President of the Republic Bennots calls for "comity" in new Government Bill

Perhaps it was the heat, perhaps it was the lateness of the season, perhaps it was something else:  But it appears that Kalistan will have a new Government within a couple months.  The President has called upon both the SP and KFPM to sit in government together in an effort to "increase comity" for the benefit of the Republic.  The President declined comment on the situation, nor did he shed any light on the negotiations which led to the breakthrough, but the Outgoing Premier, Phillip D'Angello, stated that the break through will likely lead to some movement forward on a number of sticking points which have thus far gummed up the process.

"The People's Movement has demonstrated a willingness to work with us on ODEN, and in exchange, we have internally decided to work with them on beginning to liberalize some of the nationalized industries.  The details have yet to be worked out, but I think at the end of the day, we want the same things for Kalistan, but we just disagree on how to get there.  Plus, I think there is still some misinformation with regard to how these operations work.  I think once we clarify those misperceptions, we will be able to see a way to work for a streamlined public sector and a more robust private sector.  This is, after all, the heart of the Dual System, and while other Parties may not yet see benefit in it, I am convinced that we can find a way to both do what the People's Movement has been calling for, and as well, to protect the Dual Economy.  We are encouraged by the willingness of the People's Movement to revisit the idea of serving in government with the SP.  I think we can come up with constructive solutions to the issues they are raising."

Optimism aside, cooperation still needs to be tested in legislation.  The outgoing Premier noted that there is some forward movement on ODEN, but stated "We are not there yet." when asked if a final arrangement has been reached.  Additionally, there are a number of issues outstanding which have to be dealt with, and the depth of liberalization is still up for discussion.  But this spark of light is significant in what has been a fairly disasterous first seven months of divided government.  It is something to build on.
