Investments into agriculture begin; Supporting rural Gaduridos.

As the PED continues on, and economic growth starts to accelerate (compared to prior growth at least), rural Gaduridos must be included in this growth. After all, a strong urban rural gap is not only bad for economic efficiency, but it will no doubt lead to political neglect, and ultimately extremism. As such, this is where investments into agriculture begin across the country. Currently, as it stands, Gaduri agriculture is defined by its production of fruits, mostly bananas and coffee. I'd the agriculture industry is to thrive and rural Gaduridos is to survive, this must change.

As such, the first step will be modernizing infrastructure. Failing roads can't be tolerated. Whether it be modernizing roads, irrigation systems, or storage facilities, these will reduce waste, price volatility and transport costs. Furthermore, agro processing will be needed to diversify the industry, such as processed food goods, or packaged coffee. Alongside this, modernizing equivalent such as tractors, and modernizing human capital with training programs. But to ensure diversity occurs, agriculture must branch out. Whether it be expanding to other fruits beyond bananas, dairy products, or other animal products, the industry must be diversified. As such, support will be provided for the establishment of dairy farms, and other livestock and secondary crops.

The goal is to ensure that rural communities and the Agricultural industry is just as productive and valuable as the oil and steel industry. This also has the added political goal of ensuring rural neglect doesn't occur.

Raul Galán calls for the Reform Party to embrace reforms; "The Gaduri Right must be united, nationalist, and above all, moderate" says Galán.

The Reform Party, at its height was the third pillar of Gaduri politics, standing behind the Liberals and Social Democrats. Nowadays however, Reform finds itself in its worst possible decline since it's foundation. Losing votes to the PeDG, HDP and the PSL, Conservatism in Gaduridos has been largely crippled and over the past few years, Reform has potentially looked to forming an electoral list with the HDP or even the PSL to survive. Of course, this has garnered critical from all wings of Reform as doing so may outright doom the party to junior status indefinitely. Proponents however have argued that Reform is going to die off without finding allies. The issue however has lies in the fact that Reform has looked towards the PSL for support, instead of the more moderate HDP.

One very vocal opponent to an electoral list with the PSL and a rising star, has been Raul Galán, who has been looking to rally the centrists and moderates within Reform and inject new life into party. In a recent rally, Galán outlined his vision of a "People's Conservative Party". 

As it stands, the Reform Party is neither a party of Reformists, nor a party at all anymore. We're losing support and voters to the Hosian Democrats, the State Party, and Free Soil. We're losing voters because they don't know what we stand for anymore. And quite frankly, I can't blame them. Are we a party for free market conservatives? A party for moderate nationalists? A party for small businesses? A party for farmers? Who knows, because the current Reform Party doesn't know either. If the Reform Party is to survive and rebound, then Reform needs to reform itself. We need a clear, concise, and consistent vision for Gaduridos, and the Gaduri Right. 

That is why I believe we need a new Reform. One that can survive in this national environment. A People's Conservative Party. The Gaduri Right must be united, nationalist and above all, moderate. We must reject the extremes from the far right and far left. We need a Reform that stands for Gaduri Nationalism, Small Business, Farmers, and Conservatives. A Reform that's for the people. If we want Reform to survive, we need a vision, not half hearted compromises and contradictions. We must stand for a moderate, nationalist, conservative alternative to social democracy and laissez-faire capitalism.

Of course, with Reform set to have a Party Congress later this year, Galán stands a real shot at winning and molding Reform, but equally, he's faced criticism from more right wing elements in the party, who view him as a soft liberal or even as a socialist in conservative clothing. Whatever the case, if Galán can prevail, he'll face an uphill battle as he'll need to reform the party, and compete in a very crowded right wing environment (but that could be alleviated with a potential merger with the HDP and trying to physically unite the Right). And that's assuming the far right elements in Reform even stay in the party. But, so far, the concept of a People's Conservative Party has been gaining ground amongst Reform voters and moderates within the party.

