Split in the PNL: the "Istalian National Front" is born, new home of the conservative right
Fulvio Paglini leads the break with 23 parliamentarians: "PNL has lost its values, we will be the true bulwark of Istalian Nationalism"

ROMULA - Fulvio Paglini has broken the ice: in a press conference called this morning at the Hotel Concordia in Romula, the parliamentarian officially announced his exit from the National Liberal Party, together with 23 other members of Congress, and the foundation of a new political entity: the Istalian National Front.

An announced fracture, indeed, matured after years of internal tensions wihin the PNL, in particular in the last legislature. The split comes in reaction of a progressive shifting of the maiority of the party to more centrist positions, a direction strongly supported by a new gerations of members entering the party with a past in the youth wing and organization, but which has forcefully brought out the discontent of the more conservative.

Paglini spoke bluntly of a betrayal of the founding values of the PNL and of Istalian Nationalism, claiming for the new National Front the role of guardian of the Istalian identity, of the traditional Istalian principles, strongly connected by Hosian positions, and of national sovereignty:

Quote:The PNL has chosen to bow to logics that ciclically have put the country on the path of its demise, in contrast with what we believe in. We cannot follow it on this path.

Beyond ideological differences, Paglini also harshly attacked the party leadership for its moral responsibility in the so-called Agenda Satta scandal, which shook the political and business establishment. According to Paglini, “the degeneration of the country’s moral fabric is also the result of the complicity, silence, or indifference of those who were supposed to embody ethical rigor and national integrity”. Thus, for the dissidents, the PNL would have not only strayed from its nationalist values but also lost its moral compass.

The ideological split is not new: for over a decade, the internal debate within the National Liberals has been animated by the clash between those who interpret Istalian nationalism as a vehicle of freedom, pluralism and social progress, a legacy of the centuries-old glories of a great, powerful and tolerant Istalia, and those, instead, who call for an identitarian and conservative nationalism, anchored to traditional value, family and religious values, and an exclusive view of Istalian identity, and which views the earlier interpretation as one of the underlying causes behind the fall of several Istalian regimes, in one way or another.

The contrasts reached today a fracture, ignited by the recent declaration of the party National Committee of its intention to support the immigration proposals made by the government within the framework of the SOMECO, where the parliamentarians who later joined the Front voted against in contrast to the majority of the other PM that voted in favor or abstained.

Indeed, the ideological interpretation of Istalian Nationalism embraced by the National Front it's not a novelty, but developed among the most radical circles since the time of the Union of Quanzar and Alaria and the Istalian Union of Quanzar and Alaria, both of them established mainly by left-leaning forces which caused the abolition of both the Sixth Republic and of the brief Second Empire. With the Second Restoration, this fringe of Istalian Nationalism has been purposely marginalized and somewhat defused, despite having been a driving force for the Istalian Nationalists fighting for the restoration of Istalia, primarily with the aim of political normalization and thus to detach the newly established Third Empire from the legacy of the Military Junta of the Istalian Salvation Front, knoked down with the fall of the Sixth Republic seventy years earlier. But the roots of the most radical identitarian nationalists date back millennia and find their origins in the Fiamma Bianca - Nationalists of Istalia party, the leading and therefore hegemonic party of two Italian Republics, the Second and the Third (the latter transformed into a one-party regime under the Fiamma Bianca nationalists led by Alessandra della Fiamma, who went down in history as the "Mother of the Country" but also as the "Beloved Eternal President"), but also of the fight against the second Quanzar regime of the Hessex, the brutal Kingdom of Quanzar. A millennial legacy that has, for better or worse, also contributed to shaping the country's identity and historical memory and which can give strength, solidity and legitimacy to the Istalian radical right.

The split was surprisingly contained by the leadership, however, given that a hemorrhage of over 35 parliamentarians was expected. This is surprising because Alcide Saraniello, the current National Secretary of the PNL, has proven to be a relatively ineffective figure, yet another representative of the National Committee that has led the PNL for over a decade, a committee itself deeply shaken by the Agenda Satta scandal. Many prominent members and local branches have called for his resignation and a complete renewal of the party leadership.

Rather, the containment of the crisis seems to be due to the work of Roberto Sindona, a rising star elected in this legislature after years of charismatic leadership of the Young National Liberals. Sindona, who has openly condemned the moral failures exposed by the Agenda Satta affair, is now shaking up the National Committee with new ideas and perspectives aimed at restoring credibility, transparency and moral integrity within the party. His proposals, inspired by some of the largest centrist liberal and progressive parties of Istalian history, such as the Istalian Social Liberal Party, Liberty and Progress, or The Alliance, seek to shift the PNL toward a centrist position and revive its fortunes by presenting it as a less radical, more moderate and ethically renewed alternative in social and labor policies, and decidedly more progressive in tone, a path that could also open up new opportunities for alliances for the party.

