Dunburg - The results from yesterday's Federal Election confirm what the polls and the experts have been saying for the final part of the campaign: the incumbent left-wing coalition, often called as 'Progressive Koalition', won enough seats to maintain a majority in the Bundestag allowing Chancellor Schneider to remain in power with the same government. The center-right NDZP won the most votes as a party, and will hold the title of largest party, meaning that they'll be given the right to form a coalition first, as is a custom in Dundorfian politics. Chancellor Lennard Schneider was clear: he campaigned on the promise of a second progressive term, and is unlikely to accept a Grand Koalition with the Hosian-Democrats, and perhaps the NDZP is not very interested in governing with Mr. Schneider, who unlike past DSDP leaders isn't a moderate but a progressive. 

The new Bundestag will also have to elect a new Federal President, in 5669, succeeding term-limited President Teitelbaum (TLD): on this, Chancellor Schneider was clear: 

The DSDP doesn't want to grab power, and this is why I decided that the DSDP won't be fielding a candidate for President because we already control, and will likely continue to, the Federal Chancellery. I think this is an excellent opportunity for the smaller parties to come up with a strong and independent-minded nominee for the office of the President. Our party will reserve the right to vote for the nominee we deem best fit to assume this important role.

Rumors suggest that Greens are intensively lobbying its partners to back one of their nominees, while the DRF would like to maintain tradition and nominate one of their own as President. In the opposition, it isn't clear what the NDZP and TLD will do: perhaps they'd be open to back a moderate Green, but if that's not the case, they'll likely run a joint Presidential nomination with a NDZP candidate, since TLD controlled the Presidency for the past 2 terms. The conservative KBP will run Dr. Francine Mueller, the Minister-President of Julstoch, as their Presidential Nominee and invited other center-right parties to join them in order to show the Progressive Government that the conservative opposition is united.

Bundestag, November 25, 5666 (backdated): Former Defence Minister Wolfgang Prawius, Leader of Neue Dundorfische Zentrumspartei (NDZP), told ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER he has informed Bundesprasidentin Karlotte Teitelbaum that NDZP will not try to form a governing coalition in the wake of the most recent Bundestag elections.  Since Prawius leads the largest party, the Bundespart/in first traditionally calls on him to see if he can form a government.
 
Accordingly, it will be in order for her to ask Bundeskanzler Lennard Schneider to form a government.  He is expected to be able to continue the current ruling “Progressive Koaltion” of DSDP, DSU, GPP and DRF.

Dunburg, November 27, 5666 (backdated):   The Dundorfische Rote Front (DRF) Central Committee met at its Party Headquarters and decided it should run DRF First Secretary Karl-Heinrich Muller as a candidate for Prasident/in because DRF believes a call must be made for nationalizing our vital industries rather than have them continue as tools of the running dogs of capitalism.
 
The Central Committee also endorsed continuing in the Progressive Koalition until the next election where it can can join Demokratische Sozialunion (DSU) in pushing for more effective benefits for the Proletariat.

Bundestag, Dunburg - For the first time after decades, a member of the Green Party will return to live in Karlottenberg Schloss: Dr. Anna Freiland-Weber, the Green Minister for Infrastructure and Energy of the Schneider cabinet, has won the Presidential election that will replace term-limited President Teitelbaum (TLD). Freiland-Weber was a candidate of a very large faction: DSDP and DSU, two key members of the Federal Cabinet were joined by the NDZP in endorsing the Green's party candidacy to the highest office, most experts says that she was able to get the Hosian-Democrats' endorsement also thanks to her centrist appeal, other say this is a way for the NDZP to gain influence over the President and perhaps being able to have more weight during the time of post-election Cabinet negotiations.

The Freiland-Weber Coalition could count on 425 members in Bundestag, just barely above the threshold required to win in the first and second ballot (420), she obtained in the end 421 votes, being able to win election in the first round, but with at least four members of the coalition not voting for her. Her opponents were Julstoch Minister-President Dr. Francine Mueller, of the KBP, and endorsed by the TLD who obtained 146 votes in Bundestag and Karl-Heinrich Muller, a veteran member of Bundestag for the DRF who traditionally doesn't engage in Presidential coalition and always run their own candidates. Muller won 54 votes, the entirety of the DRF group.

