Her Highness, the Crown Princess Carolina Ananto-Hulanevek has become engaged to be married.  Crown Princess Carolina has been dating Mr. William Ricardo Sandoval, 32, from Dahriel who is the youngest head of the Ananto Growers' Syndicate ever selected.  Mr. Sandoval is an agronomist, who is the son of Gaduri immigrants. Mr. Sandoval was elected by the Marijuana growers section of the Growers' Syndicate to the Syndicate Central Committee at the age of 25.  Under his tenure, marijuana growers in the Gold Plain and in Luxon County won important profit sharing agreements from ODEN. As a result of his negotiation efforts on behalf of Syndicate members, and his relentless drive to increase membership in the Ananto Growers' Syndicate, he was elected as Director of the Ananto Growers' Syndicate in general elections late last year.

"Mr. Sandoval completed National Service and then opted to go to work on his parent's farm," said Crown Watcher Antonio Boudreau.  "The Crown Princess met Mr. Sandoval at the 5575 Smokeout held in Dahriel and they hit it off.  Her Imperial Majesty's office asked the press to keep the budding romance off the society pages, to protect the couple's privacy, but now that the engagement is public, there are Crown Princess and William Sandoval sightings all over Kaliburg.  It is very exciting to know that a royal wedding is in the offing."

Mr. Sandoval is said to enjoy cinema, outdoor activities like hiking and climbing, and of course the science of agronomy.  "A Civil Engineer and an agronomist together," said Boudreau.  "These two are certainly compatible intellectually.  They have a lot of interests in common.  They are both music fans:  They met at the ODEN Smokeout a couple years ago and hit it off immediately.  Mr. Sandoval was introduced by a mutual friend, and the two apparently spent the entire evening together.  Both have a good sense of humor and they're both obviously good looking.  Mr. Sandoval is a good match for the Princess."  Sandoval is also a known Nationalist and was heard to speak in support of Gaduri Accession to the Empire.  "He will obviously do all he can to support the future Empress' policies especially when they focus on national growth and national interest."

The marriage date is set for November 15 of this year, and will be held in Eveari at the Eveari Meeting House.  Meanwhile, expect to see more of Mr. Sandoval in the Press.

Famed Sulari Nightclub promoter Edwin Bob is travelling to the Dual Republic of Narikaton and Darnussia to work with local investors to open a new Nightclub.  "Our holding Company, Pleasure Unlimited LLC, has reached out to several N&D investor groups who are investing in the entertainment services industry there and we think we can do a deal to bring the Kalistani club model to the newly expanding nighclub scene," said Bob at a shareholders meeting last week.  "The idea would be to open a venue that not only showcases the best Republican DJs in a dance environment, similar to the RF Club scene in Sulari and Kaliburg, but also a venue that can showcase live acts from across the nation and the continent, and can even host a Kalistani band if they ever decide to tour."

Bob said the dynamism of the burgeoning scene in Narikaton is exciting.  "This scene is a great opportunity to experiment on not only business models, concern for which I think I share with the promoters in the Dual Republic, but also in models of customer service.  For example:  What happens when you increase the guestlist in the VIP lounge by 10 people?  Does it increase the quality of service?  Does it increase or decrease the satisfaction of those who are on the list?  What happens when you include different types of drinks at the bars?  Different DJs from different areas, hell:  What happens when you put one more bathroom on each floor of the club?  All of these things we can't really do in Kalistan, because our scene is pretty ossified by now, but we can try in Narikaton, to deliver a truly mindblowing experience to a population who is, by accounts I have read, positively starving for a mindblowing experience."

Bob is very eager to get started working in Narikaton.  "I have turned over the operations of the Clubs here in Sulari to my board.  I'm going to bring maybe ₭25 million with me as seed money, and let's see what kinda parties we can start with that!"  Bob said he intends to relocate to the Dual Republic for not more than 4 years to work with the Artanian investors at developing a new Bannerfafen club that will demonstrate Bob's  vision.  "And yes, I am bringing Michael (Levine, Edwin Bob's husband of 7 years), don't worry!  They don't recognize marriage equality there, but its no big deal, because they also don't really care how we live otherwise.  This will be a spectacular event!"

Bob also noted that he hopes to attract Kalistani bands and DJs to the Dual Republic.  "Of course, we know that Narikaton has their own music scene, but I think the spectacle of a Kalistani band playing, while fairly mundane in Kalistan, would be a treat for club goers in Bannerhafen, if for no other reason than the opportunity to see different things.  In exchange, I hope to get Republican bands to visit Kalistan.  Folks in Sulari crave new things, and bringing in music from Artania would definitely be a smash success, since we are visited so rarely by bands from outside the Empire."

The only potential hurdle Bob sees is Narikaton's policy on recreational drug use.  "I think it will be a real change for me," said the promoter, who was reported to regularly use both cannabis and cocaine on the job.  "The thing about drugs is, they make nights a lot more fun.  They tear down a lot of inhibitions that people have.  But I am confident that we can give people that experience without drugs too:  It will require probably a lot of other sensory stimulation.  Unfortunately, public sexual intercourse is also illegal in Narikaton...  I sort of understand why people need these clubs.  I am confident that working with the republicans, we can certainly give it to them anyway!"

Bob leaves for Narikaton at the end of the month.  "Whatever our club ends up becoming, the local investors will own it, but I want to see it get off the ground.  I am very excited to see what we can do when we work together!"

Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Pavlina I Ananto flew to Gaduridos on a one week visit.  She was accompanied by Dame Jacqueline DuMont, who Her Imperial Majesty has authorized to speak on her behalf, giving her experience of advancing Alzheimer's disease.  Before leaving, Her Imperial Majesty read a written statement, slowly but clearly.

We have but a few comments and will not delay you all long. We travel now to our new realm, the Kingdom of Gaduridos, to meet with the her chosen Government and confirm their decision.  The Social Democratic Party of Gaduridos have been asked to form a government to help them move their program forward. They have done so to our satisfaction, and we seek to make it known that we will support their efforts on all fronts.