The Reform Party of Gaduridos has held its party congress, with several faces looking to win over delegates and several factions looking to secure enough leverage to change the party's manifesto and platform. Between the People's Conservatives of Galán, the "Principled Right" with Zacarías Gaos (who have favoured integration with the PSL), it's largely been a race between the two as moderates have rallied behind Galán and more vocal right wing elements in Reform have rallied behind Gaos to determine the party's future. After hours of debate and anticipation, the delegates voted to make Raul Galán the new chairman of the Reform Party, and adopt his vision of People's Conservatism. 

Almost immediately afterwards, the Principled Right walked out, with Gaos denouncing the "liberal takeover of Reform" and endorsing the PSL as the only true conservative party for Gaduridos. Despite this, Galán has pledged that "Reform will reform", and rather unsurprisingly, the HDP has congratulated Galán on his victory, with the HDP reportedly looking forward to closer cooperation between the two parties. And cooperate they most likely will as Galán has made it no secret that a merger with the HDP will be necessary for the Gaduri Right to survive against the PSSG. Whatever the case, as Galán looks to clean house, expelling more reactionary members of Reform and changing the manifesto to be more palatable to a "People's Conservative Party", it certainly seems like Galán is determined to see the Gaduri Right be united, even if it means a sacrifice for Reform.

In any case, the PSL has received a slight boost from Reforms right wing exodus as the PSL has of course, denounced Galáns chairmanship, citing his victory to be a "damaging blow to right wing unity". But, it seems all eyes are on the much anticipated merger as it'll have many questions. Whether it'll be a secular or Hosian Democratic party, whether it'll commit to laissez-faire economics or a middle ground, how much nationalism it'll embrace, and of course, who will lead it.

Birth of the Gaduri National People's Party; HDP and Reform merge in an attempt to consolidate the Gaduri Right.

After months of intra party cooperation, the Reform Party of Gaduridos and the Hosian Democratic Party have formally merged into a single, unified party. The Gaduri National People's Party (PNPG). With key party members from both party's, the Occidente Conference was held and resulted in the merger. A myriad of concessions were offered to both parties, as even despite both being in the Gaduri Right, they still are vastly different parties. But, ultimately, a common platform was agreed upon. The PNPG will formally stand for nationalism, and promoting a Gaduridos First mindset, as opposed to the PSSG's Pan-Seleyanism, formally stand for Hosian Democratic values and moral government, and formally stand for a social market economy, rejecting laissez-faire economics, respecting the necessity of the welfare state and state intervention, but prioritizing small businesses and free market options. 

Almost immediately after a common platform was agreed upon, and ratified, the PNPG set out to elect it's first chairman, as Luisa Alcabú was agreed upon as an interim chairwoman of the party. With several internal factions, both from the former HDP and Reform looking to convince delegates to give their faction the mandate, it was agreed upon to nominate Raul Galán as chairman, as his advocacy for the merger has built credibility with centrists in the newly formed party, and is palatable to former Reform members, and is acceptable to former Hosian Democrats thanks to his support for Hosian Democracy. As such, Galán will effectively have the ability to mold the PNPG into his vision of a "People's Conservative Party", and try to unite the right to oppose the PSSG. Despite this, however, the Right does still need to contend amongst itself as the Liberal Democratic Union (ULD) is still a right wing liberal party, and the Free Soil Party (PSL) is holding the nationalist right firmly under their grasp, as the Gaduri State Party (PEdG) remains a niche but notable actor in the Gaduri Right.

Whatever the case, the formation of a moderate, nationalist, conservative alternative to the PSSG and it's effects are yet to be seen and likely won't until next year's elections.

Investments into logistics begin; Attempting to turn Gaduridos into a logistics hub.

With the PSSG being reelected last October, the PED has continued on, as the focus shifts on infrastructure and logistics. After all, if Gaduridos is to retain its status as a growing trade hub, then it must have the necessary logistics to maintain that.

As such, the first aspect relates largely to the mainland duchies (Cuernatecas and Manzamal) as they're connected via the Trans-Seleyan Railway, an invaluable railway piece which will see dedicated upgrades for cargo transportation, and for Marligantos and Vintalli, both of which are excluded due to being islands, investments will need to begin on modernizing rail lines on both islands to ensure optimal trade logistics. Between all rail lines however, will need to be logistics hubs. Warehouses, depots, etc. To ensure that they are all managed, the Royal Rail Authority will establish the Freight Coordination System to ensure all traffic is monitored, processed and scheduled.

