Student of Cultural Heritage at the University of Milona, passionate about ancient art, Melissa has always dreamed of working in art field but apparently fate had other plans: noticed since Young, she undertook a model carrier, mainly between Milona and Romula, which allowed her to finance her studies too. She has walked the runway for emerging brands and posed for several advertising campaigns, but nothing that suggested a future as a royal.

• She loves analog photography and has a collection of old Polaroids.
• Her favorite dish is grandma Amalia's saffron flower risotto.
• It seems she was the one who taught the Prince to distinguish between a baroque and a rococo… with success!

Melissa, let's start with the question everyone asks: how does it feel to be the future Grand Princess of the Crown?
It is a complex feeling, difficult to explain in just one word. There is certainly a component of very strong emotion, because I am about to join a person I love deeply and who made me feel welcomed into a world that, at first, seemed too big for me. But there is also a deep awareness of the role I will be playing. It will not be just a question of etiquette or public appearances: representing the Imperial House also means being a moral, social, cultural reference. And this requires preparation, balance, respect for institutions. I cannot deny that all this is scary and is something of disarming solemnity, but I try every day to live up to it, without losing who I am.
When did you understand that the story with Prince Tommaso was something more than an adventure?
I think that, deep down, I understood it immediately but I didn't want to admit it. We met in rather spontaneous circumstances, almost like a romantic comedy, and I thought it would be a special but short interlude. Then four intense days passed, in which we laughed a lot, talked a lot and walked for hours, visiting places I only knew from books. When I returned to Milona, I had the feeling that something had changed inside me and when he wrote to me the next day telling me that he already missed me, I understood that it hadn't been a parenthesis but that... it was the beginning.
What struck you about him?
Sincerity! Tommaso doesn't play at being a prince, he is, but he never uses it to impose himself. He is attentive, direct, curious, and has a sharp but never cruel sense of humor. And then, he has this extraordinary ability to listen, not only out of courtesy but to really understand what you are trying to tell him. The first night we met, he asked me a question about a fresco in a little church here in Romula that I had mentioned on the fly, and the next day he took me to see it. He is the kind of man who remembers the things that matter.
And what does he think of you?
I think he loves the way I look at the world. He tells me that I show him things he had never noticed, that I force him to slow down and observe. He says that with me he feels more… real. And that I help him free himself, at least a little, from the weight he carries on his shoulders. I don’t know if it’s true, but if I can make him feel good, for me it’s enough.
Ten years of difference: for many it would be a distance, for you it seems like a strength. How do you experience it?
I’ve never really thought of it as a barrier. Of course, we come from different moments in life, but this has never stopped us from understanding each other, on the contrary, I think that the age difference has enriched us both. Tommaso has a maturity that I admire a lot: he has lived experiences that have given him balance and vision, and I learn something from him every day. At the same time, I think I bring lightness, enthusiasm, maybe even a pinch of spontaneity into his life that he himself recognizes as precious. I believe that… we balance each other and when we look at each other… age disappears.
How did you experience these two years of secret relationship?
It was an intense period, sometimes even complicated, really! We had to fit our worlds together, find spaces for each other without arousing suspicion, organize meetings with a thousand precautions. Fortunately, my work as a model and my frequent travels around the country helped us a lot. During these two years, however, despite the difficulties, we built something deep: no photos, no articles, no suffocating gossip, just us, our conversations, our mutual discoveries. In a certain sense it was beautiful to experience love in that bubble of absolute intimacy. Now everything is different, of course, but I wouldn't deny even a moment of those two years.
Are you ready for public life?
I don't know if you can ever be truly ready! No one prepares you to wake up one day and know that your every gesture, your every word, can be analyzed, interpreted, exploited. But I know who I am, and that gives me strength. I'm studying, I'm getting help from experts, and above all I'm learning to distinguish between appearance and substance. I want to bring my authenticity to this new role, even at the cost of not pleasing everyone. But at least I'll be real.
Your maturity is striking. Have they ever told you? Where do you think this awareness comes from?
(smiles, a little embarrassed) They tell me that every now and then, yes, but I don't know if I'm really that mature... I definitely feel like I've grown a lot since my relationship with Tommaso became public: having the attention of an entire country forces you to think about who you are and how you want to face the world. But I think there were other elements that shaped me, even before. My parents always pushed me to be independent, to make it on my own, to never depend on anyone, and this taught me to believe in myself. Then there's modeling: I started at 15, traveling often, even living long periods away from home. There I learned to adapt, to manage loneliness and responsibilities. And then there were the three years of civil service, an experience that changed me inside: serving the country, working with people from all over Istalia, listening to their stories, sharing daily difficulties... it puts you in perspective. You understand that life is much bigger than your dreams or your problems.
What do you miss about your “normal life”?
The little things. Going to the bookstore alone, the… crazy nights out with friends, spending sundays in your pajamas with no plans. But I realize that that “normality” has become a memory, not a loss. I try to maintain a balance: a walk without photographers, a phone call to my mother, an evening with my sisters. Those are the things that keep me anchored to my reality, to my past, and that help me not to get lost in the spotlight.
Now let's talk about… fashion! Who will dress Melissa Piacentini on her wedding day?
I can't reveal everything yet, but it will certainly be a creation by an Istalian fashion house with which I have established a beautiful relationship of trust during my years as a model. I was surprised by how much the Imperial House had to say in designing the dress, but I also tried to make sure that the dress told a story: my land, my family, my roots. There will be references to the sartorial tradition of Trivendito and small details that speak of me.
After the wedding, what will be your personal plans?
I would like to make my training available for projects related to the protection of cultural heritage. I would like to deal with artistic education in schools, or support minor museums, often forgotten but rich in beauty. Art and culture are the heart of the Istalian identity, and I believe that the Imperial Family can also do a lot to enhance them. I hope to be able to do so in the most concrete way possible.
