Sharba - Smoke can be seen from miles away, the morning sun bakes the smoldering piles of ash. In a event that shocked the country, the Dessie district within the capital of Sharba has been levelled following a coordinated artillery strike by the Coburan Armed Forces. The strike, ordered by King Adane himself, was meant to be limited in scale but quickly evolved in a day long bobardment of one of the oldest districts in the capital.
In the last few days republican rioters had pushed away security services within the district, establishing a "people's council" in its police HQ and announcing the creation of a "people's government" as security services consolidated on the east bank of the Amhora River seperating the district from the rest of the city. Seeing Dessie being turned into a bastion of Republican upheavel the King, seeking to create a descisive show of force, ordered the 12th Artillery Regiment stationed at the Cordinius Army Base just outside of the city to target the police HQ and several known republican holdouts within the district.
But as the guns started firing and explosions could be heard throughout the city, it quickly became clear that royalist forces had gone rogue, using the accumulation of military equipment near the district to completely annihalate the republican ressistance. When the dust had cleared and the guns went silent, the burning piles within Dessie showed the horrendous nature of the destruction. Early estimates suggest that at least 1200 Sharban citizens have been killed in the bombardment, with thousands more wounded and now homeless.

Part of Dessie District, completely flattened by artillery bombardment
Short after the bombardment the Sharba Police Force moved into the district, arresting remaining republicans and clearing the streets of rubble and smoldering cars. Those close to the Maroon Palace suggested that the King himself could see the fires from his balcony window, looking horrified at the result of what he had ordered.
While the escalation came as a shock, the pure evil has caused countless of republican cells to disband and go into hiding across the country. Additionally, nearly 200.000 protestors went back home and more are thought to follow soon, fearing similar retaliation by the Royal Junta.
While the Dessie Bombardment has thus shocked the majority of the population, it was a shock that forced it into submission. Bands of Custodes are now roaming the streets and breaking up the little ressistance that is left. After several months of protests, blackouts and severe violence, order is returning to blood soaken streets. The nation is broken, the people exhausted, but the King can sit on his throne and wield his power, all to preserve himself. Darker days are ahead, we mourn for the People of Cobura.
