GRCD - The New Verham Republican Army (NVRA) achieved a significant milestone this week, successfully repelling an incursion by the Gaoist Republic of Central Dovani (GRCD) along the border with Ostland. This marks one of the NVRA’s first battles fought independently, following the transfer of security responsibilities at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) from Egelian forces several weeks ago.
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, the clash began early Monday morning when GRCD units attempted to advance through the foothills near the Ogedei Valley, a key corridor linking the border region to GRCD-held territory. NVRA troops, stationed along forward positions in the DMZ, quickly engaged the incursion. After several hours of intense skirmishes, NVRA forces pushed the GRCD units back across the border and advanced into the valley, seizing high ground and several strategic positions. After several failed attempts by GRCD militia's to retake their positions, the NVRA dug in and established effective control over the valley. The occupation of the Ogedei Valley significantly strengthens New Verham’s defensive position, offering control over vital transit routes and observation points. At least four villages within the valley are now back under central government control, with the Home Guard and National Police to enter the area and reastablish basic services to its population.
GRCD forces were able to halt further NVRA advances, and both sides have reportedly consolidated their positions. Although NVRA troops were the only ones directly engaged in combat, they continued to benefit from the guidance and coordination of advisors from the Absolute Support Mission, which has trained and equipped the New Verham Defense Force (NVDF) over the past several years. Analysts say the battle demonstrates the growing operational maturity of the NVRA and New Verham’s ability to manage its own border security independently.
Acting President Dogar Altan called the confrontation "a true test for our brave armed forces" and expressed his satisfaction with the result. President Altan is planning to visit the valey in the coming weeks, talking with commanders on the ground and hosting a joint session of the ASM to discuss further progress of the mission.
