Sharba - King Adane has been accused of embezzling more then one billion Cobur in the last 6 years, funds originally meant for investments in infrastructure but siphoned off to several Royal owned holding companies. The accussations are being denied by the Maroon Palace, calling them "baseless accusations meant to tarnish the reputation of his majesty."
It is not the first time that the young Adane has been under scrutiny. Just two years ago several women within his royal staff accussed the monarch of innapropriate behaviour and intimidation, prompting then Prime Minister Temesgen Natnael to launch a investigation that was promptly shut down after pressure from the royal household. With these newest accussations, public calls for consequences are mounting. Current Prime Minister Isay Kidane has called on the King to disclose the remainder of his financial documents, warning that without more transparancy public trust in the institution of the monarch is in jeopardy.
Those close to the King are noting that he refuses to lend his support to a investigation "to demonize the institution." King Adane himself is known to be a rather traditionalist monarch, believing that decades of liberal rule have eroded the standing of the monarch and as such have weakened public trust in the institution.
Minor protests have been reported in Sharba, mainly by supporters of the ruling Liberal Democrats. It is unclear if the embezzlement scandal will actually be a threat to the position of King Adane or will be one of many scandals weathered by the controversial King.