Thus, the PNL now stands at a turning point. The Istalian National Front is preparing to officially debut on the political scene with a platform that is strongly conservative in social policies, nationalist in its vision of the State and ultra-liberal in economics, aiming to gather consensus among voters most disappointed by the left’s economic policies and potentially undermining the privileged relations between the PNL and D&L.

The PNL, on the other hand, is now almost obliged to find a new identity and moral direction, and probably a new positioning within the political spectrum. Will it be able to hold back the electorate from the rightward drift of the defectors? And will it be able to re-propose itself as a credible and ethical alternative to the left, to an Istalian electorate that now takes for granted numerous left-wing initiatives that have become commonplace?

The National Congress approves the Government reform on Complementary Welfare
Cantalamessa celebrates the initiative: "a Corporate, Participatory and Mutualistic Welfare System for shared solidarity and widespread prosperity"
.
June 5686

ROMULA - This morning, the National Congress approved the Government's Law on Corporate, Participatory and Mutualistic Welfare, approved after extensive work within the Imperial State Council and the relevant Ministries, but which also saw prolonged debate within the majority parties.

This measure is destined to profoundly transform the way Istalians conceive social security, work and solidarity. This reform stems from a vision: that of a country in which the state, businesses and citizens cooperate in building collective well-being, overcoming the historical contradictions between public and private sectors.

Minister Secretary of State Cantalamessa called it "a new social alliance for the Istalia of tomorrow", emphasizing that the goal is not to reduce the state's presence, but to increase its capacity for action through collaboration and shared responsibility. Cantalamessa summarized the reform's objective, which embodies the vision the Minister Secretary is dictating to her leadership:

Quote:This reform is a fundamental step in a journey that aims to make solidarity and collective participation intrinsic principles of Istalia's social and economic framework.

It's a vision that aims to overcome traditional social and category-based oppositions and to make all social actors involved as partners in the collective effort to spread the culture of solidarity and widespread participation in the public good and national prosperity.

The reform represents a further sign of the new direction Cantalamessa and his Greens' Movement have impressed to the Alliance of Change (the governing majority coalition) compared to the more interventionist model of the Moccia governments: it maintains the social democratic foundation, but adapts it to eco-liberal and cooperative principles, engaging the market as an ally in promoting inclusion and prosperity.

The law is inspired by the idea of a widespread welfare system, capable of extending social protection without increasing the burden of public spending, but through a new pact of co-responsibility. The State defines the rules, provides incentives and supervises, while businesses and workers become key players in the management and distribution of benefits.

Negotiations within the majority, however, have not been free of obstacles and tensions. The Greens' Movement faced long and complex negotiations with its government allies, who were decidedly more cautious in departing from the models consolidated under the Moccia governments. According to sources close to the coalition, Cantalamessa forcefully insisted on the need to revitalize the majority's political momentum, noting that the resurgence of opposition in the last election was due not only to the Satta scandal, but also to growing concern over an economic and social system perceived as becoming too rigid and excessively dirigiste. The most heated confrontation occurred with the New Communists, fearful of excessive market openesses. Ultimately, Cantalamessa conceded a strengthening of the state's role in oversight and guidance, but above all, she accepted all requests for a strong emphasis on cooperative, participatory and mutualistic models, which guarantee workers a central place in decision-making processes and in the management of corporate welfare.

The reform is structured as follows:

The "Law on Corporate, Partecipatory and Mutual Welfare" regulates corporate welfare systems, private and partecipatory assurance and mutual funds. It establishes the system and regulates the relationships between employers, workers and mutual funds/insurance companies. It provides Progressive Tax Incentives, with tax deductions and reductions for companies that adopt certified welfare plans, with greater benefits for those managed by mutual cooperatives or employee-owned companies. A Tax Credit for "Corporate Solidarity" is also being introduced, awarded to companies that contribute to inter-company funds for vulnerable social groups.

The new corporate welfare system will be structured on multiple levels, to ensure coverage for all businesses, from large enterprises to small artisan workshops:

Sectoral mutual funds: These are designed for SMEs and micro-enterprises. They will be managed by insurance cooperatives or industry consortia, offering service packages that include supplementary healthcare, supplementary pensions, continuing education, parenting support, and social housing.

Basic mandatory corporate welfare: This will be introduced for companies above a minimum employee threshold, with freedom of structure but common standards.

A key element of the reform is worker participation. The law establishes new tools for co-management and economic democracy, ensuring that solidarity is not only redistributed but also shared. Welfare Co-Management Councils will be established, joint bodies between employers and employees, responsible for setting priorities, monitoring results, and ensuring transparency. Mutualist Share Ownership will be introduced in mutual funds, allowing workers to become beneficiary members, sharing in profits and contributing to strategic decisions.

To support the new system, the Government has planned a package of initiatives to ensure long-term coherence and sustainability. These include:

The National "Welfare 4.0" Plan: aimed at digitalizing mutual funds and corporate platforms, through partnerships with Istalian insurance and financial-oriented tech startups.

