Valruzian National Centre for Scientific Research announces global genetic preservation project
NCBN's "Terran Shield" initiative aims to safeguard global biodiversity
September 5635
The Valruzian National Centre for Scientific Research (NCBN) today unveiled an ambitious new project in collaboration with the Valruzian Ministry of Science and Research designed to collect and preserve genetic material from animal and plant species across Terra, creating a biological backup to protect against biodiversity loss due to climate change, deforestation, and mass extinction.
Dubbed "Terran Shield", the initiative aims to include not just plant seeds but also DNA, tissue samples, and reproductive cells from thousands of endangered species all across Terra.
Dr. Lukas Varnak, Director of the NCBN, stated:
Quote:"Biodiversity loss is one of the most silent yet devastating crises of our time. The 'Terran Shield' will serve as a genetic lifeline, ensuring that future generations can restore species that may otherwise vanish. We have famine, desertification, mass extinctions... and we need to acknowledge and tackle all that issues, many of them caused by our very own species. Therefore, we need to see that we also bear a responsibility for future generations"
The primary storage facility will be located in Valruzia’s mountain region of Chynberg, chosen for its geological and climatic stability in the interior of the country. The underground vaults will feature cryogenic preservation and be fortified against natural disasters and human conflict, with a special military body tasked with its preservation.
The Valruzian government has already started gathering samples from national species to be kept in the Vault, with the construction of the site expected to be finished in a perior between 3 and 5 years from now. Nowik's government has also started to garner support from multiple governments and scientific organizations around Terra. The NCBN has pledged to work with international bodies to ensure transparency and equitable access to genetic resources, with the idea of hiring an international team of scientists to work in the site in turns of 10 years each. The government would also create a law establishing that the ownership of the samples lies within the depositary nation and not within the Valruzian government, to ensure more collaboration from other institutions.
The first specimens are expected to be deposited by 5640, prioritizing critically endangered species. "This isn’t just about storing biological material—it’s about preserving the possibilities of tomorrow," Dr. Varnak emphasized.
The vault’s design will consist of three subterranean levels, each with specialized storage:
Level 1: Cryogenic chambers for animal DNA, eggs, and sperm samples
Level 2: Climate-controlled seed banks for global flora
Level 3: A digital genome library with AI-assisted restoration protocols
Science minister Anastazja Zaucha is set to go on an international tour first around Seleya and later around the rest of Terran continents to gather support and resources for the Vault.
Government to receive authorities from Tukarali
Following the first democratic elections in neighbouring Tukarali, both President Karolina Pietrzyk and Chancellor Szymon Nowik have organized an official reception with the highest authorities of the nation, in order to deepen the relationship and trade between both Seleyan nations.
Quote:For us, it is the highest pleasure to host a bilateral meeting with our neighbours here in Nowogard, following the recovery of democracy in both our nations. We believe this could be the first step towards a more fruitful relationship, a lasting bilateral relation from which both nations can benefit from. We invite the Tukarese government to take a look at the Valruzia 5700 economic plan, so we can already start working on trading deals to bring further our two nations.has said Minister of Industry and Trade Janusz Kostecki
