June 4630

ROMULA – The Istalian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an official statement this morning regarding the civil war that broke out in Deltaria, expressing extreme concern for the vortex of violence that has overwhelmed the country. The Istalian Government stressed that it is in constant contact with international partners to carefully monitor the evolution of the situation and evaluate the actions to be taken to avoid an escalation of the conflict.

This is the official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations:

Quote:The Istalian Government follows with extreme concern the dramatic escalation of violence in Deltaria, caused by the political and institutional crisis generated by the despotic regime of Slavko Thaller. Istalia strongly condemns the atrocities committed by the Imperial forces, which constitute clear war crimes, and reiterates its commitment to the rule of law and democracy. The unfounded accusations of an alleged international conspiracy, made by Emperor Thaller, are completely unfounded and serve only to divert attention from the very serious responsibilities of his autocratic government.

Istalia is in constant contact with its international partners to monitor the situation and assess the necessary actions to prevent further destabilization of the region. The international community must act decisively to stop the violence and ensure the restoration of democracy in Deltaria. In this context, the permanence of Slavko Thaller on the throne and the continuation of his autocratic regime will only hinder any attempt at a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Istalia will continue to support any initiative aimed at stabilizing the country and protecting the fundamental rights of the Deltarian people.

In the statement, Istalia responded firmly to the unfounded accusations launched by Emperor Thaller, who since the first hours of the conflict insinuated the existence of an international conspiracy against his government, explicitly mentioning Istalia's involvement.
In response, the Istalian Government ruled out similar insinuations, branding them as Thaller's crude and face-saving propaganda, instead attributing the very serious responsibilities for the crisis to the administration of Emperor Slavko, identifying his despotic and authoritarian regime as the primary cause of the ongoing conflict. Istalia denounced the illegality of Slavko Thaller's rise to power, whose government suffocated democratic institutions and the rule of law, leading the country into a spiral of repression and violence.

The Istalian Government reiterated its support for democracy and international law, condemning without hesitation the war crimes perpetrated by the Deltarian imperial forces. Evidence of serious human rights violations by forces loyal to the Thaller regime is emerging with increasing clarity, arousing the indignation of the international community.

The Government stated that it's carefully evaluating, together with its international partners, all the necessary measures to avoid the risk of the conflict spreading beyond the Deltarian borders. At the same time, the Istalian Government said it is ready to provide all possible support to the Deltarian population to facilitate the resolution of the crisis, stressing however that the permanence of Slavko Thaller on the throne and the continuation of his autocratic regime represent an insurmountable obstacle to any credible diplomatic initiative.

Meeting the press, Foreign Minister Bartolomeo Cignini commented on the situation by saying that:

Quote:Stability and peace in Deltaria can only be achieved through the restoration of democracy and respect for the rule of law. An autocratic and personalistic regime like that of Thaller can only be an element of further destabilization.

The Istalian Government finally reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace and security, reaffirming that it will continue to work closely with its international partners to identify the best path to resolve the conflict, without compromising on the defense of democratic principles and fundamental rights of the Deltarian people.

Saragat Government reforms foreign investments and strategic industries
The executive proceeded with a series of nationalizations and to introduce measures to safeguard national interests on the most strategic assets
[Image: 1lNio0Pl.jpg]

September 5631

ROMULA - Saragat Government has launched a far-reaching reform to regulate foreign investment in Istalia, introducing restrictions on some strategic sectors. In particular, the new regulatory framework establishes limits on the shareholdings that foreign entities can acquire in key companies, to ensure economic sovereignty and national security.
The sectors affected by these limitations include defense, energy, telecommunications, transportation and aerospace. The government's goal is to protect the country's strategic resources from hostile takeovers and external influences potentially harmful to the national interest.

In parallel the executive has reorganized the Istalian Strategic Investment Fund, an important financial lever for the country's economic development, focusing on a new fund management model based on: diversification of investments in high-yield sectors such as technology, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing, reater transparency and governance to optimize decision-making processes and collaborations with international funds to increase competitiveness and attractiveness of investments.
The aim of this reform is to ensure more efficient and profitable management of the fund, while preserving state control over strategic assets.

The railway sector has undergone a structural reorganization with the creation of the Società delle Ferrovie Nazionali Istaliane - SFNI (Istalian National Railways Company), which has absorbed three passenger transport companies operating on a national scale, born after the dissolution of the old and dilapitated National Company for the State Railways. Alongside this, the Società Infrastrutture Ferroviarie - SIF (Railway Infrastructure Company) has been established, responsible for the management and maintenance of the railway network.
This reform aims to improve the efficiency of rail transport, maintaining competition for private in the local sector to encourage innovation and quality of services.

