Sport gain major federal attention and funding

Randworth - Long has it been the wish of the federal government to engage more Kiwi’s into sports and healthy activities, especially football, rugby and cricket which are the most popular sports within the nation. To achieve this goal the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Tourism, Tom Kelly spoke with various great federal sport clubs, sports unions and state governments to speak on a joined sports initiative.
 
Earlier this month the minister announced a plan for a major package of investments in sports by introducing Federal contributions to supporting sports on schools and high-performance sport. Whilst also increasing the funding for the state government for their sport programs and stimulating amateur sport and the finding of talent. The minister in his speech to the House introducing the bill for discussion said that ‘’we must see those potential benefits of this bill’’ noting that ‘’healthcare, economy, community building and human development of all ages benefit from more engagement in sports’’.
 
Late last night the bill was passed with a significant amendment, the bill was surprisingly too mild according to the opposition who, especially Forward Mordusia, found that the Federal government should also invest in helping the construction of new stadiums and help teams get on their feat so that they can participate in international sporting competitions as well. This amendment found large support in the House, only some of Wildlife and the National Party opposing the bill.
 
Various representatives of the major sport leagues, sport clubs etc. have already noted their excitement for the new federal attention to sports. Many of them echoed the ministers positions, saying that sport binds people and is healthy and good for the spirits.
