Kalistani News in Brief: Dam Projects on Schedule
ODEN calls for new International GanJam; Hypoderma's new album debuts at Number 1
Kaliburg, Grand Duchy of Ananto
October 20, 5509
Vrassa Plateau High Dam, in Duchy of Vrassa is one of eight KPO dams proceeding on schedule
Dam Projects continue Apace
The eight Dam Projects being overseen by KALNAPECO, and build by the Civil Engineering Corps of the NSP are continuing on schedule. Four years into the decade long project, most of the dams have large upright structures built along the banks of the rivers they intend to eventually block up. "We haven't begun the hard part," said project manager of the Vrassa Plateau Dam site, Captain Kenneth Yeager of the National Service Program. "We've basically constructed the infrastructure and begun clearing the land that will eventually be inundated, during the first couple years and meanwhile, concrete specialists have been pouring concrete almost nonstop during the summer months." Yeagar estimated that the project has used 4.5 million tons of rebar and steel reinforcing so far, which is less than a quarter of the total that will eventually be used. But like the other seven dams being constructed in Mainland Kalistan, the demand for materials and manpower is inexhaustible. "We have welders prefabricating whole sections at a time, back here and then the sections are carried out to the site by these massive cranes here. We're working our gangs across four shifts, six on, twelve off for 10 days, and then giving them 3 days off, and then its back to it." Yeagar stated that each of these dam projects employs a full crew of more than 5,000 workers, consisting of welders, concrete masons, heavy equipment operators, and laborers. "Yeah, if people from other countries want to send workers here to join us, we pay high wages. If you speak Vrassan or Egelian, you're pretty much guaranteed as much work as you want, for the next six years." Meanwhile, the work continues on schedule-- Work on the Vrassa Plateau Dam is expected to be completed in Summer 5515, and then the gates will be closed and the new Plateau Reservoir will begin filling.
ODEN-H Calls for New GanJam
Michael Ferrell, incoming Chair of ODEN-H, has said that the Organization is in the early planning stages of a new GanJam. The legendary Music and Arts Festival hasn't been held in Kalistan for more than 200 years, though recently a number of smaller music festivals, including the Peace Concert held in 5473 was touted as a Mini-GanJam. Ferrell said that ODEN is currently looking at venues: "It would be pretty wild to do an international event, with venues in different Duchies or even simultaneously held in separate countries. GanJam has so rarely attracted any interest from outside of Kalistan, but it has always been ODEN's dream to make the festival a truly international affair that celebrates the music, art and alternative and underground scenes in each country." When asked about whether he thinks that GanJam will be an international thing or another mostly or completely Kalistani affair, Ferrell shrugged. "Given our track record, my money is on other nations completely ignoring the festival. Which is just as well: Kalistani's love music and attend festivals by the tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands each year. This despite the fact that there are growing music scenes popping up all over the place. We obviously want to invite everyone, regardless of it is Luthori, or Baltusia, or Lourenne, or Gaduridos, or Hobrazia or Dundorf, or Hutori, or whoever has a music scene capable of supporting a band to visit Kalistan. But if we have to do it on our own again, that won't phase us: I don't want to be the one to drop the ball on GanJam one more time." Ferrell said he was considering venues in Suldanor and Ananto, given the proximity to international travel infrastructure. "We want to aim for for 5511 or 5512," said Ferrell. "And we want to bring back the four day format that we used to do. When ODEN began making the festival smaller, we started losing the vision."
Hypoderma's New Album Ritual Sexorsisto debuts at Number 1; signals foray into funk metal
The Sulari Based Alternative Metal band Hypoderma has released their follow up to the 5507 KMI megahit PowerPlant. The new 12 Track LP, titled Ritual Sexorsisto, also released on KMI, debuted at number 1 on the KRTVN Radio 1 Hot 100 Album Chart this week, on the strength of the funk-inflected Alternative smash "That Goddamned Radio" which itself debuted at Number One on the Radio 1 Top 40 Singles Chart. "When that song hit the airwaves," said Radio 1 Program Manager and Drivetime DJ Kelly Wintrop, "the phones lit up and crashed our computer switchboard. People were requesting that song a ridiculous amount of times, and so of course it went right into heavy rotation." The single was accompanied by a video that spliced footage of Lead singer Mondo Phillips surfing into concert footage taken this last summer as Hypoderma played the Forest Cove Amphitheater in Dulnerstaad. The video includes a montage of the Sulari Skyline as a juxtaposition to more surf footage. "The Album certainly has a much more mature sound to it," said Wintrop. "There's a lot of unexpected jazz elements on it, and a lot of funk which was totally unexpected, and even something that sounds with some Aldegarian influence, which is totally unique in the entire Kalistani Music Scene; Borrowing and playing with these different music styles, while keeping the same volume and intensity shows the band being willing to experiment. And it certainly didn't cost them any fans: Anyone who has listened to the entire record knows its every bit as loud as PowerPlant but it almost feels like they have left a lot of their heroin ghosts in the past and are really enjoying making music on this record. Like they are having fun." You can check out the video for "That Goddamned Radio" of Hypoderma's new Number One Record Ritual Sexorsisto on M7 or right here.

Empress Greets Luthorian Prince Plenipotentiary
Exchange of Ambassadors finally Normalizes relations between two Empires
Kaliburg, Grand Duchy of Ananto
April 7, 5510
Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Nicolette greets Luthorian Prince Andrew, named Luthorian Ambassador to Kalistan, along with Luthori Staffer
In a brief ceremony followed by a diplomatic reception, Her Imperial Majesty, the Empress Nicolette II Ananto accepted the diplomatic credentials of Prince Andrew Frederick John William of Orange-Villayn Armstead, second cousin of the current Emperor of Luthori, Albert I and has recognized him as Ambassador and Plenipotentiary from His Majesty's Government. The acceptance ceremony was held at the Imperial Seat in downtown Kaliburg, and involved the new Ambassador, Prince Andrew, presenting the formal patents naming him Luthorian Ambassador to Her Imperial Majesty's Court and making a short speech, mentioning that His Government and His Emperor looked very much forward to the bright future ahead for Luthorian-Kalistani Relations, including strengthening commercial, cultural and political ties. The statement acknowledged challenges and opportunities that lay in front of the two Governments, and stressed the value of cooperating together as friends. Following the presentation of the Credentials, the Prince made a slight bow, according to Imperial Protocol and Her Imperial Majesty, the Empress, remaining seated on the Throne of the Empire, answered:
Quote:"We accept these credentials on behalf of our Court. We are honored that your first Embassy should be here with us. You are welcomed to Kalistan".
There was a round of applause that followed this historic event. As the Empress remained seated, the Foreign Minister Mr. Francisco Delgado, then rose, and delivered the following words: "Her Imperial Majesty, the Empress Nicolette II Ananto welcomes Your Highness, Prince and Ambassador. She wishes me to communicate Her faith not only in your Government's willingness to bridge the long standing gaps between these two great nations, but also adds a personal word of confidence in you. She adds that She has read of your own nomination and the conversations that surrounded it, and wants me to say that She feels that your emperor made a well informed and enlightened decision in sending someone to Her Imperial Majesty's court who can speak with the authority of the emperor in Luthori, and has his full confidence. She knows that you do not necessarily have a life long experience in diplomacy and She feels that this is a strength that you bring to your relationship with Her Imperial Majesty. Occasionally, blood is thicker than civil service experience. Her Imperial Majesty appreciates your forthright nature and your courage in accepting the nomination to this Post, and hopes that from time to time, she may rely on your candor, absolute honesty and integrity in relaying conversations and intentions both to and from your emperor, so there may be only understanding and comity between the two Nations. She adds in closing that She welcomes you, your staff, and your family, and looks forward to many years of productive discussions on issues that concern both Luthori and Kalistan. Welcome to you, Your Highness, Prince Andrew."