Another major reform concerned the air transport sector, with the reorganization of the historic but indebted IstalAir into Istalian Airways as the new national flag carrier. The government decided to relaunch the sector with investments in modern fleets, improved services and a new, more economically sustainable management model.

The reform also had a significant impact on the energy sector, with the creation of Società Istaliana Nazionale Energia e Reti elettriche - SINER (Istalian National Energy and Electrical Networks Company). This new state entity will manage energy production, including the large nuclear plants under construction promoted by the previous national liberal governments, and 95% of the national electricity grid.
The government instead left the sale and distribution of energy to the free market, thus ensuring a balance between state control and competition.

Finally, the government has decided to intervene in the maritime transport sector to save the historic Hasan Aeductus World Shipping, founded in 4187 as a joint venture between the two major Istalian and Selucian marittime companies. After a period of state management to restore the accounts and restructure the company, the company will be privatized with a new name and identity: Istamar - Transport and Logistics.
This operation aims to relaunch the country's naval sector ensuring greater competitiveness and presence in international markets.

The reforms implemented by the Saragat Government, thus, mark a turning point in the economic management of the country, with a mixed approach between state intervention in strategic sectors and openness to the market in areas where competition can foster efficiency and innovation. The final objective is to ensure sustainable growth and greater economic security for Istalia in the long term.

Istalian state visit to Egelion: toward a new bilateral agreement
Alessandro V and Annalisa Saragat welcomed by King Romulo to expand trade and strengthen military cooperation. In the background the Deltarian crisis and unprecedented contacts with Kafuristan
[Image: hh2t107l.png]
Emperor Alessandro V and Minister Imperial Secretary of State Annalisa Saragat arrive in Altéa

January 5631

ALTÈA – The State Visit of Emperor Alessandro V and Minister Secretary of State Annalisa Saragat opened with a solemn welcome at the Royal Palace of Altèa, received by King Romulo in a climate of great political and diplomatic understanding. At the center of the meeting was an ambitious bilateral agreement destined to redefine the economic and strategic relations between Istalia and Egelion, with implications that go far beyond the borders of the two countries.

The bilateral treaty under negotiation aims to develop economic cooperation between the two nations, with the aim of promoting the free exchange of goods and services, breaking down customs barriers, streamlining bureaucratic procedures and harmonizing industrial standards. For Istalia, this represents a concrete opportunity for expansion, guaranteeing new commercial outlets and strategic access to sources of raw materials that are essential for the national industry.

Istalia, furthermore, expects an increase in its exports in light of the current Istalian competitiveness based on low labor costs, a phenomenon determined by a market saturated with young people looking for work. In this scenario, companies can count on a large availability of labor willing to accept low economic conditions, which allows them to reduce costs and improve productivity.
The PSD-led government, while aware of the critical issues of this model, has introduced a minimum wage and protection measures which, however, many radical left forces consider insufficient and too unbalanced in favor of companies. The Executive, however, defends its line, underlining how economic growth remains the national priority and that in the last five years, per capita income has increased by 57%, according to official data presented by the Ministry of Economy.

In addition to the economy, the visit has laid the foundations for future military cooperation between Istalia and Egelion. Joint exercises, joint development and production of new equipment and coordination of strategic defense are among the hypotheses under consideration. The two nations share the need to strengthen their response capabilities in the face of new geopolitical challenges, in a global context marked by growing tensions and regional instability. It is not excluded that Istalia aims at a future integration of nations with which similar strategic relations have already been established, such as Hutori and, according to rumors, negotiations are also underway with Kanjor, with which Istalia aims in the future to build solid relations for trade between East Majatra and South Seleya and a common area of security and strategic stability.

Also at the top of the agenda of the talks there is the civil war in Deltaria: in recent months Istalia has increased its support for anti-Thallerist forces, welcoming a Hutori task force on its territory and providing military aid to democratic militias. Although the Government and the Ministry of Defense maintain maximum confidentiality, confidential sources indicate that Istalian Intelligence is actively operating on the ground providing strategic and tactical advice to the rebel forces, preparing them especially for asymmetric and guerilla tactics to face the government regular forces.
Several episodes of sabotage against Deltarian government forces, in particular on supply lines and industrial sites, are thought to be attributable to operations coordinated by Istalia agents. The use of new-generation reconaissance and kamikaze drones developed by OTO Al-Mehara has also proven particularly effective, and the Government and Defense have decided to test them on the ground in the Deltarian theater. Despite several failed launches and operations due to malfunctions, but on the other hand we are talking about prototypes in full testing phase, the first results have been encouraging with the drones that have in fact allowed to hit several sensitive targets with precision and low costs, also collecting precious reconnaissance information. The Government could soon give the green light for the integration of these new weapon systems into the Istalian Armed Forces (OOC: source https://en.topwar.ru/261763-perspektivny...italy.html).