The Sovereign Fund for Social Mutuality: a public financial instrument, created within and managed by the Istalian Strategic Investment Fund (FSII), which will provide guarantees and co-financing for private and cooperative welfare projects.

"Solidarity Enterprise" Certification: a public label awarded to companies that achieve high levels of inclusion, pay equity, and quality of internal welfare, useful for obtaining priority in public tenders and state partnerships.

The system has been designed to ensure integration with the National public social security and new company plans and assurance managements will thus be interoperable with existing public services, creating a integrated broader assistance and social security network.

The approach adopted by the reform clearly aims to encourage voluntary participation by the private sector through a system of incentives and the valorization of shared responsibility. The philosophy is to make social commitment competitive, rewarding those who invest in human capital and collective well-being. This structure also transforms welfare from a welfare mechanism to an instrument of democratic and productive participation, where those who contribute also become co-owners of the results.

Cantalamessa presented the reform as a true "second social revolution", which transcends the concept of a redistributive state in favor of a participatory society. The idea is to transform solidarity from a vertical gesture to a collective pact, in which citizens, businesses and institutions cooperate to create widespread well-being.

In presenting the bill to Parliament, Minister Secretary Cantalamessa proudly stated:

Quote:Solidarity, once a duty of the State, must become everyone's responsibility. The State does not abdicate its role, but shares it: it guides, directs and guarantees, while leaving room for social creativity, private initiative and mutuality between workers and businesses. A Participatory and Mutualistic Welfare System for shared solidarity and widespread prosperity.

We innovate, we reinvent ourselves, but we remain faithful to the principles that have guided the actions of this long lasting government coalition: solidarity, justice, equity and participation, because only by sharing the fruits of prosperity together, we can build a fair, solid, stable and lasting society.

Experts and analysts describe Cantalamessa’s vision as a new approach to social democracy, one that blends economic freedom with social justice, redefining welfare not as a burden to be borne, but as a collective investment in stability and national cohesion.

The Crown inaugurates the Great Imperial Library of Romula
Funded by the Crown and the result of decades of work, the new library aims to become the largest in the world and to make its entire collection accessible online
[Image: UQLu6uXl.jpeg]

August 5686

ROMULA - With a solemn ceremony attended by His Majesty Emperor Tommaso V and the highest representatives of the country's cultural and academic institutions, the Great Imperial Library of Romula was inaugurated today, a complex aimed to become a marvel of the cultural history of Istalia and the world.

Funded and managed by the Crown, the library is the Monarchy's latest contribution to the ambitious national vision of making Istalia a universal beacon of knowledge. Already at the end of the reign of Mattia I, a specially established foundation had begun the colossal task of collecting books, manuscripts, and documents, both in Istalia and from every corner of the globe, many of which are ancient or exceptionally rare, originating from the nations progressively reached by the Istalian diplomatic and commercial network.

The Grand Imperial Library is organized into thematic sections covering every field of human knowledge: from astronomy to poetry, from mathematics to botany, from quantum physics to ethnography. The ambitious goal is to create the largest and most comprehensive collection of knowledge ever assembled. Thanks to an agreement between the Crown and the high-tech company VerTech, AI-based software specifically created for the Institution will ensure a cutting-edge archiving system and, above all, manage access to archives and texts.

And the support of such a kind of cutting-edge system will be crucial for one of the Library's very first projects, another extremely ambitious goals: the Library will immediately begin to fully digitize its book collection, in order to made all texts progressively available online, ensuring universal and free access to knowledge, in keeping with an enlightened and modern ideal of knowledge sharing.

Over the years, the project has been overseen and coordinated by the Imperial Foundation of the Great Library, the new name for the institution, as mentioned, established under Mattia I. The Foundation has involved leading academic institutions and research centers, including a key role played by the Enrico Bergson University of Romula and, in particular, its Department of Linguistic Research of the Faculty of Antopology, Linguistics, and Ethnohistoriography.

Founded less than thirty years ago, this faculty is now recognized as one of the most dynamic and prestigious centers of anthropological, linguistic and ethnographic research on the continent. Through the Foundation, the Crown has continuously supported the missions and studies of its researchers, enabling in-depth and detailed study of the relationships between languages and the major language families, with special attention to the languages of the Majatrana area.

Precisely in the context of linguistic and anthropological research in the Majatrana area, in his inauguration speech, the Emperor announced the Crown's intention to promote an academic partnership with the Deltarian Crown. This partnership will allow Istalian researchers to delve directly into the linguistic universe of Deltaria, known for its rich variety of idioms.

Special interest will be given to the Doron, which historically links Deltaria and Istalia through ancient migrations of Doron clans, who arrived in the Sarrentina Peninsula as mercenaries and later became Lords and Kings of various Istalian kingdoms, shaping the country's cultural and linguistic evolution.

