Quote:Hao Yaling, Anchor: The Supreme Prosecution Service announced yesterday that Liao My, the fugitive former-president of the Republican Party had been arrested after a joint operation with Kimlien police agencies. Liao My's arrest comes after an international fugitive notice was issued last August for a number of charges in association with the Xiandai bribery scandal. Today, Liao My arrived at the Tian'an International Airport where she will be transported to the Han Provincial Women's Prison.
Enlisting the help of local male escorts, Liao My was arrested by Kimlien authorities in a presidential hotel suite in Nam Thành after an investigation that had spanned over 8 weeks. Police say that they found two illegal firearms, $13m in cash and $2m more in jewelry and designer-wares. Local police also claim to have found a small amount of cocaine. Prosecutors explained that Liao had taken an executive jet from Mudanwan to Nam Thành sometime around 13-16 July 4285, after it became clear that she would be criminally charged in association with the Xiandai bribery scandal. Prosecutors say that they found evidence that Liao My was planning to travel Lourenne by way of Vorona. The Supreme Prosecution Service announced that they will be moving forward with charges against Liao My including perjury, bribery, coercion, leaking government secrets, failing to appear in court, resisting arrest and embezzlement. She is expected to make her first court appearance in June.

Quote:Tao Yaling, Anchor: Businesswoman Linda Wong has been a fixture of Indralan economic news broadcasting for the past 20 years with her show "Wong Weighs In" on this network. The CEO of the Wong Holdings, one of the largest stock portfolios in the nation, Linda Wong is one of Indrala's wealthiest women and most successful business leaders. Wong first became active in politics during the manufacturing crisis of 4255, when she publically joined the Lotus Party after criticizing the RC's "disgusting, dumb and dimwitted neglect of our economy." Wong again made headlines after announcing her run for the Lotus Party leadership in 4270. During that election, Wong asked her supporters in an email to support Huang Zitao as their second choice in the preferential ballot, a move which many credit with ensuring his victory.
Following the election last November which saw the Lotus Party form a minority government, Huang Zitao called on Wong to serve as the Finance Minister for his government. Wong says she accepted immediately:

Wong: I am honoured to have been called upon by the Honourable Chancellor to serve within his government. It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to serve this country which we all hold so dear, and so I immediately and enthusiastically accepted the call.

Quote:Tao Yaling, Anchor: As a heatwave moves across Southern Indrala, Han and Shu have seen an influx of tourists from around the nation. Correspondent Yu Chin spent some time in Nandu, Shu today.
Yu Chin, TNN correspondent: I'm standing here at Nandu Beach, and as you can see there are plenty of people out enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. Many of the people you see on the beach are tourists from the North who have flocked to Shu and Han to enjoy this first sight of spring. Local businesses are thrilled by the influx of tourists, with many hotels increasing the prices of their rooms to match the demand and entrepreneurial locals setting up ice-cream stands up and down the beach.

Quote:Shao Yuhan, Anchor: Dean Nguyen Thanh Thai of the Shi Yawen Institute for Democracy Studies announced today that the Institute will be releasing its second Democracy Index in two years. The last index, released in 4272, sent shockwaves throughout the world with governments both denouncing and praising it. Despite being the most robust democratic measurement in recent memory, it was criticized within academic circles as being short-sighted and failing to analyze various factors that contribute to a truly healthy democracy. The 4272 Democracy Index was based around a restrictive criterion which focused on legislation within each nation across the world as the primary indicator of democratic fitness. Dean Nguyen has pledged that the newest Democracy Index will be broader to avoid repeating this flaw:
Quote:*Video Clip of Nguyen Speaking to Media*
Dean Nguyen: We have expanded both our legislative criterion and also our field of objective analysis based on political culture, media use, militarization, etc. to better reflect the political reality in each nation. What many people criticize about our legislative focus is simply incorrect, in our view. For instance, a nation with legislation which ensures a heavily censored media is simply undemocratic. Likewise, a nation with a very free media cannot claim to be purely authoritarian. We stand by the 4272 Democracy Index and anticipate that the 4288 Index will enhance the democratic debate even further.