The geopolitical context has offered a further surprise with the change of position of Kafuristan who has publicly distanced himself from Slavko Thaller, aligning himself with the international anti-Thallerist front. A turning point that has opened an unexpected diplomatic channel between Kafuristan and Istalia, interrupted for over four decades. Despite the contacts with the government of al-Kasraj have been very limited and conducted mainly throught Hutorian channels, having been other task forces of Hutori deployed in Kafuristan too, these seems to confirm the will of the PSD to rebuild a dialogue, even hypothesizing a normalization of relations. However, there is no shortage of critical voices. The opposition denounces the ambiguity of Kafuristan, who continues to welcome members of the so-called "government in exile of the Grand Emirate of Quanzar", and recalls how the current program of restructuring of the Armed Forces was conceived precisely as a defensive function against a perceived threat from the neighboring north-west. The PSD, which has long been critical of the enormous resources dedicated to Defense, could therefore hope to gradually rebuild relations with Kafuristan in order to review Defense plans and thus redirect resources towards social and industrial programs.

The visit to Egelion, thus, is a further success for Istalian diplomacy and for an Istalia that is increasingly a protagonist on the economic and military level, aware of its role and its interests, but also of the social and moral challenges that arise from a rapidly changing world. The direction is clear: consolidate growth, strengthen alliances, and be ready on every front.

Alessandro V in Jildrati City reconfirms Istalia's solidarity with the Kundrati Union
The Emperor and the Head of Government Saragat meet President Nero who survived last year's assassination attempt: economic cooperation and defense at the center of the talks
[Image: 174vRvUl.png]
Emperor Alessandro V pays tribute at the site of the attack against the Presidential Office of last year

July 5632

JILDRATI CITY, ETXEA — A day of great political and symbolic significance took place yesterday in the capital of the Kundrati Union in Etxea, where the Emperor of the Istalians, Alessandro V, and the Minister Secretary of State Annalisa Saragat were received by President Tiberius Claudio Nero. The meeting reconfirms the solid relations between the Imperial State of Istalia and the Kundrati Union, victim of the tragic attack that shook the institutional foundations of the country.

Last year, in May, the Presidential Office was in fact hit by a violent terrorist attack, an episode that caused dozens of victims including several members of the Government Cabinet itself. President Nero, who miraculously survived the attack, returned to public life welcomed with emotion and respect by the entire country reconfirming the resolve of the Kundrati Union to continue to proudly stand against the vile and infamous Legionary Kundrati. Minister Secretary of State Saragat and His Majesty the Emperor, in the aftermate of the attack last year, had reached President Nero by telephone just a few hours after the attack, already assuring a forthcoming state visit to the country to reaffirm Istalia's support for the democratic Kundrati.

During the official meeting, Alessandro V expressed the "total and unwavering solidarity of the Istalian people towards the Kundrati Union, struck for its love of freedom and unwavering support for Democracy", thus firmly condemning the attack and the clear instigators, the totalitarian and inhuman government of the Legionary Kundrati.

During the joint press conference, the Emperor also declared:

Quote:Istalia does not tolerate and will never tolerate acts of barbarity of this kind, we stand alongside President Nero and the people of the Kundrati Union here in Etxea in this difficult but sacrosanct struggle for the freedom of an entire people. Istalia, which a decade ago emerged from the ashes of a civil war, knows well what it means to fight to restore freedom to its people and we can only reconfirm our will to remain alongside the Kundrati Union in this noble and just crusade.

In addition to political solidarity, the visit also had a strong practical implication. Sources close to the delegations speak of in-depth discussions on new economic and commercial agreements between the two nations. Although no official details have been released, the possibility of structured cooperation also in the defense field is becoming increasingly concrete.

President Nero defined the meeting as "fruitful and encouraging" underlining the importance of Istalian support as "a further fundamental pillar for the stability and security of the Kundrati Union".

The state visit concluded with a memorial ceremony for the victims of the attack, during which Alessandro V laid a wreath at the still-devastated site of the Presidential Office, amid emotional applause from the crowd.