Following the speeches and photos, a small wine and cheese reception was held where Luthorian and Kalistani counterparts met and began the process of getting to know one another and building trust. The Empress, in this setting could be somewhat less formal, and took the opportunity to meet the new Ambassador, members of his family and staff, and to share some hopes and plans she has. After about a half hour, Her Imperial Majesty excused herself to attend to other matters, while the Foreign Minister stayed on to begin discussion on getting the Luthorian Ambassador and staff situated in their new temporary Home here in Kaliburg.
The exchange of Ambassadors is a first in Kalistani-Luthorian relations, which have been non-existent for centuries, due to lack of follow through, difficulties in communication, and a general mismatch of worldview between the Western and Eastern Empires. This ceremony marks an historical high point in Kalistani-Luthorian relations thus far. As the Prince's counterpart settles in the Kalistani Embassy in Fort William, the now fully normalized relationship between Kalistan and Luthori will open a new era of peace and good will, and serves as a coup for Luthori, who has long sought to increase its influence in Northern Seleya, only to costantly meet a roadblock in Kalistan. It is the Government in Kaliburg's hope that now that relations are normalized, Luthori will become a trustworthy partner for prosperity in Seleya, and that Kalistani soft power can be extended into Artania.
In a post script, FM Delgado said that Her Imperial Majesty was in the process of planning a wide ranging foreign trip to visit a number of other nations. "I can confirm," Delgado said, "that Luthori is on the list. If Her Imperial Majesty ends up travelling to Luthori, it will be the first time that any Kalistani Head of State, be it a President or an Ananto, has set foot in Luthori. 25 years ago, such a visit would have been utterly unimaginable." We'll keep you posted about the developments of these plans.

Sulari and Kaliburg Fashion Houses aim to displace foreign designers
Domestic Designers highlight conservative ensembles for Fall
Sulari, Duchy of Suldanor
October 17, 5510
Del Valle's Fall Line (top) focuses on lines, while DiGioia's new Fall Line (bottom) offers more for those who like colors
The world of fashion rarely reflects popular tastes: Fashion is such because it generally leads popular tastes, reflecting the vision of artists and aestheticians, who practice the philosophy of physical beauty. And this year, both major Sulari fashion houses, the long standing Del Valle house in Sulari and the upstart DiGioia House in Kaliburg, seem to have drawn from the same artistic well. Both Houses take their cues for this Fall's fashion lines from Her Imperial Majesty, the Empress herself, and in doing so, aim to create a specific Kalistani fashion that can not only rival international fashion within the Empire, but can also compete in the world.
The silhouettes of both Fall collections are smooth, professional and conservative. "We really wanted to do something that not only highlights the femininity of those who buy our pieces," said DiGioia founder Maria DiGioia, of Kaliburg, "But we also wanted to present an image of someone who is confident, and really kind of in control of the situation. I also wanted to do something more with colors. My inspiration of course was the fashion of the Empress, who always appears in conservative attire, but she always seems to throw some color in her outfits too, which is very attractive and often reflects a season."
Kalistani fashion houses have maintained a low key presence in the Empire since Del Valle was launched almost 180 years ago. "This is a competitive advantage thing," said Del Valle CEO Reginald Gleeson. "Right next door is the fashion capital of the world, and try as we might, we will have a hard time keeping up with their scale. So it is far easier for our customers to simply import their clothing from Lourenne. But we also know that there is a huge market for regular clothing in Kalistan, and our country does make functional items like jeans and shirts and jackets and such very well. And we obviously have done well enough selling to niche markets of those who prefer to buy domestically and support Kalistani industry and designers. And to date, we've seen growth in not only our fabrication units, but also our design teams. To me, that says that domestic fashion is on the move, and now we are seeing our first serious competition in Kaliburg..."
Whether Kalistani firms will be able to compete internationally is a mystery, however. "I think if we put out a good product that looks smart and pretty, there is a market," said DiGioia. "Our research shows that Kalistan has some minor prestige internationally, and people do consume our culture. But our main competitors are not Lourenne, which dwarfs the entire world and tends to lean more into Haute Couture. We also don't compete with the fast fashion that comes out of some parts of the developing world. Our main equal is Luthori, whose industry, like ours is growing. Placing Kalistani designs in Luthorian stores will take some doing, but with some aggressive marketing, and continually producing new, tantilizing, and practical designs, Kalistan is certainly in a position to give Luthorian Fashion a serious run for their money internationally."
DiGioia says that Kalistani fashion has some specific advantages over international fashion. "Primarily, Kalistani designs are meant to last and be used," said DiGioia. "Practicality and efficiency are often dirty words in the Fashion industry. But Kalistan designs and fabricates clothing that is supposed to last and be considered one's LBD, or fun kind of A-Line. But more so in a way where it is the one thing they own that really stands above and beyond. I think most Kalistani women would consider it a strange thing to have closets full of clothing that has only ever been worn once. But most Kalistani women will also have a specific dress they wear out during different occasions. Clothes that fall apart, or clothes that are so expensive and ornate that they will only ever be worn on extremely special occasions sort of sheers off huge chunks of the market. We want to create clothes that will stand up to wear and tear and live a respectably long and useful life in a woman's personal collection."
In conscious imitation of Her Imperial Majesty's style, most of the fabrics used are either linens or wools, with very few synthetics used. "We feel that natural fibers hold up better," said Del Valle's Gleeson. "are easier to maintain and are generally better for the environment. They take fewer resources to create, and feel much better on the skin. Plus, you will never see Her Imperial Majesty wearing some synthetic fiber. That might be fine for everyday wear, but pressed linen with a tailored, woolen tweed coat not only looks sharp, but it also feels great and is very flattering. We want to make women feel good: it's how we get them to buy our clothing."
With both Del Valle and DiGioia Fashion Houses up and running and holding their own competing fashion shows, there is also news that additional companies that focus on everyday fashion, men's fashion, accessories, and perfumes may be in the works. "We'd like to open a perfume line," said Glesson. "It seems to be the next logical step. We are starting to work with olfactory chemists to crunch some numbers concerning whether or not something like this would be profitable. Branching out seems to be a good idea now." DiGioia concurs. "We'd like to get into some new areas of fashion. Naturally there is a risk there and we aren't part of the public sector, so we bear it all. But it seems like there is a market and a demand for things like accessories, shoes, and different items that make the outfit really stand out. It's something we need to consider for the future."
Right now the word on the street is Conservative, and Kalistani fashion reflects that. With luck and aggressive advertising, other nations in the world will begin adopting not only the same look of our most fashionably dressed women, but also our brands.

Chancellor announces return to more Robust Foreign Policy
Government will relax investment restrictions in coming years, to include foreign investment
Kaliburg, Grand Duchy of Ananto
February 8, 5511
Chancellor of the Empire Lord Stephen Wilkes announces New Foreign Policy Posture
Lord Stephen Wilkes, Her Imperial Majesty's Chancellor today quietly unveiled the Empire's new foreign policy posture. The program includes abandonment of isolation, a return to robust nationalism in the International Sphere, and a more active role in pursuing Kalistani interests in foreign nations. Below are the Chancellor's Comments, delivered in a public address on KRTVN:
[following discussion of domestic affairs...]