With the creation of the Great Imperial Library of Romula, the Crown of Istalia confirms its leading role in promoting culture and scientific research, and in the national effort to make Istalia a global hub for knowledge.

Increased military spending: green light for new jets and nuclear naval program
Cantalamessa mediates between internal resistance and pressure from the Armed Forces. Istalia will invest in Hutorian stealth jets and a new generation of attack submarines
.
October 5686

ROMULA - The Government, barely meeting the deadline, approved the new appropriations for the Armed Forces to be included in the next Budget Law. The measure, strongly supported by the Ministry of Defense and the Defense Staff, initially encountered resistance from the New Communists, who opposed such a significant increase in military spending, which was not "budgeted" for during negotiations, whether before or after the elections. However, after intense negotiations led by Minister Secretary Cantalamessa, and under increasing pressure from the Armed Forces, including the military parliamentarians of the PNC, the most reluctant members of the majority finally gave in.

The new appropriations, identified by the Ministry of Defense as crucial for the "Defense Program 5700", will primarily be used for the purchase of STOVL stealth jets from Hutori, which will finally allow the LHD Invicta to be equipped with squadrons of carrier-based multirole fighters. The development of a naval version of the Istalian F-60 has long been hampered by design problems, delays, subcontractor errors and uneven funding. Exasperated by the constant delays, the Defense Staff, which nevertheless launched an internal investigation, decided to opt for foreign-made aircraft with proven reliability and effectiveness. The Hutorian government, long informed of this possibility during bilateral discussions, immediately demonstrated its willingness to conclude such an agreement. Today, with the official approval by the Istalian Government, the order has materialized.

The new funding will also be used to finalize the procurement of the Ajax AJ495 tankers, derived from the commercial wide-body AJ450. The latest prototype, essentially the final version of the aircraft, has been tested with excellent results in recent months. The funds will therefore accelerate the development of the national hypersonic cruise missile, a program that has been in development for many years and is now approaching the operational phase.

The other main item of the new allocations will be dedicated to the Navy, which will be able to launch a new nuclear naval program aimed at re-equipping the Navy with a fleet of nuclear-powered attack submarines, significantly expanding Istalian Navy's operational area. All projects will concern exclusively attack vessels, as the country has not possessed a nuclear arsenal for some time, and there are no signs of any intention to develop one.

The "Defense Program 5700" is, however, already showing the results of years of investment, research and development of the various planned projects and programs. In recent years, new technologies, tactics and weapons systems have gradually entered service among the ranks of the Armed Forces, deployed and showcased in major annual exercises, as well as during the traditional Empire Day's Romula parade. During the latest edition, particular attention was drawn to the Air Force's new drones, which flew over the skies of Rome above the cheering crowds, as well as other robotic systems for reconnaissance, exploration and rescue missions for both the Army and Navy.

However, the Defense Ministry's requests appear to be expanding, dictated by the progressive evolution of the Istalian foreign policy. According to sources close to the Ministry, the proposal to build a second multi-role amphibious naval unit with embarked aircraft, a "sister" to the LHD Invicta, is gaining increasing support. This proposal is now deemed necessary to ensure the security and strategic projection of Istalia, whose geopolitical center of gravity has shifted toward the center of Majatra, close to tensions in the western part of the continent.

LA LENTE|VerTech launches Veriscope: a new entertainment universe
Movies, series, games and software in a single platform. The Verratti family's megacorporation aims to redefine the way we experience digital entertainment with the integration of Veriscope, Varcade and Vivia artificial intelligence

IL SOLE FINANZIARIO
February 5687 - International Edition

With a grand event broadcast live from Magliano, VerTech Entertainment officially presented its new digital entertainment platform, "Veriscope", marking the entry of the newly formed media division of the technology giant VerTech into the world of streaming and multimedia sharing.

Veriscope promises to unite films, series, cartoons, documentaries, video games, applications, and professional software into a single ecosystem, all accessible with a single account and available for both streaming and download. This ambitious step confirms the megacorporation's rapid expansion in the entertainment sector, following the launch of the Varcade console just a few months ago, with which the new platform will be fully integrated.

Saverio Verratti, CEO of VerTech Entertainment and son of the group's current leader, Manuel Verratti, stated during the presentation:

Quote:Our intention is to redefine the rules and create a digital universe of experiences, where every user can seamlessly transition from watching a movie to playing a video game, or from discovering a documentary to testing new software.

The technological heart of the experience will be Vivia, VerTech's advanced artificial intelligence, now also integrated into Veriscope, a comprehensive virtual assistant capable of providing personalized suggestions, real-time assistance, and intelligent content management.

For its debut, VerTech has already announced a vast catalog of Istalian and international titles, award-winning films and series, restored classics, auteur documentaries and exclusive content from partner studios and distributors around the world. Among these, VerTech Entertainment's first original series, "Piovra", stands out, and the company is banking on it as its flagship for the launch.