Selucian tariffs on the Migrant Pass: Istalia protests
The Ministry of Economy is studying alternative routes: possible resumption of relations with Vanuku
[Image: 2rhW2HUl.jpg]
Minister of Economy, National Industry and Trade Gianluca Gori meeting the press

January 5634

ROMULA – The Istalian Government, through the Minister of Economy, National Industry and Trade, Gianluca Gori, who met the press yesterday moorning, expressed deep concern and firm opposition to the recent decision of the Government of Selucia to impose tariffs on the transit of commercial ships through the Migrant Pass, one of the main maritime hubs in the Western Hemisphere. The measure, according to the Minister, represents a dangerous obstacle to free international trade and risks triggering a domino effect capable of destabilizing maritime traffic throughout the region.

The Minister told the press:

Quote:Imposing tariffs on a vital hub such as the Migrant Pass means directly affecting the balance of international trade. We cannot accept that maritime transit becomes the object of political pressure. The conditions imposed by Selucia are unacceptable and are damaging not only to Istalia, but to all nations that depend on free and secure maritime trade. We sincerely hope that the Selucian government will reconsider its position.

However, if this does not happen, we do not rule out the possibility of engaging with other nations to coordinate a common response, especially here in the Sea of Lost Souls. This is a matter for the entire global trading system, not for one nation.

Already now, however, our Government is ready to protect the interests of Istalian companies: we are working on new directives for the sector and evaluating alternative routes, also with the possibility of fiscally incentivizing the routes via the east and through the Gran Canal of Vanuku.

The official statement of the Ministry, furthermore, underlined how the conditions imposed by Selucia are not very transparent and are more like a coercive lever to push neighboring countries to join an international organization clearly designed to protect the interests of its founding nations, a reference, not too veiled, to the 3Point Federation, one of the many tools deployed by the then Beiteynu government to favor its agenda of global hegemony, as many exponents of Istalian politics have always seen the organization, both under the Socialist Republic and then under the Imperial State. With the dissolution of the Beiteynese state and a significant reduction in the international activity of Narikaton & Darnussia, now it's Selucia today that seeks to expand its sphere of influence in the region exploiting the today declining organization born on the Migran Accords.

In response, in the immediate, as expressed by the Minister, the Istalian Government announced the launch of a plan to review the directives for the maritime trade sector. In particular, the possibility of "strongly advising against" the passage of Istalian ships through the Migrant Pass is being evaluated, encouraging instead longer but alternative eastern routes, and therefore encouraging the use of the passage through the Gran Canal of Vanuku. To mitigate the economic impact of such a change, the Minister, as already reported, announced that tax breaks for shipping companies are being studied, aimed at compensating for the increase in costs related to fuel consumption and longer navigation times.

Particularly significant is the opening of the Saragat Government towards Vanuku, with which Istalia has had minimal relations since the end of the Peninsula War and the fall of the communist regime. Preliminary contacts have already been initiated to ensure favorable conditions for commercial transit through the Grand Canal, now considered by many analysts to be the only real strategic alternative to the Migrant Pass.

Internal political reactions were not long in coming. While some parliamentary forces have appreciated the Government's pragmatic approach, the center-right opposition has harshly criticized the idea of re-establishing relations with a country governed by a left-wing dictatorship, calling the move an ideological surrender for the country by the Democratic Socialists who wink at similar regimes.

The government's response was not long in coming and in a note released yesterday evening, Antinori Palace responded harshly:

Quote:It is amusing that today a pragmatic approach to international relations is being contested, when for years right-wing governments have initiated dialogue and established close ties with states with governments that have very different ideological bases from our democratic system. Saragat government is simply following the same political realism that characterized the long years of Floria Monaldi's rule.

It now remains to be seen how the diplomatic negotiations will evolve and whether Selucia intends to review its position. In the meantime, the Istalian maritime industry is watching with attention, and growing concern, the future developments of the affair.

State visit of Alessandro V and Minister Saragat to Kanjor
Trade agreement and stretegic security cooperation signed between Romula and Atyr
[Image: Uoasndml.jpg]
December 5633

ATYR, KANJOR – A new page in the diplomatic and economic relations between Istalia and Kanjor was written today, on the occasion of the official visit of Emperor Alexander V to the Kanjora capital. Welcomed with full honors by the Governor General and Premier Bruno LeFebvre, the Head of the Imperial State took part in a series of bilateral meetings that led to the finalization of an important economic and trade cooperation agreement between the two nations.