Quote:"Turning now to Her Imperial Majesty's Foreign Policy, within this year, The Empress and His Highness the Prince Consort, will travel abroad on a multi nation tour to greet various heads of State and Members of Foreign Governments. Foreign Minister Francisco Delgado will travel in parallel for much of the trip, especially where high level meetings will occur, though there will also be plenty of sightseeing along the way that the Empress and the Prince Consort will do outside of official business. The aim of this trip is to establish personal relationships between the Empress and foreign heads of state and building Kalistan's image abroad. This trip comes on the heels of the successful establishment of ambassadorial exchange between Kalistan and Luthori, and follows up overtures from Kazulia, Lourenne, Dundorf, Hutori, and Dolgava. Overall, the Empress is expected to visit a dozen or more countries, all of them major players in world affairs in different areas.
"Additionally, as required by Her Imperial Majesty, we have laid a bill on the table for a simple up or down vote concerning re-authorization of the Imperial Bureau for Security Information. This agency recreates for Kalistan an apparatus for the proper dissemination of Her Imperial Majesty's policies for the information and use of foreign populations, as well as giving us the ability to maintain closer observation on the events going on around the globe. Contrary to the statements to the contrary, this bill is not to be used to propagandize Kalistani Citizens. The Bill is expected to pass without additional comment, and at that point, the Government will direct funds for its operation and maintenance. We want to assure people of the world that the operation of this organization is purely benign and friendly, and we would look forward to opportunities to share information we acquire overseas with our international friends. This bureau will also help Kalistan fight the threats posed by liberalism, both economic and political, abroad and prevent those dangerous ideas from making a home here on our shores, and the Empress especially looks forward to offering assistance for nations who are experiencing difficulty keeping a lid on liberal terror in their own home.
"Next, while Kalistan will maintain its longstanding defensive strategic doctrine, we have asked the Institutionalist Party to officially reactivate its militia, and want to look for opportunities for the Regular Forces to train both abroad and host training exercises here in Kalistan. This can include making available ports, air strips and terrestrial facilities for temporary basing and training of forward leaning militaries who are friendly with Kalistan. As a non-aligned movement member, Her Imperial Majesty would like us to prioritize NAM members over non-NAM members, and those who practice independent foreign policies, but in reality, the facilities we may be willing to host foreign military elements at will be open on a case by case basis, and the only real criteria Her Imperial Majesty has placed on basing rights is friendliness with Kalistan. Applications will be made with Her Imperial Majesty's Ministry of Defense. Meanwhile, the Ministry has been tasked with helping the Institutionalist Party stand up their Militia, and to carve out their offensive and defensive roles in support of the Regular Forces of Kalistan.
"Finally, Her Imperial Majesty has called on Her Government to begin relaxing foreign investment restrictions, in an effort to improve Kalistan's standing in the world. She has asked us to pass legislation allowing foreign investors to, for the first time in a long time, own Majority shares in Kalistani Firms as long as they remain joint ventures and the Plurality Investor remains Kalistani. This would reduce the Kalistani reserve bloc of any joint venture shares to less than 50% but would still maintain the requirements that Kalistani investors must retain the largest bloc of securities in the corporations. These rules would be relaxed with regard to private sector companies only: Public Sector firms will remain entirely state/Kalistani owned. Her Imperial Majesty has proposed these changes be phased in over the course of three years, beginning with AESA member states, and then Seleyan Nations who are not AESA members, and then international investors, if there doesn't appear to be huge capital flight. Additionally, the Empress has directed a change in the Republican Bank Act to authorize the creation of two new large scale private commercial investment banks that will make capital available for institutional investors who wish to invest in foreign securities, a practice that is not possible under the current law. The Republican Bank will be required to place and enforce regulations on the loans made by these two commercial Banks, as well as establish repayment terms, but may join with Private investors in the capitalization of these banks. It is still unknown whether the Empress will also relax laws regarding the charging of interest by private sector financial institutions, but She has signaled that She is considering that relaxation in the near future."
[...more comments followed regarding the fiscal state of the Empire, and updates on the progress of the KPO infrastructure projects proceeding across Kalistan Proper followed these announcements.]

Delgado says "Government reconsidering Altatapec"
Inflationary tendencies of LFR appear to be under microscope
Kaliburg, Grand Duchy of Ananto
April 9, 5511
Foreign Minister Paco Delgado discusses Policy at Council of Anantonese Affairs in Kaliburg
Her Imperial Majesty's Foreign Minister, Francisco "Paco" Delgado, was the Keynote Speaker at the Spring Meeting of the Council of Anantonese Affairs this week. At the speech, during the Governor's Luncheon, Delgado delivered a speech titled "Re-Evaluating the Special Relationship." During the speech, Delgado announced that the Empress has been speaking with various foreign relations experts, asking a simple question: "Is our relationship with Lourenne a help or a hinderance to Kalistan?"
"Her Imperial Majesty is first and foremost a nationalist," said Mr. Delgado. "It is with the sober eye of the Nationalist that the Empress tries to evaluate every policy she adopts. She does not rely on sentimentality. She does not rely on nostalgia. And she does not rely on impulse. She is one of the shrewdest individuals that I've ever worked with, and she is always studying, always learning, and always open to new information. But she will always make her decisions based on what she believes to be best for her Nation and her people, for she truly believes that her most important title is 'Embodiment of the Anantonese Nation', and she takes that job very seriously."
The Foreign Minister went on to say that the Empress is looking at both the role of Altatapec, the treaty signed at the end of the recent War in the Sea of Lost Souls (also known as the Hubris War) and the internationalization of the LFR. "With regard to the Treaty, I am not sure that treaty is long for the world in Kalistan," said FM Delgado. "There doesn't really seem to be anything in it for Kalistan. It seems to confirm what Kalistan already states to be a situation of fact, it ties Kalistan to a treaty regime that is otherwise dominated by large powers, both economic and military, and it also signals, through omission, who does not fall into that bloc. Kalistan has long stood outside blocs, and Her Imperial Majesty believes that it may soon be time for Kalistan to reconsider that Treaty."
The Foreign Minister also included some comments about the LFR, which seems to have spread across the world as part of the Neset trading Network. "While Kalistan supports the adoption of an International Convertible Currency, our Empress reflects her Mother's apprehension toward adopting a currency tied to any nation's policy," said Delgado. "When the Lourennais economy is strong, those who have tied their own economic fortunes to the Franc do well. But when the Lourennais economic prosperity fades, as all economies which willingly accept the ups and downs of the Business Cycle must, they will drag most of the world's monetary systems down with it. The dramatic expansion of the LFR is already starting to produce inflation world wide, and as it moves into new countries, the even well meaning Franc Institute will lose control of it. Enthusiasm to adopt it may eventually be the demise of the international monetary regime, and Her Imperial Majesty is taking steps to avoid being taken down with it."
The words from the Foreign Minister seem counterintuitive, as the rest of the world plunges headlong into a global trade network run by Beiteynu and happily pegs their currency to the LFR, or openly adopts it as their own. "But Her Imperial Majesty already sees signs of an inflationary cycle setting in to the LFR regime, and the closer one is tied to that currency, the more inflation will eat up the buying power of the world's workers." The Foreign Minister was careful not to issue any policy during the discussion. "The Empress will say of course that each nation must chart its own course. Kalistan maintains our Zero Percent Growth focus as a protection against inflationary cycles. Our model may not be appropriate for some countries' growth strategies. There are of course trade offs.
