Minan's went to the polls earlier then usual this year due a high number of resignations from the National Assembly, most notably in the Mahdist faction, which has grown significantly older since the foundation of the Emirate, and later Sultanate of Mina. Many of the Mahdist members in the National Assembly were originally elected in the third wave of elections, which occurred in 5510 when the second wave of resignations and retirements hit the National Assembly. The call for early elections was done by Sultan Muhaajir who ascended to the throne in October, 5554 after his father, Sultan Dhaakhir passed. The elections, held over the first week of August, 5558 were a continued success for the Mahdist who continued to hold a majority in the 300 seat National Assembly; the Mahdist took 119 seats in the National Assembly. The Popular Action Bloc (Dovani Majatran: Kutlat al-‘Amal al-Sha‘bi), which consists of the Majatran Socialist Ba'ath Party - Mina Region, the Minan Communist Party and the Dovani Liberation Front lost seats as a more moderate, left-wing political coalition was formed consisting of the social democratic Minan Socialist Party, the left-wing Ahmadi People's Movement and the Democratic National Rally. These parties formed out of disagreements within the Popular Action Bloc and have formed the "Renaissance Movement" (Dovani Majatran: Harakat al-Nahda) which in the August, 5558 elections captured approximately 93 seats; the Popular Action Bloc took the remaining 88 seats. The Ahmadi Liberation Party, in lock-step with several other Ahmadi majority nations, was permanently banned and the ban was upheld due to their ties to the breakway Nefa Ahmadi Democratic Republic that has existed in Nefa, southern Mina. The Ahmadi Liberation Party is well known for its support of radical, Ahmadi extremist organizations and generally functions as an organizer of these sort of parties and organizations. The announcement, which came shortly after Sultan Muhaajir came to power, announced a move to the Nefa Ahmadi Democratic Republic and condemned the move as "...anti-Ahmadi and anti-democratic..." and noted that the Sultan was "...stealing the title of Sultan of which he did not earn." The elections were relatively peaceful with only violence near Nefa and the break-away state. Quote:National Assembly elections, August 5558

The State Broadcasting Service is an official government media source provided by the Ministry of Information and Communication. HIS MAJESTY, THE SULTAN WELCOMES LUTHORIAN DELEGATION. FEBRUARY, 5556 (BACKDATED) His Majesty, Sultan Muhaajir and Interim Prime Minister Kaleem el-Salahuddin (Mahdist) met with their Luthorian counter-parts, Prime Minister Grapher, the Foreign Secretary Kelly, and High Commissioner Rogan in Wad Mabelat. It was a major move for Mina, often ignored in East Dovani due to the continued instability that has often plagued its constituent states but Mina has remained a beacon of light in the east for many. Despite the continued rebellion in Southern Mina, in Nefa, Mina remains a relatively stable and democratic state in East Dovani that enjoys significant mineral wealth as well as basic reserves of oil and natural gas within the Sea of Carina. In recent decades Mina has made a name for itself as a world-leading producer of coffee and associated products, something that the Sultan has personally invested wealth into; in addition the discovery of significant salt deposits in Mina has prompted the Sultan to be referred to as the "Sultan of Salts" or the tongue-in-cheek moniker of the "Saltan". Regardless of the names, the Minan people have embraced it and the Royal Development Authority has made significant headway in gaining foreign investment into the nations goods, notably in the rare earth minerals that Mina has access to. In recent years the government has taken a more active role in the development of "Western" style governance, and worked towards modernizing a significant portion of the nation but attracting foreign attention and investment, mostly non-predatory investment has been difficult and key to protecting the Minan people. The Luthorian visit was the first signal of continued hope for traditional governments to recognize that Mina was here to stay. The visits primary focus was on the development of economic ties, mostly the Minan government offering to work with the Luthorian government in expanding trade access to and from Mina. Some within the Minan government and political commentators question the desire to tie Mina to Luthori, but Mina, a former colony of Hulstria and Gao-Soto, which was ancestral ties to Luthori and the Holy Luthori Empire seem to be a natural ally due to the current state of affairs in Hulstria and Gao-Soto. The Minan delegation pushed for more investment in the development of "hard infrastructure", a key issue for the Minan government in their quest to modernize the nation. The Minan government hoping to attract Luthorian constructions firm to develop projects of all sorts throughout Mina. The next focus was on developing open communication on regional security and cooperation, tying into the third point of the visit: defense cooperation. While Mina has been fortunate that the Majatran Organization for Industrialization (MOI) has been cozy with the current government, the Minan government obviously seeks different avenues. The one glaring issue facing Mina is the continued existence of the Nefa Ahmadi Democratic Republic (NADR) which exists in the state of Nefa, previously occupied by the Kitemban Union (KU) which the Minan government blames for the current situation with radical Ahmadist controlling a vast majority of the state itself. His Majesty, Sultan Muhaajir believes that this is the first of many meetings, and naturally hopes that the continued interest in Mina grows.

