A brief overview of our Likatonian 5588 election candidates.
National Democratic Party (80 seats)
The national democratic party is a secular, moderately progressive party who believe in permissive civil rights and support the regulation of the economy. Their stance on climate change is one of treating it as an upmost priority. They feel they should have a large interaction with the wider Terran world. They could be described as being a "centre-left" political party.
Free Democratic Party (73 seats)
The free democratic party believes in the slight integration of religion in governmental institutions but do not see religion as a means of crafting laws for society. The FDP believe in striking a balance between lassez-faire and a regulated economy. This party is also considered an internationalist but believe in a small government, however the party unlike the NDP believe in more restrictive civil rights and are conservative. They could be described as being a "centre-right" political party.
Liberal Party (43 seats)
The liberal party are like the NDP a secular, moderately progressive party who believe in permissive civil rights, however they claim to believe in a slight lassez-faire preference despite recent voting records stating otherwise. Also, unlike the NDP they are skeptical on climate change and small-government leaning. They claim to be a centrist party with "centre-left" social policies and "centre-right" economic policies however The Likatonian Chronicle believe much like the NDP they are a "centre-left" party.
Socialist Party of Likatonia (13 seats)
The socialist party are as the name suggests, socialist. They - like the Liberals and NDP - believe in secularism, permissive civil rights and progressive cultural aspects, however they are slightly more progressive than the other two. Interestingly, they are less environmentally conscious than the NDP but more so than the Liberal party and much more focused on engaging with the international community. Unsurprisingly, the socialist party believe in big governments and large regulations on the economy. This party perfectly fits into the traditional "left-wing".
Social Conservative Party (0 seats)
The social conservative party are a new party who haven't faced the voter as of yet and we don't know much about them, they claim to believe in the upholding of religious and traditional values in society and maintaining cultural norms with the guidance of religious institutions. They recently have had talks with the representatives of Yeudi, Ahmadi and Aurorian communities who signalled their support for the party. However, unlike typical conservative parties they believe in regulation in the economy and a large government. As they do not fit into any traditional role, they could be considered as a moderate version of the "third position" which is the belief in conservative and nationalistic social policies and a highly regulated economy with religion incorporated into their beliefs.
Reform Party (0 seats)
The reform party are also a new party who haven't faced the voter yet and so as well as the SCP we don't know much about them. They claim that they are the party that will uphold traditional values but do not see themselves as necessarily religous. They are staunchly anti-immigration unlike the SCP who believe in "tackling the root cause" and believe in putting the nation above all else. They are isolationist in nature but believe in military prowess and large funding of our national security. Some progressives may argue that this party puts a stain on the democracy of Likatonia as they believe that the Reform party are "neo-fascists". The reform party is also highly skeptical of climate change like the SCP but believe in striking a balance between lassez-faire and regulation much like the FDP. The Likatonian Chronicle have come to the conclusion that the Reform Party are "right-wing" or at the very most "far-right" but calls by progressives naming the reform party as "fascist" are baseless.