The negotiations, which have developed at a rapid pace in recent weeks, are part of a broader Istalia strategy aimed at strengthening international trade and ensuring preferential conditions for certain goods and resources considered strategic. The agreement establishes a special trade regime that provides for tariff reductions, privileged channels for import-export and measures for the protection of sensitive economic sectors by both nations.

The positive climate of the negotiations was also favored by the political harmony between the two governments: the parties currently in power in Istalia and Kanjor, both social democratic parties, share a common vision on workers' rights and social protection. This led to the inclusion in the agreement of specific provisions aimed at protecting employment and welfare services in the economic sectors involved, with particular attention to the social impact of international trade.

Despite the natural historical and institutional differences, Istalia and Kanjor also share a deep cultural and spiritual affinity. In both countries, in fact, the Aurorian Church plays an important role in public and religious life. The Theognosian Rite, dominant in both societies, represents a further symbolic bridge between the two peoples. Precisely in this spirit, the Empress, a devout Aurorian, who accompanied His Majesty during the visit, reportedly expressed the desire to meet the Arch-Patriarch at Ville-de-Saint. Sources close to the delegation report that the Empress has kindly requested the Government of Kanjor to facilitate the organization of a private visit to the elderly Holy Father, taking into account the fact that Kanjor currently ensures the security of the borders and customs controls of the Holy City.

But the negotiations on the trade agreement between the two country touched also another matter and the Istalian visit also had an important geopolitical value: gioven the recent tensions with Selucia regarding the tariffs imposed for transit through the Migrant Pass, Istalia expressed its willingness to build a cooperative axis with Kanjor that can be extended to other states in the south of Selucia and the east of Majatra, with the aim of guaranteeing freedom of navigation and free passage through the south-eastern seas, which are essential for regional and global trade.

Another central point of the summit was the launch of a structured collaboration in the field of security and defense. Istalia and Kanjor agreed on the opportunity to strengthen coordination between their respective intelligence agencies, in order to increase mutual security through the exchange of strategic information and the sharing of best practices in the fight against organized crime and transnational threats.

The state visit ended with an official ceremony at the Government Palace, during which Emperor Alessandro V gave a speech marked by cooperation and brotherhood among the democratic nations of Earth.

Quote:Today's agreement represents not only a step forward for our economies but also an example of how the bonds between like-minded nations can produce shared and lasting solutions for the challenges of our time.

With this new agreement, Istalia expands its ties even more on the international scene and strengthens its role as a promoter of fair trade, strategic cooperation and a regional if not global order based on dialogue and mutual respect, although, as also recalled by Minister Secretary of State Saragat:

Quote:Respect for the dignity and fundamental freedoms of peoples by part of their own government should be the basis of any dialogue and peaceful coexistence among the nations of Terra.

Breaking News: Election 5635
PSD confirmed: Saragat will continue to lead the Government
National Congress renewed: socialists triumph but it's expected a more contested legislature with the resurgence of the PNL at the opposition and the mounting extra-parliamentary protest asking from more representation
[Image: QmVfKPHl.png]
July 5635

ROMULA – The polls have spoken: Annalisa Saragat will once again lead the Istalian government. The Democratic Socialist Party, led by her with firmness and pragmatism, has once again won the general elections, securing the majority in the National Congress with 243 seats out of 475, thus confirming the leadership of the center-left formation. But behind the reconfirmation lies a more complex signal: the decline compared to the previous elections marks a new political phase for the country that the PSD will be called upon to manage.

The PSD, which has built its electoral campaign on a strong social narrative, redistribution of income, increased taxes for the wealthiest classes and new investments in welfare programs, has once again managed to intercept the favor of large sections of the population. The middle and lower classes rewarded Saragat for the constant improvement of living standards and for a fight against inequality.

However, the success came at a price: the strongly redistributive approach fueled the fire of the opposition and in particular that of the National Liberal Party (PNL), led by the charismatic Valeriano Giunio, who channeled the discontent of businesses, professionals and the productive sectors most affected by the government's fiscal policies. With a vitriolic electoral campaign, centered on the slogan "More taxes today, poverty tomorrow", the PNL gained 144 seats, overtaking once again the Hosian Democratic Union and the Party of New Communits and establishing itself as the main opposition force.

The Hosian Democratic Union (UOD), which had been the swing vote in the past elections, stopped at 47 seats, penalized by a positioning judged by many to be too ambiguous: neither the redistributive fervor of the PSD, nor the unbridled liberalism of the PNL.

The Party of New Communists (PNC) obtained 41 seats. Despite seeing votes drained to the PSD, the PNC was able to attract a part of the more radical electorate and a significant portion of those disappointed by Sovereign Istalia (IS), a party that has been hit by a chronic internal crisis after the fall of Fratelli secretariat two years, eventually ending consumed in this electoral round.