"But part of our Nation's policy is to not trust the Market to ever get it right," continued Mr. Delgado. "Not only does the market act erratically: The Market is not in and of itself rational, and individual rationality almost always yields collective irrationality and negative systemic outcomes. But it can also be a tool for the wealthy and powerful to enrich themselves at the expense of those who wish they were wealthy and powerful. Getting a developing nation to buy into a regime controlled by a powerful nation with the promise of one day being like that powerful nation is a form of Imperialism. As long as the powerful nation is clear about the relationship and the weaker power enters into it knowingly, this is not in itself immoral. But when it is sold as a vehicle for advancement to those who themselves have few resources and are being asked to invest them in what is in essence a pyramid scheme, that seems exploitative."
The comments produced immediate backlash from liberals in the audience, who launched into a series of very pointed questions, asking for clarification, including questions like "Why is Her Imperial Majesty's Government so hostile toward any whiff, however small, of free market economics?" and "Where did the Empress get her Economic Degree, since she seems so willing to opine on a subject that most Kalistanis neither know much about, nor care much about?" The Foreign Minister brushed aside the questions from the liberals, referring back to his comments, though some questions characterized the Foreign Minister of attempting to drive a wedge between the two Anantonese Monarchies.
"Any accusation that Her Imperial Majesty has anything other than the most positive feelings toward the United Kingdom is so scurrilous and outrageous as to not even be acknowledged," said Minister Delgado. "Her Imperial Majesty looks forward to travelling to Lourenne this summer, and hopes to meet once more with King Leopold there to reaffirm our Nation's friendship and cooperation with Lourenne." He did add, however, "But the Empress reserves the right to conduct her own foreign policy, and to hold her own opinions, especially when she believes certain arrangements are bad deals for Kalistan and other countries. Make of that what you will." The dismissal raised a host of new questions, and not a small measure of disorder, as liberals and institutionalists began debating with one another in the hall. The Foreign Minister took that as a cue to depart, thanked the Conference attendees for meeting with him, and then headed off for a new meeting.
There is no word about how the Minister's speech was received in Eveari, but later that day, His Highness, the Prince Consort, when discussing plans for the summer's world tour, added "And I'll say one more thing. I should expect a cooler reception in Eroncourt after Paco's speech today, but speaking for myself, I think its about time someone said it." When asked to elaborate, HHPC Bjorn said, "No further comment on that. I may have overstepped."

Kalistani Royal Couple Make International Tour de Force
"Welcomed in all countries visited" says FM Delgado
Kaliburg, Grand Duchy of Ananto
July 27, 5511
AeroKal Global, signified KA-1907, carrying the Empress and Prince Consort takes off from Kaliburg International
Route of Her Imperial Majesty Empress Nicolette and Prince Consort Bjorn, June-July 5511
Her Imperial Majesty, The Empress Nicolette II Ananto and His Highness, the Prince Consort Bjorn have returned from their long anticipated world tour, visiting more than a dozen countries on six continents, over 8 weeks, and meeting countless heads of state, government dignitaries and well wishing citizens of foreign states enroute. The overall message of the tour was "Good Will". "The Empress wanted to express to the people of the world that Kalistan is interested in getting to know them, work with them, and welcome them to our Nation," said Foreign Minister Paco Delgado, who accompanied the Empress on several legs of the trip. "As importantly, the Empress wanted to build personal relationships with her counterparts overseas. The impression was that she was a cloistered Empress, who insists that others come to Kalistan. But Her Imperial Majesty hopefully dispelled that belief, and signaled her willingness to visit others too."
The itinerary for the trip was as follows:
Dovani
1. Lourenne (5 Days)- The royal couple toured the United Kingdom. The Empress and Prince Consort were received by King Leopold and Queen Consort Marguerite. Following a brief public ceremony where the two monarchs took publicity photos together, the two sovereigns held meetings for about an hour and then emerged for another public handshake photograph event, and then both were joined once more by their spouses for a large state reception. The following days were a mix of meetings with high level Lourennais Government officials, tours of Eroncourt and Valois (ncluding an independent film festival, where the Prince Consort was asked to serve as an honorary member of a judging panel), and excursions to Merida, to meet with Kalistani-Lourennais residents, shopping on Avenue des Princes in Eroncourt and nightlife entertainment in the casinos and Showcases of Beaumont-sur-Mer. The Empress and Prince Consort stayed at the Avienne-les-Bains Resort, for the duration of their stay. Of note was a meeting between the Empress and the new Socialist Prime Minister Astrid Abientot, who was elected as the head of the Majority in last year's elections. The Empress, who is known for her very public criticism of liberalism, nonetheless had a very cordial and forthright public discussion with the Chancellor. The Empress demonstrated sympathy with the humanitarian aims of the Chancellor, and a masterful understanding of many of the issues that the Chancellor is facing, but also did not miss the opportunity to gently rebuff any suggestions that Kalistan might explore moving the Ruble closer to the Franc. "It is clear that the words of the Foreign Minister earlier this year (in Kaliburg, at the Council of Anantonese Affairs) were public pronouncements of the Empress' policy rather than independent musings from Delgado, and that the Empress seems intent on distancing her Nation from the globalizing monetary regime of the LFR," said geopolitical observer Marianne Vespa. "The meeting between the two was viewed as positive and productive by the Kalistanis."
2. Kazulia (3 Days) - In the Northern Kingdom of Kazulia, The Empress and Prince Consort met with Queen Helga Nordholm and King Consort Frederik in the capital of Skalm. The meeting was brief, as pressing matters of State regarding the conflict in West Dovani required the Queen's attention, however, the King Consort proceeded with Empress Nicolette and Prince Consort Bjorn to introduce the Empress to Bjorn's family. The couple spent time relaxing in the Northern lands, and the Prince Consort took the Empress on a boat ride to view fjords and glaciers up close. This was the first time the Empress had ever seen a glacier, outside of a movie or book. The couple also viewed whale migration in the northern County of Agatha.
Keris
3. Dolgava (3 Days) The Empress and Prince Consort next flew to Aikums, in the Empire of Dolgava, where they met with Empress Svena II, and discussed Anantonese Affairs. Empress Nicolette pointed out that Dolgava and Kalistan have long enjoyed cordial relations and have worked on several projects in the past, and welcomed the renewal of relations. She also noted her appreciation for Dolgava's continued cooperation in ODEN. "We welcome Her Majesty the Empress of the Dolgavans, to our Nation to revive the warm personal relationship that our respective mothers began many years many years ago right here in Dolgava," said the Empress at a public event following the meeting. The Empress and Prince Consort were then offered a tour of the Dolgavan Broadcasting Corporation and the Aikums Stock Exchange, where the Empress was invited to ring the bell signaling the start of the Friday trading day. The Royal couple stayed several nights in the tourist haven of Fort Karzon, and spent an undisclosed though not unsubstantial sum of money in one of the new casinos. The Empress reportedly prefers betting on horses, but the Prince Consort likes card games and the couple were spotted at both the Baccarat and Pai Gow tables in the High Roller rooms, as well as at the Black jack tables, mixing with locals. Before leaving Dolgava, the Royal couple were introduced to Dolgavan model and film star Florentija Podziņa. who recently won the Dolgavan Actors' Guild Award for her film "New Dawn", and the trio talked about the film industry in Dolgava, with the Prince Consort expressing hope that Ms. Podziņa might be offered an opportunity to act in a Kalistani Film in the near future.