The ultimate goal is to ensure that the logistics of Gaduridos are well managed and ran. The real prize however, will be expanding rail access in Marligantos and Vintalli, which will of course, not only help wider logistics but provide economic benefits to local communities across the two islands.

Valcorico House looks to provide scholarships for low income Gaduri students across the country; The "Royal Scholarship".

Higher education in Gaduridos has historically always been split 50/50, with stuff like community colleges being made entirely free and the rest being subsidized. Ever since the Malaise however, this has seen a drift, as the country is not really in an economic position to be focusing on subsiding college and higher education to such a degree. However, while it can try, it's clear that the focus is on economic growth to support the already existing cushion before said cushion can be expanded and made nicer. The cushion being the welfare system. The Valcorico House, and His Majesty, Víctor de Valcorico who's family has had a long history of philanthropy, has looked to provide for low income students across the Kingdom by offering the (rather uncreatively named but still just as valuable) Royal Scholarship.

The goal, beyond simple altruism and supporting low income students with achieving their goals, is to not only expand the appeal of the monarchy but show that the monarchy exists to support the People and not the other way around. While sure, some republicans have tried to use it to criticize the PSSG, as the monarchy is stepping up instead of the state, these arguments have largely fallen flat as it just makes the monarchy more popular and the government look fiscally responsible. The Royal Scholarship will look to cover all tuition fees for students who receive it, and will be available across the entire country for low income students specifically.

As expected, this move has been immensely popular with monarchists across the country but most especially with low income Gaduri across the country, with His Majesty, Víctor de Valcorico having the following to say about the new program.

I believe that every Gaduri in our country, whether poor or rich, socialist or liberal, Pensio or Vintallian, this country belongs to all of us and it is the role of the monarchy to provide for its subjects. A kingdom is nothing without its people.

Of course, more left wing elements in the PSSG have called for working towards amending this and restoring free community college and subsidized higher education, but so far, many are hesitant for radical changes due to the current economy and want to focus on growth, but are open to moderate reforms to support His Majesty in supporting low income students across the country.

Moving towards moderate import substitutions; The first step to a domestic manufacturing industry.

Let's face it. It's easier to produce something domestically than import it. This doesn't mean autarky is great, it's an awful idea for any state wanting to be a trade hub. But for one trying to keep a balanced budget or at least not blow up fiscally, import substitutions are a great way to do that and equally promote domestic economic growth and jobs. As such, the goal is to create a domestic manufacturing industry. Obviously Gaduridos won't and can't become a workshop of the world or even of Seleya. And that's okay.

But, it doesn't mean that Gaduridos can't have its own domestically produced manufactured goods. For example, construction equipment. No point importing steel beams, pipes, industrial fitting and metal roofing when we possess the means to domestically produce them. Or agricultural equipment. As such, Gaduri Firms should be supported in producing these goods as every domestic manufacturing job locally, helps the wider economy. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Steel mills for example if placed near pipe manufacturing, machine part production, freight yards or construction material production can easily turn into its own self sustaining ecosystem. One steel plant can easily support several other industries. The goal simply needs to be domestic manufacturing. It can be making the aforementioned equipment or simply assembling imported goods. The manufacturing industry simply needs to get on its feet first before the government can look at anything else.

The establishment of a basic manufacturing industry can eventually pave the way for a more robust industry that can promote more middle class growth and wage growth, and ultimately wider economic growth. And economic growth means more revenue for the state, which means more funding for state programs and social programs. A win win. But, it must be balanced. Rushing headfirst into it will only cause more economic harm.

The question of where Gaduri Social Democracy goes; Where does the PSSG go, in its mission of achieving social democracy and how does it compare to other social democratic groups in Seleya?

When it comes to centre left parties in Gaduridos, the Seleyan Social Democratic Party of Gaduridos remains the defining centre left party in Gaduridos. However, the PSSG has often been forced to ask itself a question time and time again. What exactly is social democracy? On paper, that sounds like a simple question with a simple answer. But to the PSSG and it's internal factions? It's been anything but simple. Some, most especially the Garcian Socialists and other democratic socialists in the PSSG argue that the task of social democracy is to alleviate the excesses of capitalism and bring about socialism via parliamentary, democratic means. Moderates and centrists argue that social democracy and it's task is to resolve the worst issues of capitalism and maintain the market economy.

