CBP enters Mordusian mining sector via collaboration with local firm
Seeking to expand its opportunities in the regional mining sector, Cranston Bay Proprietary (CBP) has entered into an agreement with Trelodge Mining to cooperate on prospecting minerals in the Mordusian interior.

With the Mordusian mining sector finally taking off amidst a series of misfires which stunted its initial growth compared to regional and perhaps international competitors, Lodamese mining firms are seeing an inherent opportunity for ‘first movers’ in the otherwise nascent market. CBP (Cranston Bay Proprietary), one of Lodamun’s major mining firms, announced that it had agreed to collaborate with Trelodge Mining to explore for mineral resources in Trelodge’s mineral interior. In a press statement issued earlier this morning, CBP formally announced that the partnership between the two companies, which had been inked a month prior, had already resulted in a series of promising deposits being selected, which were awaiting environmental approvals from the Trelodge state government for further prospecting. In terms of its maturity compared to Southern Resources and MacKenzie Metals, Trelodge Mining is a largely ‘infant’ operation, with the company being only about 20 years old, compared to the 40+ years of experience both Southern and MacKenzie have accumulated in the Mordusian mining sector. Despite the supposed ‘greenness’ of the mining operation, CBP noted that it was nonetheless enthusiastic about the prospects of becoming increasingly involved in one of the world’s fastest-growing mineral resource provinces. “Whereas other territories are sitting on significant mineral resources ranging from coal to REM, Mordusia remains one of the few provinces which has been extremely open to foreign companies and foreign investment. There is a lot of opportunity to be had in seemingly being the only place that is actively courting foreign mining firms,” Maurice Duncan, a market analyst working for PCH Carville, noted. The companies are reportedly planning a joint venture that would likely house much of their operations throughout Trelodge and perhaps the wider Mordusian mining quarter.

With respect to the joint venture, supposedly named the South Seleyan Mining Corporation, it is likely that CBP will bear much of the costs associated with the exploration and development of subsequent mines, and once/if commercial production begins, expenses will be reimbursed by Trelodge Mining to CBP. “This is usually how it is done in other territories. I would not expect anything different from Mordusia,” Duncan noted. CBP's entrance into the Mordusian mining sector marks the first time a Lodamese firm has become physically involved with the Mordusian market in centuries. Even before the geopolitical split between Lodamun and the Luthorian-led Commonwealth, Lodamese business seldomly became involved in the Mordusian market as the ease of doing business within the country was largely tilted against foreign companies outside of those which originated from Fort William. Although the nation maintains an even deeper connection to the imperial core in Fort William, recent moves to liberalise the nation’s economy have been seen as a welcoming move by both domestic and foreign companies. The nature of CBP’s operations in Mordusia would likely range from copper and iron ore mining and processing to carbon capture related to mining waste. With much of the company’s activities set against the backdrop of the green compact at home, the company is well-aware of the Lodamese Government’s restrictions on carbon-intensive products. In its statement, the company noted that it had no intentions of entering the crude oil business as it had done in Lodamun, noting that its days as a mining AND energy company are well behind it; instead, much of its attention would be mining and processing with the intent to export from Mordusia to Lodamun and other markets. “We have placed the crude oil business in the past, as evidenced by our rapid divestment from the business entirely. Our operations remain limited to mining and processing mineral ores and will continue to be the basis of our business going into the future,” the company’s statement read.

Copper is well-known as a foundational input in semiconductors owing to its electrical conductivity, thermal efficiency and durability. The Green Compact has brought with it increased demand within Lodamun for semiconductors, particularly those for power systems, grid-scale energy storage and electric drivetrains, alongside advanced electronics used in renewable energy installations. CBP’s entrance into the Mordusian mining sector and its focus on copper mining, among other key minerals for semiconductor use, is thus brought into context. This also occurs alongside growing signals from the federal government, particularly the Corporation for Sustainable Development and the Department of Infrastructure and Transportation, that the Lodamun ought to prepare for a more decisive shift towards electric vehicles. EVs require significantly more copper than internal combustion engine vehicles owing to their electric motors, battery systems, charging infrastructure and onboard electronics. Should federal incentives from the Federal Green Finance Corporation (FGFC) or the CSD accelerate this transition, upstream suppliers of copper stand to benefit disproportionately from the resulting surge in demand. “It is very clear that by entering into the Mordusian mining sector, CBP is hoping to position itself as a major supplier of Lodamun’s mineral needs, especially in an era where semiconductors and advanced electronics are becoming increasingly dependent on copper among other minerals,” Frank Gilmore, a reporter for Mining.com, noted.
