An Interview with President Narelle Ewart Regarding Her Eight Month Term and the Legislative Coup Against Her

President Narelle Ewart was removed from her office today by a legislative coup conducted by the Patriotic league and Liberal Democratic Party after they refused to sit in her government. They cite their reason for this coup to be that "President Ewart failed to form a government, instead she relied off of the government formed by President Caesar Furhat and interim ministers appointed to former LDP positions." The LDP even went as far to claim that there was no government since the legislature had not approved of it, apparently they were unaware of the Presidential Prerogative. After the early elections, the Patriotic League once again came out at the top of the legislature, but this time also holding the Presidency which they had stolen from President Ewart.

Jackson: Good afternoon, Ms. Ewart. Thank you for this interview.

Ewart: No, thank you, I'd very much like to speak publicly about what just happened.

Jackson: Before we get into the more dramatic bits, can you first tell us briefly what you have achieved during your short Presidency?

Ewart: Well, first of all, don't listen to the Liberals and Patriots, I did form a government. Both the LDP and PL refused to sit in our government and the LDP ministers went as far as to resign because they weren't catered to their exact demands.We did form form a government, an interim government and my opponents would have you think I'd have the interim government sit until 4521. No. I don't believe they know what interim means. I've also called the National Constitutional Court, originally to argue the legality of interim ministers, but do to the coup, I guess they're just sitting now for the next six years. And lastly, but most importantly, I triggered this legislative coup, which is better than you'd expect. We now know who exactly are our enemies, which parties will act like children when they don't get their way, who knows nothing about Kalistan or how its governed, and who are just snakes with a lust for power. Our coalition even had a net increase in seats after the election. The only bad thing about my Presidency was its end, that's unlike certain other recent Presidents who ran our economy into the ground and neutered our military. But hey, all that doesn't compare to my "failure" to form a government.

Jackson: Why did the Liberal Democrats and Patriots refuse to sit in government?

Ewart: Well, the Patriots refused for a simple and understandable reason: I refused to grant them the Premiership. Their logic was that since they were the largest party in Kalistan, they should get the Premiership. Now that's not bad logic, but it does show ignorance of tradition. In Kalistan, as you know, Presidents appoint their supporters to the seat of Premier before their opponents, which is what we planned on doing. But the Patriots don't know anything about Kalistan. It's like they're foreign agents, Trigunian bots, haha... As for the Liberal Democrats, they demanded that we give them four ministries and an oath to not support any nationalization bills, which that last part was absurd, so they changed their second demand to support their tax cuts. I made them a counter argument: You support the recreation and nationalization of KalMilInCo, and we support your tax cuts. They refused, apparently confused as to how someone would have the gall to make a demand of the mighty LDP, party of Caesar the privatizer. I don't like what the formation of governments has become. These demands show complete disrespect to the Prerogative and the people, and isn't it surprising that this disrespect has spawned from the parties that clearly skipped their schooling.

Jackson: What do you think about the election of president Michael Blake from the Patriotic League?

Ewart: Oh, I'm not worried. As strange as it sounds to say it, the LDP is the voice of reason in the cabinet. I don't believe there's a chance in hell that the PL would be able to pass any damaging laws, unless the LDP has traded away what shreds remains of their love for Kalistan behind closed doors with Patriot representatives. I'm not worried at all, I'm sure the LDP has more dignity than that.

Jackson: What do you think about President Blake's National Defense Reform Act?

Ewart: It won't pass, and if it does, we'll riot. It's an obvious consolidation of power by getting rid of any possible armed opposition to Blake's regime. It won't pass.

Jackson: The National Conservative Party obviously endorsed Georgia Van Wyck in the early election, does that mean you'll no longer be the NCP's Presidential candidate?

Ewart: Yes, the President must be friendly towards the other parties, and I have no respect for a certain few. I'm just going to go home to Neveras. I was originally planning on returning to the National Assembly, but I'm sick of the cutthroat Kaliburg politics. Maybe I'll run for governor, but this is my last year in Kaliburg.

Jackson: Thank you for your time Ms. Ewart, bu we're out of it.

Ewart: It's over? That's too bad, I had a few more criticisms I wanted to give.

Government finally formed after 7 months !