June, 5559 | Royal Development Authority, MOI provide large investment into defense start-up The Royal Development Authority announced a $250m LOD buy into the upstart Mina Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), which is a defense contractor that has proposed a number of projects to Mina and offered several to the Majatran Organization for Industrialization (MOI). The chief project is the development of the MIDC F-1 indigenous fighter program, the program is being lead by MIDC Chief Engineering Office, Wang Zhi-Ming. Wang, meeting with Sultan Muhaajir in early June, 5559 proposed a number of projects and several members of the Jade Society, the Cifutingan political organization, joined Wang in asking for sponsorship of the largely Cifutingan-based MIDC. While the F-1 was proposed, they also proposed a series of land, air and naval systems perhaps the most potent of them being the Jade-class landing platform dock (LPD). The program is aimed at providing Mina the capabilities to project power across the Sea of Carina and developing a system where MIDC provides export vessels through MOI. Ashqar al-Hamdan, the Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the MOI was present in Mina to announced that the MOI itself was designating MIDC as a partner organization and that they would be providing an additional $500m LOD to the MIDC in investments, presenting a significant step in MOIs ability to generate new technologies and partners in the defense industry.

MINA AND LOURENNE AGREE TO INCREASING COFFEE TRADE.
MAY, 5560
Minister of Trade and Industrial Development Bilal Nebehir, alongside Royal Development Authority officials announced a new partnership, sponsored through the Minan and Lourennais governments, regarding the coffee trade. The focus of the cooperation will be expanding Coffea dovanica exports to Lourenne, a fellow Dovani nation, and providing Lourennais companies and corporations access to assistance in handling the esteemed Coffea dovanica. Details about the agreement have not been publicly revealed, they are expected to come out later but the agreement, while culturally significant as Lourenne is well known connoisseur of coffee products, also is a boon for both economies. Mina has continued to develop ties with what some call "First World" nations such as Luthori, Lourenne and others while the situation in East Dovani remains incredibly bleak. Coffea dovanica became a major staple of the Minan economy in March, 5351 when the Royal Development Authority and the late Emir, eventualy Sultan, Emir Zaahir Salaah al-Mahdi pushed to make coffee one of Mina's chief exports. A significant component of Mina's wealth throughout its history has been its rich cultivation of coffee beans and the Ad Damahir Plateau is one of the few places in the world where Coffea dovanica grows in the wild. In the years following the advancement of Coffea dovanica as the "national crop" of Mina, a series of laws were passed protecting the Ad Damahir Plateau and its renewable natural resource. Since those days in March, Coffea dovanica has driven trade with countries around the globe and while control over the plateau remains in the governments hands, several Mina companies and corporations cultivate the coffee utilizing ancient Minan techniques, both imported from Majatra and local traditions and methods which provide a rich flavor and history to Coffea dovanica. A law passed by the National Assembly prevents the sale of any land associated with the Ad Damahir Plateau and any corporations or companies cannot be greater than 25% foreign owned and must sign an agreement to respect local traditions and local tribes associated with the cultivation and growing of the Coffea dovanica, failure to do so can result in serious penalties and revocation of rights to be apart of the Coffea dovanica industry.

November, 5560 | Mina aims to develop new defense capabilities with arms deals from Luthori, ADG.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Emir Jafar bin Dhaakhir al-Mahdi, announced that the Minan government has submitted an approximately $3.15b LOD arms deals to Luthori following a few years of negotiations on the part of the Minan government. This deals come at a time when the Minan government, feeling revitalized from a major visit from Luthori and the announcement of new export deal with Lourenne, is seeking to push further into Nefa and reclaim the breakway state. The arms deal is reported to include main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers and helicopters; all of which will be provided to the refreshed Royal Armed Forces in their quest to reclaim Mina. In recent years the Chief of the General Staff, General Ishaaq el-Bashir (Royal Minan Army), has expanded efforts to recruit both Minans and foreign Majatrans as a means to incentivize growing the Royal Minan Armed Forces. A number of new formations have been formed, and if the arms deal with Luthori goes through, the Minan government will further expand armored and mechanized formations within the Royal Minan Army. General el-Bashir, a close ally of the Mahdi family, has developed a new directorate underneath the General Staff, the Intelligence Directorate and formed the Military Intelligence Bureau breaking it away from the General Intelligence Bureau. The MIB will focus exclusively on military intelligence matters, it will be joined by the Military Security Corps which will act as a special service dedicated to counter-intelligence as well as providing a new layer of cybersecurity and security to the Royal Minan Armed Forces. General el-Bashir also announced that representatives from Artanian Defense Group agreed to the sale of 96 Unionfighters to Mina, worth approximately $13.5b LOD, this includes both Block 4 Unionfighters and the newer electronic warfare variant.