The series is a tale of power, blood and redemption that follows the Attolini family, a mafia clan led by brothers Cosimo and Renzo, determined to avenge the near-extermination of their family by other Ndragatìa clans. Set between northern Istalia and south-eastern Solentia, Piovra promises a dense, visually powerful and epic narrative, marking VerTech's attempt to establish itself as a major producer of original content.

With Veriscope and Varcade, VerTech appears to complete the picture of an integrated entertainment ecosystem: a world where hardware, software, AI and content converge to offer a unique experience. The stated goal is to redefine the concept of digital entertainment, an ambitious goal, but one that many observers believe is perfectly aligned with the Verratti group's philosophy: technological vision, control of key markets and a constant drive for total innovation.

The "Terra Verde" plan for a sustainable revolution in Istalian agriculture has been approved
Focused entirely on the agricultural sector, the initiative aims to make it more sustainable, productive, and socially equitable
.
July 5687

ROMULA - After a lengthy debate and weeks of discussions between the government, agricultural unions, and the opposition, the National Congress has definitively approved the "Terra Verde" program, the major reform of sustainable agriculture and livestock farming promoted by Marina Cantalamessa's government.
As the Minister Secretary of State herself emphasized in a press conference, the initiative "brings the green heart of Istalia back to the center of the ecological transition", finally addressing a sector that, paradoxically, had remained relatively marginalized in decades of national green conversion efforts.

Until now, Istalian agriculture, despite being vital and deeply rooted in the fabric of the country, has been only marginally affected by major environmental policies. Progressive governments had focused on industry, mining, energy, transportation and construction, while the countryside has only been touched by experiments and pilot projects, such as those on noble estates, where incentives and funding, however, came from the Crown rather than the State and it was an efforts of the Imperial House to align with the Government's efforts in the grenn conversion goals. Now, with Terra Verde, the government now fills this gap and makes the primary sector a pillar of the new sustainable economy.

The plan, supported by a large majority, introduces a series of coordinated measures to promote the adoption of low-impact agricultural and livestock farming techniques, particularly supporting small and medium-sized producers. But the objective is not only ecological, but also economic, as it aims to reduce costs, increase profitability, and improve the competitiveness of Italian products, without sacrificing quality or tradition.

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development Giulia Lamazza explained during a recent television program:

Quote:This is not a welfare project but an investment in the modernization of our production system, which will allow farmers to earn more and work better, with technologies and practices that respect the land and animals.

The plan provides subsidized financing and incentives for those who convert their farms to regenerative, organic or precision farming methods, and for those who invest in renewable energy plants or smart irrigation systems. At the same time, more stringent criteria and social responsibility obligations will be introduced for large agricultural businesses and large estates: part of the profits will be reinvested in training, community projects or biodiversity protection.

The Democratic Socialists and New Communists particularly praised the plan's equitable approach, which recognizes the centrality of small farmers as custodians of the land and rural culture. But Terra Verde also focuses on productivity and food security: increasing crop efficiency and reducing dependence on imported fertilizers and feed are part of a broader effort for national food sovereignty, which began well before the progressive governments but has always been supported by nearly the entire Italian political spectrum.

The Minister of Scientific Research and Technology, Alberto Esposito, also announced the creation of local agricultural innovation centers, in collaboration with universities and polytechnics, to disseminate knowledge and best practices.

At the same time, a new public label, "Prodotto Sostenibile d'Istalia" ("Susteinable Products of Istalia") will certify environmental traceability and respect for animal welfare, offering consumers guarantees and new market opportunities to producers.

The plan's approval was greeted with applause from the majority benches as well as from the opposition benches of the Hosian Democratic Union, which appreciated the government's willingness to involve the opposition in the program's development and the efforts in favor of small and medium farmers. The liberal opposition was the one that did not applaud: although it acknowledged the reform's pragmatic and non-ideological approach, it raised serious doubts about the initial costs, the impact on large producers, which still represent the bulk of production, and therefore on the state's ability to manage the funds efficiently.

Istalia proposes cooperation with Xsampa on cooperatives and ethical products
The initiative aims to create shared standards, bilateral certifications and exchange of know-how between participatory businesses in the two countries

November 5687

ROMULA - The Istalian government has announced that it has submitted a proposal for collaboration to the Democratic Republic of Xsampa aimed at strengthening the development and promotion of cooperatives and ethical products in the two countries. The project, on which the two governments indeed have been discussing for years, dating back to the Moccia administrations, is aimed to reinvigorate relations and the long-standing economic and trade agreement between Istalia and Xsampa. The initiative reflects the desire of both governments to promote inclusive, sustainable and worker and environmentally-friendly production models, leveraging decades of experience in participatory economics and ethical production.