We wish to hold an audience with our new Governor General, Señora Victoria Montenegro, who is the leader of the Social Democrats.  Under her year-old administration and competent and visionary leadership, our Government has already begun modernization of the educational system for Gaduri children, and they are in the process of continuing to improve their nation's infrastructure and investment climate.  We look very much forward to the progress they are making.  We are especially encouraged to note their desire to at least instruct their children in our Language, and to do so out of a desire to further bind our two nations together under the Empire. 

And further more, our daughter is pleased that Gaduri children will have the opportunity to study both civics and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics intensively in schools.  She has expressed that education along these lines will certainly prepare Gaduridos for the future and help raise people above the toil and drudgery of hard manual labor, especially where they possess the skills to use their mind for the advancement of our people.

In addition, it is our desire to name our Governor General Montenegro a knight of the Order of Vintalli, and as such, shall she shall, upon her knighthood, be required to maintain the title Dame before her name.  It is a simple matter, but we also feel that to have our complete confidence, we must elevate her above the commoner rank. 

Finally, we hope to meet with Nationalist and Communistical leaders in Gaduridos who represent opposing viewpoints.  It is our regret that we were not able to meet with them sooner, but we should like to, at least hear their grievances and learn if resolution on any mutually agreeable terms would be possible.  We wish for them to feel that they too may use their voice to speak for their ideas, and we want to assure them that, while it may not be possible to accommodate them in every sense, we will hear them, and give them an opportunity to explain what it is that they want and work with us to ensure that civil peace and ideological plurality remain possible within Gaduridos.

While in the Kingdom of Gaduridos, we have asked our Foreign Minister, Dame Jacqueline DuMont, to speak on our behalf.  As the world knows, a horrible disease is slowly bringing darkness to our memories, and it is our intention than our wishes be made known though we ourselves may be less than able to fully express them at all times.  We shall do well enough, and we have asked Dame DuMont to write down our statements in our more lucid moments, so that she shall be able to represent our wishes fully to those we wish to meet with.  It is, however, very important to us that we not only send our trustworthy representative, but also be present ourselves, to impress upon our countrymen and women our commitment to our new relationship.  We shall see you all upon our return.

The short speech, which lasted considerably longer than it would otherwise, due to Her Imperial Majesty's slow and deliberate cadence of speech, led many to believe that this will likely be Her Imperial Majesty's last trip abroad.  Her Imperial Majesty waved to photographers as she boarded her private aircraft, and departed shortly thereafter.  Soon after take off, Her Imperial Majesty's Foreign Minister is reported to have made a call to Wilson House in Kaliburg, to update Her Highness, Crown Princess Carolina, on Her Imperial Majesty's speech.  It is believed that the Foreign Minister, Her Imperial Majesty, and the Crown Princess have now begun discussing a timeline for transition.  What is certain is that nothing will happen before the Crown Princess' wedding this November, but after that, the machinery could begin to move quickly.

Her Highness the Crown Princess Carolina Ananto-Hulanevek has married William Ricardo Sandoval, of Dahriel.  Sandoval, a first Generation descendant of Gaduri immigrants is the Director of the Ananto Growers' Syndicate and is nearly two years the Crown Princess' senior.  The match is said to be a love match, and is the result of an almost two year long courtship between the future sovereign and the Cannabis baron.

The marriage took place in Eveari, at the Eveari Monthly Meeting House.  The unassuming meeting house is the home meeting for the Brethrenist Emperors and Empresses for centuries, and the Meeting has accepted the continuing responsibility for the Crown Princess, and care for royal couple's spiritual needs.

The Brethrenist Meeting for the Purpose of Marriage began as all attendees entered into the Meeting House, and were called to silence by the Meeting's Clerk, Catherine Schmidt.  The meeting continued for 30 minutes in Silence, but members and guests were invited to speak out of the reverent silence to express their thoughts on the royal marriage.  Some of the Crown Princess' friends spoke.  Dame Lindsay Ontiveros-Maxwell rose slowly, with help, to tell the Crown Princess that she remembered the little Carolina Hulaneveek was when she first arrived in Kalistan, and she is very proud of the woman that she has become.  Several older members of the Meeting also stood and said that they had initially agreed to take Her Imperial Majesty and the Crown Princess into their spiritual care when they first arrived and welcome the opportunity to continue to serve the Royal Family in this fashion.  Her Imperial Majesty Empress, for her part was seen holding a whispered conversation with Dame Jacqueline DuMont, but neither woman spoke out of the silence.

Following the Silent period, the Clerk signaled to Her Highness to rise and exchange messages between herself and her betrothed.  The Crown Princess expressed the joy and happiness that she has known since meeting Mr Sandoval, and how she looks forward to sharing her life with her beloved.  Sandoval for his part expressed his happiness at finding someone who is as kind, as conscientious, and as vivacious as the Crown Princess and shall do all he can to be her helpmate in all aspects of life from then to they shall no longer exist.  

Upon the conclusion of the exchange of these brief messages, the Clerk invited the couple to exchange rings, and then the Clerk announced that the two were in fact married, and were now, as a couple, taken into the care of the Eveari Monthly Meeting as husband and wife.  A romantic song played on flute to celebrate the couple, and then all were asked to sign the Brethrenist Marriage Certificate, which will be framed and placed in Wilson House above the fireplace in the Living Room.

The Wedding ceremony was followed by a reception at Ananto Estate in Eveari.  There the new couple received their guests and various dignitaries and welcomed everyone to have a good time.  Besides Her Imperial Majesty's Government which were all on hand, Dame Ontiveros also attended, with much difficulty, and was accompanied by Her Imperial Majesty who sat with her and generally had a good time.  Also in attendance was the Governor General of Her Imperial Majesty's Government, Dame Victoria Montenegro, who, with her partner, wished the Crown Princess well, and said she looked forward to working with Her Highness in the near future.  Also attending was Her Imperial Majesty's Foreign Minister in Gaduridos, Mr. Anthony Aguayo.  It was whispered, but nobody mentioned it out loud, that it will be sooner than later that these welcomed Gaduri dignitaries will be returning to Kalistan, but next time to a coronation.