After 7 months of drought a coalition government has finally been formed. The instigators of the Early Elections, the Patriotic League and Liberal Democratic Party have formed a coalition government which was proposed by President Blake to Parliament, with a combined Seat count of 166,this government is expected to be a stable one which is needed by the people who have suffered through interim government and instability since Ceaser Furhat left office. The New government labeled “Patriotic Liberals Government” is expected to push through new reforms however the different ethics in social policy may be an issue which will need resolvement. With the Conservatives switching considerably to the Left-wing the Staunch Free-market LDP found no alternative to joining with the Patriotic League to continue their government. The LDP gained 5 ministries from the two-party coalition and also the Premier of the Republic which will lead the government is from the Liberal Democratic Party. The new Premier of the Republic is Haytham Kennedy,a young Liberal who joined the LDP in 4503,He served as the youth-wing leader from 4505 to 4510 and then was named to the LDP council in 4511 by Ceaser. A charismatic man, Kennedy is seen as a future leader within the LDP and no doubt will prove himself with being the Premier in the new Government.

Tens of thousands pack into Nationalist Square for Kaliburg Work Stoppage and Rally

An impromptu work stoppage protesting unjust legislation being proposed in National Government was called this afternoon.  The Socialist Party called the Work Stoppage in support of the Militias and the National Safety Net, and the call was heeded by members of the Institutionalist Bloc in Kaliburg.  Similar work stoppages occurred throughout the Republic and were accompanied by rallies, concerts and general comraderie.  It is also believed that many members of the LDP joined in, enjoying the great music and general fellowship with their countrymen and women.

"What the Government is doing is just unbelievable.  They are systematically dismantling Kalistan, piece by piece," said SP member Francesca Hernandez.  "We are standing up today to remind them that they only represent the people who voted for them, and nobody else.  And we will disobey the law if we have to, and will KEEP walking out until they temper their destructive policies."

The Kaliburg Rally was attended by 45,000 workers from across the district, and even some foreign visitors.  Lourennais native Henri Dupont de la Maison said, "Well, we were just, eh, how do you say, seeing your sites...  and this eh musique broke out here in the plaza and we were lucky enough to hear it...  We Love Kalistan, its music is far and away much better than anything we have in Lourenne.  Luckily I have the, eh, how do you say...  The shortwave...  I get your marvelous radio at home...  But...  they do not compete in the baguettes...  In this, ONE, categorie, there is, shall we say, no contest."

Work stoppages will be organized across the country during the coming weeks and months.  It is uncertain whether music will accompany the events.

In other news, Socialist controlled National Defense Consortium has agreed to not supply the the National Government with weapons or ammunition, and will instead divert all production to the needs of the Institutionalist Militias.  "We cannot, in good conscience, give the Patriots the Tools to kill socialists and other Parties defending the Institutions of this nation from destroyers,"  said Consortium Chairwoman Delores DiVerdes.  "Its really ironic, actually.  If the Government had just left the Industries we now control Nationalized, this would not be a problem.  But I suppose they will have to look around now to find a new source of bullets.  No doubt it will be far more expensive for them than it would have been if our industries had just supplied them.  But in another supreme twist of irony:  They just cut taxes, so they will be even less able to buy bullets than they used to be...  How shortsighted of the Government..."

Kalistani Defense Consortium announced the final acquisition of the old factories under the Kalistani Military Industry Company.  This follows their acquisition of the final outstanding assets of the old KalNaPeCo and KalnaFerCo over the last year.

Political Terrorism in Kaliburg

The Politically-fueled incidents which occured in Kaliburg recently were labeled as “work-stoppage” by the Opposition. However the act was a clear attempt of injuring the economy and leaving the country impaired. Rightfully the incident was called an “act of political terrorism” by the government. The Premier of the Republic Haytham Kennedy had this to say:

This is unprecedented in Terra History. A clear act of political terrorism aimed to danger the national interest of the state for the sake of political points. The opposition has shown how low they will go for the sake of forcing their political dicta regime in the throats of the people. The silent majority is happy with the process of reform in hand and these are nothing but the acts of a few poor devils who have been pulled into these acts by political or financial bribery. The government with all its ministries is happy and is 100% sure that the path taken is the path needed. We recently cut 200 billion in taxes from the people. We removed the back-breaking tax which was put to even someone who had a pay of 1
coin. Mind you these were taxes put by the “champion of the workers” the left. We have relaxed the burden of taxes from the people and continue to reform and improve in every way. May the kalistani’s be ensured.

