Government Falls Over Border Dispute
National Mwisintoto Front bring motions in both houses in attempt to trigger new elections

Chairman of the Council of Ministers Kanyo Bane has announced his resignation this morning after it became clear his government had lost the confidence of both houses of the National Assembly. Bane, leader of the Hosian Democratic Party, said that he would enter negotiations with other political parties to attempt to form a caretaker administration but it is thought unlikely that he will be successful. The loss of confidence was the result of junior coalition partners the National Mwisintoto Fronts' refusal to compromise on a key peace of legislation relating to the opening up of the Hanzen border.
Front leader Babatunde Akin was hopeful that a compromise could be reached over the weekend but after a crisis meeting in the capital, Niry Ifedimouni, it became clear that the Hosian Democrats were not willing to back down. Pledged in their 4486 election manifesto, the legislation in question would lift current restrictions which prevent non-citizens from crossing from Hanzen into Ntoto. Akin said that his party opposed any legislation which would, in his words, "enable the Asli population of the nation to be diluted".
With the government fallen, it remains to be seen whether the other parties in the National Assembly can negotiate to form a coalition. Members of the National Mwisintoto Front in both houses have drafted motions for immediate fresh elections but in order for these to pass, they will require a two-thirds majority. Both the Hosian Democrats and the second largest party in the State Assembly, the Centrist and Nationalist Alliance, have stated they will work to try and form a new government rather than have a third election in five years.