In Istalia, the Democratic Socialists and the New Communists have strongly supported the continuation of the dialogue, even under the Cantalamessa administration, to complete a project previous Minister Secretary Fabrizio Moccia believed in, based on his vision of internationalizing efforts to build and spread a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable economy. It is also in the interest of the Istalian left to maintain good and solid relations with Xsampa, a socialist republic with a well-established tradition of socialist-oriented pluralist democracy, respect for human rights and, last but not least, a long tradition of green policies, and which has emerged as a key player in the Dovanian area.

The proposal aims to establish a shared definition of criteria for "ethical product", "cooperative production" and "sustainable production", with a focus on participatory governance, management transparency, fair remuneration and environmental sustainability. To ensure the project's credibility, the creation of a bilateral certification with a common "Ethical-Cooperative" label has been proposed.

The initiative therefore proposes a know-how exchange program, which includes training between Istalian and Xsampa cooperatives on democratic management, sustainable innovation and the promotion of ethical products. Bilateral incentives are provided for certified cooperatives, including access to industrial and local development programs.

To concretely promote the products, the agreement proposes the organization of fairs, exhibitions and joint campaigns, as well as the identification of preferred distribution channels to facilitate trade expansion between the two countries.

According to sources close to Antinori Palace, the government, and the left-wing coalition supporting it, see this agreement not only as an economic opportunity, but also as a way to strengthen cultural and institutional ties and consolidate a participatory development model that has flourished for years and characterizes the country's productive fabric.

The government has already declared its willingness to initiate preliminary technical meetings to discuss the operational aspects and details of the initiative, thus paving the way for a structured and lasting collaboration with Xsampa in the field of cooperative and sustainable economies.

Istalia and Solentia begin negotiations for a comprehensive agreement on trade, mobility and investment
The goal is to unblock the land corridor to Majatra, uphold Istalians in eastern Solentia and regulate migration flows with dedicated provisions

February 5688

ROMULA - The Imperial Government of Istalia and the new Solentia executive have opened formal negotiations to define a broad bilateral agreement on trade, mobility, economic security, and cross-border cooperation. The agreement is considered by Antinori Palace as a "national strategic priority" and the recent change of government in the country has given Romula the opportunity to finally engage with neighboring Solentia.

The agreement, for the moment called by officials as "Istalia–Solentia Integrated Cooperation Treaty", aims to regulate transit conditions, specific migration policies between the two countries, Istalian investments in eastern Solentia, where a large community of Istalians has lived for centuries and security cooperation to combat organized crime, which has developed strong cross-border interests over the years.

The instability of the Solentia political framework, the strong autonomy of the tribal regions and the fragmentation of local controls, administrative burdens varying from district to district, etc..., have always been destabilizing factors for Istalia and its relations with Solentia, especially regarding land transit, limiting the expansion of Istalian overland trade to the rest of Majatra.

To respond to this situation, Romula has always sought agreements with Solentia to regulate this matter, but the country's political and social reality has always made such efforts intermittent and, too often, inconclusive. With a new government established across the border, Romula today put on the table a comprehensive proposal: a simplified and centralized regime for the passage of Istalian goods, materials and people, in exchange for a regulated and dedicated liberalization of the entry of Solentian workers into Istalia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summarized the agreement as follows:

Quote:It's not about indiscriminately opening up, but about bringing order to an already existing flow, ensuring security and predictability, and protecting our continental interests.

The migration chapter, considered the most politically sensitive, will include:
  • express channels for seasonal workers;
  • a specific permit for cross-border workers, annual and renewable;
  • facilitated procedures for students and qualified technicians;
  • common standards for the recognition of professional qualifications.
Sources at the Ministry of the Interior define the agreement as "a targeted harmonization, necessary to manage in an orderly manner the flows that already impact our labor market".

The draft agreement, furthemore, dedicates an entire chapter to the protection of the Istalians in eastern Solentia, currently numbering over three million. The area, considered one of the most stable in the country, boasts GDP and services levels above the Solentia average thanks to the strong Istalian business and cultural presence. The community welcomed the start of negotiations, seeing potential immediate benefits: greater regional stability thanks to institutionalized cooperation with Romula, increased cross-border trade and new Istalian investments, which could create jobs and new opportunities. Stability is important for these communities, often forced to rely on private security companies and local militias. These were used especially during the most turbulent years of Solentia's history, but have remained a constant presence, often linked to criminal activity, another sore point for the Istalian community, which hopes this agreement will also foster cooperation in the fight against organized crime.

A community leader, contacted by our newspaper, commented:

Quote:We are tired of instability and of having to guarantee our own security virtually alone. If an agreement can bring stability and development, we fully support it.

As for Istalian companies, they are viewing the negotiations with growing interest. Energy and mining operators see Solentia as a strategic opportunity. There are small but valuable oil reserves for diversifying supplies and the Solentian territory is believed to hold further undiscovered resources, likely unexplored due to the historical chronic political instability. But eastern Solentia, and its Istalian communities, represents a ripe market for various other investment sectors, including large-scale retail trade, banking and insurance, logistics, private services and technology infrastructure. According to a recent report by FederIndustria, "a stable and federally recognized agreement would reduce the current operational risks that inhibit investment in Solentia".