Newly Formed Medical Corps Begins Preparations for Public Medical Service

With the realization that the Liberal Omnibus bill will pass, due to the inclusion of an article which will privatize healthcare, Marshal Douglas Montgomery of the Conservative Army of Kalistan announced that the militia would train a medical corps along with the five new combat divisions. The five 500 man medical battalions will be deployed across Kalistan with the sole purpose to care for any Kalistani in need of medical assistance until the Institutionalist coalition can reverse the policy and secure medical safety to the people.

When asked if he thinks the National Security Act will have any effect on the operations of the Medical Corps, Marshal Montgomery gave the following statement:

No, it will have no effect on the operations on the Medical Corps, or any CAK unit for that matter. We refuse recognize the legitimacy of that law and we'll continue all operations no matter what the Patie usurpers or Libie traitors say. We don't take orders from them, or their false President. We're loyal to President Ewart, our coalition, the Republic, and the Kalistani people, nobody else matters to us, especially not traitors.

LAFA crews from the All Socialist Shooting and Carousing Club sunk three ships in the Ananto Strait this week

While waiting for the Kalistani Navy to deploy from bases in Ananto and Mainland Kalistan, Socialist Partisans of the All Socialist Shooting and Carousing club deployed along the Northern Limit, and began targetting illegal commercial shipping attempting to enter the Straits.

"We are responding to their flagrant violation of Kalistani Sovereignty, and their absolute disregard for the agreements made by their Government to stay out of our territorial waters without our express Permission,"  said LAFA Captain Omar Al-Qatb. 

Socialist politicians rushed a new Militias act to the National Assembly to relegalize Militias, but meanwhile, the Leader of the Socialist Party, Georgia Van Wyck claimed that the SP had the authority to launch the attacks under current law.  "We rest upon the Kalistani Authorization of Privateering Act which remains on the books from the LAST time these imperialists wanted to dictate to Kalistan who sails through its waters.  We will not be targeting Lourennais Shipping this time, but we will work to keep hold the Northern Limit against these bastards until the Kalistani Navy relieves us."

The Privateering Act permits the issuance of letters of Marque for the capture and sinking of any national shipping deemed necessary by the National Government.  The Socialist Crews took the "Act then ask for forgiveness" approach to the matter, and began acting in an emergency capacity.

According to the Modernization plan, Kalistan still has a fully functioning navy, and at last report, all fleets had deployed from Kalistani bases to join those crews on duty in the Northern and Southern Limit.  Meanwhile, Kalistani partisans sunk three civilian ships attempting to cross the limit, but backed off as Kazulian military vessels appeared to respond to the attacks.  No reports of the civilian casualties have been made, but it is known that 18 Lafas in 3 packs took part in the attacks.

Navy continues FON operations in Ananto Straits
Policy shift re-enables FON operations in Ananto Straits by Kazulian Navy

Kazulian Frigates re-enter the straits to protect commercial shipping against privateers.

For sometime, the Kazulian Government has remained silent on the issue of the controversial Ananto Strait. For decades, the Kalistani Government had argued that the body of water between mainland Kalistan and the islands of Ananto was sovereign territory, and that maritime traffic, specifically military maritime traffic was strictly prohibited. Establishing the Northern and Southern Limits of the Strait, the Kalistani Navy, in it's seemingly dilapidated state, maintains Kalistan's claim of the body of water. In response to this the Kazulian Government had compromised with the Kalistani Government, citing the sentiment of tolerance. In a major shift of policy, the Department of Defence alongside the Department of Foreign Affairs stated that the government will not tolerate nor will it learn to live with the fact that the Kalistani Government is attempting to shutdown and claim such an important sea route. The 1st Fleet, which is responsible for maritime security and MOOTW operations within Dovani and Eastern Seleya, sent several frigates back into the strait in-order to escort convoys of commercial shipping. During the period whereby the Kazulian Government turned a blind eye to the Straits, commercial shipping through the straits had been granted permission from the Kalistani authorities. The Department of Defence has come out stating that it will not ask for permission to traverse international wars, citing freedom of navigation.

Our re-balance and presence in the Strait is becoming functional once more. The Anantonese Ocean is critical to our national security interests and thus, it is our belief that we must take the necessary measures in ensuring that this important region be made accessible to all nations. The Kalistani Government's blatant disregard for international law, not only endangers the economies of various nations but its also endangers the close interaction of several nations. I have stressed the need for freedom of navigation operations within all international waters and airspace. In maintaining a credible combat capacity, we must promote freedom of navigation in international waters and we must stand against attempts similar to that of the Kalistani Government.