More unexpected, but welcomed, was a Luthorian, Mr Ronald Charteris, who serves as Lord Privy Seal to Her Majesty, the Empress of Luthori.  While Mr. Charteris' mission to Kalistan was not clear, the private secretary to the Empress was welcomed to speak at some length with the Crown Princess.  Some reports suggest that Mr. Charteris was invited to the Wedding Reception to open the door a little more to improved relations between the two long time adversaries.  Others say that Luthori making a specific effort to come to sound out the future sovereign demonstrates that Luthori seems more willing to make an effort to repair relations with Kalistan.  The Luthorian bureaucrat's attendance will go a long way to set the tone for better relations in the coming days and months ahead.

During the reception, there was lots of delicious food served, and lots of dancing.  After the first half hour, the doors of Ananto Estate were opened to the people, who were welcomed to share in the bounty of the royal feast.  The Empress retired early, to remove Imperial Protocol restrictions and allow the young people to have a fun time at their reception.  Dame Ontiveros accompanied Her Imperial Majesty back to the residence.  Meanwhile, the people of Eveari welcomed their adopted Carolina and congratulated her on her marriage.  Wine flowed freely, and a good time was had by all, with a constant stream of well-wishers, and supplicants visiting the new couple at their table.  The Crown Princess and Prince Consort had the first dance, and then were joined by the guests.

Her Highness the Crown Princess and His Excellency, the new Mr Ananto-Sandoval retired around 10pm, though, as in royal weddings in the past, the party continued on well into the night.  The following morning, in a brief ceremony, Mr. Ananto-Sandoval was named Count of Dahriel and swore an eternal oath to the Crown of the Anantonese Empire.  By noon, the newlyweds had departed Kaliburg for their honeymoon in Gaduridos, where they will spend five weeks at the home of Mark Ananto-Orleans, and then will fly to Kundrati for a week to reopen Ananto House, where they expect to celebrate the New Year before returning to Kalistan.

First KaliMetro Line opens on Mall

The Kundrati designed Subway system, dubbed KaliMetro, is now operating from Imperial City to Port Davon.  This line will eventually extend to Gallo and the National Sports Complex.  The Lime Line is destined to become one of the more well travelled lines in the Metro system, but for now, it has been operating only for a few days.

The Inaugural trip was taken by Her Highness, the Crown Princess Carolina Ananto-Hulanevek and The Lord Count William Ananto-Sandoval.  They boarded the KaliMetro in Imperial City, and took passage all the way to Port Davon.  "The two royals returned from their honeymoon in Kundrati in time to be on hand for the opening of the line," said newly appointed KaliMetro Chief Operating Officer Victor Thomas.  "Her Highness has been overseeing the construction of this line since its inception, and I believe she wouldn't have missed the first trip for the world."  The trip took less than 25 minutes from Imperial City to the Port, which is about a 12 minute savings on car and 20 minute savings on bus transit.

"We are thrilled to inaugurate the KaliMetro Line," said Her Highness the Crown Princess.  "Her Imperial Majesty, the Empress Pavlina I Ananto considers the efforts of these dilligent and hard working men to be one of her greatest achievements, as it brings our fair capital to equity with modern cities across Terra!  We thank our friends from Kundrati for their work on behalf of the Empress and our Empire, and we honor the Service of the Conscripts from the Kaliburg Brigade of the Ananto Corps for their hard works and excellent craftsmanship.  The ride was smooth, swift, and without incident, and will be a great service to our people."

The Green Line will begin regular service on January 31st.  Kaliburg Station, on the Mall, will open to the public and will not only be a multi level passenger platform where the Lime and Plum Lines intersect, but will also have basic service ships and convenience food sellers there for commuters on the go.  There will also be a Cambio and a tour service for those tourists who wish to visit the Imperial Mall complex downtown.

Long Live Her Imperial Majesty the Empress Carolina I Ananto

The reign of the so-called Black Empress, Her Highness, Princess of the Empire Pavlina I Ananto-Hulanevek was cut short this week following a dramatic, but not entirely unanticipated medical emergency that rendered her unconscious for three days.  The now former Empress suffered a fairly significant stroke, which her doctors have informed the Press, is a symptom of her progressive Alzheimer's' disease.  When she awoke from the medical coma that doctors induced to save her life, the former Empress called for her daughter and her Foreign Minister, Dame Jacqueline DuMont and informed said simply, "It is time, friends."  That statement set wheels in motion that have been in preparation for more than three years.  An emergency bill, drafted and on hold in the National Assembly by the Princess of the Empire herself, was laid on the floor and received a quick unanimous vote from the Institutional Party.  The Bill recognized Pavlina's abdication and acknowledged Carolina's Accession to the throne.

"The Bill was prepared because it is well known in the Kalistani Government that the Black Empress has been suffering from this condition for years," said Crown Watcher Diane Melton,  "and so all has been prepared in advance to ensure continuity of sovereignty from Mother to Daughter.  The situation is fairly standard, and follows Kalistani tradition for a sitting monarch to retire:  We have many historical examples of this, and while Pavlina's Abdication may be medically related, rather than just a desire to live out her golden years having done her duty for the Empire, the process itself is no different."

All of Her Highness' titles have been passed to the new Empress, and the former Empress has been given the emeritus title of Princess of the Empire.  Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Carolina I Ananto has formally reconfirmed His Highness Prince Consort William Ananto-Sandoval in that role, and has also reconfirmed his Administration over Dah.  Her Highness Princess Pavlina Ananto-Hulanevek has opted to restore her last name Hulanevek as a hyphenated name, while Her Imperial Majesty the Empress Carolina I Ananto loses hers.  "She was born as a Hulanevek, and clearly seeks to die as one," said Melton, a gesture which is seen by some as a nod toward Kundrati.