The announcement of the negotiations immediately sparked a lively debate in the National Congress. The Hosian Democratic Union welcomes the efforts to facilitate transit and specifically regulate mobility with Solentia, but urges the government to exercise extreme caution. The party calls for clear limits: concentrating the majority of inflows on seasonal workers and introducing strict quotas for other flows. The UOD warns of the risk that, without careful management, undesirable phenomena such as uncontrolled ethnic concentrations, ghettoization and urban and social decay could arise.

The National Liberal Party supports the trade part of the agreement, but harshly criticizes the migration aspect. According to the PNL, the migration reform already approved by the government few years ago was "fully adequate" and would have sufficed to introduce a few specific protocols for Solentia. The party therefore fears distorting effects on the labor market, with downward pressure on wages and protections, the risk of saturation of less-skilled sectors, and potential regional imbalances. In both UOD and PNL, also identitarian and cultural issues have been underlined.

Democracy & Freedom was the dissenting voice among the opposition, openly supporting the agreement. According to D&L, the agreement represents a regularization of existing but often hidden dynamics, an opportunity to fill labor shortages in unskilled jobs, which are increasingly being "deserted" by Istalians, and last but not least, a great opportunity for Istalian investments and an incentive for free trade and continental cooperation.

Finally, as expected, the Istalian National Front has fiercely opposed it, in line with its extremely restrictive positions on migration policies and their positions specificially about Solentia. The party openly denounces the risk of "invasion" and recalls the times in which, in past millennia, Solentian and Majatran forces supported attempts to annihilate Istalia and its national identity. The FNI openly speaks of the risk of a "new Majatranization" and promises parliamentary barricades against the treaty, evoking the Patriotic War of Liberation and the sacrifices made to the attempts by the majatran backed Grand Emirate of Quanzar to undermine demographicaly and culturally the Istalian identity.

The Alliance of Change, however, is decided to approve the treaty. Antinori Palace emphasizes that the negotiations are still in the preliminary phase, but hopes, both political and economic, are high. Some analysts, however, are warning the government about the country's internal situation, which, according to some more cautious experts, remains subject to several critical issues. Caution is therefore advised, and above all, consideration should be given to mechanisms that can protect Istalia's interests in the face of possible future upheavals. For the moment, however, the government seems determined to back the agreement, and the first round of technical meetings is expected in the coming weeks.

Protests at the Solentian borders: FNI mobilizes
Tensions at the Trivenditan coastal border crossing as Deltaria is wrong-footed over Istalia–Solentia negotiations

CIMA TRIESTANA - Several demonstrations have been held in recent days at the Solentia border crossings, organized by the Istalian National Front. The party profited also to officially introduce the Gioventù Nazionale, its youth wing, which also includes Nazionalismo Studentesco, the FNI's student organization. Despite having been founded just two years ago, the party is showing remarkable organizational skills and a broad mobilization capacity.

The demonstrations were generally peaceful, although characterized by very harsh tones against the agreement currently being negotiated between Istalia and Solentia. However, tensions erupted at the coastal crossing of Cima Triestana, north of Terebbìa, when a group of protesters attempted to push back several buses carrying Solentian seasonal workers traveling to Istalia, forcing the Imperial Gendarmerie to intervene to restore order.

According to several political analysts, in promoting such an agreement to Solentia, the government may have gone "one step too far" on its reforms over the migration policies. The Istalian proposals presented to SOMECO to increase the members integration and the migration reform of a few years ago had already highlighted a deep divide in the country on the issue. Now, the right is successfully channeling the widespread concerns among the public opinion.

But FNI is not the only one that is profiting of these concerns: the Hosian Democratic Union has intensified its campaign on the migration policies, emphasizing the economic, social and cultural risks associated with lax management of flows. A much more concrete narrative than the Front's slogans, which, according to the latest polls, is benefiting the party, which is narrowing the gap with the Greens' Movement, buoyed by the growing charisma of their leader Francesca Pizzi, who doesn't hesitate to publicly present herself as the veritable alternative to Cantalamessa.

But the negotiations between Istalia and Solentia caused issues also on the diplomatic front. After a news leak from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which, according to sources close to the Minister Secretary of State’s Office, greatly irritated the Head of Government, it emerged that Deltaria had reportedly been wrong-footed, feeling excluded from an unexpected initiative, given the growing foreign policy coordination between the two countries. Sources close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, speak of a limited misunderstanding: the Istalian government has clarified that the agreement with Solentia concerns essentially bilateral cross-border security issues, not related to the SOMECO framework.

