan and is expected by the Privy Council and the rest of the royal family, including his younger sister, to marry relatively soon. Steuart House has thus far refused comment.
Hutorian Government Opens Economy to International Bids
The stagnancy of the Hutorian economy has sparked an interesting reaction from the Hutorian government to open up bids on a number of government contracts to international companies, hoping to foster international investment in Hutori at a time when it has almost exclusively relied on internal companies. While many market analysts view this as a negative, as the Hutorian government should be focusing on Hutori first and foremost, International Trade Minister Laura Clyne disagreed.
"The reason our economy and our services have been stagnant is because we've done the same thing over and over again. By inviting international bids on energy, infrastructure, and environmental and other economic initiative, we can foster international dollars to come into Hutori and new expertise and force Hutorian companies to compete. Hutori is at it's base, a free market economy and cutting the economy off from any foreign competition does nothing but give further bloat. We want to support Hutorian firms and employment and international companies that come here will need to hire local Hutorians to do the work, but we will not close the doors just because a company has a Hutorian flag stamped on it."
The Department of International Trade has also relaxed the requirement for international companies to operate in Hutori and get registered on the Action Stock Exchange (HCSX) further cutting down on international trade barriers.
Hutorian Armed Forces Beginning Controversial Wind Down Following Recent Budget
In one of the most controversial moves since coming to office, Prime Minister James Woodbury's government has ordered the Hutorian Armed Forces to begin preparing for significant downsizing as they are proceeding with the planned reduction of the Hutorian National Defence Budget.
Defence Minister Robert Forsythe stated. "The Hutorian military is too big and bloated for what it needs to do. Hutori has no enemies around it, and the northern hemisphere is quiet and secure. While our government will always support the men and women and uniform, we no longer needs to field massive forces capable of fighting on every battlefield on Terra."
Multiple successive governments have attempted to rein in the Hutorian Armed Forces size and budget, but few government ever were able to complete the task to outcry, following the military's massive enlargement during the Second Kundrati War. As part of the downscaling Parliament near unanimously repealed the National Service Act, abolishing conscription in Hutori and empowered the provinces to scale up the size of their Provincial Militias at their discretion.
While no comment came from the office of General Mackenzie Hutt, the current Chief of the Defence Staff, insidered at the DND have confirmed that multiple bases and units have ongoing stand down orders, with the overall plan seeing a streamlining of the forces into more joint units, focusing on smaller more technically advanced units and only keeping moderate rapid response units. As part of the process it is believed that the Army will see it's overall sized reduced from it's current standing of 360,000 down to 120,000, the Air Force will see many of it's wings consolidated into Joint Operations Wings, the Marine Corps cut in half, and critically for the Royal Hutoran Navy, of it's 4 Queen Victoria class Aircraft Carriers all designated for retirement this century, only two will be replaced.

King William XVII Seen with Lady Diane Acherson at Skyhold Castle
Palace watchers are closely analyzing recent photographs taken at Skyhold Castle showing King William XVII walking the castle grounds alongside Lady Diane Acherson of Kalistan.
The two were seen together during what officials described only as a “private weekend gathering” at the royal retreat in the Macon Mountains. While Steuart House has declined to comment on the nature of their relationship, several royql insiders have quietly suggested the King’s personal life has become a matter of growing public interest. At 38, the monarch remains unmarried nearly a year after formally ending the Regency that governed Hutori during his minority, something the King's younger sisters, Princess Katrina and Princess Emily, are reportedly eager to change.
Lady Diane Acherson, the Marquess of Salon Blanco and daughter of the Count of Dana, has increasingly appeared at royal social functions over the past several months, fueling speculation within court circles that a formal announcement may eventually follow.
Palace officials reiterated that the King’s schedule remains focused on constitutional duties and ongoing memorial events following the death of the former Regent, Lord David Alvarez-Ananto, the Duke of Newport.
Defence Minister Removes Chief of the Defence Staff
In a dramatic move within the armed forces, Defence Minister Robert Forsythe has dismissed General Jayden Hutt as Chief of the Defence Staff.
The government confirmed that Admiral Lisa Conway, the Chair of the Admiralty Board, will assume the role immediately, becoming the first naval officer to lead the entire Hutorian Armed Forces in decades.
Officials within the Department of National Defence indicated the leadership change was made to ensure the military’s transition toward a smaller, technologically focused force structure proceeds “without institutional resistance.”
The move comes amid the Woodbury government’s controversial defence restructuring plan, which aims to significantly reduce troop numbers and consolidate operations across the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and the Royal Hutorian Navy.
Sources inside the defence establishment suggest disagreements between the government and General Hutt had intensified in recent months regarding the pace and scale of the military drawdown.
Hutori and Kalistan Begin Long-Term Strategic Investment Talks
The Hutorian government confirmed today it has opened negotiations with the government of Kalistan regarding a major long-term economic partnership focused on energy development, renewable technologies, and advanced research sectors.
Trade officials say the talks could lead to joint ventures involving energy grids, offshore renewable projects, and cross-border technology development funds.
International Trade Minister Laura Clyne described the discussions as “a natural extension of the historic ties between the two nations.”
Relations between Hutori and Kalistan remain uniquely close following the upbringing of King William XVII within the Kalistani royal household during the Regency years.
If finalized, the agreement would represent one of the largest foreign investment frameworks in Hutorian history and further advance the government’s policy of opening the national economy to international partnerships.
Final Republican Provincial Government Falls in Kenai
Premier Darnell Matthews Republican-led provincial government in Hutori has collapsed following a decisive election defeat in the province of Kenai.
Voters delivered a surprise victory to the insurgent National Labour Party, under Leader Vanessa Thompson, ending a decade and a half of Republican dominance in the province and eliminating the final Republican government anywhere in the country.
Political analysts say the result represents the final stage of the political realignment that began after the failed 5713 Republican Referendum, which severely damaged the party’s credibility nationwide.
The National Labour Party campaigned heavily on economic reform, expanded labour protections, and opposition to what it described as “constitutional adventurism.”
With the Kenai result, Republicans now hold no provincial governments across Hutori, a development that many observers say could force a major ideological reckoning within the party at the national level.
National Republican Chair, Henry Bakota has refused comment and to step down as Leader, following the Republican Party's collapse from Official Opposition to sixth in Parliament and the Senate and just retaining Official Party status.

King William XVII Announces Engagement to Lady Diane Acheson
In a major announcement from Steuart House this morning, the Royal Household confirmed that King William XVII is formally engaged to Lady Diane Acheson, rhs Marquess of Salon Blanco.
According to palace officials, the King proposed during the winter holidays while Lady Diane was a special guest at Steuart House for the royal family's traditional seasonal gathering. The engagement was accepted privately by both families before being publicly confirmed earlier today.
In a brief written statement released by the Royal Household, the King said he was “deeply grateful for the warmth and support of the Hutorian people” and looked forward to beginning this new chapter with Lady Diane at his side.
Lady Diane Acheson, the daughter of the Count of Dana, has increasingly appeared alongside the monarch at several royal engagements throughout the past year, fueling widespread speculation about the nature of their relationship. Their appearances together at Skyhold Castle earlier this autumn first sparked significant public discussion that the relationship had grown serious.
Officials confirmed that the royal wedding is planned for the summer of 5718, though an exact date and venue have not yet been announced.
Government officials, including Prime Minister James Woodbury, offered congratulations shortly after the announcement, with the Prime Minister calling the engagement “a joyful moment for the nation.”
Celebrations are already being planned across several provinces as Hutori prepares for what will likely be the first royal wedding in a generation.
More details about the ceremony are expected in the coming months.
