Election Season in New Englia; SDWP leads in polls whilst CNP and SPP warn caution.
------------------------- May 17th, 5622 ------------------------- Election season has come upon our fair land and a plethora of parties have begun their bid to secure a chunk of Parliament and form a government. With the incumbent party entering decline, it is likely that they won't make it to Parliament by the end of the year. As such, various parties have begun campaigning, looking to make their mark. So far, however, the Social Democratic Worker's Party is making plenty of ground across the country, being lead by the charismatic Gabriel Rogers, advocating for proper reconciliation between the Inglians, and the Kilani. Alongside that, Rogers has campaigned strongly on creating a universal healthcare system and creating a modern social democratic economy. His opponents have come from other parties however. Whether it be the broad socialist Republican Socialist Party, the centrist Liberal Party of New Englia, the Conservative Nationalist Party or the Sovereign People's Party, he has faced considerable controversy from opponents. Most especially from the CNP and SPP. The CNP has largely focused more on his economic platform, and protecting the national identity of New Englia. The SPP on the other hand has gone so far as to call Rogers a threat to the stability of New Englia, warning of a potential Kilani take over of the country. Such rhetoric has received flak from moderates for sowing ethic tensions and trying to divide the country, but it's clear that both parties are warning of the consequences of a SDWP victory. Whether those worried are founded in reality or not, it's too early to say but so far, the polls are showing a strong lead for the SDWP. Whilst the CNP and SPP campaign in Inglian dominated communities, and the RSP campaigns in Kilani dominated communities, the SDWP and LPNE are looking to secure a multi cultural vote. However, like the SPP, the RSP remains a potential questionable party as it has strongly campaigned for Kilani representation in the government, with some members outright calling for splitting the nation and creating a Kilani state. While this has unsurprisingly, found them support from Kilani nationalists and moderates being worried, as of this moment, it appears that the SDWPs message of multi culturalism is becoming popular. ------------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

SDWP prevails in elections with slim majority; SPP refused to recognize results.
------------------------- May 19th, 5623 ------------------------- Election season has concluded and it seems those pollsters were (somewhat) right. The SDWP did make a big win, securing a majority. A slim majority. This has of course, lead to Rogers being inaugurated as Prime Minister as the hopes of a social democratic government is put to the test. With the elections going successfully, there would normally be no reason to fret. After all, the SDWP did secure a slim majority, enough to pass solid legislation but nothing radical. Except there's a handful of problems. One, the SPP. The SPP has outright refused to recognize the election results, comparing it to a Kilani coup and looking to continue sowing division within New Englia. While this has received widespread condemnation, even some hardliners of the CNP has found themselves in agreement, arguing that the election results may not have been fully transparent. While it is quite worrying that the SPP has made it their mission to divide the country, we can only hope they fail. Two, the slim majority. A 3 seat majority is hardly anything to enjoy. While the SDWP can pass moderate legislation, anything radical will have to be severely watered down, and this may even reflect the inclusive social democratic measures that the SDWP has called for, such as a form of universal healthcare, affirmative action, or expanding union protections. With a divided Parliament, a slim majority and the SPP determined to oppose any bill they view as "a threat to New Englia", the SDWP will either risk becoming a lame duck, struggle to pass any strong legislation or water down everything. These two major issues are the biggest but it's clear that it isn't smooth sailing for the SDWP. While a new government has formed, the SPP has continued to largely be a nuisance to the government. Besides vowing to block any legislation they seem hostile to New Englia, and denying the results, protests have emerged in districts that were strongly SPP. While it is obvious that the SPP is sending a strong racist message, the RSP on the other side of the aisle, being a strongly Kilani nationalist party, has been cautiously optimistic. While a few radicals have continued the fall for independence, it seems that, at least in terms of unity, both sides are cautious about the future. ------------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

Gabriel Rogers assassinated; Inglian Fatherland Front claims responsibility as RSP loses faith.
--------------------- February 6th, 5624 --------------------- Calamity and tragedy has struck New Englia as Prime Minister Gabriel Rogers of the Social Democratic Worker's Party has been assassinated just a few days ago, in Lonmouth. The late Rogers was intending to hold a rally as efforts were going to be made to push drastic healthcare reform through Parliament, and Rogers felt that securing stronger public support would ensure more MPs vote in favour of the bill. Unfortunately, during the rally, a gunman who's identity is yet to be known shot Rogers fatally. While he was rushed to a hospital quickly, he would eventually succumb to his wounds. This has lead to Mark MacGannon being sworn in as Prime Minister in a time of turmoil. While this would've been assumed as just an ideological attack, it seems that the far-right Inglian nationalist, Inglian Fatherland Front has claimed responsibility, denouncing Rogers as a traitor to the country. This has shaken public faith in stability, and shaken the faith of Kilani's sympathetic to the SDWP, such as the Republican Socialist Party, which has lost confidence in the abilities of the current government to enact proper reforms. This has left many confused, scared and worried as the IFF has presented a clear threat to stability. Prime Minister MacGannon has sworn to dismantle the IFF but it's clear that he lacks the charisma Rogers had, with moderates in the CNP and the entirety of the SPP denouncing the claim, believing that it'll only incite further violence or even be a Kilani led attack on Inglians. The RSP in turn has denounced those claims from the right, claiming that if the government fails to deliver justice, then the Kilani must do so themselves, even if it involves militancy. This of course has lead to many questioning the stability of the country as while it mourns Rogers, it also is full of fear as many simply want stability and reform. Whatever the case, troublesome times are looming and depending on how MacGannon handles the IFF, and the rising tensions, they may escalate or dissolve. --------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

