Its a good point and well put about "suffering" from backdating.
One side of me understands about "real life" preventing constant attention, while another side of me also knows that if we have the RP planned out ahead of time, and I know, say that this conflict will be over in say 2 years, because we have a timeline, I would be less opposed to backdating because I know that in 2 years I can RP on my main page that the war is now over, here's the results, and then we can write them as we get to them in the conflict thread. But as it is, I can't participate in a lot of RPs because at least in Kalistan, things move forward, and it interrupts the continuity of the Main thread to have to back date a bunch of stuff which I don't actually intend to print as a retrospective. (for example: I did a few things where I brought in the conflict thread centuries after it happened, because I was printing articles from the time in my main feed as a way to say "We looked at History and found this episode which would have otherwise been lost.")
And since we aren't dependent on the ingame tick and I am personally literally 2/3rds of the way finished with transferring my 162 page archive in the old forums over to the new one, and since we are RPing elections now rather than going by the mechanic, and I pass bills by fiat rather than having to put them to a vote, my objection to slowing the tick down don't really exist anymore.
With one exception.
Say we slow the tick down. I think that creates even less urgency for people to get responses in on time. Like: "Eh, what difference does it make? In two days only a single year will have passed." because while I do agree that a lot of the lag is real life, I think, for myself at least, it becomes easy to get lazy and then to forget that you are supposed to be responding to something. I think at least some of it is also writers block: people don't want to write responses that they think will be low quality, so they just don't write anything at all, and really, no change in the tick is going to fix that problem. Make the tick 4 hours, and people will take 12. Make it 8 hours and they'll take 24. Make it 12 hours and they'll take a week. It's just what it is, so I don't know how much of the issue we have with the tick being too short, if we can say that, will be resolved by making it longer.
Maybe. Yall can could run and experiment and see if the "real life" thing is what is driving lack of responses, or if it is one of those other things...
