While the necessary paperwork had been agreed on long ago, a temporary solution was still in place whereby crossing the border from Vanuku to Zardugal and vice versa was only possible with a visa. Now the time has come: the Kirlmeko Agreement guarantees all citizens of either nation freedom of movement in both. Thousands have made use of this new-found right. Whether for a short vacation or to see which supermarkets have the best deals, the barrier is open to everyone. Only occasional checks to detect any contraband that may be being carried mark a noticeable border.

It is a symbolic milestone in the policy of reconciliation between Vanuku and Zardugal. Thanks to the ambitious diplomatic work of both governments, it now seems almost unthinkable that only eleven years ago a war almost broke out between us and our neighbours.