The new composition of the National Congress, now in its fifth legislature, marks a clear simplification of the political framework. Only four parties managed to exceed the thresholds set by the instant-runoff system, generating a concentration that many observers call historic.

But not everyone applauds. Just a few hours after the results were released, spontaneous demonstrations erupted in several cities in Istalia by a constellation of extra-parliamentary movements, ecologists, local independentists, and anti-system groups, denouncing a mutilation of representation and an electoral system designed to suffocate plurality and crystallize power.

Criticisms focus not only on the effectiveness of the voting mechanism, but also on the political-institutional climate: accusations are leveled against the growing role of the Minister Secretary of State and the pressure exerted by some power apparatuses, accused of directing electoral choices through the media and bureaucratic apparatus, especially among the Armed Forces, where polarization has reached its highest degree, with only the PSD and the PNL now competing for the support of the military.

Annalisa Saragat is therefore preparing to form her second consecutive executive. The balance, however, will be more unstable: if on the one hand her leadership appears consolidated, strengthened by a personal consensus that remains high, on the other the reduction of seats and the emergence of a more compact opposition capable of presenting serious and alternative programs, let the country foresee a more contested legislature.

The next few months will be decisive, with Istalia that will observe carefully between the hope of a new season of social reforms and the fear of an institutional clash that could ignite the political debate.

SPECIAL EDITION OF 5637

Two years of the second Saragat government
Tax reform, AI, universities and strategic resources at the center of the executive agenda

ROMULA - With a series of ambitious and highly structural measures, the second government led by Annalisa Saragat continues its work of reforming the Istalian social economic landscape.

The fulcrum of the executive action was the highly progressive tax reform approved in recent weeks, which aims at a more equitable redistribution of national resources: the additional revenues will be used to finance social and cultural programs, among which the new National Fund for Education and Research stands out, strongly supported by Minister Secretary of State Saragat. The fund aims to guarantee stable and significant funding to Istalian universities, with the declared goal of transforming them into centers of excellence recognized globally.
"We want our universities to become globally recognized beacons of knowledge" the Minister Secretary of State said during the announcement, emphasizing how the fund will guarantee stable and significant resources to Istalian universities, promoting excellent research.

The government is also looking to the future with the Framework law on new information technologies and artificial intelligence, which aims to reconcile development and innovation with ethics and regulation. In addition to creating a favorable framework for investments, with the stated goal of making Istalia an international hub for innovation and AI research, the law provides for the experimental introduction of courses on AI and IT in middle and high schools, with the aim of extending them to the entire school system within three years, to form critical awareness and skills in the use of emerging technologies from the younger generations.

At the same time, new funds were allocated to AISA, the Istalian Authority for Space and Aeronautics, with the initial objective of fully reconstituting the national civil and military satellite network, in cooperation with the DIRSAD, the Department of Defense for Research and Development, to ensure the country has a proprietary constellation of satellites to strengthen communication, observation and defense capabilities. However, the funds also covered scientific research and therefore the development of preliminary plans and mission proposals for future space exploration.

Finally, with the establishment of SNPE - National Prospecting and Extraction Company and the launch of the National Plan for the Enhancement of Strategic Suitable Areas, the government has reactivated an ambitious program that had been left in the drawers since the second Monaldi executive. The objective is clear: to identify and exploit mineral resources on the national territory, reducing dependence on foreign strategic raw materials for the most advanced technological and industrial sectors.

Launched the “Folgore”, first of twelve new flagship units for the Imperial Navy
The new class of destroyers will form the backbone of the Navy alongside the Auduce-class frigates

TEREBBIA - At the historic AUDISS Leonardi facilities in Terrebbìa, in the presence of the highest civil and military authorities, the Folgore ship was officially launched, the first example of the new generation of missile destroyers of the Istalian Imperial Navy. The unit, designed to dominate the airspace in modern warfare scenarios, to operate in high-intensity contexts and in multi-domain scenarios, represents a further step in the ambitious program of Istalian naval enhancement.

The Folgore is the leader of a new class of twelve naval units that will be launched in three series within the next decade. Each vessel will be optimized for wide-area anti-aircraft warfare operations, with cutting-edge technologies designed to reduce radar, acoustic and infrared traceability, making the ship an extremely discreet platform.

