Schloss an der Hügel - Süddish State Chancellor Gottfried von Donnerschlag has, during a interview with Das Schloss, expressed rare concern over the situation that the national New Verham government finds itself in, indicating that Südland is watching developments closely. von Donnerschlag (OSP) sat down with Das Schloss following the clashes between Südlander security forces and militia's that have now been identified as alligned with the breakaway Gaoist Republic of Central Dovani. The incident, which caused injuries for several officers and resulted in heightened public anxiety, was the first security incident that faced Südland since the civil war. 

von Donnerschlag was clear, having been in contact with provincial and national authorities, that his government will increase the SPF its presence in cities throughout the territory as well as working with the National and Provincial Police in establishing better lines of communication and intergrating command structures in order to respond quickly during crisis. The New Verham Home Guard will also see its presence increased in Südland, primarily within the capital of Schloss an der Hügel.

During the interview, the State Chancellor was also asked about the ongoing economic crisis in Baatrynsentii and what it effects could be on Südland. 

As we all know, the Südlander economy is highly dependant on cross-border trade with Ostland and Sekowo. Borders are controlled by the central government, and we use the Guilder as our currency. A weakened central government and economy will have direct consequences to our own regional economic stability. We have already seen issues with the import of goods, as the Guilder is losing value and a devalued currency is costing our entrepeneurs millions due to increased costs for a variety of industries. While we have the hope that the national government will be able to stabilize the situation, i have already asked by cabinet to enter discussions with  Baatrynsentii to see if the negative effect on Südland can be limited somehow. Think, for example, about a independent Südlander currency that is linked to the Ostlander Mark. I cant speculate on the future, but something needs to change if we seek to keep both Südland and the Republic stable and prosperous.

The comments by von Donnerschlag have sparked outrage amongst lawmakers in the Supreme Congress, with PAP representative Jali Uranenggui calling for the removal of von Donnerschlag for "openly calling for the violation of the Republican constitution." The Khasar government has not responded to the comments, with a spokesperson for President Khasar telling Das Schloss that "the State Chancellor is well respected and we look forward to discussing the future of New Verham and Südland, respecting the constitution and our national laws."

The Südlander government has meanwhile promised to increase heating subsidies to support businesses that struggle due to the ailing economy. Such subsidies are expected to save businessowners at least 400 guilders a month in heating costs.