SULTAN AND ROYAL GOVERNMENT OFFER KALISTAN AND LODAMUN TEMPORARY BASING FOR HUMANITARIAN AID
June, 5598
Sultan Safwan has offered the use of Sultan Tariq Naval Base, located in the Sea of Carina, in the southern portion of Mina's EEZ, to both Lodamun and Kalistan as a forward staging area for assistance to Xsampa in the aftermath of the nuclear strike on the country. The base, operated by both the Royal Minan Navy and the Royal Minan Air Force, has served as a base of humanitarian operations in the past, including during the Rapa Pile crisis in February, 5536. The naval base also houses a significant communications hub to the Royal Minan Armed Forces, and in recent years the newly renamed Royal Minan Guard Corps has developed alleged intelligence-gather capabilities on the island. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Attiyah ibn Salama el-Basha (Mahdist) has contacted the Kalistani and Lodamunese embassies located in Wad Mabelat and offered the usage of Sultan Tariq Naval Base as a staging area for assistance to Xsampa, the calls came shortly after the nuclear blast and the announcement that both Lodamun and Kalistan would be providing aid. "In these trying times the best course of actions is bilateral cooperation with those who have an open hand." The Minan government, including the royal household, has offered a total of $25m LOD of aid to Xsampa and has recruited several dozen private corporations and businesses to provide donations for assistance.

CONSTITUTIONAL REVISIONS IN THE MIDST OF A HOUSING BOOM.
April, 5600
Sultan Safwan has signed off on a number of constitutional changes to the Sultanate of Mina passed by the National Assembly aimed at enhancing the administration of the country; some aimed at recognizing the historical nature of the nations indigenous people and others aimed at purely functional changes. The Council of Ministers will be renamed the "Executive Council" and will be the main policy-making organ of the Government of Mina, the formal title utilized by the "President of the Executive Council" formerly the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, will be designated as "Premier" over "Prime Minister", again to differentiate the government system within Mina. Some critics of the government cite the desire for more centralized power and the announcement that the Sultan will be creating the "Ministry of the Royal Office" which will be designated to coordinate affairs between the Sultan and the government of Mina. The new Minister of the Royal Office will be made one of the Vice Premiers (formerly the Deputy Prime Ministers) alongside the First Vice Premier's and Vice Premiers. The move comes at a time as the Nefa Ahmadi Democratic Republic has formally transformed into the Ahmadi Republic of Southern Mina and has expanded its efforts in recent years. "Southern Mina", or the breakaway state of Nefa, has become a hotbed of radical Ahmadi activity following the outbreak of the civil war in Solentia in which thousands of fighters from the NADR left Mina for Solentia to join the Ahmadi State in Majatra and their offshoots. Mina, which ramped up drone strikes and attacks on the NADR, failed to capitalize and resulted in the sacking of Minister of Defense Raafida al-Zaidi for his failures and ultimately his arrest on corruption-related charges. The transformation of the Nefa Ahmadi Democratic Republic faced opposition but the Ahmadi Liberation Party, commonly known as Hatah, secured a supermajority in the National Council of NADR and implemented wide-scale constitutional changes. It also marks the first time in several centuries that Hatah has had a role in a recognized, or at least partially recognized, government. President of the Ahmadi Republic of Southern Mina and Secretary-General of Hatah, Wahid Mazin Nadim, has called for "peace" with Mina and the recognition of their territory, which now encompasses most of the former Nefa region. In the midst of the changes, the now-titled Premier, Faaid al-Radi, announced that the government would be providing $150m in funding to the Ministry of Infrastructure's National Housing Development Commission (NHDC) for the construction of new housing in several major cities within Mina. Mina has remained a stable, albeit slightly dysfunctional, state in East Dovani and has attracted several thousand refugees, especially those from Southeastern Majatra such as Dudmani who have immigrated to Mina following the conflict and relative instability in the Majatran world. The decision to continue to urbanize, notably in cities where the population has been growing but the pace of construction has not kept up with the population growth, has been an issue for the Ministry of Infrastructure that they've been grappling with. The allocation of funds from the National Assembly will be a major boon for the project and Commissioner of the NHDC Humaira el-Elamin is eager to get to work. "We've worked with several domestic and international consultants and contractors. This new urbanization program will focus on developing cities within Mina that require new areas, affordable housing as well as development of infrastructure." Commissioner el-Elamin, while expanding on the program noted that the program also sought to provide loans for small businesses which will be factored into the development of new buildings constructed. The program which focuses on multi-level, apartment-style buildings will also develop suburban areas in which home will be available for sale as well as auctioned off to support the development of newer suburban areas. |