The last time Kazulian surface combatant vessels entered the straits they were meet with fire from Kalistani vessels. Admiral Heidenstam warned that any act of aggression against Kazulian shipping, might it be commercial or military through the straits will be met with an asymmetrical response. The Kazulian Navy had invited nations to send shipping through the straits once more, citing the Straits as "re-opened to the international community." The Department of Foreign Affairs sent a communique informing the Kalistani Government of Kazulia's switch in the policy and presence of military shipping in the strait. With commercial shipping re-opened through the strait, shipping companies have welcomed the move as the closing of the strait meant longer distance had to be covered for shipping that wasn't allowed through the strait which significantly hindered efficiency as more money would have to be spent on fuel to traverse around the closed strait.

Eroncourt, Joviant: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an urgent meeting with the Prime Minister Antonio Oktal
and with the Crown Representative Jacqueline Bouvier in Eroncourt yesterday in regards to the regional pressure
caused by Kalistan and Trigunia. Recently, Kalistan held a large scale militia training exercise in Ananto where they
simulated an invasion by Lourennais troops and practiced to "attack Lourennais troops". In the north, Trigunia has
more recently sent their ships to the Ananotnese Ocean. Alarmed by the actions from both states, the Royal Navy's
1st and 2nd Response Fleets were sent to the Anantonese Ocean for patrolling and exercises in the wake of Trigunian
resurgence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to release an official statement on the issues at large. However, through an
interview with The Eroncourt Press, Minister of Foreign Affiars Louis Fernand stated that "The recent actions by
Kalistan and Trigunia are very alarming. We are surprised that our Kalistani neighbors believe that we would launch
an invasion on their country. I believe that we surpassed our "Decades of Tension", yet it seems we have not. Our
armed forces will not set foot in Kalistan, unless of course, Kalsitan continues their childish actions. After talks
with the Minister of Defense, Our fleets will remain in the Anantonese Ocean until the Trigunians end the regional
tension that they are uselessly creating. We do not want conflict the Tiguninans or the Kalistanis. However, it seems
as if they are asking for it. Eroncourt will remain aware and vigilant until the tension eases off."

With Tensions Between Kalistan and Kazulia Growing, CAK Forces Mobilize

With the interdiction into Kalistani waters by the Kazulian and Lourennais navies, Kalistanis from the government and opposition alike have set aside their differences to join together against the mutual Kazulian and Lourennais threat. Actions already taken to defend the territorial integrity of the Republic have ranged from the cease of hostilities between the Institutionalists and the Ephemerals to the sinking of Kazulian merchant vessels.

The Conservative Army of Kalistan also started doing its part in defending the Republic. The CAK High Command issued on April 5 an order to all combat ten divisions to garrison their home Districts and also to the medical battalions in the four coastal provinces to provide aid to any wounded ASSCC sailors.

Deputies from the Socialist Party of Kalistan: SPoK Deputies introduced a bill which would relegalize party militias.

President Michael Blake: The President gave an executive order which would allow militia to operate legally and and another which authorized privateering.

Deputies from the Patriotic League: PL Deputies introduced a war powers act which would give the government the power to draft Kalistani citizens and allow the military to make use of landmines.

Mortelé orders Homeland Fleet preparations
September 4520

President Mortelé has ordered the Minister of Defence to prepare the naval military reserve in order to join the current operational task group. This means that the Homeland Fleet would be formed. The Homeland Fleet would be the last line of Defence in wartime or the expeditionary maritime forces in case our sovereignity would be violated. Reason is the growing tension between Kalistan and Kazulia.

"Dear citizens, for the first time since years I address you without joyful news. Our neighbours of Kalistan are on the breach of going to war with Kazulia. The last thing I want is to enter an armed conflict. But nevertheless, Kalistan and Lodamun have certain treaties which we should respect. As President of Lodamun I hope to put some weight in the scale to solve this issue by diplomacy. Therefore I wish to invite delegations of both Kazulia and Kalistan to our nation and commence the quest for a possible solution. In the meanwhile, we should respect the treaty on our common EEZ with Kalistan. Today, I have ordered Minister of Defence Dellano to mobilize the reserve and to form a naval expeditionary taskgroup to control and supervise our EEZ as defined in the Law of the Sea. We will not patrol or intervene in areas other than defined in the Law of the Sea."

Word has it that the First Fleet is also preparing.
