President Sandów to run for office under umbrella coalition

Kampanian citizens must approve his candidacy in referendum as the KPW, Sovereign Valruzia and the SPR announce their joint support for his run

Gawel Sandów, President of Valruzia since 5712, has announced his intention to run for the brand new office of Chancellor-President of Valruzia under the new reformed Valruzian Constitution. First elected with 61% of the votes in 5712 as the Kampanian candidate for the 5712 Valruzian presidential election, the 43-year-old labor lawyer and Olympic gold medalist  became the first male head of State of Valruzia never hid his affiliation with the People's Front of Kampania since he launched his presidential candidacy, despite being officially independent. 

In a surprise press conference called early in the morning, the now official presidential candidate announced his resignation from the role of President effective immediately, to focus on his intention to run "for the position of Chancellor-President". According to the electoral reform, the already former President is allowed to do so, but Kampanian voters must approve his candidacy first in a regionwide referendum, to be held in two months from now, in time enough for next year's new general elections.

The leaderships of the KPW and the FLK have announced their support for his candidacy, along with the regional branches of the SPR and Sovereign Valruzia. The current Chancellor, Zenon Golas, has said that he is still "considering" whether to run for the office or not, with already rising calls to step aside and announce his support for Sandów's candidacy. "His result in the presidential elections show that he is a loved candidate, and our best shot for the upcoming elections at retaining a progressist leader at the helm of the country" said KPW leader Judyta Kram. Forward Valruzia on the other hand has criticized the decision, saying that the President has brought "shame on himself" by resigning to run for other office. "This wouldn't have happened with [former President] Urszula Pawlik". "In Forward Valruzia they already feel the fear of not touching any more power" responded from the People's Front of Kampania. "They know Mr. Sandów will give them a hard time campaigning, and they can't face that".

For the moment, Gawel Sandów must now receive the thumbs up from the Kampanian people, his home Voivodeship, to be allowed to run as their candidate. His role will now be placed in the hands of Kaja Kosub of the SPR, until now Marshall of the Sejm.