Now, the President-elect will be officially sworn in by her predecessor and the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on September 1, in the meantime she will be meeting with outgoing President Teitelbaum and all political leaders in the Bundestag. She has also announced that she will offer her resignation as Federal Minister effective August 20, allowing Chancellor Schneider to choose a replacement without rushing.

Zeitung Projection: The Center-Right Coalition Will Win a Narrow Majority in Bundestag

Dunburg - The Nordenhausen Allgemeine Zeitung projects that for the first time after decades, a center-right coalition will control a narrow majority of all seats in Bundestag, reversing decades of center-left and progressive control. Part of the reason why the center-right coalition will be able to claim victory, is the very good performance that the NDZP (Hosian-Democrats) had in yesterday's election: crossing 25% of the votes and gaining 21 seats in the Bundestag. Other partners in the coalition (TLD, liberals) and KBP (localist conservatives) did not increase or decrease much their votes, keeping roughly the same weight they had four years ago. Another factor that contributed to the Progressive Coalition's defeat was the collapse in support for the far-left end of the coalition: the DRF, who according to projection is set to lose about 18 seats and is projected to fall by 2.5 or 3 points. No other left-wing party managed to capture these DRF outgoing voters, who chose to not to vote this cycle, according to a early analysis of the vote by Dr. Helena De Witt, the Zeitung's political expert:

the turnout in left wing areas and neighborhoods of our country's major cities fell by 5-6%, so we can assume that the more leftist members of the Progressive coalition, who usually support DRF, didn't bother to show up after eight years of government. On the other hand, NDZP managed to win back moderates and grow its coalition with especially with middle-aged and highly educated voters in the cities, which resulted in its increase in votes.

Karlottenberg Schloss stated that President Freiland-Weber has called both NDZP leader, Wolfgang Prawius, and DSDP leader, Chancellor Lennard Schneider: according to palace's sources, the President congratulated Mr. Prawius for his party 'impressive victory' and thanked Chancellor Schneider's service for the past eight years, signaling that in the coming weeks she will officially appoint Wolfgang Prawius as Dundorf's newest Chancellor-designated. It's not clear if Mr. Prawius wants to go with the center-right coalition right away, since it only has a narrow majority, or try a Grosse-Koalition. KBP sources told our newspaper that the party is ready to enter for the first time the Federal Cabinet, and has issued a congratulatory message to Mr. Prawius, while TLD leadership said that the left's 'extreme rule' for the past eight years was what caused this result. The big loser of the night, DRF, couldn't be reached for comment, and instead the party put out a statement: 

This election's results are clearly not what this party worked so hard to reach. In the coming months, DRF will reflect on its mission and how to adjust it in order to win back the support of Dundorf's working class. We thank Chancellor Schneider and the DSDP for the opportunity to govern that was given to us.

Finally, in a late night press conference, Chancellor Schneider commented on the election results, congratulating Mr. Prawius and inviting him to the Federal Chancellery once he is officially designated Chancellor by the President. He defended his party and his coalition's record, thanking every party and every minister, concluding his address with these words: "in democracy, sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. What matters for the DSDP is getting immediately back on our feet and start rebuiliding our coalition. It's clear that this job is not for me, and this is why I'll be resigning as party leader next spring, allowing for a Party Congress to choose my replacement."

Bundestag, October 25, 5670 (backdated):ACK PURS1ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER has learned that Former Defence Minister Wolfgang Prawius, Leader of the Neue Dundorfische Zentrumspartei (NDZP), has officially informed Bundesprasidentin Anna Freiland-Weber that NDZP has  been able to form a governing coalition with Team Liberaldemokraten (TLD) and Konservative Bundespartei (KBP).
 
Prawius confirmed that KBP Party Leader Dr. Francine Mueller will serve as Deputy Bundeskanzlerin and Interior Minister while TLD Party Leader Gunther Kranclke will be Deputy Bundeskanzler and Foreign Minister.