Even while the PSSG remains popular amongst many Gaduri voters across the country, this question has constantly been at the core of the PSSGs internal debates. And being the only "successful" social democratic party in Northern Seleya, it has little examples to look at. Kalistan, being an absolute monarchy lacks any social democratic parties and the Institutionalist Party of Kalistan (IPoK) has little to be learnt regarding social democracy. Baltusia, while it does have social democratic groups and parties, none are even close to forming a government of their own, and thus provide little to learn. Tukarali remains a communist state. Valruzia however, has no social democratic movement, as the only notable group is politically dead and the Communist Party of Valruzia (KPW) has effectively co-opted the parliamentary left. So social democrats in Northern Seleya only have one party to look at. The Seleyan Social Democratic Party of Gaduridos.

And there in lies the issue. While the PSSG isn't tearing itself apart over the issue, a social democratic party not knowing what exactly the goal of social democracy is, isn't exactly an ideal situation. The PSSG faces no institutional obstacles to achieving social democracy, and retains a majority in Congress, so this leaves the PSSG flexible on how to answer the question. Does it look towards moderate, democratic socialism to achieve social democracy or look towards committing to the mixed market model of social democracy? Given that the question is one without a definitive answer, it's unlikely that the PSSG will determine an answer anytime soon. And every faction has its own answer. Centrists believe that the task of social democracy is the mixed market economy, Garcian Socialists believe in the gradual, parliamentary, democratic transition to socialism and that's not even accounting for the pacifist wing of the party, which would rather focus on more pressing issues than abstract questions. 

Despite this, the PSSG is unified on what social democracy isn't. It isn't revolutionary, radical socialism, nor is it communism. Social democracy isn't liberalism rebranded for the working class. Despite these unanswerable questions, the current version of social democracy that the PSSG finds itself subconsciously embracing does seem to point towards a potential answer to the question. An internationalist, Pan-Seleyan, mixed market, and pacifist answer. And these only make sense. The PSSG was not founded as just the PSSG in 5427 but as a merger between the liberal socialist National Progressive Party, the pan-seleyan Seleyan Union Party, and the ethical socialist Independent Socialist Party. They all merged to promote a moderate, Pan-Seleyan, social democratic vision for Gaduridos during a time of extremism. And perhaps, in this day and age, moderation and calmness is what social democracy needs. While the question of what social democracy exactly is will be impossible to answer for the PSSG, or at the very least, difficult, it certainly won't stop the PSSG from striving to achieve social democracy.

ULD Party Chairman Iker Graciani announces intents to resign; ULD to elect a new chairman in October.

The Liberal Democratic Union remains the most prominent advocate for liberalism within Gaduridos, and while retaining success in local elections, most especially in Vintalli, the ULD has struggled to see national success, most especially against the juggernaut that is the PSSG. However, when Iker Graciani was elected Party Chairman in 5728, there was hope that the ULD could recapture its middle class voter base for national elections. Only for that hope to be dashed in 5730, and with the ULD narrowly winning governorship of Vintalli and relying on United Vintalli to maintain a majority in the Vintalli State Congress, it's become clear that the current direction of the ULD is untenable. While Graciani has done well in keeping the ULD together, and was able to survive an internal vote of no confidence last year, Graciani has announced his intents to resign, citing the terminal illness of his wife, of which the ULD has respected that and accepted his resignation. 

As such, the ULD is set to hold an internal election later this year, specifically in October to elect a new party chairman. While it's too early to say who will win, several candidates have already been floated. First and foremost, Graciani's protege, Patricio Reyes. While sitting to the right of centre in the ULD and being centrist, Reyes does have the support, both as he is the protege of Graciani, and because sometimes moderation is what survives times of downturn. If he were to be elected, the ULD would most certainly maintain the status quo. However, Reyes has many opponents who are looking to become chairman and shift the party in a different direction.

