Hosted by Vanessa Taylor

VANESSA TAYLOR:
“Tonight on The Nation Tonight… A new deal for oil. A Prime Minister abroad. And the Hutorian military family in mourning. I’m Vanessa Taylor… and this is HBC National.”

For the first time in decades, foreign oil is flowing again through Hutorian veins—and the name behind that flow? Dorvik’s own NordOil-Hutori, now officially greenlit to resume operations in the highly strategic and fiercely protected Mashacara oil fields in Falristan.

Located across the icy highlands and permafrost valleys of northern Falristan, the Mashacara fields account for over 80% of Hutori’s proven oil reserves. For years, they’ve been the exclusive domain of the Carter Energy Group, a point of both national pride and unshakable sovereignty.

“In a joint announcement made in Bekenial this morning, Prime Minister Rosalyn Woodbury confirmed a new energy cooperation pact that will see NordOil-Hutori resume its extraction operations in Falristan by early next year.”

Speaking to press, PM Woodbury was quick to emphasize that this is not a surrender of sovereignty—but a reaffirmation of strategic alliance.

WOODBURY:
"Hutori retains full regulatory control over the Mashacara fields. What we’ve done is re-engage a trusted partner with the infrastructure, expertise, and respect for our environmental and economic standards. This is energy diplomacy—not dependency."

TAYLOR:
NordOil-Hutori remains the only foreign firm in history to be granted access to the Mashacara oil fields—a position once considered sacrosanct. The company’s prior operations, halted amid Hutorian and Dorvsiche geopolitical turbulence, were considered a gamble even then. That gamble just paid off.

Sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggest that this deal is part of a wider recalibration of northern security policy, with Hutorian Prime Minister Rosalyn Woodbury looking to rebuild the historic alliances and relationships that once made Hutori a prominent broker in northern politics.

(Cut to Woodbury disembarking from the aircraft in Kalistan, greeting Imperial Chancellor Michael Koenig, and Hutorian Ambassador to Kalistan, Prince James.)

TAYLOR:
The Prime Minister’s visit to Kalistan marks her first official foreign trip since taking office—and comes at a critical time. With peace talks between the Empire of Kalistan and the Kundrati Legion set to begin at Skyhold Castle in Lagard next month, Woodbury’s diplomatic touch will be tested.”

I’m joined now by HBC Global Affairs Analyst Dr. Kendra Ross, and former Ambassador to Lodamun, Michael Caulfield. Dr. Ross, what’s the geopolitical subtext of this visit?

DR. ROSS:
Vanessa, this is more than just symbolic. It’s Hutori planting a flag as the regional power broker. And with Woodbury, they’ve got someone who knows how to mix hard power with velvet diplomacy.

CAUFIELD: The relationship with Kaliburg and the greater Kalistani Empire has been a key foreign policy objective through multiple Hutorian administrations. It started in earnest with former Prime Minister Michael Kensington and it looks like Prime Minister Woodbury will be pulling the horse across the finishline.

TAYLOR:
And finally tonight, a national farewell… to a soldier’s general.

General Beatrice Steuart-Carmichael passed away last night at 66. The cousin to the King, the first female Chief of the Defence Staff in six decades, and a living legend in her own right… her loss leaves a hole in the heart of our Armed Forces.”

She was never one for headlines. But she was always there when it mattered. Tonight, a grateful nation remembers her strength… her service… and her sacrifice.”

“When the world trembles, Hutori steadies. From the northern reaches of Falristan to Kaliburg’s golden halls, and every chamber in between… we’re watching. We’re asking. And we’ll be here when the answers come.

“I’m Vanessa Taylor. This is The Nation Tonight. Goodnight.