On the subject of change, Prawius stated;
 

There will be little change in our international approach from that of Chancellor Schneider’s Administration; we are looking at the same economic and trade opportunies which we hope to bring to fruition.  We are emphasizing Artanian relations.
 
We will put more emphasis on traditional values and strengthening families but this is not to say we are planning any big upheavals. There are always surprises and we will be prepared to meet them. 

We will be evaluating our suppliers of energy and our use of energy to make sure we are on the right track.

Chancelry, August 25, 5671:   ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER sources in the Chancelry report that after discussions between the Government of the King and Kaiser and the Foreign Office, Chancellor Wolfgang Prawius and Finance Minister Karlotte Teitelbaum have authorized Importunternehmen der Bundesrepublik (IdB), the government owned import export corporation, to enter a consortium of business interests to buy Dorvish long term government bonds designed to attract foreign investment..
 
Bundesrepublik Investitionen, AG (BRI) will operate as an investment bank with initial ownership entirely in IdB, DHL Maritime, AG, and Marcks Feiereisin Enterprises, the pervasive diamond marketer.  BRI will purchase a considerable amount of the Dorvish bonds as its initial investment.
 
ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER sources believe the primary motivation for the Government having IdB join the consortium and invest in the bonds is that the use of funds raised includes revitalization of the Dorvish oil producer Northern Oil, an important source of petroleum products for the Bundesrepublik.

Dunburg, May 27, 5672:   After a meeting of the Dundorfische Rote Front (DRF) Central Committee at its Party Headquarters,  ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER asked DRF First Secretary Karl-Heinrich Muller if the DRF thought the left could return to power in the next election, and he responded:
 

The DRF does believe a right majority was a fluke and the next election will produce a left majority.  On the other hand it is highly unlikely the DRF will be part of any governing coalition any time soon.
 
We have not absolutely ruled it out but we feel like our requirements for future participation will be considered too high a price to pay.  We are still working on our possible demands., but one will be nationalization of the war industrial complex.  No exceptions.
 
What the Central Committee believes is we lost ground in the last  election because we watered down our commitment to our principles in order to join the running dogs of capitalism in holding office. Next time we are committed to our principles most notably power to the people.
 
Do want to say the experiment was worthwhile because we now understand our sisters and brothers in the DSU and are reconciled to them.  They are also Metzists at heart but have chosen a different path to advance the cause.
 
DSU will try to influence the enemy while we will be the doctrinal purists clearly stating the goals of our movement.

Chontalen Launches "GrünWerk", the State's First Ever Urban Revitalization Project

Rabesburg - The Landtag of Chontalen, the state's legislative body governed by a broad center-left majority, approved yesterday a new urban revitalization package worth 700 millions of Marks called "GrünWerk", a name that combines the priorities of the four parties that currently govern the state: the Environment, a issue dear specifically to Green Party and the Social Democratic Party (DSDP), and Labor issues, a very important priority of the Dundorfian Social Union (DSU) and Dundorfian Red Front (DRF). The state of Chontalen has a long history of being one of Dundorf's most industrialized areas, in particular the city of Fuchstal, and as a result of this history the investments in green policies or the adoption of community-centered urban policies, as opposed to the industry-centric policies, are minimal. The approved project would feature in its first stage three of Chontalen's biggest cities: Fuchstal, Rittersheim and Rabesburg.

For years, various State Governments, always more or less led by the Left, have set their priority to industry and worker's rights protection in an highly industrial and unionized State. The decline in the industrial workforce and the rise of the services sector, something that has already happened in other States like Dunlake and Oderveld, has prompted the question: what should we do with abandoned industrial areas or poorly designed neighborhoods in our cities?  The newly elected local government of Minister-President Anneliese Schäfer, a member of the Green Party, has found the solution in "GrünWerk": with this project, the local administration intends to convert abandoned industrial areas and other decaying buildings into green homes, in the form of solar-powered apartment buildings, into new commercial areas with a mostly walkable design. Other industrial areas are planned to be transformed into parks with the preservation of some industrial buildings for historical and cultural purposes, and to this end the city of Rabesburg is planning to open a museum, the Museum of Industrial History, in one of the neighborhoods that will be renovated. 