4. Hutori (5 days)- The next stop was Hutori, where the Kalistani couple were very warmly greeted by Queen Victoria II, Prince Consort Henri, and the new Conservative Prime Minister Pierre Perreault. The Empress was thrilled to see the Hutorian Queen once more and beamed in photographs taken together. Her Imperial Majesty also congratulated Mr Perreault on his victory in recent elections, though reserved comment on the recent elimination of the National Rail Service. Rather than step into a political discussion, the Empress re-emphasized the close personal and cultural ties between the two Nations, and even said:
Quote:"Of all nations in Terra, Kalistanis have a natural affinity for the culture and people of Hutori. It has long been the basis of very positive relations for centuries, and It is in our interest that those relationships continue to flower and grow. Though we may be separated by leagues of ocean, our two people could not be closer if we were siblings. It is our desire to welcome not only our Friend and Colleague, the Queen Victoria back to Kalistan as soon as she may make the trip, but to welcome all the people of Hutori to come visit our Land and our People, stay among us, and treat our Homeland as your own!"
Following festivities in Bekenial, the Couple travelled on to Axminister, where they vacationed for five days with no official itinerary. During the sojourn in the mountain resort, the Empress and Prince Consort slept in late, ordered room service, and generally spent nights out on the town. They also took time to visit ODEN-H's Headquarters in Hutori, and sample some of the finest small batch whiskey the Kingdom has to offer. They met several Kalistani travelers who were in town, who invited the Royals to visit Skyhold. "The two night excursion included attending the world famous Skyhold Film Festival, which showcases short and medium length documentaries about the Out-of doors," said Vespa, who followed the couple to Hutori. "The movies were about everything from white water kayaking, to biking down steep and dangerous alpine trails, to free climbing every major peak over 10,000 feet in Seleya, to efforts to protect temperate rainforests in Dovani. The films were often accompanied by commentary from the directors. The Empress expressed that she would like Kalistani film makers to begin a film series similar to the Skyhold Film Festival." The pair stayed overnight in the Skyhold Castle, and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take time out of their whirlwind tour. The visit ended once more in the Capital, where the Empress said her farewells to Queen Victoria before heading to Artania.

Artania
5. Dundorf (3 Days)- The Kalistani Royals landed on the Artanian Continent first in Dundorf, where the Empress met in a cordial ceremony with recently elected President of the Republic, Ursula Sobottka, and the returning Chancellor of the Republic Kristin Metz, both of the Center Left Governing coalition. The Empress took several official photographs with the President and Chancellor, and their brief discussions were marked by formality and kind words.
in Dundorfian to the gathered audience of reporters and Dundorfian Government officials, and though her Vrassan accent betrayed her foreignness, her public attempt at Dundorfian warmed the hearts of the people of the Republic toward her Imperial Majesty. Following a public reception, the Royal Couple checked into a private rented chateau on the outskirts of Dunberg. During the following days toured around the Capital, taking in the architecture of the ancient Dundorfian city. One of the most impressive sights in Dunberg was the Odervelder Gate, an imposing structural monument in the City that commemorated peace and was actually at one time a gate of an ancient city wall that is now long gone. The Prince Consort was able to convince the Empress to take a day trip to a nearby ski resort, where he attempted to teach her how to ski, and stayed with her the entire time on the bunny slopes, though he could have easily handled far more difficult courses had be been alone. Following the brief stay in the important Artanian nation, the Royals next flew to the Kundrati Union.
6. Kundrati (2 Days)-- Kundrati has long been seen as the wildcard in Artanian Relations, but Kalistan has long gotten along with them. Upon arrival, the Empress and Prince Consort were met by President Barhulianir Manusulsky, and the two Heads of state together discussed the state of the Non-Aligned Movement. During the meeting, Empress Nicolette was asked about the role of the Non Aligned Movement, given the Altatapec Treaty, which seems to assert Seleya's position as a sphere of influence for Large Players. The Empress answered that she had ordered her government to review the Treaty to determine whether there was any upside for Kalistan.
Quote:"We want to assure our friends here in Kundrati, as well as those we associate with in the Non Aligned Movement, that the NAM is of greater importance to Kalistan than any treaty that contravenes it. NAM is widely supported within Kalistan, its terms guide our own foreign policy, and we have no intention of staying in treaties which seem to contradict it."
The Kundrati President seemed satisfied with the Empress' responses and the meeting went well between the two. Following the meeting, the Empress and Prince Consort were escorted through Kassema, where they were part of a ticker tape Parade, to their luxury accommodations. They passed a peaceful evening before heading on to Luthori.
7. Luthori (4 days)- Empress Nicolette and Prince Consort arrived in Fort William several days ahead of the Coronation of Emperor Charles and were greeted by the new Prime Minister, Alexandra Ramsay-Hayden, who represents the Conservative Party in Luthori, and has moved into the Head of Government spot following the resignation of the previous Premier. For this section, the Empress and Prince Consort were joined once more by Foreign Minister Delgado, who flew in from Kalistan. During the previous government's tenure, Kalistan and Luthori finally exchanged Ambassadors, and have at long last fulfilled the desires of two Kalistani Empresses that Kalistan and Luthori improve their relations. The Empress expressed her encouragement that the Luthorian Government continued to be helmed by capable and level headed individuals and said she looked forward to many long years of good relations with the Artanian Crown. She also noted that before the exchange of Ambassadors, a visit like this would have been impossible.
Quote:"Kalistan and Luthori have had fraught relations in the past. The willingness and foresightness of His Majesty, Emperor Albert to acknowledge Kalistan and dispatch an Ambassador has paved the way for our Visit to your Nation today, and we look forward to building on that foundation a new relationship, characterized by comity, shared interests, and a willingness to adopt innovative solutions to tackle our mutual challenges. It is our desire that Kalistan and Luthori become friends, and remain so, as long as our Reign, or the reign of our descendants shall endure."
Following the reception, the Empress and Prince Consort, joined by Kalistan's newly named Ambassador Dame Michelle Flores-Ananto, took a driving tour of the country, stopping in in little towns and visiting shops and pubs across the country side. "The Empress never posed for so many photos!" said Vespa, who travelled behind the Empress through Luthori. "Everyone in Luthori must have a photograph of them, a bunch of other strangers and the Empress and Prince Consort in it! I've taken 15 SD memory cards full of pictures myself!" The Royal Couple was back in Ft. William in time for the Coronation Ceremony, where the new Emperor, Charles Phillip Alexander James was crowned Emperor Charles the VII in the royal Palace. Most Kalistani observers noted the stark different between the simple, austere Brethrenist Cermony that accompanies the coronation of Anantos and the high ceremony, pomp, protocol and opulence of the Luthorian Ceremony. Following the reception, the Empress and Prince Consort headed south to Narikaton and Darnussia.
8. Narikaton and Darnussia (2 Days)- The Empress and Prince Consort landed in Narikaton and Darnussia for a brief stopover. "In fact, Her Imperial Majesty and the Prince Consort were invited when they were setting up their itinerary," said FM Delgado, who accompanied the pair to Bannerhafen, "and as Kalistan and the Republic have had relatively light interaction in recent memory, this was seen as a good opportunity to meet the Government of N&D and see the country." Upon landing in the Capital, representatives from the Government, led by President Armin Frittkau sat down with the Empress for more publicity photos, and briefly discussed how Kalistan and Narikaton and Darnussia can work together to improve trade and increase interaction. "The meeting was mostly positive," said Delgado. "The Empress was not asked to clarify her position on the LFR, a currency that Narikaton and Darnussia had recently fully adopted. But the Republic shares close relations with many of Kalistan's friends, and this formed the basis of the Empress' and the President's conversation." unfortunately, goings on in Dovani were top of mind for the President, and soon after the short meet and greet, he excused himself, while the Empress and Prince Consort were offered a flight to Jorgen Island, which is a recently developed resort Island. The Royal Couple spent an evening in a rented villa and were invited to a Party hosted by a well known member of the local business community, who introduced the couple to international luminaries, business people and movers and shakers. The next day, they departed Jorgen Island for Majatra.
