Baatrynsentii - The Ministry of Defense has approved a sweeping 200 million program to overhaul the New Verhamese Republican Army’s aging fleet of main battle tanks and wheeled tank destroyers, officials confirmed on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the military’s long-term modernization drive toward its 5420 force readiness target. The effort will upgrade armored vehicles originally purchased during the early phases of the Absolute Support Mission, when the New Verham Defense Force (NVDF) was hastily reconstituted. At the time, participating nations invested hundreds of millions to rapidly equip the newly formed force, acquiring surplus armored vehicles primarily from Nsanlosa, with additional platforms sourced from Nadiya, Deltaria and private defense vendors.
While those purchases enabled the Army to establish an armored capability in record time, defense officials now acknowledge that many of the vehicles were delivered in basic configurations, lacking modern fire-control systems, secure communications and updated propulsion systems. Under the new program, the Army’s existing main battle tanks will be upgraded and redesignated as the NV-42, while the wheeled tank destroyers will receive the designation PaM-NV. The modernization will be carried out through a joint industrial partnership involving Dual Republican defense firms Janssen und Koch and Feuer & Teichmann, working alongside domestic manufacturers Gan Bambai and Luvsan Khuyagt Platformuud.
According to ministry briefings, the upgrades will include more powerful and fuel-efficient engines, encrypted digital radio systems, improved thermal imaging and fire-control technology, and replacement of the main gun assemblies. Additional armor protection and survivability enhancements are also planned. Defense analysts say the program reflects a broader transition within the NVDF from rapid acquisition to structured modernization. Recent initiatives have included the development of the DF-07 multirole fighter in partnership with Bianjie and naval expansion projects led by the Dovanian Security Consortium.
The modernization comes as the NVRA continues refining its doctrine around speed and deployability. Army planners have increasingly emphasized highly mobile formations built around lighter, faster platforms capable of rapid response and expeditionary operations. In that framework, wheeled tank destroyers and mechanized units play a central role, reducing the reliance on heavy armored formations. Still, defense officials say the Army has no intention of eliminating main battle tanks from its order of battle. Instead, the goal is to retain a smaller but significantly more capable fleet of MBTs that can be deployed when heavy armored support is urgently required, such as in high-intensity engagements or defensive operations where breakthrough capability and sustained firepower are critical.
If the first phase meets performance benchmarks, the Ministry of Defense plans to expand the fleet with an additional 18 newly built NV-42 tanks and 20 PaM-NV tank destroyers, bringing the upgraded force closer to full operational standard. Officials say the 200 million allocation covers the initial modernization cycle, with both New Verhamese and Dual Republican firms contributing investment to the program. Field trials are expected to begin following the first completed prototypes.
