Only 3 days after having been appointed as head of government, Prime Minister Schnee requested His Imperial Majesty to dissolve the Imperial Diet at the “earliest convenience” - the Imperial Household released a statement declaring that the Emperor granted that request and dissolved the Imperial Diet and summoned the organisation of elections for the 477 MPs in the Diet for November 29.

In a later address, the Prime Minister justified his choice of going to the polls by wishing to “grant the Luthorian people the ability to either confirm or refute his leadership” by organising an election.

This move was applauded by Cabinet members and Labour Party members, who described the move as a “daring step” by the Prime Minister.

Critics on both the right and the left have argued about the “cynical” nature of the dissolution of the Diet – upon entering office, Prime Minister Schnee enjoyed high approval ratings, Roy Peters Ratings released a poll where it was shown that, out of a sample of 1.540 Luthorians, 64% had a positive opinion of the new Prime Minister. These favourable reviews seemingly emboldened him to dissolve Parliament on the first days of his premiership.

Currently, the Labour Party is projected to secure a moderate majority in the Diet, strengthening the Prime Minister’s political capital and control over his political party. Recent polling placed Labour ahead with 246 and 272 seats in the Diet, while the Tories come in second with 197 to 207 seats, slowly advancing, but nonetheless remaining in their role as the official opposition.

Coming in third, stands the Green Party, which overtook the Liberals in an upsetting poll for the third political formation in Luthorian politics – currently projected to secure between 22 to 31 seats in the Diet, pollsters described the Greens’ popularity as a “source of concern” for the Labour Party, which numbers with the younger, progressive electorate decline significantly with the arrival of this new left-wing political force at the front row of Luthorian politics.

The Luthorian Polling Analytics described the chance of a Labour-led majority government to be 4 chances out of 5.
