PNR Congress ousts Arslonov and reforms the party

In recent days, influential members of the Party for National Revolution called the Grand Reform Congress of the Party for National Revolution to completely restructure the party. The congress was attended by 330 deputies, the process by which they were picked was not revealed, however.

The first item on the programme was a motion to remove Yunis Arslonov from leadership of the party and to expel him from the party, which passed 329 to 1, with the dissenting vote being Arslonov himself.

Immediately after, the party began discussion about possible rebranding and restructuring of the Party for National Revolution. It seems that the intention to do so was somewhat known already, as the Congress quickly reached consensus, and the Resolution of the Grand Reform Congress of the Party for National Revolution on Reform of the Party was adopted 264 to 76.

As per the resolution, the party will now be known as the People's Party of Utaristan and has adopted a new logo. The party will be highly centralised, and its president-director will be elected by the Congress, formed of 5 representatives elected from each region.

Its fundamental principles are stability, order, and security. It aims to be a-national, not favouring any ethnicity, instead supporting the Utaristani state. Ideologically, it has moved to the left, as the resolution declares the party's support for an interventionist pro-worker economy. The party also intends to support farmers and rural areas, which are widespread in Utaristan. Socially it will remain conservative but secular.

Another important shift in the party policy is in foreign affairs. The PPU will seek to end its trade of rare earth metals with the fascist Legionary Kundrati and will also seek to explore possible alignment with the West Dovani Union.

With this reform, the party and its new leader, Nasiv Tursunov, try to leave their autocratic past behind, but for many it's still tied to the old regime, be it in good or bad. As the deadline for elections set by the Joint Agreement nears, the country prepares for the first free election in decades.

Utaristan holds a democratic vote, as people are uncertain about the future

Almost two years the opposition and the government forces have agreed to the compromise, and together created and signed the Joint Agreement Guaranteeing Stability and Democracy in the Republic of Utaristan, or simply known as the Joint Agreement. The latter, as a part of compromise, laid down the roadway towards the new democratic elections in Utaristan. Despite allowing opposition and minority parties, like UBDP and EOMI, respectively, to run in the election, the compromise was that only 260 out newly-expanded 400-seat National Assembly will be freely contested, with 100 seats reserved for the People's Party of Utaristan (UXP), previously known as the Party of National Revolution.

As the polls have closed at 8pm Cise time, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has declared that over 79% of all eligible voters have exercised their right to choose, and cast a ballot in both the presidential and the legislative elections, held simultaneously, also as a part of the Joint Agreement. With first votes being reported, it became clear that it will be a sweeping night for the opposition United Democratic Party of Utaristan (UBDP), though it became a question of how much, and whether the both UBDP and EOMI could reach a supermajority together. By the morning time, people knew that, in fact, it wasn't, and while UBDP-EOMI will indeed have a stable majority in the National Assembly, had they wished to amend the Constitution, it would required both to negotiate with UXP. The seat reservations have put the UXP at first place, with 183 seats, despite winning only 32% of the free vote, while UBDP, who has won a majority, 51% of the popular vote, will have only 133 seats in the National Assembly. And the ethnic minorities interest party, EOMI, will control 83 seats thanks to the 17% of the vote, with 40 seats being previously reserved.

In the presidential race, however, the situation is different. UBDP nominal leader, former political prisoner and a demographer, Ismail Zhaparov became party's presidential candidate. Zhaparov, ethnic Ciltay, was also endorsed by the EOMI, as EOMI's new leader, and Zhaparov's former jailmate, Olivia Kamplan spoke: "Let us be real, we, as a party, today stand no chance in electing its own president, and nor do we need to, when other parties already do that for us. laughs But also, it's about unity, and making sure justice wins. Light against the darkness. Zhaparov is a decent human being, and some who has seen the worst, so he only knows how to go up and up!" UXP, meanwhile, nominated their own new leader, Nasiv Tursunov, for the presidency. Tursunov, who has led UXP in an anti-Arslonov crusade within the newly renamed party, promised a "term of change", a "new vision" and a "real democracy". Other independent activists tried to register, but were denied by the NEC, citing the Joint Agreement points.

A race of the two was already predetermined, so just like with the legislative election, it was a question of "by how much" would Zhaparov win. Polls closed simultaneously with those for the legislative election, at 8pm. And first results have showed a blowout even bigger compared to that of election to the National Assembly. NEC has announced the final result early in the morning. Zhaparov has won with 72% percent of the popular vote. As the NEC Chairman Ürkesh Sidick read out the Zhaparov number, and audible gasp was heard in the room. Despite most expecting the victory of the nominal UBDP leader, the scale of it was rather shocking to some. UXP candidate, Tursunov, has not conceeded until the final morning results, but following the NEC annoucement, he said he has called President-elect, and wished him luck during his term.

Zhaparov, elected for a four-year term, will serve until 5642. During his victory speech, he promised to be a "democratic president for all, accountable for all actions, before the people above all". Zhaparov said he will work with UXP on the constitutional amendments to "further move Utaristan towards the actually real democracy", jokingly jabbing at his opponent. But, after the triumphal night for UBDP, not many are excited, as the fear of undemocratic regimes is still in the air, alongside ethnic tensions which may become more quiet, but have not stopped completely.
