For the first time in the modern history of Istapali, the Federal Assembly has failed to pass a budget following repeated negotiations between the rulling People's Party for Freedom and the Alliance for Hope and Change. Prime minister Shingai Shaw has announced that the government will request an emergency loan from the Bank of Lourenne if a budget isn't adopted.
Immediately after the failure to pass a budget, a new economic report released by the High Authority for Economic Development under the guidance of the Central Bank shows that inflation continues its upward trend which started a year go following the catastrophic wheat and rice yields. Furthermore, the Central Bank has warned that Istapali will most likely default on its foreign debt soon if no solution is found for the budget.
As if things weren't already bad enough, a joint announcement from the Museum of Archeological History and the Museum of Arts was realized announcing the closure of the those two museums for an "indeterminate period of time" due to low visits and the lack of funds traditionally allocated to them by the Ministry for Culture and Arts. The closure of those two museums is a huge blow to Istapali's tourism sector as it is a major source of income for the country that already relies on foreign tourists to dump money on its economy.
Furthermore, the Bank of Lourenne openly refused an emergency 15 billion CFR loan on the basis of Istapali lacking a budget and its foreign debt already making up 130% of its GDP. The news sent shockwaves across Istapali's financial world, plunging the already fragile stock market in Namaji into free fall as experts repeat their gloomy vision for the country's future and people selling their stocks in mass to try and save their finances.
Trying to calm down the situation, Finance Minister Diliza Mgijima said that Istapali is "far from defaulting on its debt" and that "Me and the rest of the federal government are working tirelessly on finding a solution to addressing the predicament we're in." Even tho the message was meant to reassure the population, it only worsened things as many don't believe what the government is saying given the repeated corruption scandals involving them.