The Coronation ceremony was a small affair at Eveari Monthly Meetinghouse.  Only high ranking Government officials, a few close friends, the Prince Consort and members of the Eveari Meeting were present.  Following a regular Brethrenist Meeting for Worship, the Clerk invited Carolina to rise, and then asked Sir Bradley Downs, who is Institutional Party Speaker, and acting Chancellor of the Empire, to present the Empress' Crown to Her Imperial Majesty, the Empress, who took it from him and placed it on her own head.  She spoke the following words, "By the Consent of the People, We accept their admonishment to rule them with Justice, Integrity, and Grace, to protect their Civil and Human Rights, and to Defend the Empire and the Anantonese People to our last breath."  The solemn ceremony thus being over, Her Imperial Majesty returned with the Prince Consort to the Eveari General Hospital to help prepare Her Highness Princess Pavlina for transport to Kaliburg, where she will continue her treatment.  

Following their return to Kaliburg, Her Imperial Majesty took some time to pose for portraits with the Crown Jewels, which are locked safely in the vault under the Imperial Seat.  The Crown, which is a custom made Gold Crown crusted with Diamonds, Rubies, Emeralds and Amethysts, was stunning on the head of Her Imperial Majesty, but what was more intriguing was the single white gem she wore upon her breast in a cross shaped medallion. The source of such a gemstone is unknown, but jewelry have argued that it is between 105 and 110 Carats, and brilliantly multifaceted.  "That single diamond cut is atypical in Kalistan," said Melton.  "It is an oval shape, which itself is unusual, as most gemstones in Kalistan, like those affixed to Her Imperial Majesty's gown or crown, are oval in shape.  It is truly one of a kind, and certainly has never been on display in Kalistan before."  

The Crown is rarely worn in Kalistan, as Brethrenists rarely wear jewelry in public, and certainly never gaudy or excessive jewelry, as Brethrenists oppose "ostentatious displays of wealth or status."  The Official Portrait is one exception to that rule, given that the Crown Jewels represent the Empire.  "In wearing them for the official portrait," said Melton, "Her Imperial Majesty is showing off Kalistan to the world, rather than showing off herself or her wealth to anyone.  She is saying 'Kalistan is a land of bounty and plenty.  Admire as you please.'  Her Imperial Majesty is a Convinced Friend, and will likely never wear more than earrings, her wedding band and a simple gold chain if she wears jewelry at all, but in this regard, the Official Portrait is not about her.  It is about her role as the physical embodiment of the Anantonese State and the Anantonese People."  House Ananto is the single wealthiest entity in all of Kalistan, and all of that wealth belongs, as such to Her Imperial Majesty.  "She doesn't need to brag," said Melton.  "As a Brethrenist, she prefers simplicity and stewardship."

Now that Her Imperial Majesty is crowned, some changes in foreign policy are expected.  Kalistan is likely to try to re-build its relationships with Artanian nations.  "The overture by the Luthorian Government, small though it is, was meaningful," said Melton.  "Kalistan will likely issue the equivalent of a reset in relations with Artanian Nations, provided those nations mind Kalistan's interests in Northern Seleya."  Kalistan will also continue to deepen the Anantonese Security regime with Gaduridos, Lodamun and Lourenne.  "She may be interested in returning Kalistani troops currently stationed in Majatra back to Kalistan," said Melton.  "But her position on Majatra is unclear at this moment."  

Domestically, Her Imperial Majesty will have to hand over Operations Control for the growing KaliMetro to other CEOs, and will need to name another Chancellor soon.  "She may want to do more things," said Melton.  "Her Imperial Majesty is known for her penchants for civil engineering.  She may decide that a new Palace needs to be build at Wilson Hill, keeping the aging Wilson House, which is her current residence, as a cottage of sorts.  Her Imperial Majesty also has important meetings with ODEN coming up, and a summit of NAM is beginning to form in the Foreign Ministry.  It will be a busy start to her reign, but she hits the ground running, due to the diligence and preparedness of her Mother."

Pavlina meanwhile, is lucid and was said to have listened to FOMAT on the Internet, but her Alzheimer's Disease continues to progress.  "She is forgetting more and more things these days, and is beginning to forget peoples' names," said Melton.  "She also occasionally relives scenarios from her youth, and while she is fully there in her mind, she is not present in the real world.  She asks a lot for the Emperor.  It's quite sad, but now was probably the best time for her to hand over power to her daughter, while she is still lucid for at least half a day."  Her friends and family remain at her bedside during visiting hours, and she knows she is loved and cared for.  The Princess of the Empire is a mere 62 years old, but her prognosis is not good.  "It is expected that the Princess will die within 5 years," said Melton.  "This is public information, but those around her seek to make the time they have left with her quality time."  When she begins forgetting her own daughter's name, said Melton, she has expressed her desire to be sedated and allowed to expire.  Her Imperial Majesty has already promised her mother that she would carry out her mother's wishes.

For now, the Anantonese Empire has a new Empress.  Long Live Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Carolina I Ananto!

Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Carolina I Ananto, gave her first address to the National Assembly of Deputies in Kaliburg.  She was invited to speak by the acting Chancellor of the Empire, Sir Bradley Downs, who is in his position by virtue of his role in Party Leadership.  Her Imperial Majesty's speech was something akin to a State of the Empire speech occasionally delivered by Her Highness, Princess of the Empire Pavlina Ananto-Hulanevek, when she was Empress.  Below are Her Imperial Majesty's Remarks:

We wish to thank the Chancellor for his invitation to address this august body.  It is our desire to get to know and work with you all over the next year.

First we would like to ask Mr. Downs to form a new Government.  Our Foreign Minister and long serving Defense Minister, who both served our Mother, have expressed a desire to retire from their offices, and we have decided that Mr. Downs will serve us as our permanent Chancellor of the Empire.  We would like to ensure that our Government remains committed to deepening Gaduri integration as an Imperial Policy, as well as continuing to strengthen ties to Andalay and Athosia.  The door to accession is open for all of the Crownlands, and we wish to reiterate the policy that they shall be welcomed to join the Empire on the same terms that the Kingdom of Gaduridos did.

