Tsargrad - As the Prime Minister and his government face continued scrutiny over their failures to prevent the Stefanisti attack, the State Security Service was visibly on the hunt today. With a nation on edge due to the attack, security services have been finding it hard to effectively find and target elements of Gradnican Defense. But this morning, shots rang through the streets of Tsargrad and police swarmed the city.
A joint operation by the State Security Service Special Intervention Team (SSSIT) and the Tsargrad Capital Police (TCP) saw countless officers from both storm several buildings in downtown Tsargrad, most notable the State Opera building. Just in time it seems, as shots could be heard throughout the opera in the early stages of the operation and, after some time, armed men left the building in a tense firefight that spilled into the streets. Well prepared, the SSSIT welcomed them with more gunfire, resulting in an end to the violence just three minutes after initial shots were fired. Elsewhere in the city, TCP raided several buildings where they confiscated makeshift explosives, countless of weapons and millions in cash. In one raid, a police dog was injured after shots were fired. TCP eventually killed the shooter.
Shortly after the events, the State Security Service issued a statement, which read as follows:
Quote:Early this morning at 9:00 AM local time, forces of the SSSIT and Tsargrad Capital Police managed to confiscate a large quantity of illegal weaponry, explosives and cash which we suspect was being used to prepare several attacks within the capital city. Additionally, our Special Intervention Teams located a terrorist cell just before a attempted attack at the State Opera building within Tsargrad. After a short exchange of gunfire, at least five suspected terrorists were killed and several more wounded. They were arrested shortly after being fired from the St. Alexa hospital.
These actions by our security services show that our work in recent days pays off as we seek to end the terrorist threat originating from the Gradnican Defense group. We ensure the public that through the cooperation of our security services, we have today struck a vital blow to the terrorist operation of this group, and will continue to do our work dilligently in keeping the public safe.
Despite the succes of today's actions, the Bastašić remains under intense pressure as the public's anger turns against the incumbent government. Czar Vjekoslav has summoned the Prime Minister to the Imperial Duha to discuss the ongoing situation, likely also pressing for the sacking of Imperial Treasurer Sedlar. Additionally, several high ranking officials within federal security services issued a letter expressing doubts over the capabilities of the current administration. If pressure on his government remains, the Prime Minister will likely find it increasingly hard to maintain the cohesion of his cabinet and remain a effective leader. With the terror threat a continious looming threat, it remains unclear what weak leadership could mean to the safety of the country.

Tsargrad - As the nation continues to be in shock over resurfaced terror threats, the crisis for the NsS government continues. Deltarac's polling average of the last few months shows that, as expected, the fall of the governing coalition from grace has continued to be a source of commentary for Deltarian political commentators.
Last week the NsS, despite criticism over their readiness for the Stefanisti attack, managed to climb in the polls in what analysts argue is a "rally around the flag" effect. But the trend is clear, with the liberal coalition slipping in the polls for months. The real turning point for the coalition came with the Sedlar Scandal, when it was revealed that Imperial Treasurer Sedlar had favoured his family and funneled state funding to several family affiliated companies. The scandal would cause a conviction of the Savez! leader, but when it broke in december the effects in the polls were immediate.
Meanwhile the KDU, still reeling from its worst result in history, had concluded a reorganization of the party and held its first every leadership election. In the end, Tsargrad mayor Ljubomir Kelemen was elected on the third ballot, winning 52% of the party vote. Kelemen, considered a principled but pragmatic hosian democrat, was already seen as one of the most popular KDU politicians. He announced that he would remain on as Tsargrad mayor until the next general election. This election gave the KDU a (popular) face, with the party also benefitting from a strong local presence. While polling stagnated in march, the party remains the largest in our average by far.
Meanwhile other parties, mainly the SSD, have failed to benefit from the fall of the liberal coalition. The party of former Prime Minister Marin Lazarescu still hovers around 19% of the vote, not falling, but not rising since the last election either. A suprising newcomer is meanwhile trying to benefit from the NsS its fall and liberal voters seeking new possibilities. The new Liberal National Party (Partidul Naţional Liberal) has steadily risen in polls since its creation. The party is a federal level political party competing as one list nationally and two seperate parties locally. The Usmarean "Nacionalni", so far competing alone, and the nationwide Liberal Party, joined forces to form the new Liberal National Party in a effort to capitalize on the NsS its downfall. The Nationals will continue to participate locally under their own name, while the Liberal Party will continue to compete in all provinces except Usmarea under their own name as well.
The new combination has consumed some of the liberal vote, now even polling above the communist RKP, which has struggled similarly to the SSD. While the New Greens are polling 2% higher then their previous result, the average also shows that left-leaning politics is currently not popular under the electorate, with many voters seeking to return to the Hosian Democratic centrism of the KDU or a liberal alternative like the PNL.
While it is uncertain when the next election will take place, clear is that with any new election a completely new political landscape will likely form.