The heart of the weapon system is a vertical launcher for 48 surface-to-air missiles, with provision for an additional 16. To complete the arsenal, 3 OTO Al-Mehara 72mm/62 naval guns, 2 25mm/80 guns and 8 anti-ship missiles launching systems. The electronic system includes EWS electronic warfare, anti-torpedo countermeasures, two torpedo launchers with 24 torpedoes stored, medium frequency sonar and a sophisticated radar system@ and multispectral sensors. It will carry a medium-lift anti-submarine warfare helicopter.

According to the Minister of Defense Division General Nando Artemisi:

Quote:The Folgore and the ships of its class will redefine Istalian maritime capability for decades to come, ensuring readiness, protection and projection in every theater of operations.

Istalia explores its subsoil
The great undertaking of the SNPE and the National Plan for the Enhancement of Strategic Suitable Areas begins

ROMULA - The largest mineral prospecting campaign in the history of Istalia has officially begun. With the operation of the SNPE - National Prospecting and Extraction Company, Istalia intends to precisely map and analyze the areas of its territory.

The project, called the National Plan for the Enhancement of Strategic Suitable Areas, was originally outlined during the second Monaldi government but was left on hold due to political contingencies. The current Saragat executive has decided to relaunch it forcefully, entrusting the newly formed SNPE with the mission pursuing a clear objective: to map and evaluate the mineral potential of Istalia's soil, with particular attention to the areas historically linked to mining activity. The SNPE will be responsible for conducting detailed geological analyses and proposing plans for economically sustainable and strategically useful extraction of any useful raw materials to be submitted to Parliament for approval. These raw materials are now essential for the high-tech industry on which Istalia has placed so much emphasis during the post-war reconstruction: rare earths, strategic metals, silicon and other essential components for microchips, electronics and precision mechanics.

Although the country has already consolidated secure supply channels at an international level, the government now aims to reduce structural dependence. The Minister of Economy, National Industry and Trade Gianluca Gori, told the press:

Quote:It is a question of technological and economic sovereignty. Technological independence also passes through the subsoil and we do not want and cannot depend totally on external suppliers for essential raw materials.

About this new endevour undertaken by the Government, Minister Secretary of State Saragat announed her plan to scorporate from the Ministry of Economy, National Industry and Trade the responsabilities on mineral resources and energy, with the creation of the Ministry of Strategic Resources and Susteinable Energy already this year, ministry which Minister Gori hopes to be appointed to head.

“Who represents whom?”: protests against the electoral system and the crisis of representation in Istalia
Minister Secretary of State Saragat opts for dialogue supported by the Emperor who underlines the right of citizens to express their ideas

ROMULA — The squares of Istalia are filling up again. Sit-ins, flash mobs, silent marches and student demonstrations have been following one another uninterruptedly for two years now, in what many observers are beginning to define as the largest protest movement in post-war Istalia. At the heart of the discontent is an issue that touches the very foundations of the democratic system: political representation.

The fuse was lit by the results of the last elections and the protests mainly targeted the instant-runoff majoritarian system, chosen at the time to guarantee greater stability and governability. But according to many, especially among the extra-parliamentary movements and political formations excluded from Parliament, the cost of this stability was too high: the systematic exclusion of small formations and alternative voices from the institutional debate.

The leaders of the Voci dal Basso movement, which arose spontaneously in universities, denounce:

Quote:It’s no longer democracy, it’s legal oligarchy! Public opinion is manipulated by the mainstream media and the dominant parties, while public institutions, including the Armed Forces, reflect only those few political orientation.

The criticisms become even stronger among the most radical positions if we consider that, by law, 25% of parliamentary seats are reserved for the Armed Forces, in a system that the demonstrators define as constitutionally ambiguous. The mix of political power and military apparatus raises growing concerns among the most radicals who, today more than ever, are calling for a return to full civilian representative democracy.

However, the young people are the beating heart of the demonstrations: mobilized around cross-cutting issues, such as social justice and the climate crisis, they forcefully demand that the environment return to the center of the political agenda. From the university-based ecologist collective "Futuro da Tutelare" came a strong appeal to the politics:

Quote:Now that the country is being rebuilt, we have the opportunity to make different choices than in the past. Today new technologies offer us alternative politics for a sustainable economic and industrial system. But our voices should be represented too, we don't want to be limited to appeals and awareness campaigns that the politics too often ignore.

A voice out of tune in the parliamentary panorama is that of the Party of New Communists. After last year’s National Congress, the radical wing led by Armando Testa took the reins of the party, openly siding it with the extra-parliamentary movements. Testa defined the current system as "an electoral cage at the service of the elite" and relaunched the proposal to return to a proportional system, the only way, according to him, for true democratic representation.