Majatra
9. Beiteynu (4 Days)- Arriving in Yishalem Beiteynu, current center of the world's trade networks, the visiting Empress and Prince Consort were received by Prime Minister Eli Kadiyot, who serves as what is essentially a Governor General in Beiteynu, and viceroy for the new Luthorian Emperor. But make no mistake, the power of the Government in Beiteynu lies with Kadiyot. During a fairly tense two hour discussion of affairs, which is the longest meeting with a Head of Government so far on the trip, the Empress and Kadiyot had a frank conversation regarding international trade and the LFR. Though the Prime Minister grew animated on occasion, the Empress remained calm and almost taciturn as she explained Kalistan's position on a number of important issues, mostly revolving around economics and trade. "I never got the impression that the talks were adversarial," said FM Delgado. "But Her Imperial Majesty and the Prime Minister represent two very different worldviews around the Market and capitalism which would be entirely incompatible if not underscored by years of cooperation and trade, and mutual friendships in the globe." The meeting ended with a handshake, as the two posed for pictures and smiled. "I suppose it is the best outcome we could have hoped for, given Her Imperial Majesty's antipathy toward liberalism, even highly state centered capitalism like what characterizes the Neset." The following day, Empress Nicolette and Prince Consort Bjorn visited the rich cultural and historical sites across Yishelem, especially those pertaining to Hosian history. They later travelled to Amtzarhe for a few days to relax and enjoy the cuisine for which the area is known internationally before heading on to Sulucia.
10. Selucia (2 days)- Kalistan is an example of modernity, while Selucia has preserved its history in its architecture and its institutions. Kalistan's Monarchs were driven past much of that architecture as they arrived at the Imperial Seat in Selucia and were introduced to Princeps Lucius Cantius Camillus, who is Emperor in Selucia, and Cōnsul Appius Pompilius Superbus, who serves as the Head of Government. The Empress was greeted in Luthorian by the Princeps, and in him, the Empress found a kindred spirit. "The Princeps is perhaps closest to the sort of Absolute Monarch that Her Imperial Majesty herself is as anyone she has met this entire trip," said Ms. Vespa. "The Princeps appoints all offices on the national level, and is involved in most of the governing decisions of the Government. Few others enjoy this level of power within their respective realms, and it is likely that Her Imperial Majesty is one of the few others in the entire world." The Selucian capital is the definition of the Old World, and while the Empress and the Prince Consort enjoyed the visit, they decided to cut short their stay to make a detour to the far south before starting home.
13. Istalia (1 Day)- Before stopping in Selucia, the Southern Majatran Empire, Empress Nicolette and Prince Consort stopped through Istalia for an afternoon to visit the old Ananto Manor.
Quote:"Long ago, our Ancestors had very close ties to Istalia," said Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Nicolette to local reporters. "Our Grandfather and their Emperor were friends, and they were among the first ruling houses in Terra to recognize the Emperor Fredrick Ananto's Sovereignty. Those days are gone now, and our home, now as you see in ruins, is gone. It is our wish to someday rebuild this Estate. It is sad that we must doubt the probability of success of that venture."
The Imperial Party returned soon after to the airport and flew on to Aldegar.
Seleya
14. Aldegar (5 Days)- The Empress and Prince Consort landed in Aldegar, Gateway to Southern Seleya, after an overnight flight. After brief introductions with several Government officials, the Empress was informed that she was to be honored with a new edition of the Maskival, which is the Aldegarian Remembrance and Progress Festival. The Empress was also invited to select a theme for the Festival, and she selected the theme "Music," as she desired an exposition of Aldegarian Music, which she feels is among the more exciting forms of music on the continent. Over the next two days, as the festival was being prepared, the Empress and Prince Consort were shuttled around Aldegar, exploring the historic sights and sounds of old Ramsāhreza, wagering on ponies in the Champagne District, and sleeping in luxury hotels. ODEN-A was on hand and provided the Imperial couple several opportunities to indulge in Aldegarian intoxicants, including Aldegarian hashish, which differs from the Kalistani hashish in the method of its production and the process of its aging and curing, as well as a substance called Khat that is chewed and provides a stimulant effect. The Empress and Prince Consort, normally straight laced and sober, both agreed that they enjoyed their indulgences while in Aldegar. On the fourth day, the Maskival began, and while it was primarily a music festival, it was also a celebration of Aldegarian culture, dancing, regalia and showmanship. The Empress thoroughally enjoyed the Maskival in Aldegar. The visit to Aldegar ended too soon, but the Empress and Prince Consort eventually flew to Gaduridos.
14. Gaduridos (4 Days)- Originally intended to be the Empress and the Prince Consort's last stop, The Royal Couple arrived in Gaduridos in time to meet President Ana Sánchez who greeted her northern Neighbors warmly. The President encouraged them to get settled in their hotel in Ciudad de Gadur, and then to prepare to be her guests of honor at the opening Ceremonies of the Annual Maratón de Neflón in the Natatorium Nacional. During the opening ceremonies, which included a Parade of Contestants, as well as several Gaduri music acts, all of whom were known to the Empress. "Kalistanis import a lot of Gaduri music," said Vespa, who was covering the event. "Of course, the largest national acts will be well known by the Empress, who herself traces lineage back to Gaduridos." Besides attending the games in Ciudad de Gaduri and the surrounding environs, the Empress and President casually discussed Pan-Seleyan affairs and ways to increase trade volume between the two close allies. "The Empress considers maintaining a healthy relationship with Gaduridos to be of paramount importance," said Vespa. "Gaduridos is Kalistan's largest trading partner outside of AESA nations, and as Kalistan gets its feet back under it in the energy sector, while laying the ground work for a more permissive investment environment, the Empire will be looking closely at Gaduridos and doing what it can to welcome the Gaduris to Kalistan, with the possible aim of making Kalistan more attractive than Gaduridos' more distant partners." For the time being, the Empress and Prince Consort stayed very close with their Gaduri Hosts the entire stay, and departed Gaduridos after 4 days to head to Lodamun.
15. Lodamun (1 Day)- Not an official stop on the trip, the Kalistani Empress wanted to swing through Kalistan's Northern neighbor to discuss the potential of increasing the number of transit links between Kalistan and Lodamun to facilitate increased volume of Trade. "Lodamun seems to be in growth mode," said Ms. Vespa, who followed the Empress to Lodamun. "I imagine that given the non-existence of barriers to movement and trade between Kalistan and Lodamun, Her Imperial Majesty would suggest increasing trade volume, especially as Kalistan begins coming out of the energy drought it has been in since before the Empress Nicolette took the throne." Discussions were behind closed doors, and there was no indication to the Press that any decision was arrived at between the Empress and representatives of the Lodamun Government.