Another area included in GrünWerk regards roads and railtracks once used by industrial plants, that now are abandoned and constitute an element of urban decay. These elements will be converted in the so-called "Green Corridors": bike and pedestrian paths that will go through the city and connect various neighborhoods. In particular it will be the city of Rittersheim to benefit mostly from this policy area of GrünWerk because of the city's vast and abandoned network of infrastructure that served the old industry. "Today's industry in Rittersheim is mostly located outside the city limit and is well served by a Federal Highway, so all the former industrial infrastructure located in the city limits is useless and has the potential to be converted in Green Corridors that will unite the city", said the Mayor of Rittersheim, Franz Paulen. Another provision in the policy package, are the incentives to fund cultural and social spaces within the renovated districts: museums, like the planned Museum of Industrial History in Rabesburg, sport areas, theatres and local markets.

Finally, GrünWerk includes also a set of protections for the current people living in the to-be-renovated neighborhoods: Minister-President Schäfer said in her press conference that she is "well-aware of the risk of gentrification and exclusion that local people face as property values and rent increase too much after the renovations", therefore Chontalen will be the first State to adopt a rent cap for the new housing in the renovated districts, and will also prioritize the current residents of those districts when it comes to assign public housing or other benefits to keep housing affordable. "We will have better cities, and we won't put the poor people that already live there in jeopardy", said Ms. Schäfer.

According to polls, the project is well-received by the population: 69% of Chontalonians approve, 24% disapprove and 6% are unsure, during the parliamentary proceedings, the center-right opposition in the Landtag decried excessive government intervention and an outright "socialist takeover": This sham project is specifically designed to weaken our private sector, punish landlords, and establish the government's control over the dynamics of the housing market. In other words, Minister-President Schäfer is letting the communists in her government to dictate her agenda and facilitate the socialist takeover of this State! We oppose this and we are sure that Chontalonians will see the truth about GrünWerk!", said the local Conservative Federal Party (KBP) Leader, Mr. Otto Lehman. After the final vote in the Landtag, the Business' Association of Chontalen State released a press statement saying: "The newly approved project has certainly interesting ideas to combat urban decay, which is a priority of ours too. But rent controls and other provisions seem like an unnecessary limitation of the free market inserted in there to please the communists and radical leftists (DRF, Ed.). We hope Minister-President Schäfer shows more backbone in the future, and stand up for the economic freedom rights of the Chontalonian people".

Dunburg - There were no surprises in today's Presidential election, which was just completed a few moments ago with the expected re-election of Federal President Anna Freiland-Weber. The current tenant of Karlottenberg Schloss was supported by a wide bipartisan coalition made up by the DSDP (Social-Democrats), DSU (Social Union), Pres. Freiland-Weber's own party, the Greens, the NDZP (Hosian-Democrats) and TLD (Liberals). Other candidates were  Karl-Heinrich Muller, who tried again as the DRF (Dundorfian Red Front) candidate, and Heinz Lohrer, representing the KBP and making history as the youngest ever candidate to the Presidency, aged 35 years and 10 days. 

With such a wide coalition supporting her, it was certain for the President to reach the qualified majority of two thirds in Bundestag necessary to win in the first round of voting, therefore making this electoral process very quick: this means that our country will have a Head of State heading into the October Federal election, something that is seen by national and international observers, experts and even ordinary citizens as a symbol of stability. The President has followed the electoral proceedings in Bundestag and has already returned to Karlottenberg from where she will hold a press conference this evening.

Meanwhile, the Government had a mixed reaction to the outcome of the election: NDZP and TLD have congratulated Freiland-Weber's re-election, while KBP issued a separate congratulatory statement which was judged by experts as "cold". It is unlikely that Dundorf's first center-right cabinet in decades will fall over this issue, considering that the Federal Election is only two months away, but this issue can resurface in the future and affect negotiations for a second-term cabinet. The opposition parties, including the DRF despite it not having endorsed the President, issued a joint statement praising Freiland-Weber's work for the past five years and congratulating her for the new term; this was especially a big victory for the Green Party which once again managed to unite a strong coalition around her candidate and ensuring the party's relevance for five more years.
