5687 Presidential elections: Valruzians choose their brand-new Head of State

Dawid Kala and Urszula Pawlik advance to second round after no candidate received more than 50%; turnout at 89% shows high interest in election

With 99.7% of the votes already counted, Valruzia will head to a second round of its first renewed Presidential elections after no candidate managed to past the 50% threshold required in first round. Dawid Kala (28.72%) and Urszula Pawlik (25.90%) are therefore the two candidates advancing to the next step of the Presidential elections, after more than 125 million Valruzians headed to the polls to support their preferred candidate. Cezary Robak (20.40%), Amelia Kluk (16.81%) and Tomasz Wilczewski (8.18%) failed to gather the necessary support to secure their advance to second round, and will now be asked to express their support to either of the two final candidates.

Dawid Kala, a left-wing populist elected as candidate from Kampania, managed to win not only there with over 45% of the votes, but came in first place in Gryfit and Ruzia too, surpassing the candidates elected from those Voivodeships, Robak (Gryfit) and Wilczewski (Ruzia). Urszula Pawlik, the conservative academic supported by Forward Valruzia, won in her home Voivodeship of Chynberg and surprisingly came in first place also in Valusia, a victory many political analysts attribute to the progressive vote being split between Kala, Kluk (the Voivodeship's candidate who finished less than 2% behind) and Robak.

During the very same electoral night, Amelia Kluk expressed her support for Pawlik’s candidacy despite diverging platforms, but neither of the other two candidates have expressed their opinion. According to experts, the key for the election will be in what choice do Robak's supporters make, as his 20% result will provide a huge boost to whichever candidates receives them, placing them basically as the winner.

Although some of Robak’s closest aides have hinted at sympathy for Kala’s social ideas, others within his movement have emphasised the importance of maintaining institutional stability and neutrality in the presidential office rather than a more populist vision. Pawlik’s campaign, meanwhile, has reportedly opened discreet channels of communication with several regional and civic groups, including Yeudi collectives, promising to ensure that the Presidency remains an impartial guardian of the Constitution and a symbol of national unity.

In the weeks ahead, both candidates are expected to tour the country and participate in a series of nationally broadcast debates, focused on their vision for the Presidency’s role as mediator and representative of Valruzia abroad. Analysts suggest that public perception of character and temperament will weigh more heavily than ideology in the final decision.

While the outcome will not directly alter the composition or policies of the government, currently led by KPW's Roksana Parzych, it will shape the tone of inter-institutional relations, as many in Valruzia still remember the controversy surrounding Szymona Razem's presidency after her election in 5641, which ultimately led to her destitution. If elected as President, Kala would be the first man to hold the role after direct popular vote elections, whilst if Pawlik becomes the winner of the runoff, she would be the very first conservative candidate to hold office at national level since Razem in 5643.

The runoff between Kala and Pawlik is scheduled for December 1st, 5687.
