Rail workers across Luthori engages in general strike over unsufficient wages and discontent.

Prime Minister Schnee’s government might face another issue on their hand. 

Amid declining influence and weakening following in recent decades, trade unions haven’t seen their best days.

Citing discontent with the “unfair” treatment of immigrant workforce and complaints with salary and bonuses being undercutted, with corporate citing “monetary concerns” as to justify their decision, major railroad trade unions have announced their intention of going on “undetermined general strike”, with the main  on March 1 with a demonstration in Fort William.

It was announced in a joint statement, with Luthori’s main railroad unions – UnionRail, National Railroad Workers’ Cooperative (NRWC), the National Union for Rail Workers (NURW) and the Luthorian Transport Workers’ Federation (LTWF) being a part of this declaration.

“Workers are being treated like shit,” one LTWF spokesperson bluntly said to the press, he stated that “wages have been in total decline for over numerous decades, and we’ve seen the inability, or rather, lack of will, from this government to alieviate our situation.” he continued.

When asked about the fact that Prime Minister Schnee had pledged to “look into their situation, as soon as possible” - when he was asked about their plight during a campaign event, he became a little frustrated, saying that “politicians, with their endless promises, we’ve been promised the same thing by fr. Prime Minister Holian-Keaty, with nothing to show to our members, you think that a simple promise will be enough?”

Luthori’s railway system is currently divided up between numerous companies, notably, the public-owned Imperial Railways (IR) and other private-owned corporations, such as the Central Railway Corporation (CRC), Coastline Rail (CR), Western Luthorian Transport (WLT). Each of these operating a portion of the extended Luthorian railway network.

Today’s controversy started with the Western Luthorian Transport company announcing the suppression of over 345 posts in a large layoff plan aimed at stabilising the company’s finances, the plan also contained the cancellation of numerous local routes, deemed unprofitable by company executives.

Protestors demand an immediate session of “extensive” negotiations between unions and corporate officials over the company’s future, the immediate halting of the controversial austerity plan, an immediate revaluation of all salaries for “more fairness in payment”

No official from either large transport groups have accepted to answer our questions.

Politically, Schnee’s government plays detente, calling the strikes “an important part of Luthorian freedom for fair pay and fair representation” - even as Labour’s role in the trade union has gradually been declining and the party has faced criticism over earlier attempts to distance themselves from such activities.

Prime Minister Schnee himself said that the “declaration of intent of a general strike might negatively impact users on a day-to-day basis,” he nevertheless added that “workers deserved their fair share and must be a part of a company’s decision-making process.”
