Reform-Labor & Nationals fail to secure a majority, Forward wins big

Randworth – A disappointing night for the Reform-Labor Coalition as they fail to uphold their majority and lose 25 seats in the House of Representatives during yesterday’s federal elections. The centre-left coalition of the Reform Party and Labor Party have led the country for 15 years now, three terms in total. Two of these terms were led by the popular Katt Wells, the leader of the Labor Party and of the Coalition. However, her winning streak came to an end yesterday. Pollsters have attributed her loss as a mistrust for the mainstream dominant parties in an economic tougher period.
 
The elections yesterday saw the large parties failing to secure the confidence of the voters, as the Reform-Labor Coalition and the opposition challenger the National Party fail to secure a majority. Whilst the Coalition lost 25 seats, the Nationals only managed to obtain 1 seat out of the bloodshed, signalling that their message still isn’t popular enough. With this the largest party (the Coalition) has 157 seats, followed by the Nationals with 132 seats. Showing growing confidence in the minor parties who gained significant ground.
 
Across the country we saw a growing support for the minor parties. Especially the liberals from Forward Mordusia who without a doubt are happy with the 15 seats they won, growing from 26 seats to 41 seats. Making them the kingmakers for one of the two parties to attain a majority. Another party that grew is the Animal Rights environmentalist party, who increased from 3 seats to 14. Not only that the Ikpi Rights won another seat, growing to a record high of 4 seats. The growth of the small parties shows that the electorate is searching for an alternative vision on politics, away from the dominant big-tent parties.
 
It is likely that two possible coalition can be made in this hung parliament: Reform-Labor-Forward or National-Forward. It remains to be seen whom the liberals will choose, but one thing is for sure, Bill Scot is now the King maker.