Finally, Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Secretary of State Giacomo Martella added that Istalia is even fully available to cooperate with SOMECO for the development and stability of the Majatrani countries and that Solentia may be considered for future membership, but only if adequate economic, social, and political standards are achieved, conditions that should be considered for any other nations aimed to join the SOMECO. Yesterday, Martella, pressured by the press during a conference, explained why it would be "extremely damaging" for SOMECO to open its doors to countries that have not yet reached the necessary political, social and economic standards:

Quote:SOMECO is an organization founded on economic convergence, institutional stability and the ability to comply with common trade and regulatory standards. The accession of a country that has not yet consolidated these requirements would jeopardize the entire balance of the common market and cooperation systems. Admitting a state still experiencing significant structural weaknesses would destabilize supply chains, create unmanageable asymmetries and generate unsustainable political and migratory pressures.

SOMECO cannot afford to integrate partners unable to uphold common rules, because it would mean weakening all the others. These countries must first be helped to achieve the required standards. Only then can we talk about accession.

January 5688

ROMULA - The 5688 general election in Istalia marked yet another test of strength for the governing coalition of the Alliance of Change, formed by Greensì Movement, Democratic Socialist Party and Party of New Communists, which, despite facing growing pressure from a resurgent conservative opposition, managed to hold on to its parliamentary majority. Under the leadership of Marina Cantalamessa, the Greens once again emerged as the country’s dominant force, while traditional parties on both sides of the spectrum continued to lose ground in an increasingly polarized landscape.

Below are the official results of the 5688 National Congress election:

Quote:Total seats: 475  Majority: 238

MdV: 135 (102 civilians + 33 military)
UOD: 130 (106 + 24)
PSD: 84 (64 + 20)
PNL: 56 (44 + 12)
PNC: 28 (18 + 10)
D&L: 20 (16 + 4)
FNI: 19 (4 + 15)
Independents: 3 (2 + 1)

Total: 475 seats (Civil seats: 356  Military seats: 119)
Coalition for Change (MdV + PSD + PNC): 247 seats

The Greens' Movement (MdV), led by the Minister Secretary of State, as mentioned, confirmed its position as Istalia's leading party and the driving force of the majority. Its platform of economic innovation, green transition and liberal openness was rewarded by voters, who recognized the MdV's ability to innovate, combining growth, modernity and environmental awareness, as well as the courage to transcend traditional ideological patterns.

The Democratic Socialist Party (PSD), however, suffered the greatest loss within the coalition. Internal divisions between a faction too closely aligned with Cantalamessa's policies and a more "traditionalist” socialist fringe, seeking a new, distinct identity by delving into the left's roots but with an eye to the future, have undoubtedly penalized the party's electoral performance. The Party of New Communists (PNC), while maintaining a key role in maintaining the coalition, has also retreated slightly: its more conservative social positions and apparent ideological rigidity have failed to convince a segment of the progressive electorate, drawn in by Cantalamessa and her reformist social democratic pragmatism.

In the field of the opposition, the Hosian Democratic Union (UOD) is further consolidating its position as the new leading party of the center-right. The hosiandemocratic party, supported by the charisma of Francesca Pizzi, is strengthening its hold on moderate, conservative and traditionalist voters, positioning itself as an increasingly credible alternative to the long reign of progressive government. Furthermore, the centrist-liberal economic positions are attracting an electorate that appears to have internalized the left's reforms and believes in a moderately social-democratic state that should better protect the country's traditions against the cultural relativism so strongly attacked by Pizzi. But the borders and migration policies issue was the key topic during electoral campaign and UOD was extremely able to harness the concerns of the electorate.

The National Liberal Party (PNL), on the other hand, is the right-wing counterpart of the PSD, the other major loser among the Istalian parties. PNL too is in a phase of redefining its political positioning that has dragged on for far too long. Its position has been significantly diminished, losing about a third of its seats, most of which have been transferred to the new Istalian National Front (FNI), which debuted with an impressive 19 seats and immediately positioned itself as a reference point for the nationalist, patriotic and sovereignist vote, capitalizing enormously on the migration matters but also showing organizational readeness and skills. This is an electoral feat for a party in its first election, unlike anything seen in many decades, but what was really impressive was the result achieved among the military, with only 4 seats gained among the civilians. This can means that the most nationalist fringes within the military have found again a party that represents their positions, but also that among the military too the immigration issue caused concerns and objections.

Finally, Democracy & Freedom (D&L) maintains its parliamentary representation essentially stable, but appears penalized by the MdV's ability to capture part of the liberal and reformist vote, making D&L critique of the left's "statism" less effective. However, it has perhaps captured the liberal vote dissatisfied with the centrist UOD, skeptical of the PNL's disorientation and fearful of the radicalism of the FNI.

The 5688 elections, therefore, paint a more fragmented picture, but confirm the centrality and solidity of the Alliance for Change, now a quasi-institutionalized coalition, and the popularity of Cantalamessa's spirit of renewal. However, the growth of the UOD and, above all, the success of the FNI signal a progressive consolidation of the conservative and nationalist front, capable of capturing the growing intolerance of part of the electorate for the progressive hegemony.
