Sharba - The Maroon palace is weighing its options as pressure for King Adane to abdicate increases by the day. Abandoned by the political establishment, the monarch is now facing a near impossible labyrinth of challenges as his position and legacy are on the line. At least a million protesters have filled the streets of Sharba and other major cities in the last few months, initially calling for more transparancy and the abdication of the King following his embezzlement scandal.
But as time progresses the demands of protesters have moved from a mere abdication to full Republican demands. Protestors are now increasingly in favor of abolishing the monarchy alltogether, fueled by the relative silence coming from the Maroon palace. Political leaders including Prime Minister Kidane are also withdrawing support for the monarchy, seeing the clear change in public opinion as a sign that change is coming. Kidane himself, speaking in front of the chamber of deputies, indicated his willingness to work with the oppossition in preparing a national referendum on the issue.
The silence from the palace however is not a sign of ignorance but is instead widely believed to be the result of carefull planning by the King and his entourage.