State of Emergency declared as the government cracks down on the IFF amidst Kilani protests; Extremism on the rise.
------------------- August 2nd, 5624 ------------------- ![]() The assassination of Rogers has left New Englia in turmoil. When MacGannon announced he would crack down hard on the IFF, which claimed responsibility for the assassination of Rogers, Inglian nationalists recoiled against it. After months of slow downs and efforts to crack down his normal means, MacGannon has declared a state of emergency, looking to curb the IFF through harsh means. Unfortunately this has had the unintended effect of not just radicalizing Inglians but also Kilani. In the aftermath of the assassination of Rogers, many Kilani took to the streets, demanding justice and outright Independence. The death of Rogers shattered any faith in the government, and it's abilities to enact reforms. The RSP itself has walked out of parliament ever since the death of Rogers and the inability to bring inclusive reforms. The declaration of a state of emergency has been the final straw, as militants have formed the Kilani Liberation Front, looking to create a Kilani led state. And with the IFF being cracked down on, and the looming threat of the KLF, more militant Inglian communities have looked to the newly formed Inglian Defense Force, with the goal of combating police forced and certainly the KLF. Whatever the case, New Englia is in troublesome times as both the Kilani and Inglian relations have plummeted to their lowest, and faith in the MacGannon government has completely shattered. Whether stability will be restored or not is anyone's guess, but we can only hope for peace and calm. ------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

Terrorism across New Englia; KLF and IDF clash as Government forces are caught in the middle
--------------------------- May 3rd, 5626 --------------------------- Troublesome times have emerged in New Englia as terrorism continues to rise, defining the MacGannon Government. As if the political fallout of losing Rogers wasn't bad enough, the Kilani Liberation Front (KLF) and the Inglian Defense Force (IDF) have begun to clash across the country, threatening local stability and safety. While the state of emergency did see some good news for once, that was quickly dashed as security forces were overwhelmed. Now, across the country, whether it be from the KLF or IDF, reports of attacks on police stations or even attempts on politicians have been reported. While cities like Lonmouth have been able to avoid most of these accidents, the same can't be said for other cities. With tit for tat attacks, such as the KLF attacking IDF communities or vice versa, security forces have been stretched thin across the country as martial law has been declared in various communities. Unfortunately as if the situation couldn't get any worse, Kilani faith in the government has plummeted, as many seem to view the MacGannon Government as being systematically biased towards Inglian interests. Whether the MacGannon Government can fix things or not is anyone's guess. There are troublesome times, and many have already called these times the Years of Lead. Fitting. While New Englia isn't in a state of total civil war, as there's still some semblance of stability, it still isn't a good position for anyone in New Englia to be in. We can only continue to hope for the best. --------------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

Opening of the Coal Mines; Jobs to provide support for the government.
----------------------- November 11th, 5625 ----------------------- In the midst of these troublesome times, effort is always needed to stop the bleeding. While it would be ideal to resolve the Years of Lead immediately and force the IDF and KLF to stop fighting, that is easier said than done. As such, alternatives are needed and the first step is getting jobs rolled out. Everyone loves to get paid. And what's something armed men with rifles don't offer? Money! As such, the MacGannon Government has begun efforts to open up private and state coal mines across the country, looking to provide jobs and fight the appeal of the KLF and IDF. While it's harder to establish these jobs in KLF or IDF dominated zones, these mines will certainly go a long way in keeping popular support and giving reason to prevent the entire country from turning into a warzone. While it isn't ideal circumstances, its a start. While it is unfortunate that regions with stronger KLF and IDF skirmishing have seen economic downturn, it is hoped that something can be done for afflicted regions. For more stable regions, the MacGannon Government has made it clear that these regions must remain stable. ----------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