The Anantonese Empire will maintain our naval positions in both the Anantonese and the Mad Dog Oceans.  Those positions are key to our on-going defense in depth strategy.  We wish to continue to strengthen the Anantonese Security Community, and deepen our intelligence gathering and sharing capabilities as well as our security cooperation.  We have asked our Minister of Finance to increase the budget of both the ISCA and the IBSI for the purposes of creating new intelligence assets, both on the ground, in the air and in space.  One of the initiatives we have asked the the ISCA to work on is a geo-positioning system, which will allow the Empire to independently provide GPS services to both the Empire's consumers and businesses and our naval and air assets on the seas.

We have commanded our Minister of Defense to begin winding down our military mission in Wrnuke.  Currently, there is one Division of Regular Infantry and one Division of Regular Artillery stationed in the Majatran sand.  They were there as part of a military exchange that permitted the Jelbic Navy to refuel in Port Swedes, Vrassa.  As we draw down our Majatran involvement and return our Regulars to Kalistan, we will be reviewing the Jelbic privileges at Port Swedes, to ensure that they conform to the Anantonese Security Community's provisions.  The Kingdom of Wrnuke has noted their antipathy for two of the four members of that treaty organization, and we may need to adjust our own position vis a vis Wrnuke.  There does not seem to be much reason for Wrnuke to maintain a presence in the Anantonese, as the Anantonese Ocean is not a source of threat to the Majatran Empire and is perfectly secure either way, especially if Weil considers the United Kingdom or our partners in Lodamun to be their adversaries.  It would behoove the Jelbic Empire to resolve their outstanding disagreements with Eroncourt and Kensington, to the satisfaction of all concerned over the next year as we review our standing agreement with Wrnuke.

As we draw down our commitments in and with Majatra, we would like to build on some initial successes with Artanian Nations.  The visit from the Personal Secretary of the Empress of Luthori at our wedding ceremony was most welcomed and is an opening that builds upon the agreement that our two nations reached around the Embargo--we hope toexpand friendly relations with Luthori.  We have also had the opportunity to begin to repair relations with the Kundratis, both around their willingness to serve as mediators in the Embargo crisis, as well as their willingness to help Kalistan to inaugurate the program which is near and dear to our heart, the Kaliburg Metro System.  We welcome news from the Dual Republic that a Kalistani National from Suldanor is working with them to help develop their entertainment services industry, and we also have word from Dundorf that there is interest in a long term and formal cultural exchange through exchange student programs.  In all, the attitude of Artanian nations with regard to Kalistan has significantly shifted in recent years, and we wish to encourage that by offering a fresh start to those nations who were of late major adversaries of the Anantonese Empire.  We believe we have done much to make our positions clear on a host of issues, and we believe that there is evidence that those positions are respected in the world.

Domestically, we would like to work closely with Gaduridos to continue to invest into their economy.  We would give a world of encouragement to our Gaduri friends, and encourage them to continue their right minded policy of social welfare along with economy development.  If we may say a word for their tax policy, increasing taxes when you need to increase revenue is no sin.  Gaduridos' currency is pegged, unfortunately to the LFR which unfortunately limits their ability to manage their economy through monetary policy.  This may be a handicap, but it does not cripple them.  The Government must do what it can to raise its funds to support its social programs.  The Imperial Government will happily be of service to help our Realm carry its social spending burden:  Not only will it allow Gaduridos to better meet the needs of its people, but it will also pump badly needed Ruble currency into Gaduri pockets.  It is an unfortunate fact that increased corporate taxes are merely a backdoor sales tax.  Our Government looks forward to the opportunity to assist with improvement of the quality of Gaduri Life.

Within the Grand Duchy of Kalistan, we look forward to continuing housing renewal.  In the Free City of Sulari, more than 8 thousand single family homes which were dilapidated and condemned have been demolished and those houses have been replace by more than 35,000 housing units.  The neighborhood revitalization comes with specific tax zones that offer abatement for services and small businesses to move into these neighborhood to provide residents of the revitalized neighborhoods with shopping, dining, nightlife and all other services, as well as additional access to public transit and other public services.    Our revitalization programs are operating on the sustainable development model of vertical city development.  And those efforts are being carried out across Kalistani Proper.  We are very proud of our National Service program, and look forward to excellent work by the Imperial Housing Authority in Kalistan.

Within Ananto, we are continuing to encourage settlement of the Gold Plains.  Settlement of the Eastern Half of our Island will help relieve population pressures in our Capital, which is today over crowded and more expensive than it should be for working Anantonese Families.  Unlike Kalistan Proper, Ananto doesn't have much affordable housing, because space and supply seems to be at a premium.  It is our desire to bring housing prices down within five years, all the while increasing housing stock on the Island.  Additionally, we will continue to watch the expansion of the KaliMetro system, and would like to welcome Ms. Annie Carson as our new Chief Executive Officer of the KaliMetro.

We look to build on the successes that our Mother accomplished, in these areas and more.  We appreciate your support for our Crown, and will, in the coming weeks and months, encourage you, Your Deputies, and the people you represent, to give of your time and effort for the betterment of our Empire.  We thank you for your indulgence, and our care for our mother, as she continues to decline, and we pray that you will hold us in the light as she slowly slips away from us.

We command that Mr. Downs adjourn this body, so that Deputies may better discuss the things we have said tonight.

With that, Her Imperial Majesty stepped down from the Dias, and exited the Assembly Chamber, as those Deputies who lined the aisle that she left by bowed low, as those in back, especially the photographers, stood on their tip toes to see her pass by.

Kalistani Promoter Edwin Bob to open third club in Dual Republic

Kalistani Club promoter and Socialite Edwin Bob is on the verge of opening his third club, this time on the extremely permissive party spot on Jorgen Island  The new club, tentatively called "Sin" is third joint venture between Bob's management company, Pleasure West, and Narikaton investors, and will join his other two clubs in the Capital, Club Middernacht and High Life, which were both opened in the last two years.

"I'll tell you what," said Bob in a recent interview.  "These Nariks love money!  And they are making it hand over fist in these clubs.  Its like the people have bottomless pockets.  This kind of unbridled capitalism is something we don't have back home, and it can be almost as addicting as any drug you can think of, if you are in the right place to be able to take advantage of it."  Bob happens to benefit from special considerations from the Narikaton Government that are designed and protect investments in the country, and as a result, his two current clubs are among the most, interesting spots in the Capital at 2am on any given morning.