One such opponent, is Ana Sofia Seco, who sits firmly on the right of the ULD. Being a firm nationalist, if elected, she would shift the party more towards national liberalism and consolidating the right liberal voter bloc. Most certainly, she would see the ULD cooperate less with left wing parties such as the PSSG and United Vintalli, and more right with the Right, such as the PNPG. She would certainly appeal to moderate right voters who favour liberalism instead of conservativism. But, she has opponents in the party's left and most especially in the Vintalli branch of the ULD, as such a shift would alienate United Vintalli and threaten the ability for the Vintalli Duchy to have a coherent government.

And speaking of the left, we have Eustacio Obregón, former journalist turned politician who has consistently described himself as a social liberal. Obregón would certainly shift the party to the left a bit, and while capitulating to the PSSG on a few issues, Obregón would certainly allow the ULD to tap onto some working class voters and even reclaim progressive middle class voters who may feel the PSSG is too regulatory, looking to appeal as a moderate alternative between the PSSG and PNPG. However, his opponents are many as the ULD Right is vehemently opposed, arguing that Obregón would dilute the liberal values of the ULD and capitulate too much to the PSSG.

Another candidate, Nico Miralles however, has potential. A firm classical liberal, Miralles sits firmly in the centre of the ULD and favours reorienting the party towards taking advantage of the federalist debate, instead of relying on solely economic messaging to win back the middle class. However, his large criticism is that this message relies too much on hoping a constitutional amendment can occur and is only kicking the can down the road for the wider liberal vote.

Overall, these are so far, the top four candidates who are likely to emerge as the victor in October. Whoever wins will certainly have to face the challenge of dealing with the juggernaut that is the PSSG and also deal with the consolidating right wing under the PNPG.

Governor of Vintalli resigns as ULD-VU Coalition looks shaky; Orlando Venegas (VU) elected as replacement.

When Ana Sofia Seco won the Party Chairmanship Election for the Liberal Democratic Union (ULD), and began shifting the party towards a more National Liberal orientation, many liberals in the Duchy of Vintalli have grown worried over the stability of the current state government, which consists of the coalition government between the ULD and United Vintalli. Not only is United Vintalli an explicitly regionalist party for Vintalli, but it is also firmly centre left, with its current chairman being a moderate social democrat. So, it came to no surprise that the two parties started to have friction. 

In the State Congress of the Duchy of Vintalli, disputes were already emerging within the coalition due to the former Governor, Gabriel Tamayo (ULD) who sat firmly on the right of the ULD came under fire for neglecting to enforce most aspects of the Civil Rights Act, most particularly on Vintallian Businesses and whether they were being discriminated upon in receiving local state loans. While these were mere speculations, it was enough to cause heavy discussion within the coalition and it likely would've died down, and Tamayo would've continued his term without major issue. That is, until it was reported by several local sources that the tax breaks towards the Coffee Industry in Northern Vintalli enacted by the Duchy of Vintalli earlier last year were extended to private coffee farms owned by family members of Governor Tamayo. Local journalists soon discovered that Governor Tamayo had never publicly disclosed these interests. Within hours of the leak, accusations of nepotism were flung all over the Vintalli State Congress. After a brief investigation that was passed by the Vintalli State Congress, it was revealed that the coffee farms owned by Governor Tamayo's family had indeed benefitted immensely from the tax breaks. 

Within days, pressure kept rising until ultimately, on February 19th, Governor Tamayo resigned after confessing that he was "aware of the perception and failed to disclose them". Immediately upon his resignation, the ULD-VU Coalition voted to replace him with Orlando Venegas (VU), a moderate social democrat, who has pledged to reverse the tax breaks, and prevent another abuse of power like this from happening again. While both United Vintalli and the ULD agree that nepotism is bad, this hasn't stopped ideological clashing as the ULD is still in favour of the tax breaks on principle. Combine this with the recent national liberal shift that the ULD has taken, and suddenly, the PSSG or even the PNPG (who's Vintallian branch is significantly more moderate on nationalism) looks more appealing as a coalition partner than the ULD.

Whether the coalition survives or not, is yet to be seen but the scandal and the wider effects of it are causing controversy within the coalition and the wider Duchy of Vintalli.
