Nadiya - The first state visit of King Adane II might turn out to be his last after a failed assasination attempt has seemingly left the monarch seriously injured. The attack, claimed by Coburan oppossition group "ānidineti!", was carried out during the King's state visit to Nadiya, his first oversees visit since he took complete power.
When travelling with the motorcade of the Presidential Council a car bomb exploded near the King's limousine, followed by several additional explosions from grenades thrown in the direction of the motorcade. The King's limousine caught fire. Chaos took hold of the scene and first responders were unable to reach the car. When they eventually did, it was nearly burned down. King Adane was found alive but severely burned, with rumours suggesting that he has also lost his left leg in the attack.
Directly after the King was rushed to the hospital, the royal government launched their emergency protocol back in Sharba. The King's handpicked regent, Duke Calerus of Egato, has assumed responsibilities as regent and the Royal Security Directorate has already send a team to Nadiya to investigate the attack. The state visit has been cancelled, with Duke Calerus publicly doubting the security situation in Nadiya and calling it a "hotbed of terrorist activity."
ānidineti! (Solidarity! in Luthorian) has meanwhile claimed the attack. A socialist oppossition group calling for the creation of a republic and a end to the monarchies dictatorship, it has claimed multiple attacks both domestically and abroad in recent months, with pressure on The Crown increasing throughout. Other oppossition groups have supported Solidarity! actions, seeing it as the only way for the now entrenched monarchy to be weakened and forced to the negotiating table. While Duke Calerus is known as a pragmatist, it is yet unclear if he will relax the strong grip of The Crown on Coburan society. With the King likely to be permanently maimed, the future of Cobura likely lays in the hands of the young Duke and his allies.
