5695 legislative elections: Sovereign Valruzia wins, outgoing government gets absolute majority in approval by the citizens

The first elections after the constitutional election reform two years ago have given the outgoing Barela coalition government a firm approval by the majority of citizens, as both members of the ruling coalition – Sovereign Valruzia and Forward Valruzia – have been given an absolute majority of 303 seats in the 601-seats chamber, with a 49.93% of the total votes collected. 

Sovereign Valruzia: 25.27% (+1.78%), 154 seats (+8)

Forward Valruzia: 24.66% (+1.95%), 149 seats (+8)

Communist Party of Valruzia: 22.11% (–3.01%), 134 seats (–20)

Workers' Vanguard: 13.13% (+0.35%), 79 seats (+3)

Our Homeland: 6.95% (–0.11%), 42 seats (+1)

Dignity and Progress: 4.02% (+0.68%), 24 seats (+5)

Valruzian Alliance: 3.17% (–1.66%), 19 seats (–5)

Although the elections haven't seen a huge change in percentage for the parties – and turnout has barely dropped 1% – the repercussions are wide: the KPW has lost the first place for the first time since the 5660 elections, 35 years ago, with Sovereign Valruzia regaining the position they lost at the time. In the case of the other leg of the coalition, the conservative Forward Valruzia, it has achieved its best result in almost half a century, as well as a record number of votes since its creation, with more than 24 million Valruzians deciding to cast a vote for them. For Dignity and Progress, this is yet another breakthrough, as for the first time since 5640 they are not the smallest party with representation in the Sejm, a dubious honor that now goes to Valruzian Alliance, whose 3.17% is its lowest voting share ever and exacerbates the crisis in which the far-right party finds itself, despite its change in leadership.

The Yeudi-based Our Homeland also gains a seat despite minor losses, and for the first time, becomes the most voted force in two counties, both located in Chynberg, the outskirts of Zadornie Sady and Bewierzów. Valruzian Alliance is also the most voted force in one Chynbergian county, while the biggest suprise of the night is the surprise victory of Workers' Vanguard in the Valusian city of Trebegowice, perhaps the most shocking result of an otherwise not-so-shocking night.

But the event that many people were also waiting for was the composition of the new Valruzian upper chamber, the Parliament of the Regions, whose seat distribution is appointed according to the regional results of the general elections.

In this new chamber, the coalition government has fallen 1 seat behind the absolute majority, with 24 seats of the 50-seats chamber, and all parties present in the Sejm have also managed to get representation in the Parliament of the Regions, with Dignity and Progress grabbing one seat thanks to its vote share in Valusia and Valruzian Alliance doing the same thing in Gryfit. 

Sovereign Valruzia has retained the two Marshalls of Ruzia and Valusia, whilst Forward Valruzia has also maintained its Marshalls of Gryfit and Chynberg. In Kampania, perhaps the regional election that attracted the biggest national attention due to its significance – and the results of the latest polls, which pointed to a close race between the incumbent KPW Marshall Anton Sajdak and the Workers' Vanguard candidate, Miroslaw Popowski – have resulted in a final victory for the incumbent Marshall, who has expressed his gratitude for "the firm determination of the citizens of Kampania to keep the region on the right track".

Krystian Barela, the outgoing Chancellor, thanked Valruzians for their support and for positioning Sovereign Valruzia once again "as the leading force of Valruzian politics", pledging to work from tomorrow to build a "stable and trustworthy government", in which many believe will be a revalidation of the current coalition government with Forward Valruzia.

On the table, the main priority of the new Barela government will be a new regulation for Artificial Intelligence in the country, that the government has spent the last two years drafting and hoped for an absolute majority during the elections to pass it, which has been a granted wish.  The external support of Our Homeland will no longer be needed and the party has barely achieved any meaningful influence over the outgoing government during the first time it managed to become and be influential, with many now wondering what use's left for it.