The reactions of the other parties into the parliament have been diverse: Minister Secretary of State Annalisa Saragat has adopted a conciliatory approach, initiating a series of meetings with representatives of the protest movements for months. The Head of Government has repeatedly declared that the her Istalia must be based on dialogue and not on imposition. But this position is not shared by everyone within the Socialist Democratic Party: a significant fringe fears that a proportional reform could weaken the party, the vote for the PSD dispersed in a constellation of left-leaning political groups.

The reaction of Valeriano Giunio, leader of the National Liberal Party, was instead very harsh, calling the protesters as troublemakers, time-wasters and nostalgic for the Socialist Republic. The PNL has made the majoritarian electoral system one of the cornerstones of its political strategy, aiming to return to power thanks to the centralization of consensus. Giunio hopes for the evolution towards a bipolar political system, which, in his opinion, would guarantee solid governments, coherent programs and institutional stability.

The Hosian Democratic Union has also split internally. While the majority of the party fears that proportional representation would fragment its consensus, a growing minority believes that such a system could favor centrists, making them indispensable in government coalitions and increasing their negotiating weight.

The protests, while remaining in almost all cases peaceful, were not without tensions. In particular, the case of the protester stabbed by a former navy commando during a demonstration in Sira aroused great indignation. The episode prompted the Emperor to intervene publicly: in a televised speech to the nation, he firmly condemned all forms of violence, reaffirming the right to protest as a pillar of democracy:

Quote:The new Istalia must demonstrate every day that it is not the old regime. Dissent, if expressed peacefully, is one of the highest expressions of freedom.

A shift towards proportional representation: National Liberals protest while extra-parliamentary movements rejoice

ROMULA — After weeks of intense consultations with the parties represented in parliament and intense discussions with exponents of extra-parliamentary political movements, Minister Secretary of State Annalisa Saragat has officially presented her proposal for reform of the electoral system. The proposal marks a paradigm shift in national political representation and aims to respond to growing criticism of the lack of pluralism in parliament.

The heart of the reform, which does not affect the system for the 119 seats reserved for the Armed Forces, provides for the introduction of a mixed electoral system: of the 356 seats elected in civilian constituencies, 178 will continue to be assigned in single-member constituencies with the instant run-off system, while the other 178 will be distributed on a proportional basis according to the list vote expressed by voters.

In detail, the reform will maintain the number of 475 seats of the National Congress and, as mentioned, the 119 seats reserved for the Armed Forces will continue to be elected with the alternative voting system in single-member constituencies.

The 356 civilian seats will be divided into 178 single-member constituencies always elected with the instant run-off system and 178 proportional seats assigned on a national basis through a list vote.

Each voter will have to cast two separate votes, one for the preferred candidate of their constituency through the usual instant run-off system (so the voter will continue to present his/her list of preferences), and one list vote for a party.

The 178 seats assigned on a proportional basis will be allocated by calculating for each party the total number of seats that would be due to it on the entire civil quota of 356 seats, according to its percentage share, the seats already won in single-member constituencies will be subtracted, to obtain the number of proportional seats to be assigned with the largest remainder method without thresholds, a choice to grant maximum proportionality and transparence and to promote fair distribution even for small parties.

The reform was greeted with enthusiasm by the New Communists, who immediately announced their support for the text considered as a decisive step forward towards a more representative democracy. The favorable line also prevailed among the Hosian Democrats: despite some internal resistance, the majority of the party announced that it will vote in favor of the proposal.

The position of the National Liberals, the main opposition force, was decidedly opposite. Leader Valeriano Giunio harshly criticized the reform and responded to journalists as he left the National Congress after the presentation of the reform:

Quote:I warn you: the new system will make it impossible for any party to prevail, condemning the country to a nightmare of instability. Parliament will be led by fragile government alliances that emerged from laborious negotiations that will satisfy no one, least of all the citizens! And furthermore, I assure you that with these governments it will be impossible to clearly identify responsibilities and those responsible.

The tone among the extra-parliamentary movements is very different, which see the reform as a historic opportunity. Greens, civics, autonomists, republican and even anarchists rejoiced at the news, declaring themselves ready to prepare for the next round of elections, which promises to be much more open and competitive than the past ones.

With the approval of the reform now on the horizon, the entire country is now looking to the next elections. The great unknown remains the political fate of Annalisa Saragat: will her decision to focus on dialogue and the path of reform be rewarded by the voters or will it mark the end of her political career? In a climate already full of expectations and tensions, the answer will only come from the ballot boxes in 5640.
