Kasaema - The capital of Kundrati, Kasaema, has always been under the governance of the state of Pilgon for the existence of the Union. This is nothing new; in fact, it was so before the Union existed, yet Kasaema was always in some ways better and richer than their urban counterparts in the state. Thus it was that for a long time advocates have called for the Legebiltzarra, our national parliament, to make Kasaema a seventh state of the Kundrati Union.

States in the Kundrati Union have always stayed at five for various reasons up until sometime during the divided Kundrati period. Though Etxea had often been given autonomy and acted as a province-like county under the de jure control of Jildrath since at least the 5160s, it was only in the current iteration of the Union that Etxea was officially given its own province to run itself. During the War of the Kundrati Secession in the 4700s, Peghonai was given its own autonomy, which was slowly chipped away to the point where it was an equal member of the Kundrati Union by the 5100s. Thus, there is precedent for states being broken off from one another for one reason or another.

As Kasaema is the capital of our country, and as said earlier, as Kasaema has been its own power in terms of the economy and in various other aspects, Kasaema has always been thought of as the leader of Pilgon or a de facto state. Calls for a seventh state of Kasaema, as said before, have popped up time and time again. Yet now there is a tangible chance of the Kundrati Union having Kasaema as its own state within the Union, with the Kundrati People's Party joining the fray and calling for Kasaema to be its own state with representatives in the Legebiltzarra. The Kundrati People's Party leadership has said that there were many benefits to a Kasaema independent of Pilgon in a quote supplied to us:

Kasaema, being its own state, has many benefits. For example, they are our capital and have a special say in the affairs of our country that other cities do not necessarily have. Being its own province also allows it to focus on its own issues, and it ensures its tax dollars go to Kasaema affairs and infrastructure instead of having them shared with the rest of Pilgon, which is not as developed as Kasaema. This was historically so as well. In addition to all of this, as a province, they can have representation in the Legebiltzarra, which allows Kasaeman voices to have sway in the affairs of our country without relying on voices from further away in Pilgon.

The radicals within the SDLP, however, differ. In a quote supplied to us by their de facto leader of the SDLP Radical Caucus, Endika Goenaga, they state:

Our country has been torn apart for decades, far-right radical ravages destroyed our economy from south to north, from west to east. Prioritising one specific place or city is last thing we should do right now. Our south is poor, its cities and towns are ruined, and industries on the brink of death. Our north is suffering as much. We love Kasaema, but there must not be primus inter pares when it comes to serious matters like this.

The SDLP itself could not be reached for comment. Given they are the current governing party they are likely to support this measure; however, a vote to officially have Kasaema as the seventh state of Kundrati would require their aye vote. Opponents also cite the fact that Kasaema had been integrated with Pilgon for centuries and that Pilgon often turns to Kasaema in terms of how the rest of the country will react to measures taken in Pilgon. In addition, Kasaema's tax dollars help Pilgon's economy, which is strongly needed at the moment, per them, as our country recovers from Legionnaire rule.

Whatever the opinions are, Kasaema, as a seventh state, has become a hot-button issue of today's Kundrati Union.