Stefanisti - With nearly 78% of the vote, Aleksandra Kuzmanović of the KDU has been elected Governor of Gradnica in a emergency election triggered by the assasination of previous governor Nikša Pajić. Kuzmanović, a former ally of Pajić, ran on a platform of "unrelenting ressistance" against the Gradnican Defense terrorist group, repeating thrghout the campaign that under her the province would not bow to the terror of the group. It seems that the oppossite of what Gradnican Defense wanted has now been achieved, as Kuzmanović has so far pledged to go even further then her predecessor in improving living conditions for Jelbic refugees and working with Tsargrad in negotiating humane "return" deals with Jelbe authorities.
Economically Kuzmanović ran on a nearly identical campaign as Pajić, promising a mixed approach of provincial investments and less regulations for companies in the province. She also promised to grow the Gradnican Provincial Police Force (GPPF) from the current 20.000 officers to nearly 45.000, also increasing the budget for the purchase of additional equipment, improved and extended training and subsidies for local municipalities in order to strengthen their local police forces. In her acceptance speech, Kuzmanović further emphasized that her provincial government declares "total war" against Gradnican Defense.
Quote:Gradnica is not the hostage of a terrorist group. It is a young but proud part of this federation, a province on the front line of many issues within the Empire. But instead of hate and division, we stand for humanity and compassion. My government declares total war against the terror of Gradnican Defense. We declare war against fear, against hate. Together, Gradnicans will propell this province forward and work with Tsargrad in keeping each other safe.
Since the Stefanisti attack, the State Security Service has extended its security umbrella to the Governor's office, also monitoring the security situation for other provincial leaders nearly 24/7. Additionally, the GPPF has taken additional security measures to protect high ranking Gradnicans, which includes the governor and her cabinet.

Tsargrad - While not entirely suprising to Deltarian political junkies, the dissolution of the Imperial Chamber might have come as a concerning event for ordinary Deltarian citizens. While scandals, corruption and nepotism plagued the liberal government of Martin Bastašić from the beginning, many still did not suspect that Emperor Vjekoslav would resort to dissolution, as history has shown that he only resorts to the measure in dire situations. But, seeing the refusal to sack Imperial Treasurer Sedlar and the failure of the government to completely eradicate Gradnican Defense, the Czar decided to act.
In the "Instrument of Dissolution" the head of state cited "gross misconduct and a lack of public support" for the decision to dissolve parliament, also issuing a writ of election with elections to be held in January of 5698. Following his decision, the Emperor took to the public in a broadcast on our own network, appealling to the Deltarian people.
Quote:My dear subjects. It is with sadness and a sense of failure that i come to you today to announce the dissolution of the lower chamber. Despite my personal efforts to mediate and press the government on their responsibility, it has become clear that a effective government, counting on the support of a majority of the population, no longer sits within the ministry. As i issue new elections, i call upon all of you to make a choice. Our nation has faced security threats and economic hardships in recent months, with only descisive and stable leadership being capable of steering our great Empire in the right direction. I count on you to make the right choice and deliver us a government that can work towards the betterment of this nation. Only together may we push Deltaria forward/ Only together may our great Majatran project succeed, even in the face of hate and extremism now threatening our Empire
The latest polls show the KDU continue in its rise, with KDU leader Ljubomir Kelemen now launching his campaign under the slogan "Discipline, Vision, Forward". Following the dissolution, the NsS alliance immediately fell apart. Savez! broke away from the alliance, with the social liberals scrambling to leave as well. In the few years that the two worked together, Savez! nearly consumed the former Social Liberals, with the party its organization now in shambles and largely intertwined with the former NsS structures. Social Liberal representative Zoran Sodan, in a chaotic press conference, announced that all SL representatives would form a new caucus and seek to participate in the election, although it remains unclear if the SL will manage to participate in a election scheduled in just a few months time.

Tsargrad - Under a large security umbrella, one of the most consequential general elections in recent Deltarian history concluded with a KDU comeback. Tsargrad mayor Ljudomir Kelemen will almost certainly be appointed Prime Minister by Czar Vjekoslav I after capturing a absolute majority in the Chamber and a clear plurality in the newly reformed Senate. The election was characterized by a clear sense of tension, as the State Security Service, working with local and provincial law enforcement, had increased security measures throughout the country in anticipation for potential terror attacks.
In the end, only several small incidents were reported and no terror plots were uncovered or executed. With a turnout of nearly 83%, this election also marks one of the highest turnouts in recent memory as the KDU gathered the largest amount of raw votes of any party in Deltarian history (53 million). The party will once again see power as the largest party after a devastating defeat last election, delivering the first KDU Prime Minister since the last Horvat government. Kelemen thanked supporters in a crowded State Opera, the site of the failed terrorist attack just months ago and a signal to Deltarians that the KDU government will make security a top priority. With 232 seats in the Imperial Chamber, the party captured a two seat majority. In the Senate, of which only 1/3rd was elected this election, the KDU won 16 of the 25 open seats, resulting in a total number of 37 KDU seats in the upper chamber.
While under the newly enacted electoral reforms a new government needs confidence of both lower and upper house, Kelemen has already called with PNL leader Teo Simeonescu to discuss a potential confidence and supply agreement. With the PNL its 15 seats in the Senate, the KDU would get a two seat majority there as well, granting them the support needed to form a government. Seeing the clear path to a government confirmation for the KDU, Czar Vjekoslav has already invited Kelemen to the Imperial Duha, likely to appoint him Prime Minister and invite him to form a government.
With the break up of the NsS, only Savez! returned to the 12th Imperial Congress as the Social Liberals failed to get on the ballot. With just 26 seats, it is the worst result for Savez! in the party its history and its scandal ridden leader Božo Sedlar announced that, after over two decades of leader the party, he would resign as party leader and give up his newly won seat in the Chamber. The SSD meanwhile only won 3 seats this election, failing to capitalize on the fall of the liberal government and thus being forced to search for answers on how to rebounce and regain its footing.