Chaos in rural New Englia; Opposition slams MacGannon Government for lack of action.
![]() ------------------------- August 2nd, 5626 ------------------------- Clashes between security forces, the IDF and KLF have only continued-- and worsened. Rural New Englia has experienced it the worst as clashes often becomes bloody. While coastal areas and major cities have been stabilized by security forces, rural areas are less lucky and even some cities have been turned into firefights between security forces, the KLF and the IDF. Low scale bombings, kidnappings, assassinations, these activities have shaken confidence in specific cities and in Lonmouth, confidence remains at an all time low. Parliament has slammed the MacGannon Government for not doing enough, with the LPNE demanding law and order. As opinion polls plummet for the SDWP and the MacGannon Government, Parliament has been abuzz with trying to find solutions. Security forces are clearly overstretched and negotiations are not possible. Both due to the feasibility, with it being political suicide to negotiate with secessionists, and due to no side wanting to negotiate. With daily life being disrupted in various portions of the country, something has to be done. It's likely that the MacGannon Government will resort to stronger measures to crack down on the IDF and KLF. While critics claim it'll only worsen the situation, others claim that doing nothing is already making the situation worse and that law and order must be enforced. As the state of emergency continues on, calls for martial law have only grown louder as security forces are overwhelmed. Whether it be paramilitary violence, terrorist attacks, bombings, or even just riots, security forces are stretched thin as is. Kilani communities feel that the MacGannon Government is purposely letting the IDF run free whilst Inglian communities find themselves believing that the MacGannon Government is beholden to Kilani interests only. Whatever the case, the situation is worse in rural communities as security forces have often been pushed out by the IDF or the KLF. And with the KLF and IDF launching retaliatory strikes against each other, claiming the other side is supporting terrorism, rural communities certainly have it rough. With economic confidence dropping in rural communities and barely staying afloat on the coast, it certainly is looking grim for New Englia. ------------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

Operation: Firecracker begins; Counter-Insurgency units deployed to stabilize rural New Englia as martial law is narrowly shot down in Parliament.
------------------------------- May 3rd, 5527 ------------------------------- In a surprising twist, efforts to enact martial law have failed, having been narrowly shot down in Parliament as the slim SDWP majority was able to prevent the bill from getting the necessary votes. While this has lead to accusations that the MacGannon Government is doing nothing to resolve the crisis that New Englia face, it seems that efforts are already being done. Operation Firecracker has begun with the express goal of easing tensions and reclaiming control of rural New Englia. The goal of these counter insurgency operations are to not only just reclaim control of rural New Englia from the KLF and IDF, but also ensure rural security. As such, rural security zones have been established, looking to root out and prevent the KLF and IDF from gaining a foothold in those communities. The goal is to disrupt current KLF and IDF activities, and prevent future gains for both terror groups. A delicate balance must be struck. These counter insurgency forces must minimize collateral damage as much as possible. Any collateral damage is only more propaganda for the KLF and IDF. And while martial law has been rejected, in urban areas with significant discontent, selective curfews have been authorized. Full martial law is likely to only radicalize and expand the problem. As Operation Firecracker begins, various SDWP MPs have looked to spread the idea of a national unity government in the face of this crisis, believing that presenting a unified front may be ideal. While the LPNE continues to advocate for law and order, and the CNP joins the SPP in calling for martial law, this potential national unity government may be some relief for the MacGannon Government if it can be enacted. ------------------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.

Formation of the "All-Unity Coalition"; National Unity Government formed amidst the Years of Lead as Operation Firecracker continues on.
--------------------------- November 26th, 5627 --------------------------- Operation Firecracker has continued on, and in Lonmouth, big changes have come about. As Operation Firecracker continues on with undermining the KLF and IDF, the MacGannon Government has reshuffled itself, with the formation of the "All-Unity Coalition", ranging from the openly socialist RSP to the conservative CNP, the AU Coalition has presented a united front. The formation of this united front will reduce disunity in Parliament and allow the MacGannon Government to maintain political stability during the ongoing crisis. Alongside this, it also provides some semblance of trust. After all, if the LPNE or CNP, previously strong critics of the MacGannon Government can work with MacGannon, then surely there is reason to trust the governments capabilities to resolve the crisis. While the only party excluded from the AU Coalition has been the Far-right Sovereign People's Party, the inclusion of other moderate-ish parties has shown that the MacGannon Government is determined to stabilize the situation, and resolve the crisis without dooming New Englia to instability or even a civil war. And with the political front being largely stabilized, the AU Coalition can shift it's focus on fighting the KLF and IDF, and stabilizing the economy in afflicted zones. With Operation Firecracker still ongoing, we likely won't see results yet as to whether it is successful or not, but with a united government, it means more effort can be focused on resolving the crisis and fighting both insurgencies, instead of getting into shouting matches in Parliament. --------------------------- The Public Record is a nonpartisan, independent media outlet, dedicated to rational, independent, civil discussions and reportings of events that occur within New Englia, and events that occur outside of New Englia.