"We've benefitted a lot from N&D's willingness to promote our particular sector," said Bob.  "We pay for our privileges, for certain, but those privileges also allow us to provide the people of Bannerhafen a superior sensory experience that gives them memories that they will never forget, or more likely, never remember."  Bob's two clubs have become focal points for Bannerhafen's underground queer community, who feel welcomed to come and party along with Bannerhafen's straights.  "We make it clear that people need to leave their prejudices at the door, and respect everyone regardless of anything.  We love love and peace here in Bannerhafen, and its all about epicureanism and the Good Life here."  Club Middernacht tends to do more to promote queer patronage, with weekly drag shows in the evening, and a less strict dress code.  Meanwhile, High Life focuses on the Party and tends to feature live music more often.

The third club that Bob and his Narik investment partners are planning will be opened on Jorgen Island, the Dual Republic's Pleasure spot with far more permissive laws.  "Kalistan has some pretty sleazy clubs," said Bob.  "There are a lot of RF clubs in particular, both in the Capital and in Sulari, which have extremely lax laws about, shall we say, public displays of affection.  A lot of that is fueled by drugs and music, but it is a safe place where people who are either into that or want to see it can go and just be part of a like, uh, like a public orgy some nights...  I mean to say, you never know what, or who you will run into in those clubs, and the rules state that what happens there stays there:  It challenges a lot of couple's jealousy responses, let's just say that.  But there's not really anything wild like that here in the Dual Republic, except perhaps on Jorgen Island.  I think we want to bring maybe a taste of that, maybe not the full blown experience, but just a touch to N&D, because I believe people go to Jorgen have an appetite for that too."

Sin is expected to be a topless bar, and would be considered "clothing optional".  "We don't have clothing optional clubs in Kalistan, I mean, there are no nudist clubs in the Empire because there's no specificly 'nudists'.  Nudism isn't really a thing:  nobody cares, you see nude people every day in Kalistan, on the beaches, in the parks, at concerts whatever... on tv?  Whatever.  So that wouldn't be a huge draw back home.  But I think there is still something a little taboo about public nudity here in Narikaton, and I think there is a market for people who want to experience that." Bob also noted that compared to Kalistan standards, N&D's Sin will be very modest. "Like Sunday School compared to back home," said Bob. "Not to say that it can't be as wild. Just that, knowing the folks in this country, it probably won't be."

But Bob also noted that nudism won't be the club's theme.  "We just want to say, kinda, anything goes.  We want to focus on creating an entertainment resort in Jorgen, where people can go and imbibe all the liquor, do a lot of drugs and have a great time.  It's about escapism.  It's about letting your hair down and maybe pushing boundaries and exposing yourself to something you may not have ever experienced before.  It is also catered to not only locals, but visitors from other countries- there are a lot of tourist francs left sitting on the table in Jorgen, and this club aims to join the developing scene there in mopping up more of those tourist francs while attracting new ones."

The Club will also open to a private beach situated on 14 acres of land, where club goers can take an excellent supper before getting into the festivities in the sea breezes of Jorgen Island.  "Excellent food is itself part of the sensory experience," said Bob.  "We have a professional cook staff hired, including four 4-star Chefs who have run kitchens internationally. There are other amenities that go beyond what you think of as a normal nightclub: For example, we have several hot tubs that can seat up to 15 each on site, along with saunas and sweat baths.  Who knows what people will get up to in there, but we see Sin as more like a Spa with a night club attached, than a nightclub.  Anything can happen in a permissive environment that caters to those with lots of money to spend."

Bob was also sure to note that security in such a club needs to be paid specific attention to.  "Well, people have fun, and we encourage them to push boundaries, of course.  But the goal is not to see people hurt or violated.  Kalistan has to pay special attention to situations where some activities may not feel comfortable to all club participants.  And we want to establish those same protocols in N&D because the goal is fun, and pleasure of the senses.  And in such an environment, we need to make sure everyone is comfortable with what is going on around them."

Besides the opening of the new club, Bob has announced that Marcus Carrangus Jr. will be accepting a 16 month residency at High Life in Bannerhafen.  His decade long career in Kalistan is still going strong, but he said he would find the opportunity to play for an extended period of time in Narikaton and Darnussia a great chance to try new things.  "Marcus is a great addition to High Life," said Bob.  "His shows have a depth and versatility to them which few other artists have.  He has moved on from a lot of the psychedelic things he used to do to play a lot of hard rock, funk and poprock.  He will still play some of the older stuff, but his newer music is certainly more diverse and caters to a larger audience, and we think he will be a good draw for patrons."  The addition of Carrangus is not uncharacteristic of High Life, which plays a mix between dance music and rock, soul, R&B and Hiphop.  "We have a lot of Kalistani RF and Narik's growing DJ circuit," said Bob.  "But we also cater to those who want live and loud music, and some of the best concerts in the last year have been held at High Life's main stage."  Several Kalistani bands and singers have already been to the Dual Republic, and High Life has always been a stop on their tours.

To date, it is estimated that over his time in the Dual Republic, the two clubs opened and managed by Bob have earned N&D combined more than ₭55 million Rubles in profit, with more than ₭360 million in total revenues. Bob himself has earned 10 percent of that profit, even as he continues to invest in new ventures. "Not bad I'd say for a man with a dream. I'll fully recoup my investments in about 3 more years, and ten it will be all gravy. I would love to stay as long as I can because this place is a money factory."

Her Imperial Majesty at Tea; Will look to increase uses of Informal Audiences

It's been just over six months since Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Carolina I Ananto was crowned.  In this space of time, she has demonstrated skill in managing a smooth transition, has put forth an internally and externally consistent foreign policy, and has ensured that the ship of state remains on an even keel.  But what do we really know about the new Monarch?