Upon returning to Eveari, the Empress gave a brief statement,
Quote:"We have accomplished our mission of sharing a message of goodwill and cooperation to Terra, and now, we will spend the next few weeks both decompressing with our Husband, and debriefing with various agencies. We have taken copious notes of our interactions during this trip and they shall all serve Our Government as we proceed with our policies. We thank all here at home for their attention to our world tour and hope that the impression of the Kalistani People remains favorable toward those we visited and those who hosted us in their nations."
The total trip took 54 days, including eight full days spent in transit. Over this time, the Empress travelled nearly 43,000 Miles, as the crow flies, averaging nearly 790 miles a day, making her average transit speed to be about 33 miles an hour(!) While Her Imperial Majesty rarely leaves Kalistan, this around the world trip marks the most significant voyage for a Kalistani Head of State ever, and includes a number of major firsts, including the first visit of any Kalistani Head of State to Luthori. We welcome her Home, after loaning her to the people of the world for nearly two full months.

David Marquez-Villanueva Named head of IBSI
New Top Spy former head of crypto development at KalMD
Kaliburg, Grand Duchy of Ananto
March 17, 5512
David Marquez delivers lecture last fall on Cyber threats and Kalistani Response in Kaliburg
Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Nicolette II Ananto has named former KalMD executive David Marquez-Villanueva to be the head of the re-authorized Imperial Bureau of Security Information. Marquez will also receive a peerage in the AOGS, becoming a Knight-Commander this Summer. Marquez, hailing from Sulari, formerly led up the R&D program in the Crypto Department at KalMD, and is responsible for several important surveillance upgrades that are currently being installed on Kalistani regular naval vessels. Marquez becomes the first Director of Security Information in the modern era, and will head up Her Imperial Majesty's efforts to establish an Information Network throughout Terra.
"My first and most important task," said Marquez as he accepted the nomination, "is to ensure that Her Imperial Majesty is the most informed Head of State in the world. There should not be a fly buzzing anywhere that Her Imperial Majesty cannot find out about it. Only through advance knowledge of the movements of Kalistan's enemies, and friends, for often they look exactly alike, can Kalistan possibly mount an adequate defense of its shores, and resist the movements of revolutionaries and radicals that threaten other nations as we speak. It is my privilege and honor to serve Her Imperial Majesty in this regard, and I would rather sacrifice myself, personally and professionally, than let her down by failing in my duty."
The knowledge and understanding that Marquez brings of high level cryptology signals the direction that the Bureau will take in the coming years. "There are weaknesses in all systems," said Marquez last fall, when discussing the various cyber threats in the world at Kaliburg Polytechnic. "They are obvious flaws to everyone who knows where to look for them, except, ironically, the ones who create them. My company can turn this to our advantage, but listening to the right stations and frequencies at the right times, and knowing, on a theoretical basis, how the systems work, so that any additional security measure someone adds to their transmissions while looking to do the Empire, will allow us to easily scrape off those kind of counter-measures like so many layers of old paint on a wall. With the right tools and experience, removing those layers becomes very easy, and almost enjoyable." Marquez went on to suggest that there is no such thing as a perfectly secure form of communication. "We can even see how people act which betray the ideas in their head. If you can read their body language, it is amazing what information that they would prefer to stay secret, that they instead basically blab right out to you. The trick is seeing the signal in the noise."
While Marquez said this week during his acceptance speech that he intends the IBSI to be purely benign, he added a caveat: "... especially toward friendly nations. We want to put our friends on notice that Kalistanis see allies as part of our National Defense doctrine. Keeping allies forestalls invasion. I have no doubt that the work I hope to do in the Bureau will be of as much value to our friends as it is to our Empress. So long as they remain friends." IBSI has been provided a budget of ₭6.5 Billion for the coming year to set up its Headquarters, begin recruiting, and begin operating. The majority of the accountability lies outside the public scope, though the Bureau is accountable to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, and ultimately the Empress, who has reportedly given Marquez carte blanche provided he stay within the law. "I am required to make an annual report to the National Assembly, and will meet regularly with both the Chancellor and Her Imperial Majesty," said Marquez. "With them, I will be absolutely transparent and candid. But if I am in the papers a lot, that's probably not a good sign. So don't expect to see me at a lot of public hearings."

MoCo XR-12 breaks Kalistani Land Speed Record
Electric concept car hits 282 MPH
Reynoldia, Duchy of Suldanor
April 30, 5512
MoCo XR-12 driven by Monica Brisco, hits 282 miles per hour
The Kalistani Motor Company's XR-19 broke the land speed record for electric motors this week in Reynoldia. The concept car was built to demonstrate the mechanical capabilities of the new MoCo EM68 motor. The previous record, produced by the MoCo EV-95 using the EM46 motor, was 233 mph and has held for 29 years. The EM68 powerplant produces right around 2600hp. The XR-19, produced in the Sulari Plant, weighs 960kg (2168lbs), has an aluminum body and a carbon fiber chassis to reduce weight and in ideal conditions, can accelerate from 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. It was driven by Monica Brisco, from Kaliburg.
"We wanted to demonstrate the abilities of our electric motors," said Bradley Mindenhall, one of the lead designers of the XR-19. "MoCo is one of the main automobile manufacturers in Kalistan, and now that our electric generation resources are coming back online, Kalistanis are going to be buying new electric cars. We want to show that MoCo is capable to serve the full range of consumer demands, from the soccer moms and sedan drivers to the folks who demand a little more performance out of their vehicles. MoCo is poised to launch a new line of performance vehicles, and is likely to move into a more dominant position in the Kalistani Market."
While the XR-19 is not for sale to the general public, MoCo is indeed producing a consumer alternative that features the EM68. "Our first design will be a 2 door coupe, which will hit a top speed of 210 mph, will carry a battery bank that will provide 350 miles on a single charge, and will feature a luxury interior. The new EA-250 should hit Kalistani markets in 5516.

Robert F. Kennedy Wrote:Her Majesty, Empress Nicolette II and Prince-Consort Bjorn make first visit in Luthori; marking first visit from Kalistani monarchs in Luthori.
In occassion of the Sovereign's Coronation, Her Majesty, Nicolette II of Kalistan and her husband, Prince-Consort Bjorn made, as a part of their worldwide trip, a passage by Luthori; marking this visit as the first ever that has been done by a sitting Kalistani monarch in the Artanian nation.
15th, June 5511.
![[Image: buckingham-palace-getty-jpg.jpg]](https://img.static-rmg.be/a/view/q75/w962/h503/4583930/buckingham-palace-getty-jpg.jpg)
Fort William, Principality of Orange, Luthori - Ever since the exchange of ambassadors between Luthori and Kalistan, which begun with the Luthorian Prime Minister, Andrew Meyer's visit in Kalistan and the subsuquent announcement from Foreign Minister Delgado [Kalistan] of the appointment of Dame Michelle Flores-Ananto as Ambassador to Luthori. An appointment approved by both Fort William and Kaliburg with Dame Flores-Ananto's meeting with the then-Prince Charles, for her formal introduction at the Orange Palace. Introduction which was followed with Prince Andrew's appointment to Kalistan and his formal introduction to the Kalistani Empress. Some might say that we [Luthori and Kalistan] have come from a long way before coming in the current level of relation enjoyed between both countries. Although, many would point out to the diplomacy played between both government since the 5480s, while this "building-up" was met with hickups, these were ultimately successful thanks to one special attribute shared in both countries, music. It is undenyable that Kalistan and Luthori's bilateral relations could not have been so successful thanks to their shared love of music. From the "Starving Artists" in the 5490s, to the "Chiefs" in the 5500s, Luthori-Kalistani bilateral relations obviously took an hit for the better with this form of diplomacy, as well as activity from both sides, which was once thought to be the reason for the downfall of the first attempts at reconcillation, as the Empress Nicolette, First of Her Name, denounced in one of her speeches at the National Assembly, the one-sided situation of that "reconcillation and normalization attempt". Since then, the Luthorian Government has made one of their upmost priorities to make amends with Kalistan, something that has been done during either the tenure as Foreign Secretary or Prime Minister of Andrew Meyer, Marquess of Rosemary, who since day one was one of the main backers for the "normalization" process.
