The National Electoral Union Sweeps Yet Another Election, Amidst Conspiratorial Accusations From the Opposition
14 November 5633 | Kivonia, Davostag

As the last voting center closes, all media outlets can now confirm that the ruling National Electoral Union (NVU) has taken home all 465 seats in the Riksdag. With a total of 77,6% voter turnout and a total of 9,819,151 votes, this has become a truly stunning election. The NVU managed to gain 85,1% of the vote and 8,356,097 votes, while the main opposition party, the Union for Democratic Reform (UDR) gained only 3,8% and 373,128 votes, missing with a 0,2% margin to enter the 4% Riksdag threshold. About 11,1% and 1,089,000 votes were placed on other minor parties or blank. Many analysts suspected that with the intensity that the UDR had campaigned on and built itself up these past five years that they would at least manage to enter the Riksdag, but it would seem that they only increased with 0,7%. Wictor Rolén, the secretary-general of the NVU, made a quick comment on the results stating that this is exactly what he had predicted, that at the end the Davostager voters will always feel safe with a reliable functioning option.

On the other side of the election, at the nationwide headquarters and electoral rallies in favor of the UDR there is a boiling anger according to some sources. Lena Greger, the party leader, made accusations against the NVU and government of alleged widespread voter fraud and intimidation. No much basis can be put forth on the former claim, but several sources around the country have also claimed that they were intimidated at the voting centers by military police to either vote for the government or not vote at all. How much truth lies in these claims is unknown, as several media outlets observed many of the major voting centers and never witnessed a thing. According to political analyst and historian, Patrick Fäldt, this is a baseless accusation made to fuel anger and resentment with the intention to ultimately engage in violent dissent. Fäldt also points out that the criminal charges against John Greger, the principal founder of the UDR, just weeks before the election day, truly came to affect the Davostager population. In his view, Davostagers are highly suspicious of public figures with criminal surroundings. Despite this, Lena Greger has stated that the severe manipulation in the election, with the arrest of her husband and the alleged voter intimidation, and its subsequent results will be challenged in the courts by an appeal by the UDR. Whether the courts will agree to an investigation is up for debate, due to the lack of evidence as pointed out by the Prosecutors' Office. Greger has also encouraged all who voted for UDR or at least sympathizes with them to take to the streets in peaceful protests to demand justice.