On the question of biography, Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Carolina I Ananto was born April 16, 5546 in Kundrati.  The name of her biological mother died in childbirth, and her biological father had previously abandoned them, and was unable to be located later.  The infant was cared for at the hospital before being placed with a foster family, where Pavlina Hulanevek who was, at the time, a lawyer for the Etxean Bank in Kundrati, met her.  After several months, Pavlina adopted the infant as her own daughter, and began to raise her as a little family.

When Pavlina was introduced to Emperor Fredrick I Ananto in Likatonia, the young Carolina was a mere five years old.  The courtship ended in marriage, and Carolina and Pavlina moved to Kalistan when she was six.  The Emperor doted on the little girl and indulged both her and her mother in every way.  Carolina learned Vrassan very quickly, and, due to Pavlina's interest in speaking Vrassan in the house, Carolina soon lost her native Lurrian.  She still can read it fairly successfully, but can no longer speak it with any fluency or confidence.  Instead, she now speaks Vrassan, Egelian, and Canrillaise, and can manage a measure of Dundorfian.  Carolina was officially adopted by Emperor Fredrick I Ananto in 5557, when she was 11, and was named Crown Princess as her mother became Empress of Ananto and Kalistan to provide them protection of Lese Majestie.

The rebellion and the family's sojourn in Gaduridos threatened to interrupt her education at an early age, but when she returned to Kalistan, she threw herself back into her studies with gusto, and soon became interested in mechanics and physics.  In high school, Carolina took courses in politics, philosophy and music, but was far more interested in auto shop and math classes.  She intended to follow her adopted father, Fredrick Ananto, into automechanics.  But when she entered National Service following High School Graduation, the Crown Princess was tracked into Civil Engineering instead, because her aptitude and needs of service suggested she would be a better fit as a surveyor.  During her National Service, Carolina was part of beginning a road project to connect Eveari with growing Gold Plain settlements, and has her name etched onto three separate bridges in Gold County along with other members of her NSP gang.

Following her release from National Service, Carolina attended Kaliburg Polytechnic, where she majored in Civil Engineering, but also studied economics, moral philosophy and political theory.  While in school she took an internship with a major Kalistani Civil Engineering firm to get practical experience, and that experience led to a cooperative partnership with Kundrati Engineers in planning our the Kaliburg Metro System that is currently in construction.  She also was responsible for negotiating the settlement of the Embargo crisis with Luthori, and laying a foundation for relations with Luthori and Kundrati, with whom Kalistan had long been estranged.  She began training for her administrative responsibilities immediately after leaving college and was seen by many as almost a vice empress, who could do and say things that the Empress could not.

Her road to coronation was dramatically sped up when her mother's Alzheimer's disease diagnosis was revealed.  The last three years have involved extensive training, almost to the exclusion of all else.  But the Crown Princess also had time for romance:  She began dating William Ricardo Sandoval, the head of the Ananto Growers' Syndicate, who she first met in National Service, a year before finally marrying Sandoval in November of last year.  Her Imperial Majesty was crowned this May, following the Alzheimer's related stroke that put Empress Pavlina in a coma for three days, and has already laid out her foreign policy which involves a pivot toward Anantonese partners and Artanian nations.  She inherits an Empire that includes the Kingdom of Gaduridos, a very healthy economy, and peace at home.

We have little experience with Her Imperial Majesty as a ruler to date, owing to the shortness of her term.  She has named nationalist Sir Bradley Downs, who is Speaker for the Institutional Party, and has asked him to form a new government for a new reign.  We know Her Imperial Majesty to be aligned with the Nationalist wing of the Institutional Party, similar to her mother.  This suggests that she will focus closer to home in her foreign affairs, and will look to Kalistan's interests first.  Some early evidence to support this is her apparent preference for Anantonese Nations in the slowly growing war of words between Majatra and Lourenne.  Apparently siding with Lourenne and Lodamun against long time partners, and removal of troops from Wrnuke signals that she intends to strengthen the Anantonese region against outsiders, rather than being open to outsiders coming.

Economically, Her Imperial Majesty has expressed support for the social democratic policies of the Kingdom of Gaduridos.  Under no circumstances is the Empress a socialist, but she has explicitly endorsed the cause of human rights in Kalistan, and may consider increasing some measure of democracy in Kalistan.  That would be the dream of liberals, who have been calling for years for more democracy.  But it is also just as likely that the Empress will maintain the current absolutist, autocratic institutional stance, and will instead refer others to Gaduridos for democracy.

There are a lot of question marks about this one.  The one thing that most watchers can say is that The Empress Carolina's youth, beauty and willingness to wear bright colors marks a difference in demeanor with Princess of the Empire Pavlina, one which is optimistic and forward looking.  Pavlina's reign was marked by mourning and pique.  Her Imperial Majesty, at least outwardly, does not display the maudlin, but appears to be very serious, very intellectually curious, and more importantly willing to smile.

The most encouraging aspect of Her Imperial Majesty's new reign:  She has used Informal Audiences more in the past six months that Pavlina utilized within the last ten years, and appears to conduct business and obtain information through Teas, as opposed to the formal audience setting preferred by her mother.  This development is welcoming to most of the peerage, as well as various ideological factions, who see it as increased access to the Empress.

Carolina's upcoming reign is expected to not be boring, at any rate.  Her history, interests and skills all suggest that she, like her mother, will be very influential on the history of Kalistan.

New Imperial Currency issued
Her Imperial Majesty has approved designs for new Imperial currency to replace the long used Kalistani Ruble, which was a relic itself from Kalistan's Republican past.  The measure was approved by Her Imperial Majesty after it was revealed that the Kalistani ₭20 bill was among the most counterfeited bill in Terra, leading to higher than normal costs for capital control and enforcement.  "For a currency that is as tightly controlled as the Kalistani Ruble was, year after year we saw higher than expected amounts of Rubles returned through the Bank" said Lucas Reed, of the Ministry of Finance, Treasury Department.  "Last year, the Central Bank destroyed more than ₭43 million in counterfeit bills that came through processing, about 45% of them Kalistani 20s.  A redesign has been long overdue and now technology makes it possible to create notes that are significantly more difficult to reproduce.  It is our hope that clamping down on counterfeiting will reduce costs of maintaining the currency in Kalistan and will lead to additional follow on savings in other areas." 