All of this long process, culminated into this, the very first visit from a sitting Kalistani monarch into the heartland of their former enemy in the Holy Luthori Empire. This visit wasn't for anything though. The Empress of Kalistan and her husband came firstly to Luthori to see the status of Luthori-Kalistani relations in the second bilateral partner of that partnership: Luthori. And also to assist in-person to the Coronation of the Emperor at the St-Richard Cathedral. This visit come into the context of a world tour, announced by Kalistani Foreign Minister Delgado back in February 5511. According to the Kalistani newspaper' "Republican Times", which also covered the visit by an editorial published recently, Their Majesties seemed to have enjoyed their voyage into the Luthorian Empire.
First of all, Their Majesties were greeted at their arrival by the Luthorian Foreign Secretary, Alfred Stawberry, with whom they had some "light chat" at their arrival at the Marlington [Fort William] International Airport, since they've arrived at 2 p.m. [Luthorian Time] (8 to 9 p.m. in Kalistan), their arrival was not going unnoticed, what is considered to one of the most well-known royal couple in the entire world was quickly surrounded by many, many, people at the airport, whether they are fans, just tourists, or even just curious, everyone wanted a photo or an autograph from the two royal celebrities. This state of affairs encouraged Foreign Secretary Stawberry to "remove himself from the starlight" and let Their Majesties enjoy their first glimpse of Luthori. The security detail in Luthori was quick to react and tried to restore order into the crowd, while this obviously calmed the nerves of many, this didn't translate, as they had hoped, as a long queue of patient people waiting one by one to get their photo or autograph. Instead, it is the Empress and her husband who welcomed the crowd by allowing themselves to be taken in picture and signing many autographs to the desired crowd. After this first glimpse of their Luthorian visit, the pair was accompagnied by the Foreign Secretary, towards, first, the Orange Palace, where Her Majesty, the Empress of Kalistan [Nicolette II] and His Imperial Highness, the Prince-Consort [Bjorn] met with His Majesty, the Emperor [Charles VII] and Her Majesty, the Empress [Audrey]. The meeting was widely publicized since it was the first time, in years, decades, centuries or even millenials, that a sitting Kalistani and Luthorian monarch met face-to-face. The Orange Palace stated in a small press release the following.
Statement from the Orange Palace Wrote:His Majesty, the Emperor and Her Majesty, the Empress, thanks with all of their heart and on behalf of the Luthorian government and people, the visit from Her Majesty, the Empress of Kalistan and His Highness, the Prince-Consort of Kalistan.
Their Majesties [Luthori] would also like to thank Their Majesties [Kalistan] for this opportunity to better understand each other's cultures, habits, common themes and many others, which were discussed between all of them during the long exchange that happened between all of them during Her Majesty's visit of Luthori.
His Majesty and Her Majesty are thrilled at the prospect of visiting Kalistan in the aftermath of their Coronation.
It is also said that present were exchanged between the guests and their hosts at the Palace, it is yet to be confirmed from Kalistan's part. But, some artefacts, kept by the successive houses of Luthori in the aftermath of the Plateau Wars or North Seleyan Wars were given back to their rightful owners. As for the Kalistani, it would need a statement from Kalistan to confirm the exchange to really know what they've offered to the Luthorian royals.
In the aftermath of their stay at the Orange Palace, they were invited at a reception organized by the Luthorian Government, more precisely by the Luthorian Prime Minister at her residence at the 10 Crown Street, departing alongside the Luthorian royals and passing by many Luthorian monuments, such as the Empress Elizabeth's Memorial at the Mall, where they also saw, the St. Robert' Garden/Park and the St. Robert's Palace, before passing by the Cenotaph (OOC, The Cenotaph, London) where, every year, the country comes around to commomorate fallen soldiers during all Luthorian world since Luthori's foundation out of the Kingdom of Utagia, before arriving at the Prime Minister's residence. The venue from both monarchs signified two historical events. The first being the first venue of a Kalistani monarch into the PM's residence, where she was greeted by Prime Minister Ramsay-Hayden and Ambassador Flores-Ananto, and with an array of journalists awaiting and following every of her path. But this also met a second historical record, for the first since the death of Empress Elizabeth in 5302, a Luthorian sovereign stepped foot in Crown Street, and while it's not to chair cabinet meeting, which is done very rarely by the Monarch, it's still a nice historical record which was broke.
Her Majesty, Empress Nicolette II made a short speech, praising His Late Majesty, Emperor Albert's handling of the Kalistani-Luthorian relationship. Her speech at the 10 Crown Street went as follows.
Quote:Kalistan and Luthori have had fraught relations in the past. It is our desire that Kalistan and Luthori become friends, and remain so, as long as our Reign, or the reign of our descendants shall endure.
A speech full of hope for the two countries' relationship, as Luthori prepares for the Coronation of a new Sovereign, Kalistan would like that the long earned relationship between it and Luthori continues into Albert's sucessors' reigns. A hope that was translated the next days with a tour of the nation by the Empress in Luthori. She and her husband would visit all 5 great cities in the Empire, beginning with the capital Fort William, whom after a nice crowd bath, with many people coming in the city to assist to the Coronation of the Luthorian Emperor (Day-3), she also visited the Kalistani Embassy in Fort William, and some museum retracing the history of Luthori, with some retracing the history of Luthori-Seleyan relations or even the Tower of Fort William, where has seen beforehand, all the artefacts that would used in the Coronation, even the infamous Imperial State Crown. She even received the salute from an entire regiment [14th Infantry Regiment] who happened to be passing on her way in the outskirts of the Tower.
She also visited cities such as Northminster, Alchester, Middenhall or Shipley, where in all of these cities, something took off with her, her interest with the history of Luthorian music, especially in Alchester, where many small groups are performing in the western suburbs (the poorer ones) of the city. During all of their visit, many crowds impromptu created themsleves to greet the imperial couple, with Vespa (accompating the Empress and Prince-Consort) commentating as such.
Quote:Everyone in Luthori must have a photograph of them, a bunch of other strangers and the Empress and Prince Consort in it! I've taken 15 SD memory cards full of pictures myself!
The Empress, as her final settlement in Luthori, made the attendence to Emperor Charles' Coronation, which the "Kalistani Republic" stated as being "highly different from the the simple, austere Brethrenist Cermony that accompanies the coronation of Anantos and the high ceremony, pomp, protocol and opulence of the Luthorian Ceremony". Most likely due to the fact that this Coronation was one of the most grandiose organized in recent times in Luthori, especially with the "breaking" attitude of Emperor Albert and Emperor Henry VI; whom didn't wanted a large coronation, breaking with their predecessors and now, successors. A large coronation was also pressured by the Lords in the Senate, who wanted to show the public demonstration of trust for the Monarchy by that event, something that was mostly followed by the Luthori - and international public.
But, the Coronation will get its own coverage soon enough.
The Times is a foreign policy-orientated newspaper, but also commentating on domestic politics, it's editorial view is considered to be fairly centrist but rightist economically.
