Keeping the Peace: President Sanders rejects request by Pontesi to station its military in Likatonia

President Sanders has today met with King Aris of Pontesi and foreign minister Aram Arevyan on a state visit. The chronicle understands today that talks have broken down between the Likatonian and Pontesi government. Insiders have leaked shocking claims that Pontesi's King Aris himself travelled to Likatonia in person to request permission for the permanent stationing of Pontesian military in Likatonia. It is reported that Likatonia's President Sanders immediately declined this request. This morning Sanders issued a statement to put down any speculation.

We have met with the Pontesian delegation today and we reached numerous areas of consensus, on the military presence I will only say that we support the principles of non-interference in seleyan affairs which is why we immediately rejected this request and that this government does not wish to see a rise in militarism in the Seleyan continent. We remain committed to peace in northern seleya. All diplomatic channels between Pontesi and Likatonia remain open for dialogue. That being said we welcome efforts to elevate our trade relationships and to seek new trade opportunities.

The new revelations are deeply surprising, it now appears that the Pontesians sought a military presence in Likatonia, this news is sure to send tremors through the international community and may have significant implications for regional stability. However the President made clear that Likatonia still wishes to shore up trade ties with Pontesi nevertheless.
