Green Alliance of Bianjie sets sights on 'new social contract' following founding party congress

NUKTE: The Tomorrow Alliance for Bianjie (TAB) has formalised its transition into a permanent political force, rebranding as the Green Alliance of Bianjie (GAB) following a week-long convention that saw more than 12,000 members descend on the Nimanggi provincial capital. The congress, which concluded on 14 October, moved beyond the movement's origins as a loose parliamentary group to establish a complex, member-led hierarchy and a suite of radical policy mandates.

The new name, Green Alliance of Bianjie, was adopted with 67.51% of the membership vote, beating out several more radical or centrist alternatives, like Ecological Alternative or the New Alternative, as well as an option of keeping the current name, which received a support of the small groups of membership during the congess. Delegates also ratified a ten-point "Nukte Declaration" of principles with almost unanimous approval, tethering environmental survival to social equity and non-violent direct action.

However, the most significant strategic development came in the form of a General Alliance Resolution, shortened to GAR, calling for the Alliance to approach parties across the political spectrum. The goal, according to the authors of the resolution, is to form a "proper electoral pact towards a new social contract", a move designed to break the evergrowing polarisation between the governing "purple" socialists and the "cyan" democrats. "We are not here to be a perennial protest party", said Gūwalgiya Eldembu, the newly-elected male co-spokesperson and sitting MP, in an exclusive commentary for the Daily Express. "The 'ecologisation' of our economy requires a consensus that our current binary politics cannot produce. This pact is about finding a common denominator for systemic renewal, even with those we disagree with on other fronts."

The party's new collective leadership reflects its diverse base. Irifune Sora, a trans woman and the youngest member of the Khanate Yuan, who formerly defected from the Horizon to the Alliance, was elected as a female co-spokesperson of the new party. Speaking on the final session day, Irifune appeared visibly tired but resolute. "I spent most of my life trying to be invisible just to stay safe", she said, referencing her background as a plumber and vocational teacher. "Standing on that stage, seeing tens of thousands people who are simply tired of being ignored, it is overwhelming. But we have moved past the novelty of being independents. We are now an organisation that has to deliver on the basic promise of making life livable for ordinary people again." Under Irifune's influence, the party congress passed a resolution demanding that the government of premier Semken Tan increase support for the LGBTQ+ community. The resolution specifically targets higher rates of mental discomfort and suicide within the community through state-funded programs. "This is not an identity issue; it's a public health crisis that the current administration has treated as an afterthought", Irifune added.

The administrative weight of the party will be carried by Heshen Aisin Gioro, the former SPP minister who now will be serving as the Alliance's party secretary. Heshen's involvement remains a primary target for the government's "attack dogs," including Minister of Culture and Tourism Li Meifang (TPP). "The SPP will call us radicals, but we are the ones proposing an independent Commission of Ombudsmen to clean up their graft scandals", Heshen said. "We are demanding a moratorium on mining and a public inquiry into the hydropower projects in the Golminunla river basin, because the current industrial policy is a fire sale of our national heritage. If that makes us 'insurgents' in the eyes of the Tan government, then so be it."

The convention was characterised by internal debates between four ideological factions: the mori-no-kodō (Forest Beat) deep ecologist fundis, the komorebi-no-michi (Komorebi Way) realists, the soyokaze-no-uta (Breeze Song) market centrists, and the daichi-no-hibiki (Earth Echo) ecosocialists. Observers noted that while the realists secured many of their market-reform goals, the "fundi" wing successfully pushed through resolutions on non-violent direct action and transport reform, including a demand for free local bus travel for students and the elderly. "It is a bit of a circus, but a functional one so far", said Hiroshi Kaito, an observer from the University of Gemun who attended the congress. "You have people here who have never been in a political room before, sitting next to former ministers. The real test will be the GAExC (Executive Committee) elections and whether this 'sortition' lottery for leadership seats actually works or if it just creates a bottleneck."

Among the rank-and-file, the mood was more focused on immediate local concerns. "I came from the south because the bus fares in Khani are eating my wages", said Taliun, a delegate and factory worker. "I don't care about our relationship with the outside world as much as I care about the fact that this is the first party that seems to understand that my commute and the smog in my lungs are the same problem."

The Green Alliance now faces the logistical challenge of its first by-election in Weshihunduka, where the party's candidate Inoue-Zhang Hailanzhu is currently in the lead against the socialist Alin Moyolo, 47% to 41%, respectively. With another national convention set for January next year to finalise the party's other documents, the GAB has effectively declared the 5723 election cycle an open race. "We have the members, and we have the blueprint", said Gūwalgiya Eldembu. "Now we see if the left and right blocs are actually willing to sit down and discuss a new social contract, or if they'd rather watch the system continue to fracture."