The New Currency, issued and backed by the Ministry of Finance, is currently being exchanged on a 1:1 Basis by the Central Bank for all deposits, which can be withdrawn in Imperial Currency, and is legal to use across Kalistan as of last year.  The Old Currency will continue to be redeemed at 1:1 until December 31, 5584, when it will no longer be accepted by the Central Bank for deposits, and will become worthless.  All foreign holders of Kalistani Currency will be able to redeem older currency 1:1 at the Central Bank or one of its foreign cambios until December 31 5580, after which point ratio will drop from 1 Imperial to ₭1 to 1Imperial to ₭2, which represents a significant discount for the Empire, and a hopefully encourages foreign holders to trade the old sums in for the new bills sooner than later.  Those with electronic holdings will be automatically converted at no cost to them.

The new currency is brightly colored, and features a number of new security measures to prevent counterfeit.  In addition to intricate designs, the bills uses special fabric based paper, as opposed to standard currency paper, and contains watermarks that can be seen when held up to the light, ultraviolet coloration that reveal the currency's valuation under a black light, and a security inlay that can be both scanned under a RF-ID reader to reveal the authenticity of the bill as well as felt by those taking the bills.  On the 20, the 50, and the 100, there is actually 20k gold leaf inlaid in the currency, which, while not worth much in and of itself, will make counterfeiting those bills large scale very expensive to counterfeiters.  "Another feature is that the bills are all slightly different sizes," said Reed.  "It makes creating a template for large scale counterfeiting operations a lot more expensive, and counterfeits become a lot easier to spot if the money is a strange size."    

The designs were produced by professional artists in each of Kalistan's Free Cities, and feature famous political and cultural features. 
*  The Imperial One features a photo of Socialist Premier Omar Al-Khali, whose Administration kicked off the Kalistan's Age of Affluence, when Kalistan finally became a major regional power and a cultural force in Seleya, while the reverse shows poppy fields in Odufaray in the late afternoon. 
*  The Imperial 5 has a portrait of Jonas Bennots-Plum, who is considered to be the founder of Kalistani New Branch Brethrenism, which is the predominant brand of Brethrenism now practiced in Terra, while the reverse features a creative rendition of a street scene in Old Davon. 
*  The Imperial 10 features a photo of Jennifer Stepanov, who won FOMAT in Vascania, and is considered to be one of the greatest Kalistani songwriters, while the reverse features an artist's rendering of the Upper Zappa River Valley in Ananto. 
*  The Imperial 20 features a portrait of Socialist President Poppy Smith Bennots, who died in the defense of Ananto when the island was invaded by Indrala in the 3980s, and the reverse is a view of coastal Dulnerstaad, with their famous sea otters featured. 
*  The Imperial 50 contains a portrait of Emperor William I Ananto, whose reign was peaceful, but was the last Emperor before the Republican interregnum, with the back showing the impressive skyline of downtown Sulari, along with a small part of Port Elga in the foreground. 
*  The Imperial 100 Contains a portrait of Empress Nicolette I Ananto, considered The Great, with the reverse showing the Wilson Point Bridge that connects Wilson Point with Imperial City in Kaliburg and spans the entrance to Davon Bay.

New Government Named
Her Imperial Majesty has approved a new list of Ministers for the Government of the Anantonese Empire.  The bill will be put to the National Assembly for final passage.  The new Government, helmed by Her Imperial Majesty's Chancellor of the Empire, Sir Bradley Downs, includes, for the first time, Gaduri Nationals who represent Gaduri constituencies in the National Assembly.  "We re-districted last year to include additional seats for 10 Gaduri at large Assemblymembers," said the Chancellor.  "The Official bill to enlarge the Assembly comes with this bill, and the at large Gaduris, two from each Duchy will have full voting privileges.  The only requirement is that they join the Institutional Party, and faithfully represent the interests of their respective constituencies."  This act does not affect the action of Gaduri's Government or legislature in anyway, and in fact, Gaduris are forbidden to be seated in both legislatures.  "It is a way to ensure that there are Gaduri voices at the table as well, and that Gaduri Interests are fairly represented by Gaduri Nationals themselves.  And we wanted to also bring them into Government to demonstrate our commitment to Gaduri integration."  New faces include Marian Jones, the incoming Minister of Finance, who has already gone to work and was key to spearheading the new Currency Program, and Dr. Dena Alonzo, who has to date headed the Imperial Space and Communications Agency.  The new Government will meet with Her Imperial Majesty next month.

Incoming Minister of Defense, Captain Jessica Miller officially confirmed Kalistan's acknowledgement of Lodamese Missile testing in the Karzon Strait.  "We thank the government of Lodamun for being willing to work with the Kalistani 4th Fleet over the missle tests.  Their early warning allowed us to shift our operations to both avoid the impact areas, and to coordinate with the Lodamese Navy to keep both military and civilian traffic safe through the Strait."  The Captain said that Kalistan recognizes that Lodamun plays a key role in Continental defense against modern weaponry that may be aimed at Seleya.  "The proliferation of missile technology in the world is troubling," said Captain Miller.  "But Lodamun's development and testing of defensive anti-missile missiles is a welcome development, should other nations wish to aime their weapons at Northern Seleya.  The Guardian Missile system that the Lodamese are developing will play a major role in Continental security, and Kalistan looks forward to seeing what Lodamun does with that weapons system." 

Captain Miller confirmed that Kalistan did not have a role in the Missle tests.  "No, Kalistan did not participate directly.  We were able to coordinate with the Lodamese Government in helping to direct civilian traffic to safe channels during the test, and served enthusiastically in an indirect, peacekeeping role to ensure that Lodamun could conduct its test successfully while keeping bystanders and merchant traffic safely out of harm's way."  The Captain reiterated that Kalistan's own rocket program will not produce missiles for military application.  "Lodamun can develop its missiles--in this they are not different from nations like Lourenne or Beiteynu, who have their own missle programs.  There is no difference we can see there.  As for Kalistan, we are content to launch satellites," said the Captain.
